I have to give this a 5 Star Award. I was skeptical at first as I walked past the buffet line that extended to lengths that lovers of Las Vegas would be envious of. I passed on the buffet — while a lot of the items looked tasty; there is just too many sketchy/nasty people that don’t quite«get» buffet etiquette and I don’t like getting sick. Anyways, they have a made to order area as well that looks like your typical burger fare as well as Chinese and soups(wonton and the like) that they’ll throw together for you. I almost went this route because the soup(and everything else for that matter) looked fresh and tasty. However, I looked over at the sandwich wall and I saw it, «Roast Beef — FRESH». How could you go wrong with that. I got mine with cheese(a ton of different varieties) and the works(add 50 cents if you want the cucumber added). A bunch of different bread types — both sliced and rolls. I just finished it and the sandwich was pretty damn good. Better than Subway and Togo’s. Maybe next time I’ll give the buffet line a chance…

Lee’s Deli is a veritable cornucopia of cheap salad bar and deli items in a wasteland of Yuppie-priced lunch options. I was particularly pleasantly surprised with the freshness and variety of the fruits and vegetables at Lee’s, but there’s also something to please every palate. The sushi rolls look like they wouldn’t kill you, the bakery items are solid comfort food, and the steam table with fried Chinese stuff falls into the so bad it’s good category. Even better, the line moves fast and the prices are bargain basement(for the financial district).

Lee’s, what a place to choose… Each one has the same mystery meat served on steam tables soaked in margarine and other unearthly delights promising just the kind of conditions your cardiologist warned you about. It’s CHEAP food sold by the pound. Salad selections have been chemically treated to insure crispness and its amazing just how many days it will be served before making it to the trash. Perhaps it never does. Want to save a buck, then Lee’s is your place. Want something more than a little better for around 1.50 more, maybe something that wont make you sick… Try Hawaiian BBQ one store front down. No charge by the pound scenarios and no msg for those of us that like food to taste like food.

CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED ********************************************************** This popular location of the Lee’s Deli large empire of sandwich shops CLOSED earlier this week(October 2008). They lost their lease. But there’s still about 10 other locations spread out around the city. Food was decent, service was SUPER fast, a very affordable lunch spot. ********************************************************** CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED — CLOSED

Nice lunch time joint. I went here almost every other day when I was attending ACT Summer Training Congress in 2007. I gotta say you get really good bang for your buck here for the grub. The soups are nice, hot, and tasty… I remember mixing my chicken noodle with gumbo… hella tasty! The salad bar rocks hard and ive been tempted to eat outside and come back in to refill. I did not. I am a good boy. The sandwiches are stacked and this is the spot to go to with a date before the shows in the theatre district… then you wine and dine later. For the speed, quality of food, fresh ingredients, and value I give it a four plus!

Yum. I stumbled onto this place last week when I was starving. They have a salad buffet where you can get anything you want for just $ 5.99/lb. I grabbed some Chinese chow mein, potato pasta, salami, artichoke, tons of spinach, chicken pasta, and more! They have lots of soup to choose from too. I got the turkey and sausage one(special for the day.) I haven’t had any sandwiches yet, but I am going back for lunch asap. The only bad thing is that they have no seating. It’s all to-go orders. Everyone needs to go here for lunch.

Lee’s makes the best deli sandwich. Fresh turkey carved off the carcas, so many breads — it’s hard to choose! Everything is fresh and the price is great! They have the assembly line down!

I love going to the Lee’s that’s located on Drumm and Bush. It’s got seating for all, sandwiches if you will, you can order burritos if you want, grab some ready to go cereal, unlimited amount of beverages, a salad bar that WILL amaze you, and a wide selection of chinese food hot and ready for your pickin. the quality of the food varies time to time, but the prices are better than 90% of the other restaurants in the area. how you can you complain with SEMI-FRESH, DOITYOURSELF, salad bar at half the price. cooome on people now

By far, the biggest bang for your buck in the FiDi. I love the roast beef sandiwches with cheddar and avocado, and they pile it so high I have to be careful to not let it explode when I eat it. Since it’s so cheap, don’t expect great service or a clean environment — just eat your $ 5 sandwich and be satisfied!

I’ve been mulling this question over and over in my head: How do I best describe Lee’s Deli? I do eat here several times a week, so it shouldn’t be that hard. Here’s what I came up with: «Lee’s Deli is better than bad, but not really good.» The food is fresh, hot when it should be hot, cold when it should be cold and the service is quick. The ladies behind the counter that make sandwiches remind me of the Soup Nazi. When you place your order, you have to be quick, concise and know exactly what you want when it’s your turn. If not, you’ll be passed over and you’ll have to go to the back of the line. No soup for you! It’s just kind of… blah. I can’t really think of a bad meal I’ve had there but I can’t really think of a good one either. So, yeah, better than bad, but not really good.

«Next please! Next please! Next Please!» This expression haunts my dreams. And all you Lee’s Deli goers know what I am talking about. The machine like precision by which the Lee’s Deli staff can bang out a BLT on rye with extra mayo is a site to behold. The people here must be trained at a precision electronic assembly line somewhere. It is almost creepy. In addition, change is calculated and dispensed at supercomputer like speeds. God bless you Lee’s Deli staff. You beat those guys at Quizno’s any day. I don’t even care if your sandwiches aren’t toasted. ps. I must disclose to my fellow Unilocalers that the food here does kinda suck, but it really is worth seeing the machine that is Lee’s Deli in action at least once.

Fast, efficient, & delicious! All the sandwiches here are REALLY fresh. You can tell, because the turnover rate here is ridiculous. There are at least 10 people being served every minute(during peak hours). I’ve never had anything bad here, and they will accommodate to almost anything you desire. Hardly any space in here to dine in, but there’s plenty of outdoor eating space. Extra fun for people watching! Who would think that Chinese People could make such a good deli?

I’ve been on and off from this location for 3+ years. Everytime I order a sandwich, whether it’s a Tuna, Pastrami, Turkey or whatever on Whole Wheat bread, they always get it right. Sometimes it’s a little hard for them to understand, but repeating what you want on the sandwich usually works. The only complaint I have about that store is that it has zero air-conditioning. It’s like a desert in there during hot days.

I am baffled by the apparent San Francisco obsession with Lee’s deli. I am still trying to figure out why they have two identical menus hung side by side on the wall, or why each sandwich is restricted to 1 meat and 1 cheese. No oddities, nothing special, and so impersonal. I also get irritated with the guy at the register who slams his hand down on the counter, rolling through the line, letting me know to throw my sandwich and money down on the counter at the same time because I must pay in under 10 seconds, giving me so much anxiety I can’t even look at the chips to the right of the register. So many better options, it’s almost a joke people go here.

Its fast, its convenient, its relatively clean and its cheap. It is not the best Chinese food or salad bar but when you don;t have enough time to have a sit down lunch, this is a very good option. Not all entrees are edible. So you have to carefully look at them before you decide to put them in your plate. I realized you have all options for every diet, low carb, low fat, junk diet etc etc. My favorite is See food diet… you see food you eat.

Ahhh Lee’s. It’s small, it’s a bit dingy but oh my goodness cheap, quick and fulfilling. I’d go tuna on dutch crunch, then turkey sandwich, and then the BLT. Good selection of drinks, chips are cheap. I wouldn’t go for the weird sushi-stuff they keep on the counter, purely for refrigeration concerns. I like Lee’s and don’t go here enough. My co-workers go every. day. at. noon. They *might* be getting brainwashed. If you see Peter and Joe there at noon, tell them HI for me!

On Saturdays, most deli’s and restaurants are closed in FiDI, so there are limited option to get a quick bite in «weekday busy» part of town. Matt’s empty tummy search for a quick bite starts & continues. All Lee’s delis that are open during the busy weekdays are closed on the weekends. But the Lee’s in the heart of the Market St. strip is open on Saturdays and no Sundays. Since Matt found this place, Matt don’t have to go far to get my grub on. Lee’s make their acclaimed fresh Roast-Turkey, Roast-Beef, Corned-Beef and other salads and pastries during the weekdays. On Saturday, Matt had the popular Roast-Turkey on wheat. The Turkey was a tad dry that day, as oppose to getting them on the weekdays. Matt assume that they don’t make their signatured fresh items on Saturdays. But still the positive side is that the Lee’s Deli on Market St. is open on Saturdays. It is still another option in places to eat, as oppose to eating elsewhere.

when I first got to the city and worked, my co-worker recommended the turkey and avocado sandwich. Yum it was, and still is yum. What i’ll avoid and recommend you avoid is their sushi. its from some sushi place on geary(not sure what) but I started getting really bad #2 action going on. and that’s not cool. fast as a jedi they are getting your food in a bag,. however, I’d get a sandwich anyday.
