What a nightmare. We contracted with David Hand of Lake Tahoe Design Group to do a minor plan change for us, which he said would take about 10 hours total for him to complete. After the initial consultation, we agreed to retain him, and paid him a retainer. He was then completely unresponsive for weeks after, despite numerous emails and phone calls trying to reach him. Finally, he contacted us, and ultimately provided initial plans which did not include many of the design elements we had specifically requested both orally and in detailed emailed lists and even a drawing. After SIX months, we finally got the plans. Unfortunately, they were riddled with errors, including placing a staircase on the plans that wasn’t build-​able! Months later, we were contacted by the engineer that he used, who claimed we hadn’t paid him. Of course we had paid David, who apparently neglected to pass the payment on to the engineer. I have no doubt there are other architects that would provide much better service.
