Stayed for two days while we visited Antietam and Harper’s Ferry. Room was comfortable and roomy. They even had DVDs so we could brush up on the history before visiting the battlefield. All the modern conveniences while surrounded by civil war era décor. We were able to enjoy the porch outside our room at the end of the day. So glad I found this Inn. Location was perfect. Chris was a great host and gave us lots of information about the area and breakfast was amazing. Can’t wait to book another trip!

Our stay here was delightful! The room was beautiful, from civil war era décor, to beautiful vaulted ceilings, and the sheets and comforter were the best I’ve ever slept in. Breakfast was amazing: homemade cherry cobbler, scrambled eggs with herbs, ricotta cheese pancakes, fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, tea … lovely! I brought my parents and a couple they’re friends with by to see the cottage; they loved it so much they want to book a surprise stay for their daughter. Really, really neat inn!

Small group decided on a get away weekend. Amenities are superb, owners accommodating and gracious. Of all the choices available in Sharpsburg we are so glad we stayed here. Central location allows walking, bicycle, or short auto hop to battlefield and all the village. Bike rentals from the Inn are so convenient, as well as roadside assistance from the owners. The Breakfast is outstanding, geared toward the guest and as much or as little as you want. We as a group are chanting, «We will go back, we will go back.»

This place is WONDERFUL. We came for a visit to get away from the stresses of the city. The house was gorgeous, the grounds were lush, the room was clean, and Joanne and Paul were very welcoming. They are very helpful about helping you figure out what you want to do in the area. Some of the room’s highlights: the clawfoot tub in the bathroom makes for a relaxing bath, the bed is very comfortable(soft sheets and memory foam!), and there are warm and comfy robes to snuggle up in. As for the breakfast, it is nothing short of decadent. Joanne is an amazing cook and an attentive hostess. In the middle of breakfast she gave a brief lecture on the history of the house and the area. She knows her history and has a fascinating way of delivering it. Definitely hope to return sometime soon!

A wonderful place for a nice, relaxing weekend. The wife and I went up a couple of weekends ago after looking for a way to get away from the relative insanity of our lives. We searched the web for Bed and Breakfasts in West Virginia — it seemed far enough away to be relaxing, but not so distant that travel would be a pain. Joanne and Paul welcome you into their beautifully-decorated 19th century home. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The bed was a little small in our room(the Clara Barton) but the room was listed as «cozy.» Every morning they prepare breakfast for you — usually a little heavy on the carb side(lots of breads/bread derivatives) but delicious nonetheless. Meats, eggs, delicious coffee, all of which can be customized to your liking. They are more than willing to work around dietary requirements. Breakfast is a little early for those who really want to relax — 8:30am — but some folks came down late(9 to 9:30) and still got to join the group in eating. After breakfast, it’s best to head into Shepherdstown in WV.(There’s very little to do in Sharpsburg, except for Burkholder’s Baked Goods at 106 High Street.) In Sheperdstown, there’s a great little main street with some nice shops and restaurants. We didn’t get a chance to visit the Antietam battlefield, but perhaps we will next time. Frederick also isn’t terribly far. Some think that the house is haunted — it’s named for a man who was shot dead by Confederate soldiers. The room we stayed in, according to Joanne and Paul, was the room where Jacob was shot dead. Thankfully she didn’t tell us this until we were ready to check out!(Some have complained of the room being haunted… we’re not of the type to believe this stuff, but still, probably a good idea to hold off telling people until they leave.) All in all, it’s a wonderful place to spend a relaxing weekend. I can’t recommend it enough.
