LOVELOVELOVE this place. Can’t go wrong with their hotdogs, I usually get The Mexico. YUM, grilled jalpenos, bacon, onions and mayo. Ahhhh fatness galore! They are closing their doors on Friday Nov 1, 2013 =(So sad!!! I tried a couple other dogs on their menu and everything is satisfying but nothing as good as The Mexico. there’s usually only one person taking orders and cooking so service is a little slow but it’s a hotdog stand so it’s kind of expected.

Remember that scene in «Legally Blonde 2» when Paulette tells Elle, «Oh my God! You look like the Fourth of July! Makes me want a hot dog REALBAD!» I loves me some Jennifer Coolidge. Anyway, that’s probably how I felt the day I decided to patronize Zog’s on a particularly warm late-summer weekday. I’ve noticed the place before, you can’t help it since it’s right across from the Montgomery BART station hole. With a bright yellow awning and the wiener lettering of its name, it looks like a carnival midway kiosk(photo: ), but apparently doesn’t close up when the clowns leave town. No, this clown wanted a hot dog real bad that day, and dammit, he was getting it. OK, I got two. I first ordered the $ 5.50 Mexico, which is a grilled plump frank surrounded by a strip of bacon, sliced jalapenos, grilled onions and slathered in yes, mayo(photo: ). It’s sloppy to eat, which I don’t hold against Zog, but the south-of-the-border dog was a bit on the burnt side, which tends to bum me out. The second dog was off their gourmet sausage menu, the $ 4.40 Bratwurst, which was also quite a plump pork dog with a bit of Bavarian in it since it’s marinated in Gordon Biersch Marzen beer. This one definitely required me to use the public condiments — a three-splooge of mustard and ample scoops of relish, and chopped raw onions(photo: ). This one was closer to the mark since it felt more ballparky. Since I was at the splooge station, I got extra plastic cups of mustard and yes, mayo. Stop judging me. But I needed an appetizer, don’t you think? A $ 2.50 bag of French Fries will do except they were a bit on the arid side and not as satisfying as I was hoping(photo: ). I forgot to get the half-dozen plastic cups of ketchup necessary to eat them, I guess. As you could probably guess from the presence of the decidedly ungreen plastic cups in my account, there is no place to sit near Zog’s unless you want a hungry transient giving you a threatening stare. I ended up eating at the nearly-as-weird dining room in the Galleria, the one on the third floor that is apparently unrentable as a commercial space. FOOD — 3 stars… plump dogs, rather variable in treatment and flavor… still with the unadorned gourmet sausages if you ask me AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… just a kiosk with no seating so prepare to travel to eat them SERVICE — 2.5 stars… just OK, only open during the day TOTAL — 3 stars… if you want a hot dog REALBAD!

I just just roaming around the Financial District when I suddenly came upon Zog’s Dogs. I figured it, why not give it a try? After looking at their interesting menu, I decided on trying The Matrix. The Matrix – It was a filling dog and the bacon in the bun was an interesting twist. Kinda wished I had checked in before ordering though so I could’ve had a free lemonade. Oh well. Next time! Prices here a pretty moderate for a hot dog stand. And a good perk is that you get a free lemonade with purchase of a dog when you check in with the Unilocal app. If you’re ever craving for a good hot dog and you’re in the Financial District, I’d say give Zog’s Dogs a try!

Great dogs at good prices! Have you looked at the pictures yet? I’ll vouch for The Mexican! They even have some fancy ketup/catsups. Make sure you don’t miss something delicious on your dog. PLUS, they gave me a FREE lemonade with Check-In!!! THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKINGABOUT!!! Go get one!

Pretty pricey for some hot dogs, but delicious nonetheless! I got the bobo hot dog and it was flavorful with chunks of garlic in the hot dog itself! The sauerkraut, spicy mustard and onions they provide on the side, helped this whole shindig by making it super tasty! They have other condiments, such as ketchup and relish, but mustard is my all time favorite. Pretty simple hot dog joint that is convenient to grab and eat for lunch. No seating area here, but public seating around this hole in the wall place! Remember to check in to get a complimentary lemonade that will go well with whatever hot dog you get!

They have veggie weeeeeiners. Mmmm. Pretty good ones too! Pros: Fast, cheap, lots of options. Some sides and drinks are available(although the sign did say some things were sold out when I was there). Great location and easy to get to if you’re in the financial area. Cons: at least for the veggie dog, the bun completely overwhelmed it. It seems almost tempting to get the Prop 8 dog in veggie version. I’m not sure if this is for all the hot dogs or just the veggie wiener. The other drawback is that it doesn’t really come packaged«to go». I had to walk back to the office with a semi-exposed hot dog. It’s best to eat right there in the courtyard. Suffice to say though, this is well-worth going to. Super tasty, good price for lunch, and good service.

I looked on Unilocal for places near my class/campus, and this came up as being nearby. It is easy to find, and brightly coloured. I checked in and saw an offer for a free lemonade with a purchase of any dog. I got the Bobo dog deep fried, my friend got the same, and we got chili fries. This set us back about 16 dollars. While waiting for our order, we went to the condiment table on the right hand side. They had onions, jalapenos, and relish. For sauces, they had a bunch: ketchup, curry ketchup, hot sauce, spicy mustard, ranch and some other one. These are all free! The dogs took a bit longer than I expected. Returning to class, I set everything out on the table, and when I opened up the wrapper… the hot dog was kind tiny… for 5 dollars… I proceeded to open all my sauces and toppings and loaded up the dog. I took my first bite, and it was surprisingly delicious. The garlic flavours really came out nicely in that first bite, and continued to mix well with all the toppings I put on. This was a pretty good hot dog, but I’m not sure about paying 5 dollars for it. It was definitely too small for 5 dollars. I’d say, it should be closer to 3.50, but even the basic hot dog is 3.75. I guess all the free condiments and sauces make up for this?(just not in my book). Next up was the chili fries. After my first bite, I was pretty much done. It was much too heavy, and I felt like dying. I quickly grabbed my free lemonade, and eased it down my stomach. Wow, this lemonade was quite good! It’s light and not overly sweet. The ice did melt down a little which helped balance the flavours nicely. Yum! Note, credit card minimum is $ 5, and they do take American Express. Pros: — Takes AMEX — Flavourful dog — Complementary condiments — free lemonade with check-in Cons: — Pricing — longer than expected wait — chili cheese fries Overall, it’s an okay place, but my biggest gripe is the pricing. I probably wouldn’t come back again, unless somebody else is really really craving it, and drags me along.

CLOSED — They were one of the best! Update: $ 4.35 for my favorite, the German frankfurter( ), though I added the condiments, hehe. They have all kinds of hotdog-related items, from hot links to sausages to specialty hotdogs to: — Matrix = bacon inside the bun( ) was $ 5, — the regular dog( ), — the jumbo dog( ), — the hot link( ), — «zoggystyle» = deep fried(but you have to ask for it), etc.( ). The condiment stand includes all the items you will need — add mayo and jalapenos to your dog and it becomes even more tasty. I always grab a $ 2 lemonade too. This is a hotdog stand( ) so it’s strictly to-go orders. After getting my order I’d go over to the courtyard/sitting area/meeting place/whatever it’s call/steps by the corner of Market and Post streets and enjoyed away. I would have a bunch of check-ins here if were to use that smartphone feature.
