Pretty solid Taiwan cooking. Facing East is way better — but thats in Bellevue. In the ID Henry’s makes a few nice Taiwan dishes. My favorite are there lunch boxes — fried chicken or the egg and shrimp one. Less than $ 10 and pretty tasty. There fried chicken is the best I have tried in town. The beef noodle soup is good, especially if you ask for hand-shaven noodles. The interior is sleek and casual at the same time. I enjoy coming here with friends who want a upper-scale experience. Some dishes I do not recommend– there wonton soup is one of them.

Went to this restaurant for the first time today with a friend from work. Had the Kung Pao chicken lunch special & the pork chops. The price was very reasonable and the portion size was good. We enjoyed our lunch so I’ll be going back to try more of their choices.

This is the first resturaunt that ive tried in downtown Seattle. I had the kung pao chicken lunch box and i can honestly say it is one of the best things ive eaten. Place is clean and the service was good.

Henry’s was the first restaurant that I ate at when I moved to Seattle last August and naturally, I grew an attachment. Though run by Cantonese from Hong Kong, they make really authentic Stinky Tofu and some other Taiwanese signature dishes(I live in Taiwan half my life). However, I begin to notice that they started cutting back on portions and were essentially«watering down» a couple of dishes so I stopped eating there. Today, I decided to give it another try because my girlfriend wanted to try some Taiwanese food. I ordered a plate of Stinky Tofu, Chitterling Potage and Squid Potage. The Stinky Tofu only came with 7 pieces as opposed to the 10 they used to serve, and they were a bit soggy rather than crispy, and the Chitterling Potage was okay, not awful but definitely watered down with only four pieces of chitterling. But this was all okay because the Squid Potage was the worst. If you do a quick google of a squid potage, you’ll see that they’re usually packed with all kinds of goodies. What I got was a big bowl of goop with a few shreds of radish and carrots. I fished around for squid and found 2 peanut m&m sized curls, which seem like they came from a frozen packet you buy from Uwajimaya. I was so frustrated that I called the server over and asked him why there’s nothing in my $ 6 dollar soup, he became really defensive and told me that this is how it’s supposed to be made and if I search harder, there should be 2 more pieces. Really? I mean in my past 15 years of squid potage experience, I’ve never seen a squid potage that consisted in just a bowl of goop. Maybe he meant that it was supposed to be a game, like I was supposed to fish for squid. This is what happens to many Asian restaurants. They start out fantastically, great food, great portions, winning new customers. But then slowly they decide that they could make more money by cutting back on their resources, serving half the food for the same price. And then at one point, you realize they are making you pay for a big bowl of water. I don’t like leaving bad reviews because it hurts the restaurants(they’re just trying to make a living), but if the restaurant is out to trick people of their hard earned cash(we’re just trying to get a decent meal), they shouldn’t be able to get away with it. PS: There’s a Henry’s(the original) in University District. They’re run by actual Taiwanese, are very polite, and food is delicious. They too, hate their branch and have cut off relations with the International District store.

I’ve been here so many times for take out and dine-in. Not sure why on my most recent trip the beef noodle soup just tasted that much better. I actually ordered through the Unilocal app(same order) two weekends in a row. That’s how good it is!

I love this place and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review here yet. I first discover Henry’s Taiwan kitchen but then I discovered this place and now I come here all the time because it is closer to me. My favorites dish is the crispy tofu! It’s so good and I haven’t had it like that anywhere else before. The bean curd and meat, the salt and pepper pork chops and the veggies are always great too. This is my go to Taiwanese place and I recommend it to anyone that loves Taiwanese food!

Let me preface this by saying I have very high expectations of Taiwanese food. Grew up in the Bay Area, parents are from Taiwan, lived in Irvine for a bit. The only decent Taiwanese food I’ve tried in the Seattle area is Facing East, but they have limited menu. HardWok has really good shaved ice, but I haven’t tried much of their food menu yet. Anyway, go try one of those two places, but don’t come here. This place has the honor of serving the second-worst green onion pancakes I’ve ever tried. Not crispy at all, with a texture that can only be described as «sad.» Had no flavor.(First place goes to the place that served me, I kid you not, tortillas. Literally, flour tortillas.) The chili oil wontons were 95% skin and a tiny little speck of filling. The flavor of the sauce was lacking too. Chitterlings were boiled to a soft mushy pile of bleh, but the garlic sauce was good. Pan-fried jumbo dumplings were okay. Should come with a spoon because it was already falling apart when they served it to me. I think I wanted the beef bing, but one of the photos on Unilocal was mislabeled and I got confused. Oh well. Judging from the rest of the food I tried, I wouldn’t have liked it anyway.

Food: 4 stars Price: 4 stars Service: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars Overall: 3.5 Food: My husband and I ordered two lunch boxes, #1 and #2. Both contain rice, taiwanese kimchi(similar to the korean one but less taste with more sweetness), marinated egg, 2 pieces of bak choy(veggie), fried shrimp x 2, and the main entrée. Mine was pork chop, and there were 2 gigantic pieces. Even though there were bones in there, I still couldn’t finish. The proportion for the black pepper chicken is normal, but my husband didn’t finish it either. Even though everything tastes ok and my husband likes it, I didn’t like how everything is FRIED. I got kinda sick afterwards cuz it was just too much fried food for me at once. It’s just like how some people get sick after eating too much veggie, same kind of thing(?). Price: The price is good. It’s like $ 9 before tax/tip per lunch box. Service: There was only one guy in the restaurant, and he was nice enough to say that he could pack my lunchbox if I want him to. I just asked for a plastic bag since I don’t think I am disabled enough to ask someone to put the lunchbox lid on: p. I think he came to ask how’s the food when we were eating as well. Ambiance: They played some really old Chinese music in my parents’ generation. I’m not a fan of that: p. The restaurant was quite empty around noon on a weekday. Overall: It’s alright, but I didn’t like how the lunchbox was already in a to-go container. It was really weird, and the fact that we were the only customers there at that time did not actually help: p. BUT I was really happy that Henry(the owner) didn’t come out since he BS too much back then.

I like the Chinese kimchi here, or should I call it Chinese pickles. I tried cod combo rice and lamb combo rice. Both r great. But d fish entrée is kind of weird. They just pour some chili bean sauce on the fish fillet. And I wanna try the noodle, it gimme some expectation so I will give it 3 stars

Taiwanese street food is basically my top guilty pleasure — simple but immensely satisfying. Despite great expectations, San bei ji(three cup chicken) was underwhelming — way too sugared(would make Shanghainese dishes taste under-sugared in comparison), and also really small chicken bony bits. San bei ji should be bone-in, but not scrap pieces. Veggie dao xiao mien(pan-fried knife-shaven noodle) was good — noodles were excellent texture and savory. Guo-tie(potstickers) were rather bland, nothing to write home about. Lots of promising street eats on the menu — might come back to try the crispy basil chicken(popcorn chicken), fan tuan(sticky rice roll), nu ro juan bing(beef bing), oyster pancake or beef noodle soup, but one could always just get these at HardWok.

Ordered pork chop bento box. The pork chop was not good, breading and pork both tasted terrible. Will not be back again.

It makes me kinda sad the reviews are bad here as I actually like the foods I tried! 1) fried tofu and basil chicken(popcorn chicken) were flavorful. If it could be more crunchy, would be better! 2) Taiwanese stir fry(fat noodles) — i loooveee noodles! 3) Beef noodle soup — pretty good, the noodles are thick and slide everywhere though. 4) Hot and sour soup — acceptable. I would still come by when I’m looking for taiwanese food. I like it better than Hard Wok for sure.

My friend really wanted to get Taiwanese food and she said the one in Bellevue was good, so we decided to try this one in Chinatown. Service was ok, the waiter was friendly but didn’t pay attention to our table. We didn’t get any water either. However the food is decent, I got the tofu lunchbox and it was pretty good. The tofu was fried perfectly and the insides were still soft and silky. Delicious! It did take a while for the food to come(only one other table ahead of us) so make sure you have time when you come eat here.

This is such a great hole in the wall restaurant. There food is delicious and served in a very cute metal lunch box. When you come here please try the Taiwanese lunchbox. It comes with beef rice, pickled veggies, a slice of pork, and a flavorful brown egg that taste like it 5 spice powder.

Great place to go for lunch in the ID, especially if you are with Hungry Co-workers. If you are in a Hurry they have great Lunch boxes with a nice Variety of things to nibble on. I love the Won-Tons with homemade sauce, mostly for the delicious Sauce.

Food is okay. Décor is very nice. This place is right next door to the hostel. They share a wall it’s so close. So if you’re tired from a day of traveling, this is As very easy place to grab a bite.

That’s the worst«sticky rice roll» that I had. The proper sticky rice roll should be a bit«al dente,» full with rice aroma, and flavorful with the fillings that are crunchy with and meat flavor and a bit sweet. Theirs was soggy! That’s the cardinal sin to rice roll. Then the rice were not flavored and filling not permeated properly to make the taste unbalanced. One moment you are eating wet starch, the next you have a mouthful of sweet meat shreds. They used to be quite good and this can be a fluke. But I am not trying again. To be fair, their beef noodles was excellent. This rating is for the rice roll only.

Taiwanese food is going to be the next big thing. You heard it right here. Jam packed with all of America’s favorite flavors there are occasionally some textural issues but nothing a discerning palate can’t get past. The«Popcorn» Chicken(Crispy Basil Chicken) here is great but I really come here for the Fan Tuan or Sticky Rice Roll. Its sticky rice wrapped around Pork, Egg, Pickled Veggies, and Chinese Donut. It’s an amazing snack or grab two for a full meal. The décor here is sparse and there can be a tough language barrier. So don’t try to order over the phone. Still it’s well worth the effort to dine here.

There used to be two locations on the same street, but now it’s just Henry’s Taiwan Plus. Two of them were a bit excessive anyway, and they basically had the same menu, except for the railroad lunch box. That, I do miss. Similar, y I’ve had the lunch specials several times and it really comes with a lot of food. There are different options like the fried pork chop, shrimp and egg, tofu, etc and it comes with hot and sour soup. I really like their stinky tofu here, it’s probably the best I’ve had in Seattle. Their pickled cabbage is done right also.

I came here with my wife and a friend, and we had a pleasant experience, but the food was just ok. I ordered their hand-cut noodles with beef, and while the hand-cut noodles were nice and chewy, I thought it could have come with more meat, and I wasn’t a big fan of the partly-cooked bean sprouts that half covered the dish. My wife ordered an oyster pancake and sticky rice roll. I am a fan of their sticky rice roll — I think they do a pretty good job with them. The oyster pancake was pretty good as well, especially considering it’s not easy to find a place that will make oyster pancakes. Our friend ordered the beef noodle soup. I felt like the soup tasted a little off — it seemed just a little more sour than I would expect. The layout is really nice, even though it’s a smaller space. The service was standard, and the pricing isn’t terrible.
