They advertise curb service but didn’t go well for us last time we tried it. We stopped a couple of days ago to order take out and were told lunch ends at 2:30 and the line was shut down. We were leaving and realized it was not yet 2:30. Called back and the girl seemed surprised this happened but we decided not to order. We go pretty often, food is pretty good, just get there early if you want lunch.

The atmosphere was ok. The service prompt. I ordered the Friday special Catfish, and fries. The fish was seasoned very well. The fish was hot and fresh!

Fairly good home-style food and usually friendly service. We especially love the chocolate and strawberry icebox pies. The mustard greens are also phenomenal. Even if you don’t care for greens, give them a try. They are flavored perfectly… except on Wednesdays as they have a different cook preparing them on that day who puts way too much seasoning in them and they simply do not taste good at all on that day. I will say that this location has never been as good as the Kings Hwy location and it is gradually getting worse. We sometimes sit a while before getting our order taken(we are often brought water soon after sitting down and we indicate we are ready to order but the waitress has to tend to other duties first) and then when we try to order we are told they are no longer serving the lunch special even though we were there 5 to 10 minutes before it ended. Once i even had the waitress tell my wife that she glanced at the clock when we walked in and we came in past time. Their clock on the wall was currently showing 2:31 and we had been sitting there for about eight minutes. The hashbrowns are not edible. They are large chunks of hard and dried out potatoes that were cooked too long ago. I don’t care what time of day you go, they are always this way which makes me wonder if they save and reheat from previous days.

Took 3 of my grandchildren and met a friend there for lunch last week. Although the burgers ARE thin, it was still good. The hash browns were almost inedible. They appeared to have been cooked earlier in the day and rewarded to the point of being brick hard. The service was absolutely THE worst. Once the order was taken and the food delivered, our waitress was gone! Had to wave her down for drink refills. As the check was already on the table, I had to get up to go ask her for pie; however, she DID find time to visit with her co-workers behind the counter! Surprised that whoever was managing the place did not see people craning their necks to find their waitress.

I prefer the original Strawn’s, but they are all good. Funny thing is… if I didnt compare this one to the one on Kings, it would get a higher rating. Strawn’s sets the bar so high that it really just competes against itself. Now that’s a good problem to have. I will say again, STRAWN’S! FIGUREOUT A WAYTOOPENINDFW.

It has been years since I have eaten Strawn’s strawberry pie. This is actually the first time I’ve ever eaten at Strawn’s. I had high hopes, but the homemade hashbrowns were giant potato chunks cooked on the griddle. The mass of potatoes don’t allow for a crispy treat. Ultimately, they were steamed and exceedingly bland. The omelette was better. Actually, it was quite good, but I’ll be sure to have one without American cheese. If they offered cheddar or pepper jack, that omelette would have been top notch. We got two slices of pie – one chocolate and one strawberry. They were both good, but the chocolate filling tasted like Jello pudding. I was expecting some spectacular pie given my experience with other pies. The strawberry pie was really good, but not like I remember. It seemed a bit light on strawberries. Next time I’ll just go to Southfield Grill for the lemon pie. It is unbelievable.

A taste of southern food! We had the meatloaf and chicken fried steak and there were delicious. Big portions as well. For the dessert we had chocolate and coconut pie.

The food I had was very greasy and it tasted bland. With my meal I also had hash browns which were just cubes of cold potatoes. I would not go back.

We went here today and got a couple of burgers. The burgers had a good taste but the other reviewer was correct when they said the patties were thin. They weren’t exaggerating either the patties were like a half centimeter thick. Hardly anything at all. We also split an order of fries which were very good. They’re gonna have to add more meat if they wish to stay competitive.

We had the opportunity to visit the Shreveport Area, we found Strawn’s Eats Shop Too. This is a family owned diner, where this location is a spinoff of their original location on Kings Highway. We ordered one dinner from their nightly special menu. It was a great deal for $ 7.50. The chicken fried steak had the crispy crust, even with gravy. For the sides, we took the mac & cheese, mustard greens and corn bread complete the dinner. Delicious. Friendly staff. The cashier even took time to talk about the Strawn’s family history and the historical photos on the wall. Definitely worthy of another visit. We will try to visit original location as well.

Before I moved to the far North about 18 months ago, my brother and I used to eat breakfast here prior to our golf game on Saturday mornings. I really looked forward to those fried eggs, wheat toast, limp bacon and coffee. I was back in town last weekend visiting family and friends and my brother and I revisited the restaurant prior to our morning golf game. Was I impressed or what! When the waitress saw me she asked«do you want your normal»? I thought I’d see what happened so I said«sure would»! You wouldn’t believe it. I got my 2 eggs over medium, my limp bacon, my wheat toast and my coffee! Now tell me that experience alone isn’t worth a 5 rating. The food? Oh come on, the eggs were cooked like I wanted, the bacon cooked like I like it, the wheat toast toasted just right and all the coffee and cream I wanted! In other words my food also gets a 5 rating! You can’t believe how one feels when they return to a place and remembered the way I was. This normally only happens in a small town restaurant, not one frequented by 100’s of people a day. Maybe my breakfast would be called pretty basic, and said to be hard to mess up. Maybe so, but it was perfect for me and being remembered was worth the 1000 mile trip to get that basic breakfast.

Go here often. Celeste is a sweetheart and always gives my kiddos stickers. :) but my husband had a fly in his food our last visit. :/we weren’t pleased especially since the cool didn’t want to remake the omelet. But he remade it anyways.

This review is specifically for their pies. For the last three years, I bought their pies ever couple of months. After three strikes, I decided no more. I used to love their strawberries and peach pies. However, for the last year or so, I’ve noticed significant drop in quality and consistency in their pies. One time, the strawberries were too tart and not the pie was VERY Runny. Another time, it was filled with whipped cream and barely one thin layer of strawberries. Last two peach pies were pretty bad — again, mostly whipped cream and under ripen peaches. I kept buying their pies thinking it would be one off incident. After having 7 – 8 pies that were not up to par, I told myself«enough is enough» For $ 20 pie, it’s not worth to have a pie that is mostly whipped cream.

Strawn’s may have started out to be a great restaurant in Shreveport. The owners now have become lazy and strayed from the path of fresh veggies opting for canned vegetables and frozen meats. The meatloaf I had was good not to salty. My wife had the chicken fried steak and it was way to salty. The strawberry pie was good. I would go back for the pie only next time.

This is actually the first place that I’ve been to that I believe other Unilocal users have gotten so wrong. For starters we wanted to go the original location and couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone during business hours. So we chose to go to the alternative location. They have daily lunch specials and dinner specials as well. The problem was that the lunch special was fried chicken when we got there and we all pretty much wanted the fried chicken, well the special time ends at 2:30 and starts back again 5. We arrived at 2:35. Didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me that they don’t serve fried chicken for 2 and half hours. Not really sure what that accomplishes for them. We even tried numerous times with a few different people to persuade someone to let us get fried chicken. It didn’t work. Ok so not a huge deal this place is supposed to have other great things. I got the burger. Nothing I’d really want to again. I’ve had better burgers through any fast food joint. I’m still hoping for something great with this place and they are known for the pies. I really wasn’t impressed them. We got a slice of each flavor on the menu that day and to be fair some of them were really good. But the majority were just a bunch of fruit with some whipped cream on them in my opinion. I think this place is highly overrated and the staff seemed out of it. Now I see why everyone around us was eating breakfast in the middle of the afternoon.

Visiting Louisiana, I was looking for Louisiana-style cuisine.(Yeah, I know, I was in Shreveport.) This breakfast place turned out to be Southern, not Louisiana, cooking, but served a good omelet, once I got over my prejudice against American cheese(which is what the term«cheese» means in these parts).

Strawn’s is a Shreveport institution. Everybody in town knows about it, which explains why they had to expand to a second location. The food here is just as good as the original on King’s. What’s different is the feel. Too feels newer(it is), but it also therefore comes with a bit less«character» than the original. Hell, I can even remember the original before they took out the wall and moved into the shop next door. Yep, it was that small at one point. When you visit Strawn’s — whether the original or Too — you’re going for a down-home, quickly-prepared diner and soul food experience. Everything tastes freshly prepared, just like yo mamma would do it if she had the time and still had the energy. Chicken friend steak, fried chicken, cornbread, burgers, etc. It’s all good here. But as anybody in Shreveport can tell you, the biggest seller is the pie. These are«icebox» pies, so they’re served cold with generous helpings of smooth whipped cream on top. So simple, yet so delicious. My favorites are strawberry(see the picture) and chocolate(in that order) but I hear good things about butterscotch too, though one friend warned me that it was«too rich» for him. Whether you’re a local or passing through, Strawn’s is a must-have. I make it a point to visit every time I come home. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Strawn’s Too was my dining choice while passing through Shreveport. It was in a disappointing location. Shreveport is also pretty grimey to me, and this joint was not in the ghetto, but rather the busy, hustle-and-bustle enormous shopping complex South of downtown. Not a cool experience. The original posted«closed at 8PM» hours for Sunday, but when I called, they closed at 3. Talk about annoying. Also, the service was off. My server gave us the wrong food once, forgot to refill our waters, and was not very attentive overall. I had to wait til 5 for dinner specials, but when I got my food, it was lukewarm. Perhaps they were reheating stuff or something while I waited to order. Meat and 3s should be piping hot right out of the shoot… sadly, that did not happen here. For example, the cornbread was very hard, and the macaroni and cheese was not moist and creamy, but just cold and runny. The proteins: the meatloaf was meaty, but tough. The«red» gravy was just a mediocre ketchup base. The beef tips were flavorful but lacked exceptional tenderness. Also, I thought they could have been served hotter. The mashed potatoes and gravy both tasted processed to the extreme. The greens were probably the most redeeming of the bunch. The green beans had a slight peppery flavor, and the mustard greens possessed the slight sweetness from the red wine vinegar. All in all, not a good experience from a local institution. The atmosphere was too fake, the service was mediocre, and the food did not come up to par of true Southern eateries. Go somewhere else to bust your gut in this commuter town.

Passing through Shreveport to visit a friend, we decided to meet for a quick breakfast. When walking into the establishment. I was reminded of my own local breakfast spot at home(Jack’s). The place was filled with locals, and that’s the way I like it. … as breakfasts go. It was okay. The pie was good, but I don’t get all the hoopla. A little underwhelmed… but still a decent choice.
