Had tried pastries from Solvang Bakery prior to coming here — Solvang Bakery caught me offguard and I really enjoyed their pastries. Coming here, I expected to be wowed as well — wasn’t the case. The pastries didn’t have an depth in flavor, in fact — lacked good flavor. The #1 bakery in Solvang on Unilocal and it’s all hype. Wouldn’t recommend this — go to The Solvang Bakery instead.

Oh so touristy. I mean, given that the entire town of Solvang has become sort of a giant tourist trap, I guess that’s expected. Still, this was highly disappointing. The pastries were very, very bland and boring. Marzipan pastries with no marzipan. Chocolate cannoli-thing with no chocolate flavor. The one good thing was the buckets of plain butter cookies, which I guess is what they’re famous for. The problem is that the tubs you buy are half filled with just parchment paper, which is incredibly deceiving.

There are many bakeries in Solvang, and most are ok, but we visit Olsen’s every time we are in town. If you are a fan of butter in pastry as I am, you might find some things here lacking that punch. I am especially fond of buttery Danishes, and I just don’t detect that in these pastries. On the plus side, Olsen’s does use a bit more topping/filling than other bakeries in town, so you get a good helping of raspberry jam or almond paste or what have you. I’ve had a few things here, and for me, it’s always a grab bag. When I come to places like Olsen’s, I like to try traditional foods, because you can get a chocolate chip cookie anywhere. But you have to keep an open mind, because you don’t always get what you expect based on how something looks in the display case. A good example of this is the kransekage, which I tried this last visit. I was told it was like an almond cookie, but it’s really more like a confection, made with marzipan and quite sweet. It’s good, just not what I was expecting. I can also recommend the kringle here, a sweet pretzel shaped pastry, here filled with almond paste. I get one for my office pretty much every time I come to Solvang.

Great spot for a delicious pastry. They taste even better than they look, and for how good they are, they’re reasonably priced. Well worth the stop. I recommend the Danish pancake

Hubby is from a long line of Danish family so we stopped by this place which is a family favorite. I don’t like marzipan it most Danish treats but he does so he was happy!

The locals are right this is the best bakery in town! If you’re an almond lover you’re gonna love this place! Marzipan logs — soft almondy goodness with chocolate rum almond paste inside. Almond horns — chewy almond goodness slightly dipped in dark chocolate. Swiss roll — very light dessert but great flavor of toasted meringue, almonds, grated Swiss chocolate and whipped cream. And FYI they serve specialty coffee(espresso, cappuccino, etc…)

The marzipan with chocolate treats are excellent! Rum balls are very alcohol-y. We were on a hunt for marzipan and are so happy we stopped at this bakery because it was the exact marzipan taste we wanted. Service was fine but we felt like the guy wanted us to just be gone. Five for marzipan, three for service.

SWEEETS! This was our first stop after arriving in this Danish town of Solvang. I was automatically in heaven as I love sugar. I got a few items and they were all delicious! I can tell you that anything with cream inside is going to be a win! The cream is not too sweet and most of the pastries are super soft and flaky. Almond + chocolate cookie thing is super good as well. I was planning to save some for after the weekend when I got home. It barely lasted until the end of the weekend. Overall, great place to satisfy your sugar craving with delicious pastries. I’d be in trouble if I lived close to this place.

SOOMANYBAKERIESINSOLVANG!!! After strolling into a few, I opted to purchase items from this bakery. Everything we ordered was delicious and the staff was very pleasant. Whatever questions we had, the gentleman assisting us was informative and jovial. Made for a pleasant experience. At one point, my man while rolling his eyes at all the treats I was purchasing, noticed the back wall of bread. He asked questions, got answers, and through his curiosity of the pumpernickle bread, they gave him a whole slice to sample. That hooked him and we purchased a half loaf. Ordered: –half loaf pumpernickel with sunflower seeds –swedish delight(SOSCRUMPTIOUS!!!) –chocolate éclair(had custard filling and nice exterior crunch, was light and delicious) — danish waffle(yummy with cream and jam filling) –merengue: chocolate, strawberry and vanilla(tasty and light) –Kringle piece(tasty) –hot green tea –soy irish coffee latte(they made it yummy) All in all, great customer service and pleasant experience. Everything was delicious!

A huge selection of Danish goods/desserts/pastries/cookies. Tried a few different ones which I honestly don’t remember because it was share among friends and just bites of them. Most of the goods are on the overly sweet and rich side. One that I remember is a Danish pastry with some kind of red jelly and custard which was really good and not overly sweet(I think raspberry cheese danish?) If you like milk, their goods would be nicely complimented with a carton of cold milk. Which is also sold there. It’s awesome that they have such a huge selection and something for everyone.

I wish Mr. Olsen is my grandpa! My girlfriend and I went here cause the locals from Solvang suggested us to go here(gotta ask the locals. From traveling 101 handbook). This bakery is old school with an owner that is happy to suggest the food for us. We can tell he loves what he is doing and it shows from the pastries that they baked. The servers look happy to work here and it makes it a positive ambiance to go to. They serve coffee and tea, too which are great pairing for their pastries. Everything is so good! But of course we can’t order everything so we ordered what Mr. Olsen suggested. We ordered their famous Bear Claw which my girlfriend always ordered in Solvang. It doesn’t disappoint. So crunchy, flaky and the texture and flavor is just on point. It is made with love! We ordered their German Chocolate Cake; it is so chocolatey every time you bite it. Their chocolate merengue, kidd you not. The best merengue I ever had! It just melts in your mouth. And for last, we ordered their mocha coffee; it really compliments their awesome pastries. Overall, this place rocks!

I literally tried every bakery in Solvang(about 5 of them) and Olsen definitely has the best danish butter cookies!!! Seriously! Someone in the restaurant told me there’s this one guy who would drive up to Solvang once an year and buy 12 buckets home and store them for the whole year. Not sure about their pastry XP

When we got to Solvang, we were hungry and wanted to get something to eat quickly. We had determined in advance that Paula’s Pancake House was where we wanted to be so we headed over and I noticed that there was this cute PACKED bakery next door. In my quest to sign in with the hostess, I accidentally wandered in here and was checking out all the awesome selections of Danish pastries, cookies, meringues, bread, and so much more as you walk past all the glass display cases along the front of the restaurant. Besides being a bakery, it’s actually also a café where there are actually tables and chairs for customers to sit and order breakfast at. Since Paula’s is usually packed with long waiting times, I can imagine some of the waiting guests getting impatient and just end up having breakfast here instead. We got into line and as were standing around debating what to get to what looked interesting to try; soon it was our turn to order. We were definitely very troubled as we still kept staring at all the different choices and finally settled on the Princess Mocha Waffles($ 3.50 each or $ 6 for 2), Marzipan Log and a bag of Gingersnap Cookies. Our favorite definitely was the Princess Mocha Waffles as they remind us of a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie except the cookie layer is flattened out and covered with a sweet toffee glaze that looks like it provides a good crunch when bitten into, but instead is surprisingly soft and each to break apart. The cream filling is just right and not too sweet like normal cream filling; watch out when you bite into it for the filling that pushes out of the cookie center. The best part of this is that its perfect option for those that like chocolate and those that don’t as it’s half dipped in chocolate, while the other side isn’t. The Marzipan log is just chocolate and pretty good. The gingersnap cookie has good flavor and tasteful fresh almonds on top. A definitely must try if you’re waiting next door for Paula’s to just swing by to just grab something to hold you over while you wait.

I do like this place. It’s right next to Paula’s Pancakes, easy to find, almost always open and always delicious. Every time we drive through Solvang(yes, it’s entirely a little tourist town but my dad lives there so we have to drive through…), we try and stop there for some pastries.

What a delightful bakery! Much like the town of Solvang, Olsen’s is a throw back to Europe with French doors that lead into the main street and delicious fresh baked kringles, danishes, and other fine pastries. Olsen’s is also on the less expensive sides of the bakery spectrum here in Solvang, their wares fetch for more bang for your buck. The staff here is very nice and extremely accommodating and knowledgeable of everything in their display cases. Each of the ladies behind the counter are also very good baristas, I know that Café a latte is a espresso and steamed milk, but it’s very tasty here, maybe its the combination of their delicacies and the coffee that make it a desirable dish. Next time I’m in Solvang, I’ll be stopping by Olsen’s to snag one of those world famous Kringles! Enjoy!

We bypassed Paula’s for Olsen’s Danish Village & had a flaky good time Lines were crazy-out-the-door but they moved quickly. We chose an assortment of pastries & lattes & grabbed a tub of butter cookies for later Coffee had an okay milk to coffee ratio but we’ve probably had better. I noticed everyone all around enjoying their house drip so maybe that’s the way to go for next time! In fact, I think the bitterness of a drip would pair perfectly w/these sugary, cinnamony delights! Danish pastries — we got a piece of the kringle; cheese danish; cinnamon wheel. Each was flaky & tasty. Can’t way we were completely wowed but we were certainly fans & would look forward to coming back Tub of butter cookies — tender & buttery & these had lots of almonds. At first I thought they weren’t my favorties but after a couple of days, I was popping them like chips… so yeah, they’re *that* good! Only regret is not buying two tubs

Best Danish and pastries in downtown Solvang. Cute little«restaurant» with about 10 tables. Order your food and drink first, then find a table to enjoy your food. Get the apple fritter and the chocolate topped custard donuts. Americanos drinks and hot chocolates always a good combo!

Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery, located on the main street of Solvang, was one of the last places I went to before we left Solvang. They had a few samples here(hehe YAY) that I could try and they were tasty! Mint truffle strawberries– you could taste the strawberries and the chocolate that was all over them, but the mint was a little surprising for me. It didn’t have too much but you could still taste it! They have their own butter cookies as well, but we didn’t get it from here. So if you like their butter cookies, LEMMEKNOW! They have a lemon tart pastry(shoot I should know the name) — the pastry is very puffy and flaky. The lemon is in the middle and you can taste the lemon tartness that is in the pastry! There are so many other desserts but since we still had multiple stops on the trip, we didn’t get too many of them(plus the bill would rack up pretty high). You need to figure out where you are in line though, because it’s very disorderly sometimes. They have a couple of people asking who’s next in line, but they have 3 different areas that you can be in, so you have to be alert and see which person is free so they can assist you. If you like Danish pastries, try every bakery in Solvang. :P

I regret not having taken you more seriously, Olsen’s. We ordered a couple of pastries to eat while on-the-go around town but it was so hot out, I couldn’t enjoy and appreciate the danish I was eating. We shared one apricot danish and one chocolate éclair while there. The danish was so good. The apricot center was nice and tart and the freshness and light sweetness of the outer pastry is just right. This ain’t the stuff packaged danishes are made of! We didn’t like the chocolate éclair very much. It was harder than is pleasant and a little dense. Before we left town, we picked up a big box of danishes — apricot, apple, raspberry, bear claws, strudels, etc. Once I got home and ate some — OMG — they are the best danishes I’ve ever had. Now, I haven’t had many danishes in my lifetime but what I do know is I wake up in the morning wanting to eat one and have to control myself all day to not go grab the others to finish off! My favorites are the apricot and raspberry because of the tart center. The bear claw was pretty darn amazing. Love that almond taste! I don’t recall the prices except that 2 fruit-centered danishes costs $ 5.50. They also sell cookies and cinnamon goodies, etc. I heard the cookies last outside for about 5 days but if you refrigerate or freeze them, they can be kept for a long while. Again, I regret not having taken you seriously, Olsen’s. I would have bought a WHOLE lot more if I knew how much I would love you. One more pastry left for tomorrow morning… me sad.

Marzipan! Desserts.life’s love. While many like chocolate, I’m a sucker for Marzipan. There are not too many bakeries that use it and fewer that use it right. Typically, Scandinavians make the best treats with it and this bakery is proof of that. What is Marzipan? Marzipan is an almond paste, sometimes almond oil is used, mixed with sugar and honey. It is amazingly delicious. Surprisingly, not many Americans are familiar with it. It is my favorite. You think Chocolate is good? Try chocolate covered marzipan treats and you will be blown away. Here, I simply asked which products were baked with marzipan and about six items were identified. I picked chocolate/marzipan and a fruit type tart with marzipan. Both were so delicious. I also got a loaf of cinnamon bread. It was fresh and oh so good! I’m loving the marzipan treats and the bread and am a fan!
