Meh, came during happy hour so some dishes on the menu are half off. This dishes are marked with a * next to the name. I ordered the 16 piece sashimi($ 21), the kiso salad, and the tsunami roll. Sashimi: way overpriced for the portion size, even at 50% off. The pieces were tiny! It looked like a regular sized slice of sushi was cut in half to make two pieces. I wasn’t able to get a picture but the portion sizes were super small. Kiso salad: the seaweed salad tastes like the one you can buy at Costco. It was meh. Forgettable. Tsunami roll: this roll is super fried. Very crunchy but no flavor. Disappointing as well but at least this roll was filling. Service: our waiter was nice but service was nothing special. Overall: disappointing quality of food and portion size even at happy hour prices. I would not come back.

I live a block from here and am so thankful to be close to a great sushi spot. They can be hit or miss but this one does it right. Awesome environment, ideal location, amazing service and delicious sushi.

really really great service but the food lacks presentation(for the prices) got the sushi set and it was brought on a plate, miso and salad cost extra. Decent selection of sake but didn’t feel like it was worth the price.

Been here half dozen times. Always delicious, fresh sushi. Great gin list. The sushi is always fresh, delicious, and perfectly presented. We’ve sat at the bar once or twice and enjoyed learning about and tasting some amazing Japanese whiskeys!

I always pass this place on my way to Philz, but finally gave it a try, on the pro tip of my sushi expert friend that you have to go during happy hour, where certain things are ½ price. We went on a Thursday evening, and the place was not packed at all. We were seated at the communal table, which we had all to ourselves. Our server was very nice and friendly; actually all the service was great. We got the sashimi platter(16 pieces) which we thought was an amazing deal and the quality of fish was top notch, the fatty tuna and the butterfish were our favs. Our least favorite was a bass piece. We also got the seaweed salad, which was the bomb, and a larger bowl than we expected(and for $ 2.50!) we are definitely coming back… For happy hour.

Meh. The seaweed salad was mainly mixed greens, the hand rolls were uninspired. Good service, blah food.

This is not good sushi, and it most certainly not even close to being worth the price. Fish was meh. The sushi chefs are poorly trained. I have been 3 times & each time there has been some terrible mishap. Went last night & it happened again, and I won’t be back. The fish that was on top of the $ 17 rolls was so thin that you could hardly see it much less taste it. The spicy tuna roll(how can you mess this up?) was off-color and it looked like it had krab in it. Krab is ‘fake crab’ btw google it. You should never be served fake crab at a place with $$$ on Unilocal. Also The other $ 16 roll we ordered, well it was the sloppiest special roll I’ve ever seen. The rice was falling off. 2 stars for the superb service, also the cocktails are very good, & strong.

Nice ambiance, cool menu. Food was decent, but not awesome. A little expensive. Extra credit for half price wine on Monday evenings.

Love their happy hour menu. Been there twice on Friday evening, busy but not crazy. Quite lay back. Fishes are very fresh. Great cocktails!

Hey, this place is alright. Parking might be a bitch since it’s right next to caltrain on 4th… we had to park 2 blocks down. Great food. Used the coupon from groupon and got $ 20 for $ 50, and we ordered hella food. Can’t use happy hour alongside groupon, but it ended up pretty cheap anyways. Sake, mmm that happy hour $ 6 dollar sake was awesome. Japanese flown in Hokkaido UNI, mmmmm.

When I first came here in 2009, the place was good. The fish was fresh, the service was good, albeit pricey, but what do you expect for this neighborhood? Tried it a few times years later, and never came back even though I live a few blocks away. I’m more of a rolls rather than sashimi person, so if you’re looking for way better sushi rolls for half the price, just walk another block down to Safeway for better sushi. The fish is fresher there. No groupon required.

I’m a big fan of Tsunami Mission Bay and not just because its walking distance from my apartment. The sake menu is extensive, the staff are genuinely helpful(especially with regard to the extensive sake menu) and the food is great — a real variety of rolls beyond the standard fair. In terms of favourites, as long as you’re not squeamish about eat«baby octopus» that clearly resembles baby octopus, get the Mars Attacks dish whenever you can. Probably give the Kobe beef tataki a miss. In my view, you can’t go wrong with the Drunken Whale sake. The place is clean, there’s usually a game on the TV at the bar if that’s your thing and it’s just all round a nice spot slightly off the beaten path given that it’s tucked at the back of Mission Bay. Definitely give it a shot if you’re in the area!

This was a lame, lame, terrible, awful, humiliating experience. I spent waaaaay too much for food that should have been half the price. Unacceptable. If there is a Japanese restaurant purgatory, this is it. Why was it only worth one star, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. The service: they were not happy to see us. We were an inconvenience to the greeter and our waiter took forever to take our order. He seemed really bored with his job, and honestly I would be super lethargic too working at this stick-up-your-ass stuffy sushi place. Also, our appetizers came AFTER our main courses. And they forgot about mine completely. It came out 30 minutes after everyone else got their dishes. The food: Okay. We had mozzarella sticks…(At a sushi restaurant???) which were eight dollars for only four. What the hell kind of bullshit is that?! Yes, they were good. But not good enough for that price. Plus, not even Japanese food. We also ordered the Japanese potato fries which came with chipotle mayo and salt. Wanna know why they come with those condiments?! Because they are FLAVORLESS. My group and I came to the conclusion that it tasted like deep fried nothingness. The void of flavorlessness that was these fries matched the void I felt inside when I walked out, having spent WAY too much and going to Safeway to get more food. My rock ‘n roll was good. Not waiting 30 minutes after all my friends got their food good. Not for that price. I left hungrier than when I arrived. My friend ordered the veggie tiger roll, which everyone tried and agreed that it was unsettling in such a way that it rocked the very core of what we knew to be sushi. It was not sushi. It was something else entirely. To this day, i do not know. Overall, this was a regrettable experience, we will never return. Please don’t go here unless you enjoy tossing your hard earned cash into a raging fire for fun. Like, this felt like that. Thank you Safeway for being so close and allowing us to continue to eat food without spending another $ 135 on mediocre, bougie, snobby Japanese food. Never, ever, ever again.

I came here with a Groupon for dinner on a Friday night. At 6:15PM, it was packed. This place isn’t very big so make a reservation if you can! For their sake, hopefully not everyone came with a deal. Omakase Sashimi(24) — Chef’s choice 8 pieces. Pieces were way too tiny considering the price. So worth it during HH though bc it’s 50% off. Fanny Bay Oysters(2) — tiny and unmemorable. Dynamite Green Lip Mussels — Baked mussels with dynamite sauce, sweet soy, served with scallion & tobiko. I liked that they diced the mussels rather than left them whole. My sister doesn’t usually like mussels but she enjoyed this! Sake Ceviche(11) — Spicy yuzu marinated salmon, served with fried wonton chips. Standard. Night in Tunisia(14) Mango & spicy scallop roll, topped with salmon, tuna & habañero tobiko. I have very low heat tolerance and this roll was too much for me. That habanero tobiko sure packs a punch. Phat Cat(15) Tempura shrimp & spicy tuna, topped with yellow tail, unagi, sweet soy & Thai chili sauce. Star of the night easily! Highly recommend this roll. I’d come back if I had another deal, or made it in time(before 7PM) for the happy hour. Otherwise, this place is pretty overpriced

Ordered tempura, spicy tuna and scorpion rolls with miso soup. Was a nice meal. The tempura shrimp was not that crispy. The location of this place great. However it’s overpriced compared to other good sushi places in mission or downtown.

You can upset me, but when you upset my 84 year old granny, well you’re on a different *@#* list with me now. Made a reservation for Saturday night at 6pm when they first opened. They could have seated us at a table, but they put my granny on a low couch, that was hard for her to get up from, so I asked them to switch our«table»(which was actually a couch) with someone else, someone younger who could get up or move about easier; they refused. My granny tried to be a good sport, and decided to stay even though I wanted to leave. Then they didn’t provide us with napkins, plates, or a soy sauce dish for our meal. I was constantly chasing down the waiter who seemed lost. The sashimi special said«2 slices of fish» of the day, but when it came to the Toro, they decided to trick us by giving us a two piece maki! See the picture, and when I told them it should be two slices of fish they said it’s the chef’s choice. Um, that’s not what your menu says. So since we were sitting on the couch, my grandma couldn’t lean forward, and since they gave us these dinky plates, the sushi rice(which was very wet and sloppily made) spilled all over her shirt, so I grabbed the waiter who took forever to get her more napkins. Then, though we ordered a special uni soup with rice and snapper, it didn’t arrive. The waiter said it would be another 35 minutes to make this soup! Um, why doesn’t it say that on the menu then? He then confessed that he forgot to put the order in. That’s when my granny wanted to leave, can you blame the poor woman? I’m usually a VERY generous tipper(usually 20%-40%) but this time I left a 5% tip. Don’t expect me back, and I will tell everyone the same, since the food quality was a meh and the service was horrendous!

It is only worth it to come here for happy hour otherwise its really expensive for the amount of food you get. But the quality of food is very upscale. the Sashimi tastes like they just fished it out. there presentation is excellent. The jalapeño himachi is not worth it as you get tiny pieces of sashimi, but i definitely recommend the himachi shiitake. we ended up order another one after we liked the first one so much. The place is very nice, and servers and wait staff are very friendly. would definitely come here again for happy hour.

I came here for my birhday on 10⁄29 and was very pleased! This place is beautiful when you first walk in! As soon as you enter you see the bar! On the right hand side there is a greeter. We were seated very quickly and because we came on Giants night of course the restaurant was packed! We were placed on the left hand side which had two group tables which the waiter called«the lounge area». It was nice for the three of us. Our waiter came minutes after and we explained to him that we had a Groupon voucher for up to $ 60 which was a good deal since we only paid $ 40 for the Groupon deal. The waiter took a while to understand but he soon understood what I was talking about. We all ordered a Margarita drink which turned out b to be $ 10 a piece WTF!. I didn’t understand that but ok. They were good but I don’t think they were good enough for that price. The food was good! I loved the atmosphere! People are very friendly and there is tons of privacy so you don’t feel like people can hear your when conversation. I truly enjoyed my birthday dinner here and very happy to have used a Groupon deal. I would definitely come back here but only if I had another Groupon deal!

I hate writer’s block. Not only was it grossly inconvenient in college(always right before a term paper was due), but it’s still pretty annoying now as I try to whittle down my list of reviews to write. Sure, the latter isn’t nearly as important, but at over 75 and counting, that list isn’t getting any shorter either! I just have to force myself through this, much like how I forced myself to bite the bullet and check out this Tsunami. Having already been to their Panhandle location a handful of times(yes, they’re one of the 75+), trying this Tsunami wasn’t necessary, but I still felt compelled to. Partially because I wanted to see how they compared, but mostly because I never reviewed this one after stopping in for drinks a while back. Anal Unilocaler problems, I know. – CHEF’S CHOICESASHIMI — Toro, Hamachi, Salmon Under Belly, Albacore, Tuna, Escolar, Salmon, Amberjack…$ 42(16 Pieces) ( ) Of the bunch, our favorites were the Toro(almost always good), Salmon Under Belly(silky and slightly fatty), and the Salmon(seemed particularly fresh and flavorful). Everything else was pretty standard for the most part, which, given the price, is actually a little disappointing. – UNINIGIRI…$ 8 ( ) Like with Toro, Uni is just generally good. There may not have been anything super amazing about this one, but the portion was decent and it sure was tasty. – SCORPIONROLL — Shrimp Tempura, Canadian Snow Crab & Cucumber, topped with Unagi & Avocado…$ 15 ( ) I’ve had this at the Panhandle location and this one tasted no different. It may be more of a cooked roll, but it also has some of my favorites — real crab, unagi, shrimp tempura, and avocado. Hard to argue with that! – PHATCATROLL — Shrimp Tempura & Spicy Tuna, topped with Yellow Tail, Unagi, Sweet Soy & Thai Chili Sauce…$ 15 (see above) Of the two we had, this one fell a little short. I liked the hamachi on top, but it seemed to get a little lost between the sauces and spicy tuna. Still, it wasn’t bad. A little less of the soy and/or chili sauce would have been nice though. Like with the Panhandle location(and their sister restaurant, Nihon Whiskey Lounge), the food here is pretty solid. However, I’m rounding down from THREEAND A HALFSTARS partly due to their prices, but mostly for the service. As nice as our server was, no one ever came by to check on us until it came time for the bill. Personally, if I’m in the mood for Tsunami, I’ll stick with the one in the Panhandle. NOTE: If you do plan on coming here, be aware that the entrance isn’t actually on King St. like the address indicates. Rather, the front door is actually on 4th St. by Berry. Also, check the meters/parking signs. While it’s nice that this location is larger and has more street parking available, it’s a bummer how meters here can run longer/pricier than other neighborhoods, especially when the Giants are in town.
