This restaurant is in a questionable neighborhood and looks like a complete dump inside. I really couldn’t get passed it. The food was good and the staff was very nice. We asked for an extra fortune cookie for our daughter because she dropped hers and they brought her a box of them. The vegetarian options are limited so I had the vegetable fried rice and it was good. Our table ordered Kung Pao chicken, beef and mushrooms and pork fried rice. Everyone else said the best food comes from the whole in the wall but I really had a hard time with the run down environment.

Set in a sketchy part of town, Chinatown, it gave me a pause prior to entering. I was told by the concierge at my hotel it was respectable and to give it a try. Upon entering there were several awards on the wall from local papers. It was definitely dated inside but not totally off putting. It seemed a bit run down. I was seated quickly and the server took sometime to explain some of the items on the menu. Should be noted most entrees come WITHOUT rice or noodles. Our order was Kung Pao chicken, pork and vegetable fried rice and spare ribs. All were served fairly quickly and in generous portions. The food was average, but not terrible. From downtown convention area it was a 25 minute walk through some«interesting» areas, never felt like I was in danger, but was on alert. If I visit Seattle again this most likely will not be on my list for a return visit.

Line is wacko(between 10 – 1) and when you finally get in there is cart service with a million foods from dumplings, to buns, to chow mein, to chicken feet. They just start serving you random items without you really asking for it so it’s important to be really specific unless you are feeling really adventurous. As much as I like authentic experiences in non American restaurants the food didn’t blow me away. That said, prices are lower than DTF so in terms of value you get more bang for your buck.

TLDR; Service sucked, food was mediocre, and I was not impressed! Full review: Being the only patrons at 5pm, I expected we would be served rather quickly. I was wrong. It took an eternity to get the food, and the manager/server was unapologetic. Well, he verbalized a sorry, but it was empty, and he didn’t attempt to make up for it in any way. Food quality was ok, I’ve had better at the dinky fast food Chinese restaurant than at this supposed sit down«nice» place. The fried rice and the fried calamari were the best items, and they should not have been the best compared to some of the other entrees we ordered. Those should’ve been the highlight. Gordon Ramsey needs to come here and kick some ass!

I was not impressed. I had been given rave reviews about this place from friends and I was so looking forward to experiencing this so called amazing restaurant. First of all, the service was just terrible. We were immediately sat but then we sat at our table for over ten minutes. Multiple servers looked at us yet didn’t acknowledge us or ask us if we had been helped. I finally tracked down a server and he begrudgingly took out order. He acted as if we were a burden. The place was empty! There were only two other tables sat. We asked some questions in regards to the dumplings since we had never been there before and we barely got an answer. It was disappointing. We ordered two different kinds of dumplings; pork and the barbecue pork buns. It took over fifteen minutes for these simple items to come to our table. The pork buns had no flavor and the pork dumplings were very chewy and frankly, disgusting. I only ate one. The bbq pork buns were decent and the flavor was alright. I didn’t really have any qualms about them especially since they were only $ 5. I certainly wouldn’t go back for them. We then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes for our bill when, again, it was obvious we were done, servers had looked at us and there was nobody in the restaurant. My friend tracked somebody down and give him his credit card. Sadly, our experience was awful. I do think if we came back and try something else maybe we’ll have a better food experience but I certainly cannot vouch for the customer experience. I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Your typical, crowded, dingy dim sum joint. Being somewhat of a dim sum junkie, I was told that Harbor City and Jade Garden seemed to be the two big dim sum juggernauts in the area, so we gave Jade Garden a chance. We came at prime weekend brunch hours, so we ended up waiting about 45 minutes. You have to put your name down on the list in the front, and they don’t really have an efficient system of seating, and sometimes you might have to share a table with complete strangers. So yeah, basically like any dim sum restaurant ever. My favorites were the har gow(shrimp dumplings), and the deep-fried taro dumplings, and the pan-fried turnip cakes. The har gow were very large and the shrimp inside was tender enough. The pan-fried turnip cakes were definitely made fresh, albeit a little greasy. Yet, they were super delicious and filling. The deep-taro dumplings were thankfully hot, and always a crowd favorite because of their resemblance to hairy balls. Wait, what? The service was actually better than I expected. If there was any dish that we wanted that we were missing, the roaming waiters were pretty good about finding it among the carts or in the kitchen. However, it took forever for us to get our tea/water refilled. In terms of getting tables ready and turned over, the process is horribly inefficient. While we were waiting for a table, I noticed that there were empty tables that had not been cleaned for about 20 minutes, which just should not happen. People were getting really impatient after waiting so long for their tables, and got really mad at the hostesses, which I felt bad about. I honestly don’t think you can fault a restaurant for being popular, but in this case, the constantly empty tables are a problem, and that you can fault them for. Yet, the prices here are dirt-cheap, so you can’t complain too much. The 4 of us ate for $ 44 total, which included tax and tip, and we were uncomfortably full afterwards. I don’t hate that. I have yet to try Harbor City, which seems to have better Unilocal ratings overall, so I can’t speak to it being the best option in the area, but I thought Jade Garden was A-OK. Nothing particularly wowed me, but it was a solid experience, and I wouldn’t mind making a return trip, if the crowds can be avoided.

This place is constantly packed during lunch time, so expect to wait a while unless you have a small party and are willing to share a table with other groups. It’s less crowded at night, and the last time I was here, we were seated immediately. But of course, you’re most likely going to be here purely for the dim sum anyways, which another reviewer mentioned ends at 4 pm. The dim sum is comparable to Harbor City. It’s your standard dim sum options; you can’t really go wrong with anything. If you’re from the Bay Area /California, this place might not live up to your expectations(and neither will any others, to be honest), but Jade Garden and Harbor City are still the best dim sum restaurants I’ve tried in Seattle. It’s worth noting they’re both literally right across the street from each other as well. Street parking is a pain, but I’ve had luck finding spots on 7th Ave S and S Main St at the top of the hill.

How have I not reviewed Jade Garden??? This place is a hard one to review. On one hand, I believe this is the best all-round dim sum in Seattle. On the other hand I recently went to Hong Kong and found out what great dim sum tastes like. Still you’ll find the restaurant packed every weekend, since there aren’t better options. Lots of carts, so they have a full range of all the dim sum choices. Nothing stands out as being the best, but everything is good. Reasonably priced, you can get your fill of dim sum for around $ 10 – 15 per person. At dinner, the crowds thin out and you’ll be able to enjoy the dinner menu. They have some really great set menus that are very reasonable for large groups. Again, everything is pretty good, but not great. Dinging stars for the International District charm(cleanliness), ridiculous wait, and general service/friendliness. I’ve personally never been sick here, but people we’ve taken out to dim sum here have.

Super crowded but fast service and food to die for. BESTFOOD: all the dimsum dishes, 腸粉, Sticky Rice The beauty of dimsum is that all the dishes are small and if you go with medium to large sized parties, you get to try a lot of different dishes. Basically anything that looks good, tastes good. Some other dimsum places have dry pastries, but everythign about this palce is on point. I personally like 腸粉 and Sticky Rice the most and could keep reordering these. They’re both savory dishes covered in sweet soy sauce. SERVICE: carts Like most dimsum places, tables aren’t assigned servers. Instead, there are carts that go around and you order whatever is on that cart that you want. The only downside is that it’s hard to get the staff’s attention when you need your water/tea refilled or to get the bill. Otherwise, food comes super quickly and you’ll never have an empty table(aka filled stomachs). SEATING: round tables Most tables are round tables with lazy susans in the center so it’s easier to access all the food on the table without having people to pass it around. Even though it was very crowded and loud, somehow the carts could make its way around. Also since dimsum is a very social meal, the amount of people didn’t bother us at all. Lastly, super cheap when split among the 6 of us. We ordered A LOT(over 20 dishes) and it came down to $ 12/person.

It’s a hit and miss for this place. There had been times when I didn’t have to wait too long. Their dim sum is great but cleanliness? Definitely need improvement all around. This is one reason why I rarely come here anymore. Otherwise, it would be enjoyable if only they put some focus on cleanliness. It will definitely bring them more fortune. I’m just saying… Staff is always in a hurry for turn around and often forget to be attentive as well. That’s all I got. Let’s work on this, shall we?

I typically go to Honey Court for Dim Sum when I’m in the International District. However, today they were closed for a private party. Thankfully, Jade was open. The Dim Sum(and selection of it) was traditional, delicious, and the spot itself is very authentic. They do frequently yell orders over customers’ heads though, so if you’re sensitive to noise, perhaps this isn’t the spot for you. I wok definitely will be back!

Ended up here due to referrals by fellow Unilocalers stating this is the best dim sum in Seattle which piqued my curiosity. I’d say dim sum quality is 3 stars. Front desk folks are very friendly and accommodating, even the servers. My only«gripe» would be that due to the size of the restaurant, it’s not easy to maneuver the dim sum carts around easily, and they end up staying in one spot for too long that by the time the dim sum cart comes around us, we barely don’t have enough selection left. Good to try, would more than likely not come back. PS: Dim sum ends at 4 pm.

I was feeling traditional Cantonese dim sum because I have two favorite dishes I always crave: shrimp cheung fun and hao gao. I went here on a Thursday afternoon with my boyfriend. We ordered those two items as well as BBQ pork, and Shu Mia. The food is very sub par. I feel as if the cheung fun and hao gao are not fresh because it had a rubbery and dry texture. The sweet soy sauce that came with it tasted like all sugar without soy sauce. The service was pretty meh, our cart lady was a bit aggressive and unfriendly but food came fast. When we went(Thursday afternoon) it wasn’t packed. I’m glad we didn’t have to wait because it’s pretty disappointing. The restaurant looks beat up and old, and the restrooms were a nightmare. We didn’t see any roaches — thank god! I’d be scared for my life! I’m used to seeing Chinese places run down, but the way most restaurants make up for it is with good food; this place does not have that. The price wasn’t too bad, I think for our meal we paid $ 15. I really hope this place is not the best Seattle’s got, because it is very lackluster. I don’t think we’ll be here again.

20 minute wait for lunch on Monday but it was lunar new year. The 20 minutes didn’t feel too bad. They do take reservations(which I would do the next time). The carts were crazy! Packed full, replenished quickly and tasty! everything was about $ 3-$ 5 for about 4pieces of dimsum, plates of honey walnut shrimp, shumai, dumplings, chow mein, dessert, etc. We basically had a cart parked near us the whole time(which seemed common the way the place was laid out). There was no language barrier. Boyfriend wanted lots of pork so they remembered and brought us lots of goodies. I don’t eat meat but can do some seafood — I had a TON of options! They were very understanding. $ 30 for a huge, filling lunch for 2.

I’m not from Seattle, so I was disappointed when there was no private parking lot. A divey place with great dim sum. Honestly, this place doesn’t even deserve a star. We came here after reading reviews and figured it seemed like a decent place for dim sum. We walked in, they asked how many and went to look for an open table and forgot about us. We should have known then to walk out. Finally seated and experienced the following: 1. 3 dirty tea cups 2. Asked for water… never received water for our table 3. Ordered soup for our table… never received soup for our table 4. Never got checked on I’m appalled that this establishment would be so unprofessional and still in business. I would never suggest going here!

Beware of cockroaches!!! I’ve been eating here for years, and usually it’s at 2am after a night of shenanigans– and the food is exactly as you’d expect Chinese food to taste, msg and all(without rave or disappointment). However, we went there last night, and right as we were finishing our meal a cockroach climbed onto the table!!! We smashed him(sorry little guy) and told the staff. He offered us 10% off, but eventually he offered to comp the meal. I asked him if cockroaches are a regular situation and he said, «honestly, we have to call pest control twice a month, the building is old, and the tenants upstairs are dirty. It’s a problem in all of the restaurants in china town, the Heath department knows about it». I’m sorry, but no. No. No. No. If they are crawling on our table, where else are they?! We left feeling sick.

The food is good but the service is meh. So we ordered peking duck, salt and peper squid, congee and fish and salt fried rice. Our server actually forgot our fried rice. and the food came in one at a time so it kinda sucks that we were eating the squid without the fried rice or congee. Usually in the morning they are superrr busy, so come at 9, any later than youd need to wait for a long time. Not unless youre willing to be seated with other people and share a table. Huh! And KEEP in mind in the morning its not first come first serve basis, it depends on what table are available, so if you are a party of 2. Youd wait for a long time. But yeah food is actually better than the other chinese place around chinatown.

I’ve been frequenting Ho Ho, and thought it was time for a change. I got my usual, salted fish/chicken fried rice, honey walnut prawns, and salt&pepper pork chops. I’m glad that I decided to try something new. With every spoonful of the fried rice, there was a piece of the salted fish. Which is awesome! And they use thicker pork chops. I guess my only issue is the customer service. I’ve been here more then once so I’m not basing this from one experience. I came during lunch, and the wait staff was transitioning to dinner and were really busy… So I went to the manager(I’m assuming– She stood behind the register doing nothing) and asked for some to-go boxes. She told me to «ask someone else.» Granted, it is the wait staffs responsibility, but they were honestly busy and that’s not good management in my book. What happened to team work! I got the sense that she was too good to get me to go boxes. I’ll still go, but I’ll stick to ordering to-go.

I give this a 5 star just based on the food quality alone. Just like any other restaurant in the international district, the service here is poor. It is ridiculously busy so you have to get in early, if you want to get in at all. But if you do, if you do choose to wait in line, do know that ITISSOWORTHIT. This was my 3rd visit at Jade Garden and it was the day after Christmas. Our goal was to get there at 9 am but it didn’t happen. We strolled in at 11 am and had to wait 30 mins in line. They will ask you what kind of tea you want to drink. I noticed they had my favorite Chrysanthemum. If you’ve never had this flowery tea before, try it. It tastes like liquid gold with honey undertones. Just straight tea that will melt your heart with realms of flower heaven. As for dimsum, we always have a few usual items. Har Gao, Shu Mai, Fried Taro Cake, Spare ribs, Chinese Broccoli, Sesame Ball, Cha Siew Bao(steamed BBQ Pork bun). The freshness of the ingredients will shock you. I have never had dimsum so fresh before. The meat in the Har Gao, the shrimp in the Shu Mai are so full of flavor. They come piping hot and you actually can sense that someone in the kitchen a few feet away is actually making these by hand. My boyfriend is a huge fan of the Fried Taro cake. it is a complex dish with a mushrooms and pork filling, with a layer of taro, with a layer of breading that looks like a birds nest which is then deep fried. I’ve had it at Harbor City before but here the flavors in each layer can be separated as you’re tasting it and they are all equally mindblowing. I can only attribute this to the crafting of each fried taro cake piece. They must have some amazing chefs in that kitchen! The spare ribs also have amazing flavor. The BBQ pork steamed bun is one of my faves and here it is also exceptionally good. The sesame ball is my favorite Chinese dessert and when I find a good one, I want everyone to try it. This place has AMAZING sesame balls. Soft when you bite in, chewy and then sweet red bean goodness. They can cut the balls open for you if you choose and might be smart considering they come really hot from the kitchen. This time we ordered some new things as well, flike the noodles(it was just ok, a 5 out of 10) and fried calamari. The fried calamari was so fresh and tender. It came covered in fried jalapeño and garlic bits so the flavors were amazing. The food in combination with the Chrysanthemum tea sips in between is nothing short of heaven on earth. All this, split between 3 people and the bill was $ 35. Not a bad deal at all if you ask me!

As many people before me have mentioned, Jade Garden probably has the best dim sum in Seattle. It gets extremely busy, but once you get seated, it’s all worth it. The food is consistently great, meaning you can’t go wrong with any item you order. I think I ordered 7 plates between myself and a friend, and our bill came out to be less than $ 30. It’s not the most refined or polished restaurant, but if you’re looking for a filling meal at an extremely reasonable cost, then I would highly recommend Jade Garden!

DONOTEATHERE! Went for dim sum yesterday and had a COCKROACHCRAWLINGACTOSSTHETABLE! After killing it with my napkin, I flagged down one of the staff who immediately whisked the napkin away and muttered«Sorry» and walked away. My party immediately got up to leave, stopping to pay at the cashier and tell them about the cockroach. The cashier billed our ticket and said«It’s an old building that’s why.» I used to come here all the time for good Chinese food on a late night. Over the years it’s gotten so dirty! Just look at the chairs and the carpet and you can tell that they don’t clean the place! I’m too scared to even think what’s in the kitchen! After this last experience, I would never come here again! Honestly very disappointed because they actually have good food. I’m just so appalled and concerned of the cleanliness of the restaurant.

I’ve been coming to Jade Garden for years, both for dim sum and family style Chinese dinner. It’s the best dim sum in the city and the outrageous line on the weekends is justified(although seriously, just come before 11 or during the week instead). They always seem to be understaffed(or just hyper-optimized!), but if you manage to flag someone down, they’re always friendly. Yes, the place is kind of divey and dirty, but no dirtier than your typical Chinatown establishment. For dim sum, I like their shrimp dumplings and shumai. They also serve dim sum dishes at all other times, but they’re more expensive outside of the regular dim sum hours. The dishes from their dinner menu are a bit more hit or miss, but I really like their deep fried stuffed tofu and the roast pork and cod filet hot pot special(although there always seems to be far more tofu and cod filet than roast pork). They have big tables that can nicely accommodate big groups and they’re never too busy for dinner. Bonus: they’re open late all week long, which makes it the perfect stop on the way back from the airport if you’re picking out-of-town guests from later flights.

I’m highly disappointed with Jade Garden after hearing that they have the best dim sum for the best prices. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s an establishment in good, old ghetto Chinatown so more than likely, I won’t be receiving stellar service or anything along those lines of «fine» dining. I just wanted my little hole in the wall yummy food that everybody keeps talking about when the subject of dim sum comes up. Sign, highly highly disappointed. First all of all, we are placed in a weird corner table because that was the only table left. Unfortunately, non of the rude ladies with the food cart wanted to come by because they would have to push it on this step to get to our lonely isolated island table. Much to say, we were obviously forgotten to a point that we would have to walk over ourselves and hunt for our own food. Everything was cold and mediocre, our thing that they stamp menu items on to keep track of how much food we ordered was in Chinese that none of us would read because we aren’t Chinese so it makes me wonder if they are actually stamping the actual correct items with the correct prices or are they throwing in extra stamps to charge more because we didn’t even ordered that much food for each person to be spending $ 15. I“m going to stick to going to Din Tai Fung where everybody complains at how expensive it is when realistically, it isn’t much cheaper at Jade Garden, at least I get good service and way higher quality food at Din Tai Fung. To each their own though, tell me how your experience here was if you’ve tried it or is going to after reading this review:)

This is an old school kind of restaurant. We got there around 1:30. The hostess asked if we wanted to share a table but we didn’t, so she put us at a table in the back. The first thing we took was the noodles because we were starving. And here is where it became very comical. The ladies would park their carts right in front of our table… LOL! Um, hellooooo… can’t you see we’re sitting here? Part of me wanted to grab something off the carts and see if we could get away with it. When someone did ask us if we wanted something, I asked for the shrimp and chive dumplings. These must have just came out of the steamer because the dough was really sticky and they all stuck to each other. We couldn’t help but laugh at this. We did notice that the women kept going over the the«Chinese mafia» table… LOL! The older gentlemen sure looked like it… LOL! We were able to flag one lady down to get us some cha siu bao. After that we were done. Again, they kept parking their carts in front of our table. I would never come back if in town again. After we left, there were some other places as we headed back toward the stadium that looked better.

Everyone reviews their dim sum which is solid, but I’ll mix it up and talk about their dinner; specifically about their family meals or «wo choy.» I hadn’t been here for dinner in years, but came recently for a birthday and had the $ 168 family meal. We had the tables and were seated in the back section so it was nice and spacious. The waiters were friendly and attentive, which is a rarity in Chinatown. The fish maw soup was good, though pretty standard. The appetizer plate was large and came with some fried bean curd skin shrimp rolls; and unexpected surprise for sure. Their hot sauce is also above average, it is the paste type with garlic as opposed to just chili flakes. The salt baked chicken had good skin, the fish filet with celery was also big, and the broccoli and seafood dish was 1.5x a typical one elsewhere. Everyone knows their dim sum is good, but their dinner menu is worth trying as well.

We ordered har gao(steamed shrimp balls), sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves, BBQ baked baos, spareribs, Chinese broccoli, Roast pork puff pastry, honey shrimp and walnuts, and egg rolls. All of the food was fresh and good quality Good variety of dishes The bill came to $ 51,00 plus tip, which came out to about 12.00 per person. Very reasonable for Dim Sum. On the eastside we usually pay 15.00 per person. Restaurant was very full, I made a reservation for 11AM and still had a 30 minute wait. Several large groups were there too. service was very good as well. the carts came by frequently. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for Dim Sum.

Coming back from Canada on our road trip this past July, we decided to eat here because it was opened late. It had over 900 reviews on Unilocal so I figure it must be good! The place was a typical Chinese restaurant. Not fancy at all. There were only a few people in the restaurant which was a plus and plus it was late. We ordered the deep fried calamari, fried rice. Pork chop, pork Shumai(dumplings) and house special noodles. The food didn’t take long to get to our table. The food was actually really good! The fried rice was excellent! I specially loved the shumai! The man who served us was friendly and efficient. As I walked out of the restaurant, I noticed a Zagat award, so apparently this place was awarded to have the best pork shumai/best dim sum in Seattle! Boy was I glad and happy to have tried the pork shumai! I don’t think it was the best, but it was one of the tastiest I have eaten! If ever in Seattle, eat here!

This was my last meal in Seattle before running off to the airport to fly home and it was great! Our group of 8 took an Über to the restaurant around 10am and were immediately seated by the host. Tea and water were brought promptly to our table. It took a little while before the dim sum carts came to our table but we made quick work at the selection and maybe had four carts visit us in total. There were a couple of things offered that I haven’t seen before but overall the selection was relatively limited; not the largest offering I’ve had for dim sum. The deep fried taro balls and pork shu mai were my favorites. Everything was pretty tasty and we were quickly full. The restaurant had a constant stream of people coming and going on a Wednesday morning. The bill was split 8 ways without any issues and the cashier thanked us multiple times for eating at the restaurant.

Food is excellent, price is great, but the service is just average. Meanwhile, it still is one of the best dim sum place in Seattle. I’ve heard the good reputation of this place for a long time. However the place was always occupied and the parking situation in China town is simply terrible. Finally last week I got a chance to try its dim sum. The place really lives to its reputation. The environment is just like any other dim sum places in China town. Loud crowd, narrow space, waiter never smiles. However the food is much better than other restaurants. Just a bite and you can tell the seafood is fresher, the seasoning is more balanced, and even the complimentary tea is the better quality. My most favorite one is the pan fried dumpling with shrimp and chive fillings. The shrimp is very fresh and largely portioned. The flavor of chive is brought out by the pan fry, but not over powering the shrimp. Two flavors combined nicely creating delicious scent and taste. Excellent execution. Another favorite is the pan fried radish cake. Soft tender texture, with the radish’s sweetness and sausage’s saltiness well mixed. Again, same dish like other Chinese restaurants but extraordinary delicious. The price is good too. We ordered 7 – 8 dishes for three adults and the bill was $ 37. This is a great deal. The only complain is the service kind of slow and only two carts running around, so the waiter is very busy. But compare with the superb food and cheap price, it’s not a big deal. No wonder the place is always packed with long waiting line.

Came here in the morning for dim sum, it was already pretty crowded at 945am. Waited for about a good 30 minutes before they called our names. If you stand outside while waiting your name to be called, you may want to periodically check inside on where you are at on the list. They will not come outside to call your name, only inside. But the inside is super packed, so good luck with that. I dont mind sharing tables with other people so we let the host/hostess know in hopes to get sat down faster. But that didn’t work. Steam cart style so that’s a plus! Food is pretty standard for dim sum, them chicken feets be pretty tasty though, shrimp balls, siu mai, rice in banana leaf, fried this & that were all pretty good. We over-ordered so we had plenty for dinner later. Service was, well you know… Overall, a pretty good dim sum spot!

Laut, voll, lecker! Eben original Chinesisch.
