Excellent chowder. Fish and chips and fried shrimp are perfect! Just wish they did fresh cut fries.

BESTCLAMCHOWDER but mostly everything else is bad. I came in expecting very little and left a little sick but the chowder was astonishing in comparison to the taste of everything else. The clam Cakes are disgusting, a two inch ball of bread with a piece of CLAM the size of the tip of a pinky. Just disheartening in general.

Worst seafood I’ve ever had. Out of stuffies so I got tiny over cooked scallops in a pie of breadcrumbs. The shrimp was over cooked. The clam cake and chowder tasted like dough and milky soup with absolutely no taste. Funny the onion rings and bottled water were delicious! When I told the old waitress that the meal had really no taste after she asked and noticed that I hadn’t eaten anything except the onion rings. She rolled her eyes and walked away and brought back a bill for the full amount of 30 $ Gross!!! Never again. Wish I hadn’t paid

To start off, I gave 1 star for 2 reasons: the wait staff is friendly and Unilocal doesn’t let you give zero stars. I don’t know how this place is still in business. I go to Chad’s maybe once or twice a year if the majority consensus in my group of friends wants to go or it’s someone’s «birthday pick» — it’s horrible. The only decent(and by decent I mean average) item is the clam cakes — but other than that… the chowder tastes out if a can(and sludgy) so I don’t order it anymore. The«seafood bisque» seems like nothing more than their chowder but with IMITATION(yes, you read that right) crab meat added. I ordered the fried calamari tonight — no matter how many hot pepper rings(and their juices) and malt vinegar and salt I added — — I just couldn’t make them taste like anything. Literally — nothing. I ate about 1⁄8 of my plate and just couldn’t force it. If you want GOOOOOD chowder, go down the street to The Venus — now that’s good chowdah.

Clam Cakes do have clams in them! But I think their oil may need changing, they were overly greasy — had that not been the case, the clam cakes would have been great. Stuffed Quahog — avoid — made with bread crumbs and very very salty! If you want clam cakes locally, it’s much better than captain seajays, at least you’re getting clams in your clam cakes.

I went there tonight, only the third time ever in 9 years. Now I remember why, it’s not cheap or good. How do you do one thing and can’t do that well? I got bread balls [clam cakes], burnt chicken tenders and [canned] chowder. I’ll have to remember tonight so I don’t go back.

Straight forward fried seafood. Probably better than I experienced as I bought take out! What might have been an outstanding lobster roll was ruined by 15 minutes in styrofoam surrounded by hot/subsequently luke warm fries. Same with the fried fish and scallops Which btw, were bay. Kinda disappointing so close to the ocean. Still, I think the food was solid, if a bit pricey. Nice folks to deal with. But do yourself a favor and eat in!

After a long, hot day of fishing this was an absolutely perfect place to eat. It was Friday night, the place was hopping. But, for a busy place it wasn’t chaotic — — - that’s always nice. The waitstaff was quick to acknowledge us when we walked in and promised to clear an available table right away. We were seated quickly. He ordered the Cape Cod Special — clams, onion rings, shrimp, clam cakes(Portuguese) and Chowder. I had the Stuffed Scallop — –and a cup of chowder with clam cakes(traditioinal). Both meals were good sized — my stuffed scallop was HUGE! Everything tasted wonderful. The service was exemplary. We will be back!!!

Wait staff was good. Had that old musty smell to restaurant. My husband had Portuguese clam cakes were very good. He also had whole belly clams HORRIBLE, OVERCOOKED, he was VERYDISSATISFIED and DISAPOINTED. I. had fish & chips, got onion rings instead of fries. Fish was good, a lot of breading. Needed tartar sauce-very dry. Rings were thick and VERYGREASY. VERY expensive and very BAD. I wanted to try because of «voter choice awards», I guess the voters have never had really good seafood. PLEASEDONOTNOT waist your time &. Cash. Just don’t bother, pick someplace else.

While the place seems like a tiny little hole in the wall, the food was delicious. Some of the best clam cakes I have ever had! Delicious fish sandwich, with more fish than I expected. Yum! Would definitely revisit!

This is a great local place for chowder, fish and«Portuguese» clam cakes, traditional southern New England clam cakes with a bit of chourice added to the batter. The chowder is creamy and thick with plenty of potatoes and clams. The prices are reasonable and the portions plenty. The dining room is small but the food and the friendly wait staff makes it worth the wait.

Had the fish and chips and some of the Portuguese clam cakes. Food was ok, clam cakes lacked in the amount of clams. Wife had the scrod. There was a large amount of bread crumbs… Way too much. Overall it was ok, thought it would’ve been better… seeing that they won an ample amount of awards.

Chad’s is my favorite chowder joint in the entire South Coast MA/RI area, and that’s saying quite a bit. The chowder is thick, creamy and down to the delicious basics– just lots of clams and a few potatoes. If you like a broth-ier chowder you’ll have to find somewhere else to eat, but if you like your chowder to taste like comfort food then Chad’s is the place to be. In addition, the clam cakes(especially the Portuguese style ones) are delicious and the deserts are fabulous as well(the grape nut pudding is as close to my Grandmother’s as I’ve ever found outside of her kitchen). I usually get take-out so I can’t really comment on the dining room, but the quality of the food is top-notch.

I found Chad’s while visiting from Atlanta based on local recommendations. The awards speak for themselves. Definitely the best clam chowder I’ve ever had! I could have eaten a gallon of it. The service was great, even after I realized I came in so close to their closing time. I love a hole in the wall local place like this. If I ever find myself back in the area I will return!
