The was our first time and the only place we will go to for our dining experience. Our server Daniel C was beyond incredible! He treated our 2 daughters like royalty and make every moment count. The food was delish but having that amazing service was definitely the best! I don’t ever Unilocal, but had to because a tip Was not sufficient to express our experience! 20 stars! Daniel C 100 stars!

Very poor overall — waited 15 minutes for drinks to come after ordering, side order came as a starter not with mains as requested and main order was incorrect — catalogue of errors from start to finish! Only saving grace is that the food was very nice.

Sorry to say but very expensive definitely not worth going to at all! A) they charge for refills and believe me my family and I eat out almost everyday I’ve never seen a restaurant that charges for refills on there drinks B) on your tab they charge 19% on top of your bill and that’s a «service charge» again I’ve never seen that before in my life and that’s not a tip for the waiter? I was told that it wasn’t I understand that S. F has some kind of employment tax that the customer pays for which is a few dollars but not $ 30.00 Sorry to say but hopefully the owner realizes how to appreciate his customers and gets to keep them and not scare them away with there outrageous upkeep Won’t see us back ever again and most definitely will let everyone that I know not to go there!

Stopped here while on vacation. No complaints, but nothing to rave about. Good service, food was good prices were obnoxious but that is to expected in this part of the city.

We ordered a 20 $ fish dish«basa». That I think was a code name for tilapia. We were sick with indigestion for the next 36 hrs on top of a big service charge for a sub standard meal. We left a cash tip for the server as well since she said that none of the service charge would go to her… which when we complained to the hostess, said it was to treat all the staff well. We felt ripped off and our last day in SF became one not to remember. Enough said! Thumbs down.

Bathrooms were disgustingly filthy! Nothing like sanitary napkins over flowing out of trash cans next to toilets while your going to the bathroom. Yuck! Expensive, and that 19.5 service charge added to the bill, along with the 10% tax… WOW!

Let me start by saying our server, Sherrie, was great. My girlfriend and I stopped in here during her first visit to Pier 39. Ordered oysters(which were good), bread, the pasta de frutti marine and the filet of basa. The food came out at the appropriate time but the filet was heavily over-sauced. My girlfriend gave me a piece and I’ve had Panda Express that was sauced better. She didn’t end up eating it at all. Sherrie, our awesome server I mentioned before, asked if she wanted something else which my girlfriend declined. I’d like to say that this is where the story ended, but unfortunately it doesn’t. Kyle, one of the managers, came over to follow up. This was good. Rarely do I see management handle something like this directly. Unfortunately Kyle wasn’t tactful in his approach to the situation. He asked what was wrong with the food. My girlfriend explained, again, that the fish was over sauced. Kyle then followed up if she just didn’t like the dish. She confirmed that and he offered to comp the dish. His statements were a little aggressive and pointed, kinda like a defense attorney during cross examination. He then immediately started to clear the table without asking if we were done. Since my girlfriend hadn’t finished her meal, she was eating the bread we ordered. She explained we were still working on our food and he left. Again, this isn’t the end of this story. Kyle, while awkward, wasn’t overly pushy. That changed. Sherrie came up maybe 5 minutes later and stated she’d been told we were done and dropped our check. She again started to clear our plates. Again, we confirmed we weren’t done. Apparently Kyle had told her otherwise. This is where my opinion of Kyle and this restaurant changed. They were not busy, there were 5 open booths behind us. It felt like we were being pushed out after having a bad experience. We didn’t ask for a comped meal or even imply the expectation. We even stated we were happy to pay for the dish as it was what we ordered. It felt like Kyle was annoyed with our patronage. On a busy day I could see wanting to move customers out, especially after losing out on an entire entrée’s worth of revenue. That simply wasn’t the case. If anything, Kyle should’ve allowed us to finish our meal. I appreciate not being charged for food I didn’t eat but making us feel unwelcome as a result is unacceptable. Won’t be coming back for a future visit, which is a shame because the oysters and pasta were good. Poor management can wreck a business and hopefully this was just an off day for Kyle and not his standard of service.

Do not go to this place! There’s an automatic 19% service charge for bad food and service. I’ve never posted on Unilocal before, but this place is so bad that I had to write something about it. I ordered the Seafood platter, it was half«calamari» and a couple piece of fish and shrimps. Everything on the plate was made from FROZEN, nothing was fresh. The calamari is made of tiny RUBBER and SOGGY bread. Shrimps were the prepackaged stuff you buy at supermarkets. The fish wasn’t bad for frozen fish. Our server was unfriendly. You could see she didn’t care about our table. She came to our table 3 times in 5 minutes rushing us to get our orders in. Worst of all, there’s a 19% service charge!!! Do not waste your money here.

Save your money and go somewhere else. We spent almost $ 60 for an appetizer and two Pasta dishes during lunch time. One plate was too salty and the other was so bland. Service is pretty slow and the food comes out warm at best. The only good thing is the view. They charge tax and also another service charge which is ridiculous.

Several friends and I were in San Francisco for the weekend celebrating the engagement of two more friends. Everyone decided to go out to dinner at Fisherman’s Wharf. After muscling our way through the tourist filled crowd and being met with 90 minute wait times at a few other restaurants, one of the group stumbled on this one at the top of some nearby stairs. Swiss Louis said they could seat our large group of 10 immediately. Unfortunately, I didn’t check Unilocal prior to going inside. Not that I could’ve foretold what happened, but a three star rating on the Pier, for me, isn’t exactly a sign that says«come-on in.» Yes I am picky, but for«dinner on the pier prices,» you damn right I am. The restaurant arraigned a set of tables in an odd manner when a more convenient position was just a few feet away. Minor issue, but noticeable just the same to me and the rest of the group. The restaurant itself, is nicely decorated with beautiful views of the bay behind it. Unfortunately, given the position of our tables, that view wasn’t readily accessible without some twisting and leaning in your chair. For starters I ordered a strawberry lemonade. A few minutes later, the waitress arrived with our drinks — and mine. Served in a glass, as a fine dining restaurant should do. I took a quick sip while looking over the menu. The flavor of the strawberry lemonade was uncommonly flat. It had a powdered after taste and the savoriness of too much Grenadine. Obviously, it wasn’t very good. I’m guessing my assumption that a high end seafood and Italian restaurant on the Pier would have freshly squeezed lemonade and real strawberries is too much to ask for. Still relatively full from a big breakfast, nothing on the menu was overly appealing to me. I ended up waffling back and forth between a plate of prawns or crab cakes. Once I made up my mind on the crab cake appetizer, I put my menu down and engaged in a quiet conversation with the soon to be newlyweds. Everyone else was still looking over the menu and discussing what they wanted to order. While they were, I leaned to the side in my chair to enjoy the setting California sun. It was a beautiful mix of crystal blue sky, with a pale orange and soft yellow hue. It was a reminder why California is referred to as the«Golden State.» The light from outside the window was bouncing off the ice in my glass and caught my eye. It was very surreal and what I thought was a great day of gorgeous San Francisco weather melting into the sunlight and banking off the ice in my glass. Think of how a diamond sparkles in the sunlight. That’s the image I was working with. Toward the bottom on my glass, the light circled and slid down the side of a uniquely shaped piece of ice. My eyes gravitated toward it. Depending on how the ice moved in the glass, it looked weird. At times it looked like a piece of ice and at other times, like a thin white slice of onion. My curiosity got the better of me and I dipped my spoon into the lemonade to pull up this odd shaped ice. My friend Lex asked what I was staring at. I told him about the oddly shaped ice in the bottom of my glass. His soon to be bride, Jackie, looked across the table. They both could see it. I started to pull it up when, almost at the top, it looked like a piece of shaved ice. I dropped it back down into the glass. Maybe my grandparents, father and other family members who’ve long since gone were telling me to look again because the light hit it the same way as it fell back to the bottom. I stared at it for another second, then stuck my spoon back inside the glass determined to see what it was. When my spoon, with the oddly shaped ice, reached the top of my glass, I stared at it in horror, disbelief and with a surging swell of anger in my chest. It was a large piece of broken glass! When I say large, I mean LARGE. I remember saying something so unclean, the Unilocal editors would no doubt edit my comments if I repeated it here. The waitress arrived and asked what was wrong. I showed her the broken shard of glass in my hand. She immediately apologized, asked if I was ok, and then got the manager. The manager came over, asked if I was ok and apologized as well. I got up and walked away to calm down. As a group we stayed and ordered our meal. The crab cakes looked nothing like what crab cakes are supposed to look like. Horrible. Jackie got a glass of water that had something floating in it. Lastly, after finding the glass in my drink, you’d of thought I would’ve gotten comp’d on my meal. I wasn’t. Only after several minutes of complaining did the manager remove the charges. I would give this place a fat zero, but Unilocal won’t let me. Given the other reviews of poor service and bugs in food, they deserve it. Actually they should be closed or at least have frequent visits by the health department. So as you can tell, I can’t recommend this place for anything more than a strong stay away.

I haven’t had that many wonderful experiences with restaurants on the pier but I have to say that Swiss Louis was incredibly refreshing. The ambiance/décor are stunning but not so ‘elegant’ that you’d feel inappropriate stopping in for happy hour in jeans and a cardigan. The view of the bay(inclusive of Alcatraz, the sea lions, and the Golden Gate Bridge) was breathtaking. My friend and I had to stop conversation for a minute to appreciate it and we are by no means new to views of the bay. We were hosted at the bar by ‘Dione’(I apologize if I incorrectly spelled the name) and he was a pleasure to speak with; funny and charming but never unprofessional. He offered us a full menu when asked(I wanted a seafood appetizer which wasn’t present on the happy hour menu) and was incredibly knowledgeable when asked about the dishes. I asked for the crab cakes(which I made sure to ask if they were canned crab and he told me they definitely were fresh) and could accurately describe what we would be in store for with the dish. It was DELICIOUS and WELL worth the asking price! The cocktails were SUBLIME and, though they sported fruity inclusions, were mixed expertly and tasted so smooth! I admit I had two more than the one I was planning on! Overall, the total experience was wonderful and I definitely look forward to being back. The prices are BEYOND reasonable for the quality of product and service you receive! Thank you again ‘Dione’! :)

Second time coming to Swiss Lous, encountered the same type of lazy service. Had to ask for my refills, had to let them know I was ready to order. This time, I was fortunate to find something extra special in my Chicken Alfredo. I’m a fly the size of a quarter! Management tried to say it flew in, but it was clearly food and served in the food. They removed the food from my ticket, but only to add a $ 15 service charge at the end. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone…

After walking from the Ferry Building to Pier 39, I was looking for a place to stop for a nice refreshing beer. It was later in the afternoon and I saw that Swiss Louis had their happy hour menu posted outside. After peaking in, I noticed the bar had a nice view of the water and decided that this would be my stop. There were three wait staff at the bar and the restaurant was pretty dead. They were very slow servicing the guests at the bar. The view was decent and the happy hour made up for the lack of service.

Fancy pants Italian at Pier 39, but because most are in their poop walk attire, fancy pants are not even necessary to this business. To my delight: No, no! — this is NOT a tourist trap restaurant! The thing has been around since 1936, and amounts to a proud family business. It just happens to be pricey because it’s so darn good. We had Crab Enchiladas, Steam Mussels and Clams, Basa Fish Filet, Breaded Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Marsala — all signatures of first-class quality. Scoops of wine & garlic broth and marinara is what elevates them. They have an esteemed wine cellar that pairs well with their bay oysters. But as a refresher I strongly recommend the Bison Organic Honey Basil Beer, which has trademark true taste. Located upstairs on the wood walk, the windows peer a view of the harbor boats and bay waters. I was also very elated by our exuberantly friendly waiter. I hope you all can be as lucky as we were. #classiceats

Besides being on the water and having a beautiful view, everything else fell short of my expectations. I started with the steamed clams in clam juice, garlic, & butter. The broth was light with no flavors. I order this appetizer a lot from different restaurants and it always comes with some type of bread to dip it in the broth. Theirs did not come with any bread. Really? I mean come on now… I would have taken a piece of Wonder White Bread on the side. That’s — what? 10 cents? For my meal, I ordered the Spaghetti con Frutti di Mare. Fresh clams, mussels, calamari, and prawns in a light garlic tomato sauce. The sauce tasted like it came from a can. The entire dish lacked seasonings and the presentation was sloppy. Also, they were a little light on the sea food portions. I probably would not be complaining that I was still hungry when I left if they would have thrown in some Wonder White Bread;-) I’m just saying… To top it off, the service was not acceptable. Our waiter appeared annoyed to be working, confused, and overall not friendly. It doesn’t cost anything to smile. I had to flag him down a few times for water refills. As much as I like the view, I will not be back to this restaurant. This gets a 1 out of 5 Tadows!

went with my partner here for our tenth anniversary. If I had one word, it’d be «eh». Stunning view and a couple delicious appetizers(ordered half-cracked crab and a prawn cocktail). The service was okay. Nothing special. He wasn’t a happy person, but he wasn’t rude… Moving forward: My partner ordered the seafood platter and it was very bland. Needed a lot of lemon… But NOT as bland as my spaghetti with meat sauce… I put a gallon of Tabasco and still tasted nothing. The meat sauce was so boring, oh my god. This was the most boring spaghetti of my life. I didn’t take it home because I woulda had to buy some meatballs, cheese, probably some prego woulda helped. I told my partner, what matters is our ten years together, so I still enjoyed my time here and the view, cuz a bad meal is not gonna mess up our anniversary.

You will get what you’d expect from the most touristy spot in the city. Not pleased with the service, they were just aiming to churn out customers rapidly to fit everyone in. Unfortunately, you felt it in the service. The waiter made multiple mistakes, was obviously flustered and unfortunately it came out through his attitude towards us. Do not get the New England clam chowder, it is heavy and thick on cream and lacks clams or other ingredients. We likened it to having room temperature Alfredo sauce. The linguine with clam sauce, which I substituted with pesto sauce, was decent. The red snapper was also pretty good but they forgot the mashed potatoes. We didn’t want to frazzle our waiter more so just let it go. While the dishes were okay, they would have been justified at about ¾ the price.

We were at Pier 39 and it was mid afternoon and we were hungry for a late lunch. Many of the restaurants seemed busier but we went upstairs and found this one that was quieter and had windows for an ok view too. We were seated right away by one of the few hostesses at the front. The table was a little close to the one next to us and there wasn’t much room for the server to get to their table and I sat as close to our table as possible. It can also get noisy from conversations around so I don’t think I would like it during busy meal times. Luckily for us the table beside was cleared shortly after we sat down. Our server brought us sourdough bread which I wasn’t a fan of. We ordered a started of calamari to share. It was soggy and not very good. Wouldn’t order it again. We all wanted seafood and the crab cakes on the appetizer side caught my eye. I was thinking of getting that and a salad. When I asked the server how many came with the meal, she said 2 but I could also order the dinner portion which was 3 with vegetables but it wasn’t on the menu. That sounded like the perfect size so I went with that. The food took about 15 – 20 minutes to arrive but we weren’t in a rush. The crab cakes were of decent size and I liked the amount of crab used to make it. It was very tasty and left me feeling satisfied and full. Our server was new to San Francisco and wasn’t able to answer a question I had. But she was very friendly and provided great service. We enjoyed our seafood meal and the ambiance of the restaurant.
