Great little find in the city, in the Tenderloin to be exact. Just exactly what we were looking for — a small bar with a fantastic craft beer selection.

I came here on a late Sunday afternoon and was surprised to find that happy hour was in effect! My friend and I had $ 4 draft beers and sat ourselves down on the lounge seating in the back of the bar. I love how many different options for seating there are. There’s the outdoor patio seating, which looks quaint and peaceful. There’s the bar seating, which is great for watching the game while having easy access to the beer taps. Then there’s the cushioned seating in the back(where the restrooms are) which seems good for groups. There are also TVs there too. It was pretty empty when we came here, but I can imagine that it gets pretty exciting when there is a huge game happening. Didn’t seem any more special than other bars I’ve been to, though.

If I could zero stars I would! First of all my. Friend and I walked in after last call like we are hot shit and ignored the bartender when she asked for our ID because we are special people that don’t have to acknowledge staff. Then when another employee asked us to leave we created a giant scene and the police were almost called. Just kidding but I just saw this actually happen. Some arrogant douchebags think they can disrespect the people that serve them. Listen you entitled POS, just because you and your friends are over paid for your technical abilities doesn’t mean a god damned thing. Go to one of the many horrible ultra lounges in town; stay away from the places real San Franciscans go.

I’m not much of a beer drinker, and the wine selection is just okay. But they do have a fantastic selection of beers on tap and in bottles for those who do drink beer, the servers are great, and it’s a nice laid-back place to go for a few craft beers. I definitely bring all my out-of-towner beer-loving friends here.

Yeah! After eating at El Giro Gallo and walking around the city a bit, it was time for a afternoon brew. After finding this place on Unilocal, highly rated I decided to check it out. It’s small, cozy and has an impressive selection of craft beers. $ 1 off drafts for happy hour too so I got a 16 oz Lucille IPA for $ 4. Win.

Yummy crafty beers. I had a relaxing evening here with friends drinking beers that you don’t normally find in other bars. I was glad I found parking way up on Van Ness Ave and walked to the café. The Polk Gulch neighborhood and local street color leaves much to be desired. I’ll still would come back. :)

Just walked in and sat down and was immediately approached by a lady who was extremely rude to us. Pretty much shooed us out and had a terrible attitude. I would give them zero stars if I could. Never coming back here again!

Colie is super nice and very cool. Come here and say HI to her and have a microbrew. When I was having a drink, a jewish guy and a black dude walked in together. No joke.

So many beers to try, so little time my friend. Just an advice, in case you see this guy selling tacos there, NEVER trust a Mexican when you asked: «it’s this taco/sauce spicy». The answer always will be NO. And you, you are gonna burn in chili spiciness my friend!!!

Out of towner here but definitely impressed with selection here. Henhouse Biere de garde 7% very malty. Happened to stop in on Monday $ 3 certain beers! When you’re from SD you are a little spoiled on the selections and types esp ipas browns pale ale imp stouts etc. even got praise from tender saying San Diego was best in nation! In slightly hard tenderloin area but show no fear… you can have good beer!!! Just act like you’re on a mission…

Great beer selection — not only on tap but also in bottles. Feeling overwhelmed? Give some flavor characteristics that you’re looking for, and ask for a recommendation. Another nicety: they let you bring food in. I like to grab a sandwich from Saigon, and walk it over to Amsterdam. Good food, good beer — and I feel like I’ve traveled internationally!

Looking for a place to grab a quick beer before catching a movie at Geary and Van Ness? Looking for somewhere to grab a pint of something halfway decent before hitting up Miller Lite drenched clubs on Polk St. Looking for a chill place to relax with your friends over some delicious craft beers? Well, look no further than Amsterdam Café. The place is on the border of Tenderloin and Nob Hill(sometimes affectionately referred to as the TenderNob), and is an excellent spot for a beer loving resident from(or visitor to!) either of these neighborhoods. The beer selection here is excellent and continually rotates. I especially like that their menu isn’t particularly«IPA-heavy» as many beer bars tend to be. They’ve got a really good mix of different beers going on, from Imperial pumpkin ales(my first of its kind, and I have to say I’m a fan) to special casks of delicious stouts, they can be counted on to have a great selection. An impressive selection of bottles as well. The prices an really reasonable for San Francisco, with most taps weighing in at around the $ 6 mark. Aside from the great beer(I mean what more do you really need), there’s some other nice things about this place that are worth mentioning. For starters, they have a few outdoor seats(with heat lamps!) The place is rarely crowded(not sure why), so you can usually find a seat and have an actual conversation with your friends. The bartenders are always super friendly and know what they’re selling, making recommendations for you and letting you taste the taps before you commit. And the music is great to boot: last time I was there, they were alternating between Beck, The Cure, and Radiohead. So just go there if you’re in the neighborhood. Look for the round purple sign. Pros: — great beer selection & reasonable prices — never too crowded, never to loud — service is exceptional & knowledgeable Cons: — front doors are warped so when you open one, the other opens with it(I’m grasping at straws here)

This beer bar has the feeling of a café, but our hero wouldn’t be caught dead drinking a pumpkin spice latte here(because it’s more likely that they’re serving pumpkin ale). Amsterdam Café is pretty much like Toronado with way better lighting, amazing service, and plenty of seating and TVs to watch the game on. It’s almost like a beer lover’s sports bar, without all the crowds. They often have tap takeovers from craft breweries and they throw some pretty decent Beer Week events as well. Their beers are always rotating, and there’s something there for everyone whether you like saison, IPAs, or stouts. You might be a bit disappointed that you can’t get hookah or weed here given the name of the establishment, but there’s a hookah place a few streets east and weed all over the streets a few streets south. PROS: — Reasonable prices for really great craft beers at about $ 6 a glass or so. — Bartenders are really friendly and usually pretty knowledgeable about the beers on tap and in bottles. — They have a decent bottle selection of mostly local brews, and the prices are all pretty well labelled and reasonable. — Seating is plentiful. CONS: — No food available. This is a plain and simple bar.

They have a lot of beer selections on tap. It’s more or less about 5 bucks for an order of beer. It’s a chill layout for beer lounging. I like the limited, front, outside, seating area. They have TV inside and a small lounge area, all the way inside. A cool place to drop by — to just chill and drink up.

Let’s keep this review extremely simple. + friendly bartenders with patience serving a + fairly large selection of really good beers… + at reasonable prices + cozy seating, cozy décor The bartender spent a good amount of time discussing beer with me, while I was trying to make a decision. Helped me decide on some Saisons, my favourite kind of beer. They also helped my friends decide what to get too. The beers they have on tap are pretty awesome too. They have a lot of variety of specialty beers. All at very reasonable prices. What’s there not to love about this place? Recommended and will return!
