Been here twice. The first time I came here I had their chicken wings and coconut beef. At that time, their chicken wings were to die for. But then I came back here for the second time just for the wings and it was disapointing. Their chicken wings were not as crispy, a little bit too salty, and too dry. The coconut beef was too salty for me.

Residents of via6, the half off brunch is 1 per key fob, something they fail to mention in the ads. Service was slow, food ok. Eggs Benedict is the only good thing on the brunch menu.

Great food, great service, great drinks. We had the coconut beef, the wings, the salmon, and a side of asparagus in their house fermented black bean sauce. Honestly, it was all amazing. A bit on the salty side, but still delicious. The wings really are like crack. And for someone who doesn’t normally like salmon — wow. No fishy taste at all. Everything was fresh. Serveres were vey nice and attentive. I also had the house made lychee cocktail and the green tea cocktail. Liked the lychee, didn’t like the green tea. I will say that I wasn’t really a fan of the location. Its kind of in this no mans land in downtown Seattle. We were there at 8:30PM on a Saturday and it felt empty. And not many places nearby either.

I had creamed greens with fried onions. Came with fried tofu and pickled apples and small hot pepper sliced. It was a really nice light delicious dish. This place is really very nice in terms of its atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. Would definitely love to come here again and try more dishes.

This is one of our favorite neighborhood spots. The food is not only great but so is the service! More and more these days in Seattle with newer restaurants great service IS hard to find. We have family members with life-threatening nut allergies and the manager Matt and server Carly are so attentive and empathetic. We are regulars at this location and they know how to make sure there is no cross contamination with our food orders. As for the food, we love the chicken wings. They’ve got a great crisp on the outside and the flavor is great. The burger and the crispy shoestring fries are also very good. And for a great low carb option the mackerel has great flavor. The full portion is large but if that’s the only thing you’re having you can definitely finish it!

Interesting mix of other Asian«influenced» restaurants. There is nothing really on the menu(actually there are 3, one for drinks, one for dumplings and the regular menu) that I’ve seen anywhere else. House made kimchi and other pickled veggies are really good. My only real complaint is that their prices seem quite high

This is my absolute favorite Lunch spot. I’m a huge fan of the dumpling bar and the cocktails. Service is excellent, especially in the bar area, where Nick makes magical cocktails and hot sake. I’m officially a regular!

Tom Douglas has a usual formula: take a traditional food style, keep the basics but throw in some unique ingredients. He did it well with southern food at Etta’s, Greek food at Lola. Tanaka San is his take on Japanese. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work. I was here for restaurant week and tried the miso soup, coconut beef bites, and caramel sundae. I hated the miso; it tasted like a barnyard(and not in a farm fresh ingredients sort of way). The coconut beef bites were okay, but it sounded better than it actually tasted. The spicy stuff on top disrupted the whole dish, and the beef was not of a particularly high quality.(If you want a good example of beef bites, try Amy’s on the Bay). The sundae was good, but not enough to make up for the disappointment of the rest of the meal. I would not recommend.

The food was really good but the waitress wasn’t the best. Overall I really enjoyed my dinner and the food great. Plus the gold spray painted Godzillas really add to the atmosphere

I went in with low expectations based on the Unilocal reviews and was very pleasently surprised! We had a shrimp dumpling ap which was great along with the beef taka. The ribs were succulent and the dessert was a nice finish. Great dining expierence. It is being labeled right now into godzillabar at tanakasan.

Yummy yum yum! So I LOVE assembly hall! The whole place is such a great hang with all kinds of tasty delectables at your disposal. Tanakasan being one of them, it’s been on my list to try and I finally got the chance. What we had: Salmon Curry chicken thighs Now, I’ll say, for me, the lunch portion of the salmon was much smaller than I had expected, but for a healthy lunch option it’s a good moderate portion size… So it just depends on how you look at it, but if you’re hungry, be forewarned. The chicken, however was very filling and VERY delicious! I’d totally recommend it. Both bento boxes came with some sort of deviled mashed potatoes, a twisted deviled egg, kimchi, and we opted for the brown rice. I had the jasmine green tea which was among the most fragrant I’ve ever had. The service was great and, as we looked over to the adjacent tables delicious spread, I decided that we’d be back to try more of what tanakasan has to offer.

But but but… I love Tom Douglas! I like the idea of Tanakasan, and I’m not anti-fusion…but I was underwhelmed. Service was friendly, but the food was quite salty and just did not meet the expectations that I have of Tom Douglas. I also did not like the atmosphere. I think the restraint would be better suited for a more intimate setting. It kind of feels like a restraint in an airport terminal. I would likely give 3 stars, but I hold TD to a higher standard. Meh!

Oh Tom Douglas, your modern Asian fusion restaurant is nothing more than one of the typical modern Asian confusion restaurants that have been popping up all over Seattle like shiitake mushrooms. I came here with some friends to celebrate a birthday a few months back but we left extremely disappointed. As with any other Tom Douglas restaurant service is excellent but the food at Tanakasan is just disgusting. I ordered the chicken wings, pork ramen, pork and chive dumpling, and braised beef. If I could describe how all of these dishes related it would be how salty everything was. Tanakasan’s interpretation of fish sauce wings will leave your mouth and fingers smelling like ass from the excess use of fish sauce. The ramen was floating in fat-inedible. The pork and chive and chive dumplings were okay and the braised beef was just too salty. None of us could finish what we ordered due to how salty everything was and we ended up walking across the street to the McDonalds to finish up dinner-at least you can’t really taste the amount of sodium we were ingesting there.

We love Tanakasan and especially like sitting at the chefs bar. It’s fun to watch them prepare foods as we order. This time I hit Unilocal to check recent reviews and found diners raving about the Coconut Beef and Osaka pancake. We had these and true to reviews, both were wonderful. I don’t think the wine selection has ever been good here(should be featuring more local wines), so this time we tried the hot sake with amomatic seasoning(nice if you like something hot) and the chilled Ruby Red sake slushy(great!).

Took my little sister out for srw lunch to tanakasan, l. We were pleasantly surprised by the consistency of great service and good food, despite some of the reviews on slow service. For a busy restaurant week day, our server was accommodating and gave us excellent service. Menu had a lot of choices both vegetarian and carnivore friendly. Even for srw! Lunch srw was 2 entrees for $ 15 and dinner srw was 3 for $ 30. We both ordered the pork ribs for our appetizer. She ordered the beef entrée, and I had the wild salmon for mine. The wild salmon dish definitely needs a starch to pair with the salty nature of the fish and stir fried gai lan(future reference). The beef entrée was a reasonable portion and had fruity curry hints, very well prepared dish. No dessert served since it was for lunch srw, but we were full anyways! Another fun tom Douglas restaurant.

Disclaimer: this review is for dinner during SRW($ 30 for 3 courses). Tom Douglas, please don’t hate me for rating TanakaSan as your weakest link. Don’t get me wrong — I’m a huge fan! But when a restaurant is linked to the TD name, expectations run high. I started my dinner with the salted caramel twice fried chicken wings(whew, what a mouthful!) They were quite flavorful, but had an overwhelming amount of breading. For my entrée, I chose the smoked tofu with asian pear and glazed carrots. This caught me by surprise. Instead of the wok/stir fry style I had expected, I was presented with four pieces of cold, dry tofu. Atop, thin slices of sour pear and mushy carrots. I ended my meal with the butter mochi and coconut gelato. Finally, something with substance! The mochi was quite good(although my mom makes better), but I must admit it was the best part of the meal. The service wasn’t worth noting. On the other hand, the ambiance was divine! All in all, I wouldn’t choose TanakaSan if you’re looking to have an enjoyable TD experience.

Since the traffic will suck my bestie and I decided to meet at Tanakasan which is part of Via 6 apartment on 6th ave dt seattle. We went for HH and their food was delicious!!! We ordered Osaka pancake which was delicious!!! I highly recommend it. It was filled with veggies, shrimp, and the sauces were well for for it(though I told them to take off bacon because I don’t eat bacon – I’m peskatarian but even when I did eat meat long ago I just can’t do bacon). We also ordered rice cakes which were amazing!!! They look like rice with soy sauce and you put nori(seaweed) wrappers and dip it in their mayo sauce and it’s just amazing. Also highly recommend it. My girlfriend had twice fried chicken wings and she loved it! She’s very petite and doesn’t eat much but she finished this one and the pancake so hey, it must be good right? For dessert we ordered mochi ice cream and it was good and all but it wasn’t mochi it was this light pastry with a scoop of ice cream, some granola things, and blueberries which was delicious!!! The only reason I gave it a 4 stars is because it was pricey(but we’re by Amazon and lake Union). I’m broke. Even the HH price was pricey. But it was delicious and the service was amazing!

I was pleasantly surprised with Tanakasan. If you want to have a good experience don’t go in expecting Japanese food. It’s Tom Douglas cooking«Japanese» for white people = Asian fusion.(My grandma would be baffled about why they have bento boxes on their dinner menu.) Their sake slushies were absolutely delicious! The most genius fusion thing since putting avocados in sushi. Coconut beef bowl was great. Not that impressed with spicy wings. And the bento box was a-okay. For the same kind of food, I still prefer Wann Izakaya.

Five stars for brunch, but only four for dinner. Brunch: Not very crowded on a Saturday morning. We had a chance to play shuffleboard at the deserted shuffleboard tables upstairs while waiting for our party. Service was very quick and friendly and offered several suggestions. I’m not normally a big juice fan, but the tropical spice one was perfectly balanced between spicy and bright. The pork congee was delicious. Though the main body of the dish was a bit spongy like grits or oatmeal, the pork and Chinese doughnuts added a good crispy and crunchy texture. The veggies and sauces also brought good flavor throughout and by the end I was stuffed. The skillet hash was the standout though, complete with a fried egg on top. The veggies and meat were very crispy and had great flavor that shone through and the skillet was cool. Dinner: Much more crowded after work on a weekday so a reservation was in order. The staff was just as friendly and helpful and even suggested other places to try for dessert if we were in the mood for something different. The beer selection was decent, but very hoppy. The pancakes were a nice appetizer and the sauce was very tasty. The chicken katsu was a bit bland though. The meat at the top was tasty and had good sauce, but it didn’t make it through all the rice and by the end it was essentially just white rice.
