I went here because I had a groupon for it. I didn’t mind it one bit. They were not gf friendly(I asked for gf soy sauce and they had no idea what I was talking about.). So, I had just salmon rolls. I thought that they were good! We were the only people, there on a Saturday at 6 though, which made me question things. I would go back if I had another groupon though.

I am so glad I got a groupon for this restaurant because sorry to say it was not worth full price. However there were some postie points: 1. Overall the food was pretty decent, I ordered with my date a sushi roll and scallops. The scallops were warm with fresh melted cheese on them with a light horseradish flare to it– yummy! 2. The service was very kind and the manager even helped my date sit in her chair which was very civil and unheard of today! 3. I freaking loved the Ume ice cream, it’s a purple ice cream I have no idea what fruit it comes from but it tasted out of this world, on par with one of the best ice cream I’ve ever had, and it was served with fried plantains, which were not as sweet but still good(friend bananas probably would be a better choice) Now for the bad parts 1. The freaking Hola Hala or whatever that Sh** is called like oh my God! I don’t know who ever came up with the idea of adding clear jello cubes and jelloish strings to ice cream but they need to be imprisoned! And I am not a picky eater I will practically eat anything that’s put in front of me but I couldn’t finish it! It had like still crunchy peaces of ice and the textures were just too much. 2. The décor is terrible, really bland white walls and the tables were too tiny. 3. Why in the world is the groupon two dollars more expensive on weekends? I mean I went on a Friday night and they were hardly anyone there! Overall although this is definitely not my worst experience with a restaurant I will not becoming back.

There was a big need for a Filipino restaurant in the Northwest suburbs. This fits the bill. Garlic rice, crispy pata, egg rolls were terrific. This all reminded me of food cooked by my mom or all my other Filipino relatives in my life time. The HaloHalo was the best. Flan, Ube Ice Cream, condensed milk, jack fruit, red beans, come on… YES! I hope this place survives in the ultra competitive Northwest Suburban market. I think it has legs. Service was also friendly and efficient.

I gave it a three, wife a 2, she wins. Boston roll came out with no avo as described on the menu. Miso soup and hot sake came out Luke warm, had to send back. Wife couldn’t finish her rolls, said tuna wasn’t fresh, and we never pass up on sushi! Kinda hard to make bad sushi but this place did it this night. Service was good, yet owner walked around looking like bum(sweatpants and hoodie) asking people for their order at the bar.

Japanese… Filipino…yumminess :) now for those that know me, I’m not a big Filipino food fan, for the sheer fact that I come from an immigrant Filipino family where non-rice meals were sac-religious. However, 40tude does bring me back to my childhood with home-cooked meals in a restaurant :) Their lugow(rice soup) is so garlicy, it’s insane! We also tried their langonisa as an appetizer, which was delish. For my meal I had the crispy pata… which is crispy lichon(roasted pork) cut up and crisped in a pan. The portion was HUGE… more than enough for me to eat as much as I wanted and had a full dinner meal to take home! Overall, great place for traditional Filipino food :)

The lugaw was not what I expected. needs some improvement on the taste and consistency of the porridge. The tosilog was good although I didn’t really taste the Tocino flavor. the pork was burnt on the side. The pad Thai had a boastful of flavor which I love. Overall, it’s a nice hangout place and when your super hungry the taste won’t matter.:-)

Service– we were sat down and given menus etc. We ordered drinks and food and then we waited for about 20mins to get our first drink. Well, to think positively, it is better than to wait for 20mins to get the table. Now come to food. We ordered a sushi roll, cornbeef silog and an Asian style noodle. Sushi was fresh enough, and taste well, really we did not expect that at all so we were very happy! The noodle was great too. Now the silog was a problem. It tasted like«re heat», the garlic rice itself is absolutely a re-heat. It was dry and dry and it has got nothing taste like garlic, so that’s a failure. Cornbeef it actually was quite delicious. But the rice ruined it so I hope they can improve on their rice. I saw some bad review about their rice as well. Or they may just remove silog from their menu. Drink was watery. But not so bad, I liked the coconut martini. One thing the owner was extremely friendly and she talks like some great sales reps I had met in life. She came over to our table to say hello, introduced the background of this restaurant and also showed us the private party room(with karaōke) where we can hold parties, if we wish. Overall this is a great hang out place. Nice food. Friendly staff. I wanted to give it four stars however the garlic rice was a minus. I will come back visit again hopefully it makes it to four or five stars

$ 12.99 Sushi Special? I’m down. I live right around the corner from 40tude, and have driven by it countless times. So I finally decided to go to see what’s what. I ordered the Sushi Special, which is available Tues-Fri from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It comes with miso soup, a choice of salad, two rolls, and three nigiri. I ordered the Wonton Chicken Salad, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Philadelphia Roll, and Tuna, Salmon, and Shrimp nigiri. The miso soup has plenty of seaweed and tofu, which is awesome. The shrimp tempura roll was okay. The Philadelphia roll was decent. The nigiri were very good and fresh. If you don’t like wasabi(which I don’t), make sure to ask them not to put it under the fish. I got a nasty wasabi surprise after eating the tuna. I decided to order Halo Halo for dessert, which I have always wanted to try. My server brought over this huge glass of crushed ice, fruit, and ice cream. She noticed that I was eating it piece by piece, and suggested that I mix it all together, «So you can’t pick anything out.» So I learned a new eating custom. :-) And it was very tasty. I’d definitely order it again. The service was very friendly and helpful. My server couldn’t have been sweeter. The manager made me feel welcome from beginning to end. I look forward to coming back!

When you first walk in, you will realize this is not your typical sushi bar. It’s more modern, looks more like a bar than a sushi place. Besides their… weird music selection, I was impressed! I’m not sure what the bar scene is like here later on, but the restaurant was nice. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. On weeknights, they have an amazing $ 12.99 deal where you get soup and a half salad, 2 sushi rolls, and 3 nigiri. You don’t leave hungry! So much food for so little money! We each got a drink as well that was very tasty, and Unilocal had a check-in deal for a free appetizer(chef’s choice) that we used as well. Everything tasted great, was fresh, and was served quickly. I was impressed! They have a fruit roll as well(I don’t think I’ve seen that anywhere else), and that was good! Definitely worth trying.

I heard about 40tude while browsing Unilocal one night. It was getting pretty late on a Friday night and my sister and I(plus our significant others) were craving some sushi. We browsed through the late night menu online and decided it was worth a shot. We were the only people dining, to our surprise, but there was a large group of people taking shots at the bar; creating a loud environment. The dining room was really dark… at times too dark to even see what was in front of us. It was surprising to see the variety of their late night menu; ranging from appetizers to breakfast, to short ribs to sushi. We started with ordering the gummy worm martini and the lychee martini. Both were very tasty. We ordered the truffled parmesan fries for an appetizer and they were very crisp, but did seem as if they were from a bag. For sushi we ordered the Surf & Turf and the California King. We all agreed that the Surf & Turf was by far one of the best sushi rolls we’ve ever had. 9oz of kobe beef and Maine lobster? Can’t go wrong! The California King was really good but not as memorable as the Surf & Turf. The owners/managers really tried hard to please us and make sure everything was good. They were really hospitable and truly did appreciate our business. 40tude is a little higher priced than most of the sushi places in the area, but they do offer something different and are open later than most of the places.

«Craving for tapsilog» — Nice place, good people, good calamari… but the Tapsilog? It doesn’t even deserve to be called one! The beef tapa is just a slab of meat that is fried and lightly seasoned very bland and boring looking. Tapa is supposed to be cooked dark brown to almost black and marinated to taste like beef jerky somewhat & texture. The«garlic rice» — a disaster! I wish they would even spend the time to actually cook it in oil and garlic. Not just bowl shape steam rice and sprinkle imitation garlic flakes on the top doesn’t even have any garlic flavor. I really like the place and ambiance but I think it needs to keep our culinary tradition way of cooking in check. Good luck to you guys! There is still room for improvement.

Filipino breakfast?! I’m game! Available during breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can always get your Filipino fixings. My hairdresser shared this new location when I asked her to suggest somewhere close I can pickup after my late night hair appointment. She said if I liked Uncle Mike’s, I would love this place. After a quick lookup and saw Candice has already graced their presence, I called in my order and set to find the new place. I couldn’t wait to try this longisilog. Back home, in my 20 speed drive, I opened the styrofoam to 4 very plump longanisa, which are like sweet chorizos; 2 sunny side up eggs; and some rice. The rice wasn’t garlicky enough for my taste. In fact, what is supposed to be garlic fried rice, was more the description of plain white rice with pieces of fried garlic garnished on top. I’d be lying if I said I was pleased with that. The lugau that accompanied the meal was very well flavored and homey. Chalk full or chicken, onions and tripe and a a very rich base, this is what’s made to fight the winter cold. I keep hearing the other Filipino dishes are good, so I would come back to try those as well as the sushi.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice and I must tell you, the service is great. The first time I dined at 40Tude, I ordered the Bangsilog which was amazing considering the garlic fried rice had a good twist to it. However, the second time I visited, I noticed they downgraded the garlic fried rice in size and it was missing the garlic kick. Also, the soup that was to be provided with the meal, came after the main dish and I was done with my main entrée before the soup arrived. Isn’t soup supposed to come before? Wait time for food to be served was long. You really don’t want your customers to wait for such a simple dish. We had a group of people with us and many stated that the pad thai was dry, missing flavor and looked like pancit canton. Also the palabok had no flavor whatsoever. Hopefully the chef can attend to this issue. I like the idea of a live band, but the day we were in the restaurant, the band sounded like they needed more practice. I’ll def come back and try out their other dishes.

Uhh. hmm. Well, their Filipino stuff was okay. I like how they serve Filipino breakfast all day. That’s pretty cool. I had a couple things there because I was with a group of friends to try it out so there was a wide range of things we tasted here. We came here on a Sunday evening and it was pretty empty but there were a few big families there eating which makes you kind of wonder if this was meant to be a family restaurant or a bar like it’s name says it’s supposed to be. Anyway, the service was VERY nice. With VERY nice service the food came VERY slow. We waited 45 minutes(we counted!) until we received our food. So, let’s start with the Filipino stuff. The Filipino breakfast isn’t exactly what I was expecting. They kind of changed it up a little bit. The rice was good. The taste wasn’t screaming«Filipino» but it was still good. The palabok was dry. I don’t know if that’s just a preference thing but I like my palabok saucy. I’m glad I tried it but not something I’d come back for. I’m surprised no one ordered their«sweet-dog» spaghetti but I guess I’ll have to come back and try it out. I ordered the lobster bisque, truffle Parmesan french fries, and crispy salmon skin sushi roll. The lobster bisque was actually quite salty. It almost seemed like it wasn’t made from scratch(can’t determine for sure) but it didn’t wow me. The truffle french fries were just regular french fries covered in Parmesan cheese and truffle oil. That was probably the best thing we had on the menu. Now, the sushi. I’m not too sure if it was just a bad day. Considering we waited so long for our food we thought more love was going into our food, but it didn’t. The rice on all of our sushi was very mushy. It didn’t make any of our sushi pleasant to eat. We tried our best to eat as many as we can because we’re not wasteful people but we wouldn’t try it again. They get cookie points for having an area for a band to play, karaōke, and a room in the back. I don’t know about this place. I don’t think I’d come back to it, honestly. Also, I looked up the definition of Fortitude and didn’t get the correlation. Regardless of grammar, don’t listen to me. Just go and try it an make your own opinion on the place. Two stars for nice but really slow service. 1 star for the food.

Filipino Sushi Joint? I can dig it! This is the 3rd sushi place to open within a half mile of the Golf & Roselle intersection of Schaumburg in the past two months. It might sound like overkill, but let’s be real, can you ever have enough sushi places? Especially ones with lunch and happy hour specials. I’d had my eye on 40tude for about three months now. I drive by here often since I have a meetings in the area and also don’t own a printer so I frequent the FedEx office next door and when I saw they had happy hour specials my interest was piqued even further. I stopped in one afternoon after finishing a meeting and pulled into a packed parking lot. I was cutting it within a half hour of the end point of their happy hour menu, so I was kind of worried that maybe I wouldn’t get seat, but when I walked in I saw a completely empty dining room and one patron at the bar with the single bartender/server. It was just me dining so they gave me the option of sitting at the bar or a table in the dining room and I chose a single table in the dining room. I wasn’t starving, but I did want to try a few rolls before the drive back home and knew I wanted to keep it budget-friendly with their happy hour deals. I think most, if not all of the appetizers on the happy hour menu contained meat so I skipped that and went with just sushi, realizing after I was already WAY too stuffed from sushi rolls that they also had happy hour nigiri for $ 1. Next time. As far as the happy hour sushi, the selection wasn’t fantastic. I’m not a big fan of roll that are fried, or with tempura and I can’t stand cream cheese, and rolls that fit those parameter made up a good portion of the menu. I went with a spicy salmon roll, and then two veggie sushi(Fruit Roll & Vegan Mix) since they seemed more appealing than my other happy hour options. I’d arrived a tad after 5:30 and the sushi took a little over 25 minutes, which seemed rather long considering there was only one other single patron in the place. I didn’t have anything else on the agenda so I didn’t mind too much(plus they brought me over a miso soup), but I was kind of bummed that by the time the sushi arrived the happy hour special was over so I couldn’t order any more discounted rolls if I’d wanted to. As a self-proclaimed miso soup connoisseur, I have to say that the soup they brought me wasn’t one of my favorites, but it was also complimentary… although I feel like that’s somewhat standard at sushi joints in the area, and this bowl comes in last place on my last, sadly. The salmon roll took a few minutes longer than the veggie sushi, and overall I’d say that the presentation could have better. It was a tad sloppy and definitely wasn’t the most beautiful bunch of rolls, but it was happy hour so maybe the signature rolls are where they shine. The taste of the sushi was good, not great. The spicy salmon wasn’t spicy in the least bit, but the fruit roll was really refreshing and a great dessert roll to end on. All the rolls for happy hour are priced at $ 5, which isn’t bad at all, but I felt like for the area, there are plenty of other sushi places(Sushi Ya, Sakura, Sake, Appa Maki) where I could get the same rolls, with better presentation and quality but for less than $ 5 a roll, and that’d be off the other place’s regular menus. I definitely wouldn’t be excited about paying any more than $ 5 for what I got. The rest of the entrée dishes had a fun, Filipino flair, so that might be a better bet over the sushi happy hour special. They also do a Filipino Sunday brunch which sounds amazing so I could see myself going back — Plus, the family/staff here were really friendly and I’d like to see them improve on some new business jitters and succeed.

It was not planned for us to come here but happy that we did. We were not sure what to expect. As we walked into the place, we were greeted right away. Ambience is cozy with loud music. Their menus listed wide selection from American to Asian fusion. We started with appetizer — chicharon bulaklak which turned out to be better than we expected, that we ended up ordering another one. Grilled pork belly was so tender and juicy but the portion was a little small, could have been more for the price. Pork adobo slider was certainly very tasty and mouth watering and definitely would order it next time. Maybe it can be ordered as a dish then that would be awesome. Because our experience have been great so far, we could not get enough of the good taste, we also ordered their«silogs» that comes with the best«lugaw» ever. It turned out to be good as well. This is definitely a place to check out. Their closing time is 2am on the weekends so that’s plenty of time to hang out with friends. There are so much listed in their menus therefore will not run out of trying something new each time. We hope that the quality of food stays the same way as we have seen other restaurants where quality suffered as they gained new customers.

I’m wavering somewhere between 3 – 4 stars but in the interest of knowing I’ll be coming back and trying more things — I’m bumping it up. :) The staff at 40tude is amazing! Both our server and the owner were so nice and gracious during our time there. The owner told us about the business and gave us a tour. Pro-Tip: They have free karaōke for parties of 10+ so long as you are ordering food and drinks. That’s a huge bonus! The owner told us it’s mostly English songs with a spattering of Filipino. My friend and I split a bunch of drinks and food — Yum! Note these are their prices during happy hour only! Second Pro-Tip: Happy hour from 3 – 6 Tuesday to Sunday(yes you read that right — weekends, too!!!) with amazing prices on drinks and food. +Tuna & Salmon Nigiri 99c during happy hour! –Huge pieces! Well worth the price for sure +Vegan Maki for $ 5 I ordered the vegetarian maki but actually got the vegan maki… didn’t realize it until the bill came and I thought, oh that explains why I didn’t taste any sweet potato! ha! This was an interesting roll with asparagus, carrots, Cucumber, Avocado, Sesame Seeds, and an Edamame Purée Sauce over the top. Loved the sauce! But was missing the avocado. +Philadelphia Maki for $ 5 — pretty good! It was listed as being with avocado but instead had cucumbers. +Mango Mojito for $ 5 Their special cocktail drinks for $ 5 were so good! My friend had three of these Manjo Mojitos +40tude Punch for $ 5 — Strong but delicious mixed drink! +Blue Skyy Lychee for $ 5 — My personal favorite of the three mixed drinks I tried. It had a huge lychee on a stick in the drink. +MGD for $ 2 — awesome deal during happy hour! Our total was $ 55.66 including tax & tip for 2 people for 3 drinks each and enough food to fill us. I think there are a few small kinks like listing oysters but being out of them and putting different ingredients in rolls than what is listed, But!!! It’s really a good deal during happy hour and I’m anxious to go back and try some more items from their menu! I also want to go on the weekend and try their Filipino brunch… Mmmm sounds good!

I’m not sure whether these previous eight reviews are close friends or family but it seems they’re not avid Unilocalers(me included). This review is just from the late night visit, I will need to give it a final review when I come back during the day. The old Nobu’s, I heard it was for sale awhile ago and it surprised me someone stepped up to the challenge to keep it a sushi place. What surprised me even more is that they’re Filipino. Seen Japanese, Korean, even Chinese owners/chefs but this was new for me with sushi. Something about the interior that desperately screams for attention while being on the plain and boring side. Cafeteria like large open room with the bar(s) on the left as soon as you walk in. After browsing the simple menu I decided to try some plates I knew to better critique them with. Had the Korean Short Rib appetizer. What makes Korean short rib delicious is the time it soaks in the marinade BEFORE grilling, that makes the meat nice and tender. This short rib had sauce dashed on the beef they grilled which made it dry. Not many non-Korean places get this right but if you’re going to serve one of Korea’s staple foods, research a little. Pork belly sliders. Where to start. The meat itself was pretty tasty, if there was an appetizer with a few of those pieces on a small plate it would be great. To put that small piece on a small bun with nothing else doesn’t do it justice. If making a slider with one of your native foods, make it amazing. Besides waiting longer than it should’ve taken for these small plates, one of my guests ordered a Dragon roll and a bowl of rice which made me feel like they went out to plant and pick the rice themselves before bringing it to us. Then we were told that our tables roll went out to a different table. Mistake or favoritsm, who knows. Honestly i was a little nervous about trying the sushi after those plates. My next visit I will for sure then hopefully bump this new place up a star. I honestly feel as if I should go a start lower just to average the«perfect» reviews out. I was really excited when I saw the rating, slightly mislead but nonetheless it deserved a shot. Do I believe this place deserves a five star rating, no. I do believe there can be something here though, it won’t get big but it can do slightly better than just getting by if they change a few things. I don’t think sushi fits here but I will try it and we’ll know for sure. sidenote to our server and maybe everyone else, Thai, the ‘H’ is silent.

This was my Facebook review to the owner. In it, I reveal why it was such a great experience: Hi! I just dined for lunch and I have to tell you I was really impressed! I love what you did with the décor(family is friends with the previous owner and we used to go when it was Nobu’s too). The attention to detail is very nice. From the added touch of having lotion for dry hands in the bathroom, to the colors and mirrors and use of space, it’s very pleasing to the eye. I must say that when I first looked at your menu online I was a bit surprised. I was expecting an all Asian menu and when I saw the mixed cuisine options I wasn’t sure if that would have been the best decision. After all, that can really be a make it or break it kind of deal for most restaurants. But after dining in I rather enjoyed the menu options and the food was fantastic! Plus, the service was beyond expectations. At one point the owner even walked a customer to her car in the rain(as he was getting rained on) all because she had forgotten her umbrella. Now THAT’S service! All it really requires to keep a place open and patrons loyal is giving top rated service they can’t get elsewhere. And to express how important great service is, today looks like a pretty crummy day and I had to go back to work after lunch. No one likes being out on such a gloomy day, dealing with traffic and then added work til you get home. Sitting at my desk I realize that none of that mattered for once. I experienced such a nice meal and great service that it made me happier about my day. And even though I am usually quite pleasant to my phone callers, I even answered the phone with a slightly cheerful ring to my voice. So many times I’m just rushed to grab food and get crappy or mediocre service and the rest of my day is negatively affected. So thank you for also providing a wonderful break in my day and letting me recharge :) I normally don’t go out of my way to give reviews unless I encounter either an extremely good or bad experience. So, naturally, having such a pleasant experience today I just had to give my kudos to your new establishment, to the owner, chef(s), and staff. You all did an amazing job at even such a simple lunch of only a few customers. I will definitely be dining again with my husband and will be passing along good reviews to my friends and co-workers. Perhaps we will be dining for dinner this week. I would love to experience what it is like at a busier shift. LOL, and a few drinks perhaps :) My only regret is that I had forgotten to ask for business cards or take-out menus but will be sure to do so on my return visit. Thank you all again and congrats on the grand opening of a great new place!!!

Boombastic! That’s the first word that came into my mind after sinking my teeth into that succulent Oyster Rockefeller. Came in here after hearing so many recommendations through mutual friends. Decided to dine with a couple of my own. In a chain-restaurant filled Schaumburg, its always a blessing to find a hidden GEM. Apparently they just opened up… but customer service wise, they are ahead of the pact. The Chef even came out of the kitchen to ask how our food tasted and to see if there was anything else we acquired. We pretty much ordered like it was a tapas bar because we wanted to try out so many things from their menu. They’re were so many different types of dishes on there. Here are some of the things we ordered: Surf n’ Turf– Ordered this because of the Unilocal reviews and its no joke. If you like steak… and you like Maine Lobster… then you’ll LOVE this combination! Nikko’s beef brisket– Very tasty and extremely tender. A generous portion of meat, vegetables and fried onion strings. Kinda has a Zing to it! Calamari– I understand that mostly every Asian restaurant serves calamari, but this one packed a punch. Definitely recommended. Came with toasted slices of french bread, and asked for more just for their sauce! Pork shoulder– OMG! OMG! OMG! Usually pork cooked this way is usually tough and hard to chew… but damn, this was was SUPERTENDER and ultra juicy! Highly recommended for sure! Along with those, we also had the Palabok, Hainanese chicken, Pig on a Stick and Their 40tude Roll. Its always a PLUS when restaurants use REAL Lobster and King Crab in their sushi! =) The breakdown: One star for atmosphere. One star for customer service. One star for menu variety. Two stars for food. I dunno ’bout you, but that adds up to FIVESTARS! =) We will definitely be back in the near future. Perhaps after a long day of shopping. Oh Yes!
