Had two private lessons with Daniel, he was generous with his time and knowledge and we got right to it which I appreciated. I met Carey after and they helped me rent gear, and answered all the surf questions I had. Would book again!

I took a lesson with Cary a few weeks ago as a beginner to surfing. Although I was a little nervous– there was no reason to be. Cary provided excellent instruction and had me standing up soon after we started! He was knowledgeable, thoughtful and truly concerned about making sure I was safe throughout the lesson. Would totally recommend Learn2rip if you’re thinking of taking a lesson!

My lesson with Billy was amazing. The technique he taught me worked great and I got up on my first time. I definitely recommend to take a lesson with these guys. Make sure to call and see what the waves are like before you got out because for some of my lesson the waves were a little bit dangerous, but Billy handled it awesome.

Cary was great, I hadn’t surfed in 6 years and he brought me right back. I thought the best part was his thorough explanation of the process so that I could continue to improve after the lesson.

My niece was in from NC so we decided to take a surf lesson. We Billy as our instructor and he totally rocked. He made surfing so easy. We had a land lesson first to go over the basics and then headed into the water. With in the first couple of waves we were surfing. I totally recommend learn to rip and having Billy as your teacher. Thanks Billy.

Taking a lesson from Cary is the ultimate way to get you safely and confidently into the surfing world. I had actually had taken a lesson in Honolulu eight years before, but there I wasn’t given the information needed to have a good foundation, so I unsuccessfully went surfing a couple times after and quit. My inspiration was rekindled when I moved to southern California.
Cary first gives an on-​land lesson that is succinct, super fun, and extremely informative (Cary is very articulate and aware of various learning styles, he is a trained teacher) about how to stay safe (how not to get hit by your board), how to physically place yourself on the board, how to paddle, and how to pop-​up (stand on the board from a lying position). With these he explains clearly and detailedly about what can go wrong. The instructors I had in Hawai’i didn’t take even a fraction of the time Cary took to thoroughly explain the important steps of even what to do to get your board out past the break!
The second section of the lesson is on the water and the best part is Cary doesn’t stop until you stop. Now with the on-​land skills you mastered, you get to apply it over and over in the water until you get up on your own wave. First he shows you how it feels to be unbalanced on the board so you get to know the sweet spot of how to place your body to be stable. Then with the same idea, he pushes you into a wave and lets you feel how the wave carries you with no effort on your part (keeping your head up high is THE KEY to not pearling: being thrown head first off your board). Cary will do this until he concludes that you look stable, then finally he will yell «STAND UP!!» And then you’re surfing.
Though I’d been on a board before technically, I had never caught a wave by myself nor did I have the motivation to go back out by myself. After my first lesson 8 years ago, I felt the instructors were more like a crutch than someone who wanted to provide me the tools to go back out by myself and continue to improve. After the lesson with Cary (during which I was able to catch my own wave and stand up), my partner and I spent 2 days surfing at two other beaches (Newport and Doheny) and successful caught many waves by ourselves: popped up and glided all the way to the sand. Now we’ve made the decision to move to be within 20 minutes from a beach so we can have this be a real component of our lives (great for your health in so many wonderful, strength-​building, stress-​releasing ways). So in the end, you could say Cary literally changed our lives!

I had a blast w my friends! Carey is super informative and helpful. He guided us through every step of the fundamentals. And he brought my dream of finally surfing to reality. I can’t wait to get out again w him!

I brought my kids to take surf lessons. They are only almost 4 and 5, so I was a little concerned, but the instructors were great with them. The only problem was that it was cold and the kids couldn’t hang for very long, not really their fault, although better wet suits would have helped. I was really impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm of the instructors. I forget the guys name, but we had a really nice teacher, who went over everything with the kids before they got in the water. They learned a lot and had a really cool experience. I definitely recommend these guys for adults and kids.

So I’ve been trying to learn how to surf for a while now and by a chance of luck, I found Cary’s info through the interweb. He’s very detailed and thorough before you first jump in the water (which is awesome for someone who’s never been on board). I was able to stand up on my second wave (I didn’t even try on the first one). So yeah, I highly recommend learning how to surf with Cary. He also teaches at Seal Beach, which has amazing waves for beginners. I will definitely be back for round two once I feel I practiced enough from the first lesson.
