ZEROSTARS! Based on the other reviews I had high hopes for Wine Country, but BOY was I disappointed! When given the choice of seating in the bar area or the dining room I asked for the dining room and mentioned it was to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The young lady who I spoke with said that because it’s her birthday she will get complimentary champagne and a dessert, or maybe it was«or» a dessert, I’m not sure. When we were seated I mentioned to our water that it was my wife’s birthday, thinking that would be a good time for her to have that glass of champagne, and our server acted like I had not said anything special and brought our menus. I thought maybe I had misunderstood and figured it would be a great experience anyway. Nope! The first thing I noticed was that I couldn’t hear my wife and she couldn’t hear me. We were in the dining room but the noise from the bar area was overwhelming and completely blanked out our attempts at conversation. So I looked around and noticed a couple of things that could’ve been better, like the view I had of the underside of the bar with its cardboard boxes and spray cleaner bottles, the bugs in the overhead chandelier globe that hadn’t been cleaned in a while, the 100% lack of lumbar support on the chairs in the dining room, and the butcher paper that had been spread on top of the white linen tablecloth — which made for a less formal atmosphere, more like a BBQ joint. I ordered us each a glass of wine and they were both good but extremely overpriced. My wife ordered«The Frenchman» salad and it wore almost no vinaigrette dressing, but at least the greens were fresh. I had a cup of the roasted red tomato soup and it was good but not great. I had enjoyed roasted tomato and smoked gouda soup at another Shreveport restaurant and Wine Country’s didn’t come even close to the other place’s recipe. We shared a «1st course» item, the fried pickled green tomatoes with shrimp chunks on top and it was good but the pickled tomatoes were way too firm. Fresh fried green tomatoes are much better. Note that if you order something from the soup/salad group, something from the«1st course» group and something from the list of entrees you will spend about $ 160 per couple without any wine. Add wine and it’s at least $ 180 for the two of you. Ridiculous prices for such a medium-scale place, but I was ready to buy my wife a nice dinner regardless of the cost, even though we couldn’t converse much in the noisy place. Our entrees got served next and I had the Trout Almandine, fried. My wife ordered the Seared Kobe Flat Iron beef«medium rare» and it came raw. There was a 1⁄8 inch ring of brown around the outside but the inside was deep red raw, not even warm. She tried it anyway and couldn’t chew it. The meat was poor quality and full of gristle and she had to eventually spit it out after a long time chewing. She tried another piece and it was the same. We returned her entrée and asked the waiter to just bring another trout entrée for her, and I gave her mine to eat so she wouldn’t have to wait on her birthday. The next trout almandine they brought was served to me and it had twice as thick a batter as the first plate, and was extremely oily. So the chef is inconsistent; that is never good. After eating half the plate I ended up scraping off the batter and realized then that the fish meat was less than one quarter of the total thickness. It was almost all batter, and very oily! Later that night I had indigestion and nausea from eating so much grease. The crowning moment was when the water acknowledged that it was my wife’s birthday and he was going to give her a free dessert. She said she had no room, but he offered to package it up «to go». So she picked a lemon meringue pie and it showed up stuffed into a small round Styrofoam cup. I have never seen such a thing! You can only see the meringue, not the pie, but the meringue is burned dark brown to black and was very unappetizing. It went in the trash. Very poor experience and we definitely won’t be back.

Very good restaurant. I like the food. It’s very good for the price you pay. The ambience is great. The bar selection is great. This is my favorite«fancy» restaurant in the Shreveport/Bossier region.

Chef Anthony is in my opinion is the best chef in area. Presentation was top shelf. Food was excellent and wait staff was on point. If your within 500 miles of this place you need to stop.

I came here the other day for my work christmas party. They had sectioned of the retail section for us to have our private party. We had shrimp tacos, chicken and waffles, friend green tomatoes, and different meats and cheeses. All the food we tasted was good, but the shrimp tacos were the best. My boss had told me that the shrimp tacos were tiny, and they were tinier than I pictured(but still delcious)! We also had different desserts. I am not sure the proper name but they were like little cake bites. We also had some other chocolate pie looking dessert that was delicious. I had a sangria and it was good. More fruity than most sangrias I have drank. It was served with a really tropical presentation, which reminded me of being on a cruise. Overall, the food was great, the service was great, and the atmosphere as well!

I came in for the Mussels again but they didn’t have any. They ran out and they come in fresh on Monday’s. So I got the pear and berry salad with the pan seared red snapper. It was good. It came with asparagus and on top of mashed potatoes. It wasn’t the best snapper I have ever had but it was good. My server was very pleasant and checked on me frequently.

Wanted to give a 4 stars because the staff/service is nice but the food is a 3.5-stars for me. And this is only based on the Sunday brunch. I didn’t have lunch/dinner here. It’s one of those places that people seemed to come celebrate their special occasions because there’re no other places in town to go to.(ok maybe there’re 2 more places in town besides here, but still, not that many options to choose from) It has a wine and cheese shop, so people think they’re at a fancier place because they have foreign wines. The wine shop is quite impressive I’d have to say, it has a nice big selection. The cheese are pretty old looking, and I don’t mean finely«aged». It does sell a bunch of other typical wine shop items: cork stopper, opener, decanter, crackers, napkins.etc. Sunday brunch has a nice variety menu. From pancakes/waffles to eggs to duck hash. I really wasn’t planning on coming to this place because I knew it would be mediocre, but I was sick of diners and fried food choices in town. I had the Fried Green tomatoes Benedict(I know, another fried dish, but I wanted to have something different that I wouldn’t be able to have at home). The eggs were poached perfectly and laid on top of Virginia ham and fried green tomatoes. It’s not bad. Ham is a bit salty. I do appreciate they didn’t over pour the hollandaise sauce. The potatoes on the side are pretty bad. not sure what’s going on there… were they trying to stay healthy so not fried? but they seemed fried, just not crispy and soggy. It’s also very dark… definitely not impressed with the potatoes. The plating could use some help before delivering to the customer. It seems very greasy on the part that’s not even touching the food, unless the food was sliding around on the plate. And the over dripping sauce on the rim could be wiped down. After all, you’re trying to be kind of fancy here, so do the fancy steps that fancy restaurants would do. Wipe the plate down before sending it out. Coffee was pretty horrible and it’s $ 2.50 a cup. Also tried their«sweet cream» pancakes. It’s a denser cake than your typical fluffy pancakes, but tasted decent. For $ 3.5 as a side order, it comes with 2 normal size pieces. Not bad for value. They tasted pretty good, but wish they could a bit more crispy on the edges. For $ 24(tips included) out of the door, I’d have expected something a bit better than what I had experienced. It did leave me wonder if I should have gone to my usual diner and have a great breakfast meal for $ 10. The décor, the friendly staff and simply something that Shreveport lacks of, I guess it’s not too bad.

We came here several years ago but this restaurant is still the best french restaurant I’ve ever been to. The service was good and the food was amazing! They were very accommodating. The chef was awesome. He did a huge favor for me so in my book he is amazing! I can’t wait to go back again.

Found this restaurant tonight and it had high ratings so I was extremely excited to dine here. Excitement turned into disappointment quickly. There was only one wait person for the entire restaurant, I ordered the shrimp and grits and the grits were as hard as little pellets and the replacement that I ordered which was their pasta of the night Fettuccine Alfredo was flavorless. In good conscience I could not recommend this restaurant at least not on a Sunday night.

Best food and service I’ve had in a VERY long time! I had the duck confit salad to start out with. It was EXCELLENT! The duck was cooked perfectly and blended perfectly with the blackberries and arugula! For the main dish i had the hanger steak, which was also cooked perfectly. It came with hericort verts, roasted fingerling potatoes, and a delicious tomato reduction sauce. For dessert we had the blueberry cobbler. We also shared a bottle of Paydirt red wine. Very very good wine. Everything was to live for! If you’re in the area you have got to eat here!

One of my top spots in Shreveport. I can always count on a delicious cocktail crafted with care by Alvin or Joanna to compliment a superb dinner made by the hard-working boys in the kitchen. The duck is some of the best that I’ve ever had and beats out most places in other cities, hands-down. The crème brulee is a soft and decadent treat to finish off the meal. Bottle shop is great to pick up a bottle of wine to continue the evening. Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or make an ordinary night extra-special. Friendly and professional staff go above and beyond to make your dining experience the best that it can be.

Wine Country does a wonderful job. Their service is friendly and perfect. The wine list is tremendous of course. I found their cocktail menu terrific! I had a strawberry bourbon drink that was positively unique and fantastic. Food was delicious. I am very excited to dine al fresco here in a couple of months :)

In the past four years I have had quite a few delicious meals and drinks at Wine Country, I considered it one of the few place in town I could count on as a good fine dinning experience. Seems like something changed in the last few months. I used to love their mussels, but recently I had some that made me sick, and I fear ordering them again. Last weekend I went for lunch and got the«Cuban» sandwich. The bottom bun was completely soggy, the sliced ham mine as well been a slice of bologna. Worst $ 13 sandwich ever. Went again a few days later and, for the first time, ordered the bargain entrée, «Pan Seared Chicken Breast.» It looked like they took a chicken breast, poorly pan seared, cut it into 6 pieces yet plated only 3 pieces in a rinky dink fashion. When you pay this kind of money for food, you need to cross all the T’s and dot all the I’s. Lastly, I really dont wanna yell over a bad peter paul and mary acoustic set to make conversation at the table I’m at. I have been back because It used to be pretty delicious and I love sitting on a patio. not sure whats happening up there now.

You must go to this place! They have Monday happy hour all day for wine and well drinks. My husband and I go here for date nights. It’s a place where you don’t feel like your in Shreveport. Their appetizers and food is amazing. We often order the truffle fries. The wine selection is nice and our favorite wine is the Sexual Chocolate. They have a nice bottle selection for purchase and they have wine by the glass. This place is somewhere you can dress up and have a great evening!

I had my tastebuds geared up for brunch on Sat am at 11 as their website touted a yummy looking brunch menu. When we arrived, we learned that brunch is only on Sundays… that was disappointing but we each chose our lunch items and skipped the mimosas/bloody mary’s. My mom had the burger and it was the best item I tasted. My BLT I didn’t care for… who chops up the bacon and doesn’t leave it whole? The service was excellent and the server didn’t pressure our group of 6 even after hanging out 2 hrs catching up. All in all, this is a cute little spot with some tasty bites… but they need to extend their brunch menu to Saturday!

My fiancé and I ate here last weekend and were blown away! We had a couple glasses of wine and for entrees I had the salmon and my fiancé had the ny strip. I also had a yummy cosmo made by Joanna at the bar! Thanks ;) Both entrees were superb! My salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly medium on the inside and a beautiful crust on the outside. The corn croquettes were delicious and not greasy at all. It Salmon is served with a cute iron skillet of veggies with cajun spices – delicious! The Strip was a great cut of meat! We both loved it. My fiancé asked for an arugula salad instead of asparagus – no problem :) I can’t wait for our next trip to Shreveport to go back to this restaurant. Thanks so much!

My wife and I came to Wine Country for our first anniversary because some reviews said it was the best restaurant in Shreveport. We started off with the shrimp grits, which was good. I got the duck breast, which I really liked. It was medium rare duck breast on collard greens served with cornbread and it was really delicious. My wife got the special that night, which was lobster tail served with crab meat and a corn purée. That was disappointing, because there was a few kernels of corn, not a purée, and a few pieces of crab meat. Overall, the food wasn’t bad but for what we were paying, it was disappointing. The ambience was good and the place looked nice. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. If the special was better, then it would have been a better experience.

I am truly shocked that this place has such high ratings. I ate here for the first time last night and it’s solidly mediocre at best. My husband and I, celebrating his birthday, were hopeful that we might have at last found some great cuisine in this town.(We’ve been living here about seven months and have yet to find anything besides a great Mexican joint and some Phở that are worth leaving the house for.) Where to start! We each ordered a salad and a «first course» of shared mussels. The mussels arrived ahead of the salad, but that’s ok. The mussels — most of them — were tasty. However, there were several under-cooked. One that did not open and others that were simply underdone. Any decent establishment should know better than to serve an unopened mussel! The salads arrived — oh brother. They were oversized with greens hanging off the plate; completely lacking any finesse whatsoever with giant hunks of romaine drooping off his plate and globs of goat cheese on my salad with poorly toasted pine nuts. Oh so close to being good, but really just ho-hum. My husband’s salad was supposed to have pork on it… though it tasted exactly like lamb. We both have rather finely tuned palates and were in awe. It also came with a wonderful helping of plastic wrap. Yes, I said plastic wrap! These matters(the mussels, plastic wrap, lamb-tasting pork) were brought to our server’s attention. Naturally, the manager came to see us. He apologized for the plastic wrap and knew it was unacceptable. He let us know that he just tore his chef a new one! Really, how professional of you to share that with your dining guests. I have no doubt that’s what a manager would do, but it’s really inappropriate to tell your guests this so crassly. When we mentioned the under-cooked mussels, his response was«these things happen.» First, he thinks that an under-cooked mussel really only means the one that was unopened. There are other signs of under-cooked mussels even if the shells are opened! He needs to learn this, as does the kitchen staff/chef. Second, we understand that sometimes mussels don’t open — but they should never make it to the plate! Pay attention to details. My husband, firmly convinced that he was not served pork on his salad, mentioned this to the manager; of course, he insists it really was pork. When asked«how do you get pork to taste like lamb?» the manager’s reply was«because it’s smoked.» Boy did we get a laugh at that. If you don’t know the answer, just say you don’t know, but don’t try to bluff your way through it — especially when you’re dealing with savvy people. Does he think we’ve never had smoked pork before? Wouldn’t we know that smoked pork does not taste like lamb?! Nevertheless, it remains«mystery meat» in our eyes. On to the entrees… my husband’s duck was pretty good, but wasn’t properly rendered. It takes a modicum of knowledge to properly cook duck breast and, not surprisingly, this place doesn’t have it. Overall, flavor was good, but could have been better. I had grilled salmon and it was certainly nothing to write home about. In summary, as I mentioned previously, there’s just no finesse here. The menu looks so good in print, but truly fails to deliver. They could really benefit from some knowledgeable kitchen and management staff. The one redeeming quality was a delightful waitress. If it sounds like I’m hard to please, perhaps I am, but what I want is pretty simple; excellent food and service. But I guess that’s the price I pay for having a refined palate and the experience of dining in great establishments across this country; I’m spoiled.(I realize this sounds like I’m self-aggrandizing, but it’s not. No snobbery here. I love a wide range of foods, dining establishments, etc.) I’m willing to pay good money for good food, but this just wasn’t it. I highly suggest you save your money and stay home(or come to my house where we can out-cook these folks any day of the week.) But if your expectations aren’t high and you don’t mind throwing cash at mediocre, this is the place for you. My quest for truly delightful, higher-end cuisine in this town continues. Sigh.

This place is a local favorite of ours and we returned for dinner, Between us, we had duck breast, truffle risotto, and braised pork shank. We also had escargot and soft shell crab appetizer and these were both good, but also pricey. The main entrees were good but off a bit in that the son’s duck breast was tasty but also tough and chewy. The white beans with my tender and succulent braised pork shank(very good) were undercooked. Wife was ok with her truffle risotto. There was also a slight disappointment when my Tinroof amber, a local beer out of Baton Rouge, came out of a can and not a bottle, but this is a wine bistro and I can’t say its the bistro’s issue on the beer supplier. Most of the restaurant main dining was filled with reserved spots, and we ended up at a small bar table. We were told we were lucky to get seated as it was relatively quiet given that there was an LSU football game going that apparently kept a few diners away. Overall, a good and also pricey outing here, but I can’t say it was particularly exceptional.
