My favorite Coffee place in the whole world! I am so sad they closed I used to visit here daily for my coffee, iced americano with room for crème, I am beyond destroyed that they are no longer in the neighborhood and do hope they are able to come back! Miss you Bauhaus!

A good coffee reviews and a bookstore theme made me step in for a morning coffee and I don’t regret doing so! Stuff is very friendly and didn’t seam too slow or too cool for me ;) You can see the WiFi password just by the cashiers, but for me it seamed to be going on and off all the time, which was a bit annoying considering I had to do some research. Still I came there for a coffee not Internet! and that was brilliant! Americano… wow! Smooth and tasty, without any bitter taste, no milk/sugar needed(which sometimes I have to add in other places not being able to bare strong bitter taste). Shame they don’t have any modern books available that you could actually read, but the theme itself is very cool! Lots of information regarding local events(information board), chilled not disturbing music in the background — perfect for a catch up, a bit of work(if Internet working), people watching or a bit of reading(get ur own book ;)) … and they will let u in with your dog too! Big plus from me!

Great coffee, but more importantly, they are open until midnight on weekdays. I live in West Seattle, but I often come up here for a place to study/work late at night. The staff are always friendly, and there is a great deal of seating, especially on the upper level. It’s quiet and a good atmosphere for studying. Recommend!

Great space that is in Cap Hill that feels like another needed Seattle institution. Indoor/outdoor seating, you can grab a place that’s quiet or a lil more lively — something here for everyone.

Ok coffee, good service, great location, brilliant environment. Bauhaus, is my go to for meeting up with friends morning or night, the staff always greet you with a smile and promptly get your coffee/tea going, and patio seating that reminds me of New Orleans or indoor seating with books never gets old. I look forward to coming here more often.

Went in for the first time last Monday, September 14, 2015. So, uhh, I’ve been back the last two days and multiple times each day(I work next door). I just found a new favored coffee shop! EDIT: They closed their doors, effective today, December 9, 2015.

I travel to Seattle to visit my friend and always enjoyed a stop at Bauhaus. But not the last two visits. Since moving to their temporary location the service and quality have gone down hill. From the surly woman taking the orders to the poor quality of my lattes. I thought I had just an off visit so I tried it again, still poor. My vanilla latte was practically room temp and really had just a hint of vanilla, in fact I had to add sweetener to it. Oh, I almost forgot, the most annoying music, I couldn’t wait to get out. I will be going over to Pike to Victrola from now on, great service delicious latte, hot, and fresh roasted beans! I highly recommend!

The front sign declares that«strong coffee» awaits inside. They are being completely serious. Keep this in mind while ordering. Perhaps order a single espresso instead of a double. Or prepare to suffer the consequences. ;) Pros: + THESPACE is beautiful. Books, books, and books. + Two stories = lots of seating + Wifi is password protected BUT they have a clear sign at the cash register that displays the password, so you don’t have to ask. I hate asking. + I would imagine the strong espresso makes for an excellent latte + Espresso is tasty but mega strong. It took me several hours to finish it because I thought I might die. And I drink a lot of espresso. :) + Vegan snacks available + Conveniently located off the 10, 11, and 49 buses + Some reviews mentioned slow service, but my espresso was made quickly + Good vibes and great music; very productive work environment + Outdoor seating on sidewalk and on upper-level patio space. I wish I could have taken advantage of it, but it was about 90 degrees and I preferred to stay indoors. Cons: — No complementary sparkling water with espresso :( — Baristas acted a little aloof toward me…“too cool” to be there. Other reviews claim otherwise, so my experiences may not represent the norm.

Good drinks, comfy and plentiful seating, free wifi, and options for baked goods right on Pine?! Yay! Service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere is conducive to getting work done or having a chat with a friend. Definitely a place you should check out if you need a quick caffine fix or a long extended seat to get some work done.

Great coffee, nice baristas, and super pleasant(pretty quiet) work environment unless someone decides to be a dick and have a loud conversation. They sell snacks and booze, too! PROTIP: get a pre-paid punch card – it makes the checkout process fast and easy and you get a few coffees for free too! Don’t forget to tip every visit though.

I may have found my favorite latte here. Why here? I came to Capitol Hill with my friend to catch up during a quick excursion to Seattle. I ordered a small latte, while he got a large mocha. I debated between several other places around the area before finally settling for the one that was closest. Service and Space It feels like a small bookstore once you step into the seating area, since there are bookshelves lined with texts everywhere. This theme continues upstairs, and leads to a balcony that’s great to sit at during the nighttime and people-watch. There’s also a good number of people who bring their work in here, as well, and the WiFi didn’t seem slow. The baristas were a bit slow on making the drinks, but still very friendly. In fact, my friend asked for more milk in his mocha after downing ¾ of it(more on that later), and she gladly filled it to the brim! You can essentially personalize your drink any way you want, and somehow the barista won’t get angry, which astounds and impresses me. Drinks There are a good number of options on the menu, so you don’t have to feel limited to your standard cold brew or latte. Speaking of which, my soy latte was outstanding: the coffee blended perfectly with the milk, and it was just the right amount of sweetness. The same went for my friend’s mocha. Typically, the chocolate just ends up overpowering the entire drink, but this one had the right balance between a coffee drink and a nice hot chocolate milk. I’m pretty sure there were points we had to stop talking to each other to just drink our coffee. Given the opportunity to do so, I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Can’t believe this was my first visit here. Came in on a sunny day to send out a few emails and ended up staying for hours! This sweet little spot feels so cap hilly if that makes any sense. Bought my chai and the baristas were so sweet and were more than accommodating when I asked them to change it after it was made :) went upstairs out on the balcony and everything was perfect! If it’s sunny, and you want coffee, make yourself at home upstairs out in the sun! Love this place! Will definitely be back soon!

This was a wonderful coffee place. I spent a long time just chatting to the baristas as they were so much fun to hang out with. They even whipped up some original caffeinated concoctions for me to try!

Bauhaus has always been one of my favorite coffee shops. I used to go to their old location all the time but not so much when then moved. However the coffee is still great, their mocha is to die for! And the hot chocolate is my comfort drink. Don’t forget to add whip cream(it is SO good). Customer service is also superb!

I was on the Bolt Bus going back to Vancouver and we only had 15 minutes. They were able to make a turkey pesto sandwich with crisp vegetables in less than five minutes, without any complaints. Now that’s speed and service. And an awesome sandwich.

I’ve been a Bauhaus fan for years. I’m not a sit-in-a-café kind of person, so I really don’t care if the wi-fi works or not. I grab an iced soy mocha on my way to work every weekday. This is my super totes awesome favorite place for coffee! Everyone is cute and friendly(very important when making coffee). I knew the old Bauhaus crew, but things change and all you have to do is get to know the new peeps too, just like you did when you first started coming here years ago. Everyone remembers my drink and my morning trip to Bauhuas always helps to get me in a good mood before going to work. Also, after reading some of the other reviews, I’m not entirely sure why everyone is suddenly up in arms over the Hershey’s syrup in the mochas; they’ve been using that for YEARS. To me, that’s the best thing in a mocha and other cafes try to be «fancy» and their coffee drinks end up bitter and overdone. I’ll stick with Hershey’s, thanks. So anyway… go to Bauhaus… drink coffee… feel better.

I feel like the new Bauhaus has a little more space and to sit and do work. The feel is still similar to that of a library, which can be conducive to productivity. Plus, it has a little outdoor balcony, which is pretty neat. Quality of coffee-wise, it’s middle-of-the-road, in my opinion. In the immediate area, I’d give a slight nod to Victrola or Stumptown over Bauhaus coffee.

Wanna go to a coffee shop but pretend that you’re in a library so you’ll continue to have some semblance of motivation to finish that work you brought? Bauhaus fills this void in your life. Their walls are lined with shelf after shelf of books and you are surrounded by other people deep in staring contests with their laptops. However, the coffee is nothing great. If quality is what you’re after, save yourself the disappointment a walk a few blocks over to Stumptown. But if it’s ambience(or space – there are way more tables here than at most other coffee shops on Capitol Hill) that you want, then Bauhaus has you covered.

Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup in a mocha is not my idea of a good mocha. Also, while expecting the previously reported«library-esque» cozy feel, going there at night felt unnerving and I can’t be sure if it was the zombie-like baristas, the weird, eerie blue-tinged lighting upon walking in, or the ridiculously creepy artwork hanging up everywhere, it didn’t by any means make me want to stay and kick back with a book. Also the guy rolling cigarettes and cleaning out his rat’s house while the said rat walked around the tables wasn’t so inviting.

Imagine square tables with chalkboard surfaces, filtered sunlight that catches dust bits every so often in its rays, and walls of well-worn, hard bound books. Now picture yourself flipping through the leaves of one of those novels with a freshly brewed latte in hand. You’ve found yourself at Bauhaus. At Bauhaus Books & Coffee, you get the full scholarly experience in an unpretentiously comfortable, library-like environment. Unlike a real library, you can talk freely and enjoy food and beverages. But be mindful of your volume in a space people use to study! The space itself has two floors with seating on both levels. There is a deck up top for people watching or catching some rays after your nose has been buried in the books for a few hours. As far as the beverages go, my iced chai was quite delicious, especially after the addition of some more cinnamon and cardamom(self-serve at the counter). One unique addition to my chai — I was asked which type of milk I’d like. How cool! Way to serve the lactose intolerant and specialty drinkers. My boyfriend’s macchiato was appropriately strong and revitalizing. My ginger snap cookie went oh-so-well with the iced chai on that hot summery Seattle day. Service was cordial and without frills, Seattle style. I like that. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll stop by Bauhaus.

4 stars for the coffee and pastries 4 stars for the ambiance 3 stars for the price 2 stars for the flakey internet. I really miss the old location! The new location isn’t anywhere as cool as the old place but the coffee tastes the same, so I won’t cry over spilled milk. The internet is really flakey which is a major bummer so if you’re looking for a nice place to work using Wi-Fi, I personally wouldn’t come here. If you are going to attempt to use their Wi-Fi, make sure you get the password from the barista when you buy your drink. I came here during the day on a Tuesday and the place was packed. The downstairs seating area isn’t where I would personally choose to work because it can get loud with all the customers coming in and out. I headed straight upstairs and found a nice two person table right next to the window. They are always playing music somewhat loudly so it’s a good idea to bring your own headphones if you’re trying to tune out. One of their employees was on the phone with Comcast people trying to salvage the internet. I was able to get some Wi-Fi but I had to constantly sign back in or restart my Mac to connect to their internet which was somewhat annoying. The upstairs area also has a small balcony area if you need some fresh air. Their pastries are all delicious, especially the savory ones. My favorite is their brioche bun with the spinach parmesan filling. The barista will warm it up for you. I always get a bottle of Mexican Coke(from the self serve refrigerator at the bottom) to help me get through my work. The bun and Coke comes out to be about $ 6 which I find somewhat pricey. The espresso drinks are constantly delicious. The eccentric crowd that hangs out here always make my visit a more pleasurable experience. If you’re on a date, please don’t come upstairs to talk loudly. Sit downstairs. Most of the seating area is upstairs and that’s where 85% of the people come to just work and revel in their coffee, not to listen to some lame conversation.
