Rest in Peace TaKorea. I loved all the Gut Trucks of OTG, but you stood out the most. Now. You’re gone. Waaaaaaah. *tears* *slits wrist* Romes has fell off the face of this Airts. Bye.

Cheap, delicious, quick. What more can you ask for? I love it when TaKorea is outside of Bar Basic, since it’s right around the corner from my place. I’ll usually grab 3 tacos for myself. Mike, the owner, is really nice and actually remembered me on my second trip to the truck. Pour on the orange sauce! Also, check out my earlier review below: Also, follow them on Twitter so you know where they are. They’ve recently been going to John Colins in addition to Bar Basic. @taKoreaSF

Bumping into TaKorea on a drunken night is like walking into an oasis of flavor. Parked outside Bar Basic, TaKorea is a no-nonsense Korean taco stand. Sure, the menu’s pretty small, four kinds of tacos for two bucks a pop. But these tiny morsels are packed with flavor, and even better when you’re flazoored. The first thing you’ll notice about these tacos is the color(the pictures don’t do them justice). Hints of crimson marinade, julienned purple cabbage, zig-zagged by a creamy orange spicy sauce on a white flour tortilla. I tried three tacos, the bulgogi, chicken, and pork. The bulgogi tasted, well, like bulgogi, nothing too unexpected here. The chicken was actually kind of bleh. I don’t know if the chicken was all that fresh, or maybe something about the chicken clashed with the toppings, but it missed the mark. The pork taco, however was crazy good. A nice, savory flavor with a tiny kick of spice. You could order yourself three of the pork tacos and you wouldn’t go wrong. They’ve also got an assortment of sodas that go for a buck a pop. Highly recommended.

If I weren’t already married to a sweetass korean man myself, I’d marry one of you two boys! The owners serve up some of the finest Korean/Mexican influenced tacos I’ve EVER had. And I lived in LA when this craze first started awhile back, so I’ve tried them all. All four of the tacos they serve are delicious(I tried all 4 in one night!!!), and the oi kimchi that tops each and every ktaco makes them an unsurpassable delight. If you’re game, try the firey sauce they keep in the plexiglass cabinet… I wish they would bottle it an sell it *AHEM* at korean markets(I think it would be delish on hwae dup bap and bi bim bap). I’m thinking of having a party soon, and the chances of me hiring y’all to come out with the truck are very good guys, very good.

I can’t get over how PISSED I am that TaKorea thought of that catchy name before I did! Darn it. Smh –_-… So anyway, besides my hidden resentment toward TaKorea’s owners for being so darn creative when thinking of a name, their food is actually quite good! I like the fact that there are only pretty much 3 items on the menu and drinks are sold for just a buck; makes ordering that much easier! Trust me, order anything off their menu and you are good to go. Mmm… I’m looking forward to my next drunken visit :).

Genius tacos with a korean twist. The name is pretty darn clever, too. :)

Now THIS is what I was expecting from a korean taco. They actually use a tortilla, unlike Namu’s seaweed. The cucumber kimchi and other toppings on the taco really compliment the meats well. The spicy pork was definitely the best taco there — well-marinaded, spicy and delicious. The bulgogi taco was okay, but not nearly as good as the pork. There seems to be Korean-Mexican fusion menus popping up everywhere these days, but this one seems to outshine most of the other places in SF that carry the korean taco. Keep up the good work, and please sell in SFEVERY night!

The name of this truck is clever and speaks exactly to the type of food they are serving — a Korean taqueria, serving Korean inspired tacos. Comparatively these tacos are on the smaller side, the tortillas used are much smaller, but the tacos are still stuffed with great flavors, a lot of toppings and it’s probably impossible to eat one with out spilling or creating some sort of mess that requires a napkin or two. I ordered a chicken and a spicy pork and drizzled a little bit of the orange sauce they provide which everyone else before me seemed to be adding to their tacos as well. Both tacos were really good, full of flavor, and had a nice kick to them though the chicken was probably my favorite of the two.

NOW… THISISWHAT I CALL«ASIANFUSION» FOODTRUCKDONERIGHT! After my disappointing experience at Chairman Bao, Hapa SF, Adobo Hobo, Calbi(LA) and etc, I pretty much concluded that it would be best for my wallet and my a$$ to stay away from these types of food trucks. The problem with many of these«Asian Fusion» food trucks is in attempt to appeal to the wider general public which is to their demise, they water down a lot of their flavors and spices. So naturally, they lack many of the bold flavors I’ve grown accustomed to. However, TAKOREA is an EXCEPTION! After partying at Orson on Sat, 8.21.10, I got a whiff of BBQ and spotted a taco truck(in front of Bar Basic) on the way back to my friend’s car. I Unilocaled, «I WANTTACOS!» to my friends who were also drawn to the enticing smell of BBQ in the air. If I were sober, I would have known better and would have stayed FAR away from the truck. BUT, I’m so glad that I made than buzztastic decision b/c Takorea’s tacos are B O M B! MENU: There are 4 kinds of tacos: Bulgogi(Ribeye) Bomb, Chicken, Hell of Earth Fire Pork, and Vegetarian(tofu, kimchi, and cheese). PRICE: $ 2 per a taco, the size of a CD disk MYBUZZTASTICCHOICE: I opted for one Hell of Earth Pork Taco which was generously filled with pork and topped w/coleslaw and cucumber kimchi. TASTE: Asian Fusion at its BEST! The marinated pulled pork was tender, moist, and packed a great punch of flavors that exploded in my mouth; salty, savory, tangy, sweet, and spicy w/hints of ginger and garlic. The crisp soy-vinaigrette coleslaw added a great texture contrast and the cucumber kimchi, although spicy helped tone down the spiciness from the pork. Although I like Kung Fu Tacos b/c their fillings are flavorful, they use a yellow corn tortilla w/a very prominent corn flavor that overpowers the meat. Takorea uses a white corn tortilla which has a milder flavor that lets the bold flavors of the pork and accoutrements really shine. Don’t forget to drizzle the ORANGESAUCE(aka LC) on your taco(s). For those of you familiar w/La Vic’s(SJ) orange sauce, you’ll know what I’m talking about. *drool* Takorea’s version is every bit as good. It adds creaminess and an extra layer of spice that will tingle your taste buds. SERVICE/WAIT: This is the only reason Takorea isn’t getting 5-STARS. We got to the taco truck at 1:45AM and there was no line to order. However, we didn’t get out tacos until 2:10AM! They really need to learn how to streamline their process and be more efficient. There were 5 employees on the truck, yet only 3 were working; one cashier and two cooks. The two others just stood there doing ABSOLUTELYNOTHING! Thank you, Takorea for showing me that Asian Fusion trucks serving up scrumptious mouth-watering food exists in SF! I’m already looking forward to the next BUZZTASTIC weekend moment that we’ll meet again…

Saw this article in SFWeekly and knew I had to try the goods: Highlights include: their bomb ass spicy sauce, the cucumber kimchee garnish and their incredibly tender meats(even the chicken was super moist and perfectly spiced). My fave was the spicy pork. The owner, CHO is a pretty cool guy too! Five stars for food as well as friendly service.

OMG! I love this truck. Literally right outside of Bar Basic, the Korean truck was parked outside. NOTE: I’ve been dying to try out a Korean Taco but no one ever wants to go! LOL Yes I’ve heard of Namu but still haven’t made an attempt to go. As I looked at the Menu I saw they had beef, chicken, veggie, and pork. Each taco was $ 2.00CHEAP to me! Just the smell from outside, drawn me to the truck. NOTE: this is not drunk food! LOL I ordered 4 Chicken Tacos and waited for about 5mins. Two for me and two for the birthday girl. The results: Yay! I’m a fan. The flavors were so good, and spicy!!! I wish I took a picture of what I ate but I was starving! HAHAHA When I took my 1st bite: I told the people in the truck I’m going to Unilocal you! I love it =) I’m thinking about joining Twitter just to follow around the food trucks. What do you guys think???

MORE Korean tacos… Glad to find a replacement to late night vendor Seoul Tacos which closed last year. I found this new food truck parked in front of Bar Basic which is just a few steps from Coco 500 restaurant. For now they only have mini-tacos for $ 2 each(bulgogi, spicy pork, chicken, and veggie). But they’re gonna add more items in the future(burritos), AND they plan to join the Off the Grid event in 2 weeks. Note that the meats are pre-marinated/seasoned before cooking(similar to DIY Korean BBQ meats), in case you’re a wuss. Not spicy at all by my standards. They’re topped with a purple cabbage slaw and a slice of sweet cucumber kimchee. The tacos were delicious! freshly made and the 2-layer tortillas were perfectly soft(much better than anything from the Seoul on Wheels truck). Napkins and bottles of spicy creamy sauce(not that spicy) are located under the pickup window. Love the business name too, a riff on «taqueria», although a few customers were mistakenly calling it TaKorean. Luckily they won’t get any grief from a TX food truck by the same name(because it went under last month). Readers might recall that a NY loony had a verbal dispute with the Chairman Bao truck about their name, a few months ago. Legally not a problem since they operate in different regions. Get location updates via Twitter. Cash only.

Omg yes. this was just what i needed after a night of drinking and laughing with some friends from bar to bar. i mean, who doesn’t love tasty-eat-with-your-hands-kinda-messy-food in the wee hours of the night. sure beats going to iHop/Jack in the Crack to kill the afteparty hunger. i had one of each — beef & pork. added some spicy sauce and oooh it was spicy! you can tell they use fresh fresh ingredients and all the right spices. for $ 2 each, what a steal! the people are super nice too. when your tacos are ready, they yell out your name with a smile. mos def will return for more!

I was a bit skeptical at first because who would think of a Korean taco. Boy was I wrong! I had a beef and a spicy pork taco the other night for $ 2 a piece and it was delicious. Their tacos consist of a tortilla, a perfectly cut daikon to cover almost the entire tortilla, meat of your choice(beef, pork, chicken or vegetarian), red cabbage and orange spicy sauce(at your own will). Normally I’m not a fan of red cabbage, but the combination worked really well with these tacos. The cabbage was crunchy and tasty and gave a nice contrast to the soft meat and tortilla. The medley of flavors in your mouth will make all of your wildest dreams come true.

Heading to Bar Basic I felt the unusual rumblings in my stomach early in the night. Like a mirage I saw the what could well be heaven on wheels(when I’m hungry things get a bit dramatic). Instantly the large sign on the side of the truck which read«TAKOREA» told me what was being served up. And what a clever plan on words! Genius. As I approached the façade of the truck it looked barren. No menu, not much of anything, in a window a couple bottles of sauce and napkins, nothing else. I would’ve thought they weren’t totally setup had it not been another patron ordering at the window. As I approached the window I half jokingly said, «I’ll have two.» I just wanted something, I was hungry, and knew it was Korean tacos. So they do have choices between beef, chicken, and pork. So I tried them all. The food overall was good. There was no wow factor. It was bul gogi in a tortilla with some spiced up pan chan. The chicken was better, and the pork was the best due to the spice factor. I wanted to love it, partially due to all the hype of food trucks and Korean tacos, but I only kind of liked it. It was good. At two bucks it’s a great(outside the) bar snack. But I would not go out f my way to find these tacos. As a «mobile food vendor» I think you need that«I will find/follow you wherever you go» fever. They’re not there yet, but I think with some spicing up of the truck and the food they could hit t big. I need to fly to LA and find Koji Taco… the quest continues…
