They changed the name to Sweet Burgers and Hot Diggity Dog. Food was terrible, same as before. Hot dog buns were stale. The dogs were obviously cooked… A few hours ago because they certainly aren’t hot when we got them. They were barely lukewarm. The tacos… The meat was bland and there was no point asking what toppings were wanted because they didn’t put them on anyway. They even got our tortilla selection wrong, and they were cold just like the dogs. The blonde haired woman who took the order seemed more interested in texting than working. The young lady who prepared the order, and I can only assume is someone’s daughter judging by her age, came from the lobby and started prepping without washing her hands. Terrible food. Terrible service. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Substandard subs in sierra vista really lives down to its name. Me and my family all different subs. We will never eat there again bread was dry hard and crusty meatS tasted old and veggies were old and limp wilted.

We tried this curiously named sub shop today while we were in Sierra Vista. I definitely understand why people are not really liking SubStandard very much, but I thought it was ok. Definitely not great, but edible. First off, the restaurant, including the bathrooms, seemed pretty clean. I wasn’t grossed out at all, and I’m a germaphobe. The only issue I saw was maybe a food storage issue, which I can’t confirm. But it looked like the roast beef and turkey were stored together in a very large bin just sitting on the counter. Lunch meats should be refrigerated. I have no idea if they had just taken them out right before I walked in, but they were out the entire 35 minutes I was eating my meal in the restaurant. The food itself tasted good. It wasn’t outstanding, but it was competent. The sandwiches are definitely skimp, though. And I don’t understand why the bread was so dry and crumbly. It didn’t really seem stale, but it was so toasted that I kinda felt like it must have been stale and they were trying to disguise it. Again, I’m not sure what was going on. The employees were friendly. The prices were ok, maybe a little high considering the serious lack of meat on the sandwiches. Overall though, I would eat here again, but I will do so cautiously since I’m not sure if some of the procedures going on are up to par.

Definitely below standard. I ordered the veggie sub and it was drenched in Italian dressing. The bread was a weird texture too.

Nasty. I was excited to see a place that had gyros in town, and I figured I would try them out. I wish I didn’t. First of all, when I walked in, I saw the«meat» on the spit, but it was not on and looked like it had been sitting that way for a long time. Needless to say the meat was not freshly shaved off the spit, it must have been pre cut in the fridge and just microwaved. It was still cold. The tzatziki sauce tasted old as well, with very little flavor. It was easily the worst gyro I have ever had, I had to throw ¾ of it away, it was that bad. It is a shame because this town is full of nothing but chain restaurants and it could really use a good sandwich shop. I thought maybe this was the one but after tasting that gyro there’s no way I would ever go back there for anything. Anyone who thinks that gyro was one of the good ones has either never had one before in their life or is on drugs.

So 32 minutes after I placed my order, and after seeing three people who ordered after me receive their food, eat half of it, and throw the rest of it out; I decided to ask for a refund since I still hadn’t been served. I was really in no hurry, but 32 minutes for a sandwich is a little excessive. That is my comment, now onto how you can improve your establishment. First, don’t have one person working on a Saturday during the lunch rush. If you can’t hire someone(do to financial reasons), ask a friend /family to help you out. Second, please do not handle money and food without washing your hands in-between. Gloves protect me from you, not you from my food. Thirdly, please do not store food within close proximity to trash-cans. Do not leave kitchen doors open to the outside or to public accessible hallways. Please do not leave lunch meat on top of trash receptacles. Please cover food left out for an extended people of time(extended is considered 30 minutes) and not on top of a meat slicer. Please consider wearing a hair net if your hair is 1.5 inches long when working with food and if you have facial hair more than .75 inches long. I hope this helps, I’ve been owning and operating restaurants for 20 years now. I feel that I have been pretty successful. I like to see people succeed, best of luck.

The service was SUBstandard!!! The meatball sub was pretty good but probably would have been a little better if I wasn’t so mad at the terrible service!

With all the options we thought it was worth a try, bread was stale, mostly mushy vegetables and dry meat. Still laughing about their worthy restaurant name because it truly is substandard.

They should really consider changing their name otherwise they give people ammunition for many years to come. I came here to quickly grab lunch one day. Big mistake, it took so long to make my Italian sub and onion rings. The onion rings were good, but then again it’s not hard to mess up onion rings. My sandwich was plain, boring, and the bread was so hard I could barely bite into it. It also came on like. A half piece of a top roll? Whatever it was my sandwich split in two immediately. Boring subs, not impressed.

Truly substandard! The gyro was 40% lettuce and the meat was old, dry, salty, and cold. DONOT order the fruit smoothie boba– it has to be made from powder. Def no fresh fruit in this drink. Also, our order was not fulfilled correctly. I ordered a Greek salad with my Gyro and received French fries instead! Totally unhappy with my experience at this restaurant. I go out to eat to enjoy myself an not deal with the hassle.

Got the steak and mushroom sub. The flavor was really good, just did not get enough meat/mushrooms for the cost. Needs a little more filling for the price. Wish I could find a place in SV that had«chunk» steak subs! Guess I need to try the Gyro if I want filling.

This place was ok, but a little overpriced for what you get. I had a gyro, and it was probably about 40% tsaziki sauce. It seriously felt like my gyro came in my mouth with every bite, and that was after squeezing about 4 or 5 tablespoons worth out onto my plate. I guess if you’re into that, you’d like this place. Otherwise, ask for the tsaziki on the side! The lamb was alright, it had a ton of shredded lettuce, and a few thick slices of tomato. There was onion, but with all the tsaziki jiz, I couldn’t even taste it. I ended up eating less than half my gyro just because I got tired of it splooging into my mouth and all over my plate. If I ever go back, I’ll be getting the sauce on the side and asking for like half as much meat and lettuce.

This is the ONLY place in Vista to get a quality Gyro, and I know from experience. I have tried them all, and I’m from Detroit, Mi, where a Gyro is breakfast food, lunch food, dinner food, football food, baseball food… the works. Excellent food, but their Gyro is the best in the entire state.

Just updating my review as I have visited this establishment several times. The food is still great and fries are always fresh. My only beef here is the customer experience, prices and ketchup :). Yea I said ketchup! It is very runny, I almost though it was watered down until I opened a bottle myself and found out that Hunt’s is always that way. It seems like they are asking a little too much for their product. They still consistently LOAD their gyros with lots of meat and make pretty good subs! Parking is still and will always been horrible but that isn’t the establishment’s fault.

I got a full steak & onion sub plus fries. It was lunch and the place was mostly full, so I thought maybe they had improved since my first visit, which was right after they had opened. The meat was overcooked and chopped up so much, it had the texture of ground beef and it had no flavor. The bun was moist and gooey, probably because they stuck the meat in the bun without draining it. The tiny bit of onions that were on there were overcooked. There was a cheese-like substance on the bottom of the bun, but not enough to taste it. Finally… The fries were overcooked, lacked flavor and saltless. Oh yeah, and that crappy sandwich/fries combo cost almost $ 10.

Do not go here if you care about your health or wallet. The food is essentially«substandard». There food is overpriced, overly salty, and has a horrible oily taste. I just ate there and feel like I got food poisoning. The soda drinks were filled in paper cups full of crushed ice so you barely got any soda and ate ice instead. The condiments were dollar store brand items and had next to no flavor. The server was also rude and I could barely understand her English. The décor was absolutely plain and the photos on the wall make no sense and were disturbing(random touristy scenes) to the point I got a headache! so avoid if you can and if your friends like you they wont take you here! One of the recent additions to the shopping center around our new Super Walmart, Sub Standards is a decent, albeit overpriced option for sandwiches. I have eaten here three times now. I’ve ordered a cold turkey sandwich, a hot steak and cheese, and a gyro. The only thing that comes close to a value for the cost is the gyro. The amount of meat in the hot and cold sandwiches is absolutely paltry compared to the cost. If you get a full size sandwich(which is about a ten inch deli roll) in a combo with chips and a drink, you’re still looking at about $ 8. If you upgrade to fries or onion rings(which I actually recommend, they are pretty darn good) you’re looking at $ 10 for a single person. That is a LOT to ask for a single lunch, in my opinion. So overall, Sub Standards is a decent enough sandwich shop. But if you’re looking for value, you really can’t beat Subway’s $ 5 footlong promotions. If you’re going to go, I totally recommend the gyro combo with fries. They absolutely stuff the gyro with meat(which makes it that much more odd that their other sandwiches are skimpy) and their fries are actually really good.
