As a local, I’m telling you, their are much better options near by. Normally I order from Crab Shack #2, but we wanted to get out of the cold so we tried here. I ordered the fish and chips, and was given something similiar the Gordons Frozen fish sticks. My wife ordered Shrimp alfredo, and her plate was weak also. Waiters outside the breezeway shout and hustle to get you to come inside. How bad was my plate? I refused it after a few bites, and went outside and ordered off of the CS#2 cart, put it in a paper bag and ate inside the restaraunt while the rest of my family finished up. While the décor is nice, the food is subpar at past for SFO. A tourist trap at its finest.

Seafood is fresh and cooked really well! The pasta is a little overdone, but if you’re here for the seafood which you should be, you’re in for a treat!

First time in town super exticted, was craving a chowder bread bowl & calamari. The soup temperature was perfect the taste was beyond amazing so fresh the best I’ve had. Also had a Mix grilled special. My mouth water when the plate hit the table the smell was wonderful. Loved it here clean nice small spot. Can’t wait to come back & enjoy more of San Francisco delicious dishes.

After our wine-tasting ventures, we decided to waltz around Fisherman’s wharf for the sole reason it was so close by. But, what’s a trip to Fisherman’s wharf without having clam chowder? So many choices, our final decision was purely random — no second thoughts whatsoever. The manager(or an employee) of Sabella & La Torre stood by the door as potential customers walked by, greeting them, reaching out for some attention to their restaurant. Buzzed and still full from our late lunch, with a why-not attitude, we both agreed to go inside and ordered clam chowder in a bread bowl. We sat at the bar which was half filled up with diners and they were kind enough to give us 2 spoons without us asking, realizing ahead of time that we must be sharing. The clam chowder itself was pretty good and tasted quite fresh, however, I can’t really call it the best I’ve ever had. I’ll likely try a few other places nearby first, just to see if I can taste the difference between each stands’/restaurants’ variation of clam chowder.

Fisherman’s Wharf is quite the tourist trap, but that said, it’s still fun and cool to get some oysters on the half-shell and the infamous chowder in a bread bowl from a stand and chow down after a day of walking all over SF. The oysters at Sabella & La Torre, one of several seemingly identical places all in a row, were serviceable and the chowder was warm and filling. Just one of those things you gotta do at least once.

The food was alright. Service was spotty. But the turn off for me was having the booth closest to the bathroom and having to smell the chlorine/bathroom smell. I guess it could have been worse and just been bathroom odors. Haha. Would I return? Maybe the booth outside but we wanted to get out of the cold. Would I recommend. Not the sit down restaurant…

We ordered from the cart out front, not inside the restaurant. We also ate here twice. You may wonder why we came twice, but I am only giving it 3 stars. Well, if we only went once, this would be a 5 star review. However, the second time was a 2 star experience — at best. The first time we came was right about lunch. We ordered calamari and clam chowder. Oh, man, it was SO good. Seriously, some of the best chowder I have ever had… and we ALWAYS try the chowder wherever we go. Creamy, hint of butter flavor with just the right texture. The calamari? Killer. Hands down the best we have had. We couldn’t believe it. It was so good, we broke our own pledge not to eat in the same place twice while on our weekend away. The second time was around 9pm.(The carts are open until 10:45pm) The calamari went from great to ok, and the chowder… it wasn’t even the same. I mean, it LOOKED the same, but it was just a sad representation. Also, want is totally disappointing is the tatar sauce. It is the stuff you would find in a hospital cafeteria, in the little packets. Seriously, they should reconsider their sauces all around. Maybe a garlic aioli or something with a little kick. But, heck, I would settle for something that isn’t even worth putting on a Fish Filet at McDonald’s.

Quite simply: Delicious, fresh seafood. My kids had the shrimp and chips. Normally, shrimp is too tough for my young kids to chew. However, that wasn’t the case with their shrimp. My kids couldn’t get enough. The fries were good, too, but nothing extraordinaire. We also had a small cup of crab meat. It’s served with a wedge of lemon and some cocktail sauce. Tasted fresh, but keep in mind that we went in October and crab season hadn’t started yet. They probably got them somewhere else. Nonetheless, still awesome! With about 4 or 5 different choices for seafood in that row of vendors, and all selling practically the same thing, it can be tough to pick one. While I can’t compare it to the other places, I can say that Sabella & La Torre is a great option.

Our order: Beers, oyster shooters, dozen oysters, clam chowder, seafood louis, shrimp and crab special, kids fish and chips, crab shrimp and scallops over pasta. All very good! Fresh, large portions(had more than half of my salad and pasta for leftovers), reasonably priced. There was no wait for a table for 3 on a Friday night around 9pm. We were seated at a large booth in the center aisle. Our server was a very nice young man who was helpful, attentive and professional. Didn’t hesitate tipping 20%. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in the area to try more menu items as I was torn trying to decide. And they do validate parking, definite plus!

Came here this afternoon, and guess what I observed… The food stand attendant had latex gloves on… Good? No! He was literally taking cash payments, preparing the clam chowder bread bowl with the same pair of gloves!!! I even observed him thawing the frozen cocktail shrimp incorrectly, serving them in small cups, handling raw oysters, and again preparing the bread for the clam chowder all using one pair of gloves! TALKABOUTIMPROPERFOODHANDLINGANDCROSS-CONTAMINATION! I hope no one gets sick from eating at this food stand. I HAVE A VIDEOOFTHISEXPERIENCETHAT I WILLPOSTSOON!

Recently, I was strolling solo along the beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco when I happened upon that awesome row of yumminess where several vendors are lined up selling fresh shrimp cocktails, jumbo pieces of crab, raw oysters, and other seafood delicacies. I perused the various cold cases until I came upon the one at Sabella & La Torre, where I ordered a delicious crab cocktail, four fresh-as-you-can-get Pacific Northwest oysters(and I know this freshness, since I live mere miles from the shellfish farm), and a crispy cold bottle of Anchor Steam. I took my place with the other hungry tourists along the narrow little counter/eating area and munched away. Each bite was fresh and delectable. The cocktail sauce was spicy and paired perfectly with the crab. And the oysters(which, by the way, were only $ 2/ea — that’s cheaper than I can get ‘em here at home) were divine. If I’d had any room left in the old tummy-tum I would have ordered a bowl of their amazing-smelling New England clam chowder-in-a-sourdough-bowl. My only regret was that I had to leave to catch my plane, or I would have stayed longer!

2 stars because I was totally not impressed with the way the food tasted. I’m reviewing the restaurant portion(not the outside one they have). The service was really good, my waiter was really on top of it & the food came fast. I ordered a crab sandwich & clam chowder soup. My mom ordered a seafood mix salad kind of thing served with rice & steamed veggies. The clam chowder tasted like flour, according to my mom. I barely tasted a chowder or maybe I expected it so much to taste like Boudin. Basically it lacked flavor. I got a crab sandwich served in a Sour dough bread. It was very big, but to the extent it got messy to eat. And it was literally just crab meat with lettuce, a pickle & tomatoe. I kinda expected it to have more flavor as well not just the taste of crab meat, bc at most places I ate at, they would add a sauce flavoring or so. I tasted my mom’s seafood mix & it was basically just like steamed shrimp & scallops. Not impressed. Expensive as well even tho I know it’s sf, might as well eat at a more known place like Bubba Gump’s or Joe’s Crabshack for the same price.

This place is going to be a go-to for us … I’ve eaten seafood in a lot of fabulous places and this place knows what they’re doing. Pan-fried calamari was simply to-die-for and the fried clams were amazing and FRESH! The clam chowder was literally some of the tastiest any of us have ever had(we sopped up every last drop with the amazing sourdough). Our friends Crab Louie was heaped with fresh crab — amazing. Watermelon martini was the bomb! We will return! Again and again … Oh and Erwin was fabulous! Superb service!

Dirty, crowded, noisy, slow service. We ordered clam chowder insides at the table and it tasted like it was out of a can. Find somewhere else to go instead of here. We were disappointed.

Tucked away in a touristy cluster, this place is a legacy gem. I’ve had a solo dinner here at the bar, and the friendly staff sincerely made me feel welcome. Today I purchased fresh seafood to be delivered to Wisconsin as a Father’s Day gift. The owner was beyond helpful and explained the process to me. The shipping fee is a bit steep, but it’s fair for dry-ice overnight delivery. I’m so exited for my dad to receive his fresh crab, salmon, and shrimp!

Located right in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf, it is one of many seafood stands in the area. They are both a full-service restaurant and a food stand. Be aware though, if you choose to dine at the restaurant, everything will be a $ 1 or so more expensive. We chose to just grab some food at the stands instead of paying extra for the same stuff. The outdoor stand sells the usual pier grub(clam chowder, lobsters, oysters, fried foods, cocktails, sandwiches etc.) and thankfully the service is quick and efficient so the line moves relatively quickly. We ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl, calamari, and a cold crab salad sandwich. We got our food and moved to the side where they had some tables. Out of the three, my favorite thing was the bread bowl but I also think that it is very difficult to mess up clam chowder in a bowl. Their chowder however was quite delicious and like all bread bowls-extremely filling. That’s where the good news ends. The calamari while served hot and crispy, was basically all breading. We didn’t enjoy it all that much and ended up feeding a lot of to the seagulls flying by. However, the crab sandwich by far was the biggest disappointment. It just did not taste fresh at all and it really wasn’t seasoned right. We barely got through half of it and the only reason we did so was because it was not cheap. Overall, not my best food stand experience. The only thing worth buying here is the clam chowder bowl because that itself was filling and quite yummy. I would avoid everything else which is such a shame because fried seafood is so delicious. 2⁄5

I can rate the to Go thingy outside. That being said, their Crab Salad is fantastic. I pick it up for my mom and ask for all crab instead of the combo and it’s much better. She always has me ask for the same guy who always puts extra crab on. Delicious!
