Mmmmm! Mmmmm! Mmmmmm! Can not say enough about the food here! We left absolutely stuffed! More food than we could eat! Everything was hot and fabulous. We ordered the sampler type appetizer and seafood platter so that we could try a variety! EVERYTHING was delicious!!! Highly recommend the Crab au gratin and alligator sausage!!! Staff was super friendly and overly attentive! Friday night crowd and the wait was only about 10 minutes!!!

I spent every summer at our camp on Rat’s Nest Road from 1969 – 93 and some of my fondest memories are of eating at Vera’s. Since its closing after Katrina, I have always wanted to try the«new» Vera’s on Gause(hesitant because it’s in a strip mall). I was disappointed from the moment I walked in. There was nothing from Vera’s on Rat’s Nest Road except some $ 1 bills behind glass. I know that the original Vera’s was destroyed by Katrina and the dollar bills were salvaged. But, why not have a photographic tribute on the walls? Maybe a history of Rat’s Nest Road before Katrina? And the food was not good, except the onion rings. And it is VERY expensive. My husband’s $ 8 hamburger was from a frozen pre-made patty. My grilled snapper was undercooked, slimy, and with no flavor. The fried seafood is your best bet. There were no hand towels in the bathroom. The service was slow, disorganized, but polite.

From the Fresh Salad, Stuffed Mushroom Appetizer to the main course. Blackened Butterflied Shrimp(you can order it Fried, Grilled or Blackened) everything was delicious! The Shrimp were larger than expected. Our Server, Paige was Excellent! We will be Back!

Let me be clear: This is NOT the Vera’s that was on the end of rat’s nest road that had good food, awesome views and that old-timey 70 – 80’s diner feel. Nope. It may share the same name, but this is not it. I gave this restaurant 2 stars because it is not the 4 – 5 star restaurant that Vera’s was. That’s all I have to say about that.

I’ve been here a few times and it’s always been delicious. Real Louisiana seafood here!

The food was ok. We ate here just passing through. I had a shrimp poboy and my husband had frog legs. The food could use a little more flavor. The service was a little slow. The meal was a bit pricey for what we got in my opinion.

Best fried crab claws ever ! Crab bisque is superb and I am so disappointed if I go in on a day that they don’t have it. The service is mostly very good, depends on who you get. BUT the food is always LA fresh. I took my family from Texas there at Christmas and they want to make it a new family tradition every year. I agree :)

We came here for dinner last night(a Friday) around 7:30. Had about a 15 min wait to be seated. Staff was friendly, checked on us frequently without being over bearing. Food was tasty, nice big portions. We paid $ 50 for the shrimp platter, the catfish platter, the crab au gratin appetizer, and 2 sodas. Neither of us could finish the plates — plenty of food for the price, all of it fried well. Overall, a great experience.

Good food, great service but it was very expensive. My wife enjoyed your seafood platter and I enjoyed my burger but again it is expensive.

I ate here many times when I was growing up because we had a camp just down the road from Vera’s when it was on Rat’s Nest Rd. I remember it was the best soft shell crab ever. I ate at the current location for the first time today. Of course I miss that it is not right on the water anymore and I’m not sure of the soft shell was as good as I remember, but I did enjoy it. I do recommend the Bananas Foster for dessert

Just off I-12 and worth the stop. We ate dinner after hotel desk clerk recommended it, but they have a great lunch menu too. Ordered Half n Half. Half grilled shrimp and half broiled scallops with steamed mix vegetables. Oh Soooooooooooo good! Cooked perfectly and our server Amber was perfect! We will eat here again

I can only speak about crawfish. I went to Vera’s because I was craving some Louisiana crawfish. I was highly disappointed. The crawfish was not hot and they were not Louisiana flavorful. Needless to say I doubt I will return, flavor means a lot to me especially when I am eating seafood from a seafood restaurant.

There are great seafood restaurants in Slidell. This isn’t one of them. I think that the fried seafood here tastes like grease and old grease at that. Like it’s been used over and over for days and days. The crabmeat au gratin app is good, but that’s not worth a trip here, in my opinion. You could easily make that at home. It’s overpriced and just not worth it. The service is good and the atmosphere is nice, but honestly, I’d skip it if I were you.

If you are going to a movie in Slidell and want to have dinner, this is a good place to do it! My friends and I had dinner here before Christmas when we went to see The Hobbit. I concur with a previous reviewer’s comment about the décor being fun. It really was, especially dressed up for Christmas. I am remiss in being so tardy in reviewing this. I do remember I had fried oysters and that they were good and that the place was cute and clean. I do reccomend it if you are looking for seafood in SlidelL!

When my family is in the mood for a quick poboy or gumbo, Vera’s is our spot. What I love most about Vera’s is the décor. For a place that is located in a strip mall, from the inside you feel like you’re spending an evening in the swamps. The staff has always been super nice and accommodating. One day we were having some boiled crawfish with out of town guests when the lights went out due to a tropical storm. The staff put flashlights out and kept the crawfish and beer coming. Only in Louisiana, right? :) Their gumbo is consistently tasty, not mind-blowing, which is understandable in a restaurant setting. I usually add some hot sauce to give it a kick. I personally love the corn crab bisque, which they have as a special sometimes. We’ve always had a good experience eating here. It’s not the best in Louisiana cuisine, but it’s certainly enjoyable and fresh for a casual meal– much better than most.

Food was as expected. The prices are definitely on the higher side. Shrimp po-boy at $ 10 with no sides.

I went to Vera’s on June 27th about 6pm to get some good LA seafood. What a major disappointment. The prices were outrageous($ 12 for a poorboy) with meals very expensive. The tables next to me had food under the table at a time when not many people were in the restaurant. The table and booth bench was dirty. After seeing the prices and condition of the restaurant I decided to have a bowl of gumbo. The gumbo was utterly tasteless. The service was average. I told the server that the gumbo was tasteless and she seemed to not care. I’m never going back to this place. I’ve found a much better option with reasonable prices at Kenny’s Seafood.
