Best take out in Somerville. Everything is excellent. Love the pizza, dinners, burgers, and all the sandwiches.

Best carryout around. Mostly American comfort food but they have great pizzas too. I order something every few weeks from them. Every item is huge and slightly different from your typical carryout offering. The Chicken Parm sub is heavy as brick! The Cali BLT is amazing. These guys don’t mess around! Food is always ready in under 20 minutes(I always do pickup) and they’ve never messed up my order. I honestly can’t think of another place that does this great of job on items all across their menu. Great spot. Check it out.

Worst service ever since new ownership. 5 minutes equals a rude 30 minutes. And not talking about how long it takes to make their pizza, but about their complete indifference to their customers. The worst. Never ever going back. Avoid.

City Slicker Café happened to be the next place on my list for when I work my weekends. For the last 6 years, myself and a co-worker have been systematically ordering from every pizzeria in Cambridge and Somerville when we are stuck to work on the weekend at our office. 6 months ago, it was the turn of City Slicker Café. I have to say that if I could give the place an extra half star, I would. My experience with City Slicker has been nothing but good. I cannot speak for the service as I have not been able to eat in the restaurant, but I have ordered from this restaurant on at least 7 – 10 occasions, and all of the times that I have, have been a pleasure for my taste buds. I honestly have City Slicker in a dead heat with the Flatbread Company as the best pizza in Somerville(at least IMO). The food is well prepared and delicious and the specialty pizza is truly amazing. I have tried so many of them and they are very good and done the way I like them. Even the crust is a winner. City Slicker’s subs and other meals have been a great venture into the tasty and they are definitely one of the go-to places on my Pizza List in Somerville. Ordering from them has been easy and simple. I pick up the phone, I order the pizza, I eat till I burst. I have not had the problems others have had with messed up orders or orders being subpar. Not from City Slicker. They have been on the mark with me for at least the last 6 months. I will try to eat-in sometime and see what happens. If I have a similar experience with any less-than-awesomeness, I will let it know, but otherwise, my review stands that this place stands as a great Somerville spot and a place that is worth the time. Try it for yourself. –S

I’ve ordered from City Slicker a few times now through Foodler. The food is tasty, but the delivery can be slow and they can be hard to get a hold of. My most recent experience; It took about an hour and a half ish to get my order to me, and when I called to check on the status the phone rang and rang and rang. Finally, my fourth time trying to call(didn’t know what else to do really) someone picked up. Frustrating, especially when you’re hungry.

Excellent pizza! If you are a fan of New England Greek style pies or Pub Pizza, this is absolutely incredible. The way Briggs Corner in Attleboro is(on a good day), only, made with more(maybe only?) cheddar. The garlic bread is delicious. Overpriced, but delicious! Most pizza places, take a dry, crusty sub roll, cut it down the middle, slather it in butter and/or oil, add garlic or garlic powder and slap it on the grill or put it through the pizza oven. I’m not certain how they make theirs, but I know it is far more flavorful than any pizza place garlic bread I’ve ever had. And the bread they use is good quality, probably locally made(if not house made). I’m not sure it’s worth the $ 4.50 they charge for it. But I’m sure it’s delicious.

Shame on me for making a last-minute change in my order and going with salmon… I should have figured salmon is not a smart choice from a sandwich/café restaurant, but I was feeling bold! Yeah, the salmon wasn’t great– it tasted like the frozen variety, but I did appreciate the glaze/sauce(something citrus-y) and that it was topped w/grape tomatoes & chunks of avocado. For my sides, I got broccolini which turned out to be just regular broccoli crowns & the worst mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. They’re both a) using the wrong variety of potato which doesn’t have enough starch to hold up and b) over-whipping so that the mash is gluey(and yet still chunky). yeah, it was bad. My dining companion got the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was okay not great. For his side, we got fries which were not only TERRIBLY soggy, but quite frankly the saltiest fries I’ve ever had. Somehow, the salt permeated through the entire fry. Blech. No thank you, City Slicker Café! No thank you. –_–

They get two stars because the food that they sent that was actually what we ordered was decent. They get a bad review for being grossly incompetent. We ordered on Grub Hub and they got my wife’s order right, but they totally screwed mine up. I ate the two bites that weren’t drowned in marinara sauce that I explicitly said to leave off and threw the rest away. We called to complain and the conversation was priceless: Nice lady who answered the phone: «City Slickers, pick up or delivery» Me: «uh, we already got delivery and my order was wrong» Her: «oh, you’re at 10 m**#% street, I know» Me: «no, that’s not us» Her: «oh then you’re at x address» Me: «uh, nope» I give our address Her: «oh crap, not another one, what’s wrong?» Me: «my sandwich was wrong» Her: «I can see the instructions here. They didn’t do that?» Me: «uh, no» Her: «I can’t believe they screwed something else up. Do you have the slip?» Me: «no, they didn’t give me one» because they didn’t, no credit card slip, nothing. Her: «I can’t believe it. Their supposed to give you one. Everything is screwed up tonight.» Me: «ok, can you fix it?» Her: «sorry, the cooks have gone home for the night so I can’t send you anymore food. I’ll call Foodler and get them to credit you for the sandwich» Ok, so the lady on the phone was very nice, but she seemed completely overwhelmed. I can’t adequately convey the comedy of her reactions. Obviously I wasn’t the only one calling to complain. Here are my problems with the conversation: She started with«pick up or delivery» then went on to tell me that the cooks had gone home later in the conversation. I can maybe give the benefit of the doubt that she just says that automatically, but it makes me suspicious. She also offered a refund on Foodler. Which would be fine, but it occurred to me after that we ordered from Grub Hub. They can’t even fix their screw ups right. We will see if we actually get refunded. I would have expected a full refund for the whole order, and I wouldn’t have bothered to take to Unilocal if we had, but they probably can’t afford to refund a whole nights worth of screw ups. Needless to say, I went hungry tonight because this place is such a mess. I’d think twice about ordering delivery from them.

I’ve gotten take out here about 6 or so times. The calzones are ok, I prefer a little more sauce. The meatloaf was good and smothered in gravy, it is meant to be shared, but I failed preschool and impulse control. When you order a calzone keep in mind the amount of grease/oil in the items being cooked. Really liked«The Italian» calzone. The bacon cheeseburger I thought was a bit to oil, but it was probably just due to the ingredients. Buffalo Chicken calzone wasn’t spicy enough for myself. All calzones come with 2 sides of marinara. Staff is always there when I need to pick up my order.

This place is about 100 yards from my place and have to say I am always surprised by the quality and inventiveness of the cuisine, although not cheap, this is no ordinary takeaway joint. The meatball pasta is excellent as is a chicken pasta item I forget the details of. They will even make you a steak and cheese sub off the menu if you ask, which is awesome… Knocking one star off for the service when you go to order, one of the guys that I always gets stuck with is as slow as a week in jail, and is always picking up the phone and leaving you waiting…

Why are you so great and now have formed me an addiction to what the boyfriend calls, folded pizza. Don’t get me wrong, as much as the calzone looks like a folded pizza, it is the most delicious folded pizza I have had. Recently had the bacon cheeseburger calzone and with a little siracha in it, it was on point. The Korean bbq wings were meh, but the buffalo wings were a lot better. Foresee many more trips here whether it’s a late night food run, or a lazy day pizza in bed.

I came home to find City Slicker Café’s delivery menu in my mailbox a couple weeks ago, and had no idea what a treat I was in for. As I perused the menu, I grew increasingly excited to try it. I’m a huge fan of side dishes, so I ordered the jalapeño slaw, creamy corn and poblano rice, and chili with melted cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious, like a party for your mouth. This was hands-down the best chili I’ve had in greater Boston. Over the weekend, I ordered the customizable bistro salad with steak(medium-rare), which was cooked perfectly/easy to cut. I added avocado and mozzarella to the salad, which were both tasty and fresh. The menu offerings are creative, they have lots of options/customizable options, and the service is fast and friendly. I am looking forward to my next order; maybe the pot roast? I only wish I had gotten their menu sooner…

Love this place, and order from them a minimum of once a month. Often as part of a large group. For… three years now? Four? So I know of which I speak. Generally delivery, occasionally pick up. The interior would be a nice enough place to sit down for lunch, but I wouldn’t relax into a leisurely dinner… PROS: Pizza. Lord that crust. I have daydreams about it. It’s not NY-thin, but it’s quite crispy; and rich and airy besides. Salads have real greens, nice flavor combos, nice customization options. Tater tots. Delicious sauces. CONS: Non-pizza items can be inconsistent. I’ve never had a bad meal here, but I’ve had stuff I wouldn’t order again(steak sandwich; and I don’t love their pasta). I also feel like they’re creeping up to the too-expensive level. Some of the *seriously* harsh reviews on here are just plain vindictive. One star when you’ve ordered from them for a year and like them but have one bad experience? One item not cooked to your liking? Come on. These guys do a great job. Use Unilocal as it means to be used, h8ers. I’m not giving them 5 stars because sometimes there are inconsistencies, but on balance, this is THEBEST pizza and real-food takeout in Somerville. A note: if you ever have issues with your order being mis-interpreted, just use their online ordering system. Easy, and it keeps them 100% accountable if anything goes wrong.

I’ve ordered from here several times over the past year. I order from here when I’m looking for well made comfort food. They kind of get it right, and they kind of suck at it. It’s like, they have the right idea, and then delegate a moron to cook it. I asked for RARE steak tips, but told them that they could cook them UPTO medium rare, if it would help them to stay warm between the restaurant and my home. How can I ask for RARE steak tips(but cooked enough to be warm still when they arrive at my home 1 mile away) … and end up with medium-well to well-done steak tips? Which, if I may add, are the THINNEST steak tips I’ve been served in Boston in the past 20 years? Seriously? Oh, and they weren’t even that warm when they arrived… probably because they were so thin!!! BUT, even that wasn’t the WORST thing. How can you screw up mashed potatoes and gravy? SERIOUSLY !! Peal some potatoes; mash them; add butter and gravy… DUH !!! They have found a way to destroy mashed potatoes… the same method that the Carthaginians used to destroy Tyre… they OVERSALTED it so much that NOTHING would grow or taste right, Would that I had as much flavor in the gravy as I had as much salt in the gravy. They’d be better off buying mashed potatoes from Star Market, and gravy in a bottle, from the same… and selling it place of their own… it would be MUCHMOREPOPULAR. To be fair, a steak«tip» doesn’t brag about it’s size… but after eating steak tips in Boston for 20 years — these are skimpy-assed bitches… but not only cooked wrong, but cooked DIFFERENTLEVELSOFWRONG — a spectrum from Med. Rare to WELLDONE !!! SERIOUSLY? You can’t even screw up consistently? And then after you cremate my «rare» steak tips… you affirm their destruction by salting them(and, indirectly, me) to death? NOTIMPRESSED… YOUMAYASWELLORDERFROMPAPAGINOS, DOMINOES. ORGETTAKEOUTFROMTHEMCDONALDSDOLLARMENU. SAVEYOURMONEYFROMTHISPLACE. Seriously, any idiots that can’t even get mashed potatoes and gravy right… why would you trust them with anything else? If they were on Hell’s Kitchen and I were chef Ramsey — they’d be the first to go. You f**ked up the meat entrée; You f**ked up the mashed potatoes; and you f**ked up hte gravy… Christ… what else is there to fuck up? And to add insult to injury, the«cupcake» that I paid $ 3 for turned out to be a mini cupcake. That’s like ordering a Bear Claw and getting a doughnut hole… sheesh… What more can I say?

Amazingly fast delivery given the state of endless snow currently here in Cambridge! The fried ravioli is really amazing, just mind blowing! Their calzones are fantastic, though«small» is what I would typically consider to be large, definitely filling and stuffed! I love that you get a choice in sauce too, white or tomato! I had white(Alfredo) which was awesome! And for desert(because I needed more calories apparently-was really hungry when I ordered!) wonderfully delicious churro! I only got one(thankfully because I am beyond stuffed) but it was so good! Lots of cinnamon warm and gooey goodness!!! Highly highly recommend with enthusiasm! To top it all off, the service was polite and the prices are decent!

Got delivery last night — the mini meatloaf with asparagus & mashed potatoes, and the baked meatballs with mozzarella & pine nut crumble & rigatoni, and broccoli. The meatloaf was weird tasting — kind of more like a giant hamburger smothered in tangy weird bbq-ish sauce(but not really). The potatoes were good, but there were literally four thin strings of asparagus that came with it. The baked meatballs had issues — the meatballs themselves were good(three medium sized), but the baked mozzarella(which we paid extra four) was three little lame dollops that disappeared in maybe 5 bites, leaving a shit ton of pasta & sauce by itself, and there was no pine nut crumble which we also paid extra four. Also asked for a small side of parmesan cheese, which did not come. Kind of sad that the highlight of the meal was the side of broccoli & the onion rolls. Wouldn’t order from here again.

City Slickers serves what I would call comfort food. I order pizza from them occasionally and it is pretty damn tasty. Usually I go with the«City Girl» pizza(insert some sort of clever joke here) which is portobello, Gorgonzola and caramelized onions. A bit on the greasy side but in the most wonderful way. The crust also has this crunch to it that is pretty fantastic. I live close to city slickers but never go there, its a takeout only place for me. It tends to err on the pricier side of things, but not ridiculously so. Pro Tip: Don’t order french fries for delivery… they just don’t hold up.

Was in the area and I had heard a lot of good things about this place. Cool décor and a great sized menu. I ordered the pot roast sandwich cuz IT’S A POTROASTSANDWICHRIGHT? Well unfortunately it was only pretty good. First off there wasn’t actually a lot of pot roast in the sandwich itself which was disappointing. The gravy in home made pot roast is suppose to be thin. This was thick and felt more commercialized if you understand what I mean? Kinda Dinty Moore consistency. The hashbrown like potato strings were well done and very crunchy. Maybe too crunchy. I liked the horseradish mayo and the french bread. Took about 15 minutes to make. Not sure why. I heard and saw the staff in the back being silly. Hey we all need to have some fun sometimes right? But just try and make sure it’s not at the expense of someone else’s time but maybe that’s just my opinion. I’ve been told the avocado sandwich is awesome so I’ll have to give this place another try when I have more time.
