If your in to crappy music and a skater vibe this is your place. Makes sense why there is only guys hanging out over there.

Sweet dive bar — I dig it. I’m not that into watching sports, but I came here twice with friends to watch the Warriors game(during finals too) because they serve good whiskey and it’s not ridiculously crowded like the other bars. In fact you may even get a seat, sir. Pours? Not stingy. Cost? Fair for downtown SF. I know other bars serve more selection, but factoring in base prices, selection, and pour sizes I think these guys do it right. Ambience? Like a dive bar — pool table and pinball machine, but will serve you better drinks than your average dive. Not pretentious at all like many bars and whiskey joints. Whisk(e)y selection? Changes up every time and has a decent selection of bourbon, rye, and scotch. Bonuses: There are beer options and maybe other liquor options if you don’t like whiskey(but why???). All the bartenders here have been helpful and nice. If you want to decide between a a couple whiskeys, they will usually let you have a tiny taste.

Ambience: 4⁄5 I love dive bars like this. Pool table, graffiti, weird art. I likey Service: 5⁄5 Bartender was super friendly and willing to offer suggestions when requested. Drinks: 4⁄5 Small whisky selection, but a few good quality drinks at a reasonable price. Tidbit: Name is because the owner, Paul, was once fired for«stealing». He has opened 3 bars with«thieve» in the name. «Don’t get mad, get even». I love it!

There really isn’t much to say positive or negative. Decent selection of whiskey and divey; usually not too crowded. Great for an embarrassing date that you don’t want to go anywhere but to bed. the lighting is really horrible. One plus is the pool table and pin ball machine, if they work. The bartenders are usually friendly but sorta limited in their mixology. Flavorful TL locals are usually lurking near too.

People talk highly about this spot and I just didn’t understand why. The place is divey, which is great, I love a dive bar but the selection of liquor was not what I expected. The way people talk about this spot is like it’s got some great selection and the drinks are amazing. They don’t and they weren’t!

This whiskey girl has finally stumbled upon her favorite whiskey bar! I’m not a whiskey connoisseur, so the bartender Jamie was super helpful in helping me to decide which types of scotch I would like. Turns out my favorite so far is Great King St. Anyways, the whiskey selection here is impressive. They also have a few good beers on tap in case you want a change of scene. And I always love where there is a pool table in the back of the bar. Will be coming here more often!

Great little dive bar! Service was awesome and drinks were perfect! The bartender made me a legit old fashioned, that wasn’t filled with sugar and tasted strong(just how I like my men ;)). I saw they also had Not Your Fathers Root Beer which I have never tried. Upon asking the bartender, he suggested we go next door and get a scoop of ice cream and he will pour the beer over it. An adult root beer float! It was raining and cold, but we’d be dumb not to. It was amazing! This bar was totally up my alley, not too crowded and great whiskey.

I live a couple blocks away and I still rarely come here. The prices are not as great as the whiskey selection. There are a lot of great pours here, but you’ll shell out for them. The place gets annoyingly crowded, service is slow, and it’s cash only. I’ve had great nights here, but they’ve all been INSPITEOF these factors, rather than BECAUSEOF them. Still, there are a lot of great whiskies, so I won’t fault them on that count. YMMV

Great prices, great whiskey, not too crowded, and a bartender who manages to work alone on Halloween and still sling fast, delicious drinks out with barely a wait. Love it.

A pretty cool bar that we found by accident when walking back to our residency. As the name suggests, there is a lot of Whisk(e)y so Bourbon, Scotch etc. They also serve bottled beer and got several further brands on tap. The barman or should I say barmen were pretty cool as we got served by different ones and knew their whisk(e)y quite well(if you keep asking yourself, why I keep writing that word with an «e» in parenthesis — well, go there and let yourself be educated. Also why it is called bourbon or scotch as those guys know their shit. I can tell you, though, that it has to do with the country of origin and certain regulations to follow when producing the liquor) Anyhow, I let myself be distracted. We had some nice beer and whisky and had a good time. The prices there are okay I think, you can pay a loooooot for a small glass of whisk(e)y but good brands are expensive. Overall, we liked it very much and the atmosphere was cool, in the background of the bar all the varieties of the whisk(e)y they sell are presented. Looks very nice!

This has got to be one of the coolest little places(bars) we have found since moving to San Francisco area 5 months ago. David, our bartender was so cool and down to earth. The Johnny Walker Platinum was pretty good too. Great prices, dicey place, just off of Geary, but very nice people and fun place. Only downside: Bathrooms are horrendous. Stinky and dirty. Don’t sit down. lol But, that being said, we will be back. :)

After a long flight from the East Coast I was looking for a decent Manhattan near my hotel. You wouldn’t think it by looking at the place, but Whiskey Thieves fit the bill. Friendly bartenders, fantastic whiskey selection, excellent cocktails and a cozy neighborhood feel. Don’t feel intimidated — drop by, check it out and have a cocktail — am sure a regular will strike up a conversation with you.

Came here on a Saturday night. There was a good trickle of people, but it wasn’t overly crowded, which was really nice because we got to talk to the bartenders, who are equally awesome. They know all about whiskey and can tell you neat stories about Prohibition, the whiskey process, and whatever else! Laid back joint with good booze and drinks. My one request, and perhaps I’m being snooty, but please get REAL brandied cherries for your manhattans vs. the maraschinos! it makes such a difference!

This was stop number 2 from our one night bar hopping adventure in San Francisco this weekend, and it was pretty cool. It wasn’t that crowded to be honest, but we didn’t mind, getting a pint of pbr with a shot of Jameson for 7 bucks was fine by us! This place looks cool to go with a group of friends before heading out to the final bar, nice dive bar.

Divey place, but it was comfortable. We came over here after a fabulous dinner to kill some of the later hours of the evening, and it was great. We weren’t so sure we were going to fit in well when we first walked through the door, but we ended up enjoying it. I tried the Radeberger brew and I really enjoyed it. I couldn’t understand why it was cash only, unless maybe their credit card machine was taking the day off. The bartender was awesome and chatted with us pretty much the entire time we were there. We ended up fitting right in with the crowd there and no one batted an eye at us. The restrooms were a little uhmmm … dirty? Overall we enjoyed our time here, I’d definitely come back again.

More like a dive bar with bad selection of beers such as high life! There is a nice pool table but the crowd and the overall atmosphere is pretty ghetto.

I came to Whiskey Thieves when they had almost no whiskey. Seriously. Or, at least they were out of the cheap and good stuff — no Bulleit, no Four Roses, etc. They claimed to have been cleaned out the previous today. Weird. The bartenders were extremely friendly, though — talked through a couple of options and ended up making my wife a Manhattan with Jameson(ended up tasting better than anyone expected!). I opted for a PBR and a Jameson. Nice. The interior is pretty standard for a nice-divey place. I’d try this place again, hoping for a more full menu.

What the hell else am i gonna do when I’m on crutches other than play pool, look at fun/weird art and drink my pain away? Nice bartenders, nice people in the bar(feels like a neighborhood bar) and has a great selection of whiskey with a nice bartender that gives recommendations based on what his favorites are. There is nothing I don’t like about this place.

Oh, the joy of finding a whiskey bar with a truly impressive collection of single malts, bourbons, ryes and et cetera whiskeys. Here is a place, if you are fortunate to find yourself in the vicinity on a regular basis, where, under the tutelage/sage advice of a friendly, knowledgeable bartender, explore the mysteries of the various afore-mentioned spirits. You can learn about a broad variety of whiskies and not abuse your taste buds in the process. I recommend getting there and sitting at the bar where you can see all the grand variety of labels on the shelves. If you bring a friend or two, you can share tastes from shots and be able to try a good number of them without getting snookered. The atmosphere is dark, cool, and inviting. I highly recommend a visit if you like whiskey, or want to learn how to like whiskey(Best way, start with a good one and don’t go through the horrible experience of drinking blended rotgut.)

Whiskey Thieves is an absolute Mecca for hipsters. Each night hipsters across San Francisco put on their flannel shirts, comb their beards, and head here to sample the array of whiskeys and bourbons. If you see a hipster outside the Mission on a Saturday night chances are they are headed to Whiskey Thieves. Where else can you get a shot of you’ve-never-heard-of-it-but-I-have-bourbon and a tall can of PBR for 7 dollars? If you want someone to give you unsolicited advice on what to order, or even worse, a lengthy explanation on the differences between bourbon and whiskey then you’ve definitely come to the right place. The nice thing is Whiskey Thieves is rarely crowded, which means you can sit back and observe the hipster lifestyle in relative comfort, just don’t ever confuse a whiskey for a bourbon… they’ll have your head for that.

How appropriate to start off Whiskey Wednesday with a review about a whiskey bar. One of the better bar I went to on my trip to SF. $ 5 boiler makers, nuff said. Hahaha I think we had Jameson and PBR, but my friend said we had bullit rye. Whatever it was… it was a good deal. Before 5pm or something its only $ 5. It was the obvious decision to take up this deal at 11am on a Sunday #daydrinking. Came in here with fellow Unilocaler elites Tara C. aka the instigator, Dave D. and Marcus L. Little did Tara know, I don’t turn down for NUTHIN’ #turndownforwhat. So she offer to buy me a boiler maker if I take one with her. We were all suppose to just have a shot of whiskey and a tall boy PBR. But I walked out with 1 shot of whiskey and 3 tall boys, Tara and Dave ended having 1 shot and followed by a Double shot HAHAHA. I called those double shot(but it was a single), because the bartender had a heavy pure(I aint mad at chya), and is super cool. Left him a nice tip. Shout out to the nice people with the shrimp cocktails playing scrabbles. You guys are the best. I hope you guys read this, I’ll be back. You have my word. PS. Tara and Dave were SMASHED for the rest of the day/night :)

If you like your whiskey neat, you’re in for quite a treat. As the name implies, this dive bar has got quite a stock of whiskey, along with funky music, a pinball machine, and a pool table. My friend got the special listed outside: $ 7 for a tall PBR + shot of some random shitty whiskey, which I drank most of – let that go in the books, HA. My poor liver boohoo. I got the $ 8KENTUCKYMULE, a bourbon mule made with Bulleit bourbon(the whiskey of mixed drinks and a step-down from Jameson, which my friend told me is the lowest of the higher grade whiskeys), lime juice, ginger beer, and a wedge of lime. Cheap and tasty, but I’m still more partial to creative cocktails, no surprise there. CASHONLY.

This is my kind of bar. It’s a dive bar in the tenderloin with shelves of Scotch, Irish Whisky, Bourbon, Rye. There’s a decent beer selection too. If you’re looking for something other than Whiskey, you should probably go somewhere else. The bartenders were really nice and gave us some tastes of thing. It was about $ 15 – 25 for some good quality stuff so it wasn’t cheap but it’s fun to be somewhere you can try different whiskies. No credit cards. ATM inside.

Coole Whiskey Bar abseits der Touristenspots gleich neben der berüchtigten Ha-Ra-Bar(die ich gar ned so schlimm fand). Hier trifft man Locals!!! Tolle Auswahl an internationalen Whiskeys, liks Regal Bourbon, rechts Single Malt. Sitzgelegenheit auch draußen, ca. 3 Tische a 4 Personen.
