Review based on my experience(This coming from a South Indian.) of a buffet lunch in Arasuvai on 2⁄9. Food was blah… Bhajji no salt. Lemon rice, Sambar, Rasam-Vada was below par, just tasteless. Masala kovakai?? what was that??? Have experienced better ones. Dessert — Watermelon and Cantaloupe were good. He he he he Will not recommend this place to anyone.

They had excellent menu for pongal special. Every item was delicious. Especially the eggplant + Lima beans puli kuzhambu was tasty!!! First time I have had fresh sugar cane juice in buffet menu.

We get the take outs often and go to the restaurant. The food is fresh and fantastic. Taste is consistently good. We did catering from them for our son’s birthday recently and boy we were not disappointed. Everyone at the party enjoyed the food and lot of them wanted to go check this place out. Parking is little difficult if you are new to the area, there is parking behind the restaurant. If you stick to south indian food you won’t be disappointed.

There’s no debate! This place has the best Indian food I’ve ever had! I no longer need to keep looking for the best! I’ve found it! Somerville has seen its share of Indian restaurants come and go! I hope these people stay! And with food so rich in flavor and addicting delicious… I don’t think they will be going anywhere; anytime soon! Roommates and I decided something spicy for lunch, first time ordering or eating here and 100% satisfaction ordered through Unilocal on the eat24 app order arrived exactly on time as estimated. The veggie samosas was soooo… Delicious! Kori gassi; which was pieces of chicken in a coconut milk sauce with some mild spices(AMAZINGGGGG) so rich in flavor and perfect amount of spices chicken was tender and melted in my mouth. Got the Dal Tadka which is like a lentil soup and got the roti for dipping it was also delicious. The goat masala was delicious goat was a little tough I would suggest they cook it a little longer because it can be tough to chew… Otherwise it was very flavorful and delicious. Perfect food for a nice cold rainy day!

So I love a good, authentic Indian meal — here is a place you can get a regional menu with items you can’t find easily in your vanilla American ‘burbs Indian joint! The interior is also very clean and comfortable, the folks here are really enthusiastic about other people exploring and loving their food… It’s a really fun experience. Most importantly, the food is awesome. I’ve been to many of the popular Indian places in Manhattan, also been to Newark Ave in Jersey City, and I think this is among the best. The lamb chops were very well marinated, well seasoned/tender/not gamey. All the breads are amazing, the dosa is crispy at the edges but soft and pliable in the middle — really delicious! All the curries were also fantastic… Really wish I could take back to Boston with me!

Great food. I am a big fan of Chettinad dishes and Arusuvai have it all. Excellent quality and they maintain it consistently, which makes to go there very often. My favorite is their lunch buffet. They always have a lots of variety in the buffet whether veg or non-veg foods. I would recommend to anyone who loves to eat hot and spicy South Indian food.

We had an early dinner with family here yesterday. The good is great. My south indian in-laws thought the food was very authentic. Some dishes here are unique and have never found at other south indian restaurants. I would give five stars for food, but three stars for service. Our server didn’t even smile at us. Service leaves mych to be desired, but would return for food.

So we have recently been introduced to the art and amazing tastes of Dosas– wonderful rice/lentil crepes sized to fill you up for a dinner portion and containing lovely spices to dip, accompany or enjoy on its own. We chose the Mysore(batter of dosa mixed with a spicy sauce which gives the already tangy savory crêpe a little kick) with masala dosa(hint: masala means a lovely portion of potatoes half mashed inside the dosa that makes it a meal). The food here is great, the atmosphere calming and rather minimalist and the large water thermos on the table adds a great touch to self-fill the cups(though never necessary because the servers are always there before you know it). We also enjoyed the samosa and chicken lollipops– imagine a chicken tikka/spicy chicken wing with only the good bits left — not sure how they do it. The vindaloo was also quite good-but our favorite part was the dosas, and that it is so close to home is really a treat.

It has become tradition for us to stop at Arusuvai everytime we pass by Somerville. Their lunch buffet has a great variety. Everytime there is a different special. One time they have idiappam with coconut milk as special, other time it was idli. They are not your standard indian buffet. At least 6 different vegetable dishes and variety of meat dishes, two different kinds of drinks as well(one is usually rose milk) all included in the buffet. It’s also cheap considering the amount of food that is offered. The service is also great. We were running late and showed up at 310 pm for buffet on a Saturday. They welcomed us and did not try to rush our lunch. They have a very nice hall in the back and also the bathroom is clean. Even my 5 year old loves this place. We will be coming back very soon!

Visited this place again. The restaurent was packed. The spread was top notch as before. Just loved them all. Replenishing the dishes was a little slow. That needs to be given some thought otherwise great! Keep it up! Highly recommend this place, you will never be disappointed.

I went because of the Unilocal reviews and wasn’t disappointed. I got the vegetarian thali and it was a meal fit for a king. The flavors and ingredients were fresh and complex, service super friendly. Lots of things I had never had before. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this place, I am less familiar with Southern Indian. However, The buffet was diverse enough to allow me to explore. Prices were about average for Indian.

I ordered chicken tikka masala and samosas to go. I was super surprised when I tasted the masala sauce because it did not taste like masala sauce at all. It was hot but had no flavor at all. The samosas were greasy and had no flavor as well. It’s always surprising to have Indian food that is bland.

SOUTHINDIANNON-VEGBUFFET . The country chicken soup was authentic chettinad style. The aroma of the rich spice flavors will definitely get your mouth watering and is a great start to the meal. For appetizers, I tried the chicken tangdi kebab — could have been marinated a little longer. Chilli idli was just about ok. Mint chicken curry or the mutton curry was the perfect condiment for the idli — which was quite soft. Do order for the rava dosas — they are quite small and takes a while to come in, so order up. I ended my buffet with Biryani and the raita. Dum massala was evenly distributed and the chicken was soft. I If you have a sweet tooth do try the mysore park — is soaked in ghee and can be overwhelming with the amount of sugar. The food is quite rich and heavy on your tummy Stick to the traditional south indian dishes(avoid naan and the north Indian paneer curries) and you ll love this place.

We came here on a late night craving for south indian food! We were the only people in here! We got the masala dosa. Idli and the chicken Biryani! Idli was too dry and not enough s flavors I was very disappointed with this dish! The dosa is huge! And once again not very flavorful! The sambhar and the chutney are pretty good but not the best! I think the best was chicken Biryani! It was mouth watering and as per the server this is their best dish! I would co here for the friendly staff they help you and talk to you but are not on top of you!
