Sunset has lots of produce, mexican & american groceries, mexican buns sodas, energy drinks, the usual grocery items. pricing evident, seem fair. buys: mexican pastries, 3/$ 1 –not so fresh, probably a day old. crumbs: –huge store, lots of diverse goodies –prompt, courteous service.

Um, no. Everything i bought(Bananas, Philipino Mangos, Normal Mangos, Apples) was ROTTEN. They looked fine on the outside but they were absolutely disgusting once I cut them open. Took them back the next day with a receipt and the lady said I must have left them out in the sun all day and refused to give me a refund or store credit. Will not go back; much prefer the produce market on 16th and Taraval whose stuff is always fresh and yummy.

Organic blueberries, 11 oz for $ 1.99?! Wowza, what a deal! Time to stock up! Excellent prices for staples and some less common foods. I come here to support the smaller produce retailers. I have noticed that in the past few months, this little neighborhood produce store has seen more business and higher volume of produce turnover, which means fresher food. Great for seasonal, usually high quality, fruits and veggies!

This seems to be a fairly basic produce market with no organic produce. The quality however seemed pretty good and the people who work here are very nice. I shop here sometimes because it is close to my house.

I would only get produce from this market– not the milk, not the cereal, not the bread. Why? They are all expired. I have seen countless past due expiration dates. On one of the soymilk cartons it said«Self PERSEVERE» Big whoops… but I do trust the fruits and veggies. They are fresh, come in from Fresno and are delicious and cheap! NOTE: $ 10 credit card limit

Love Sunset Produce. It’s cheap, they have a ton of stuff, and the staff are so nice! I go here often because I live right nearby, and their produce is fresher than the local Lucky store, and SOMUCH cheaper! A bag salad at Lucky = $ 3.99. A head of romaine, tomato, and some mushrooms here? $ 1.49 for all three. Can’t beat that with a stick. The peaches they currently have are intoxicatingly good, too. The store has more than just produce, including some Asian and Chicano(mainly) items such as ramen, lots of spices, seaweed, sauces, etc. They have a small aisle of convenience items and canned goods, and an aisle of desserts(packaged), chips, salad dressings, etc. In the back is a cooler with cool drinks and nectars, and in the front they have fresh salsa(Casa Sanchez), guacamole, cheeses and dips. No meat in the joint, but it isn’t a carneceria — it’s a produce joint. The sundry items could be a bit more robust, hence the minus one. But the staff are awesome — went in to buy some peppers for a chicken dish, and the woman working walked me through a recipe that produced great results! They’re very warm and personable, and that’s a key reason I like shopping there. Good place, check it out.

If you can’t see a pricetag, it may be the cheapest one. I have noticed that if the shop carries a variety of brands, the most expensive ones have prices facing out, and cheaper ones have tags hidden. First noticed on spaghetti. A 1# box was $ 3.29. A few items over, another brand in a slightly larger box was $ 2.69, but all the price tags were facing the back. I almost didn’t check, assuming they’d be more expensive. It’s nice to have«fresh» produce nearby, at a shop that is open relatively late. In-season produce here can be great, but I think the same eggplant have been on the shelf for several weeks now, and I know those beets have. Fresh tofu is available. As are dried fungus and spices. It’s a pretty respectable selection of dry goods. Cheeses and specialty items are pricey. But they have«ethnic» items with comparable prices to other places around town. Bleach here was cheaper than at the WalGreens across the street. I usually check Sunset Produce first before any of the other shops. And I end up coming back for there cheaper prices time and again. WalGreens gouges. Recently we stopped buying milk from this store because a weird taste gets sucked through the cardboard carton from their freezer. eww.

This is the closest grocery-type store to my house. Shopping for in-season produce here couldn’t be cheaper. Recent finds: $ 1.69 pineapples and $ 0.69/lb Roma Tomatoes. The dry-stock goods are(expectedly) pricey, but good in a pinch. Catering to the neighborhood’s residents, this market has lots of Asian vegetables. Credit cards can be used when you spend at least $ 10.

I used to work in a small produce store like this one, so I came in with high expectations. They were not met. The produce seemed a week old, the apples were squishy, and the peanuts I bought were the rejects. It might just be that I went on a sunday, but still it could be better. They have a pretty good selection of non-produce items, but really they need to step up their quality of fruits/veggies. The garlic has no taste at all, I looked at the package and it was from china, why when gilroy is right around the corner? I will go back on a weekday morning and see if its a little fresher, I hope so.

I sometimes walk up here when I’m in quick need of some fruit or veggies and don’t feel like driving anywhere else. They have a good selection of greens and some other interesting spices and stuff. They also sell these awesome tamales, can’t remember the name of the company that makes ‘em but they are local. The romaine lettuce here is huge and cheap!

I used to be excited about shopping here but there have been way too many occasions where I came back home feeling disappointed by either expired ramen noodles that were stale, or molding longans after the next morning or bruised and bad-tasting cherries which I paid a fortune for. The apples and oranges I bought on a few occasions were tasteless and blah too. So, now I’m really hesistant to walk in this place unless I’m in desperate need for a quick onion or potato.

Do you REALLY need everything that’s offered at those big superchains like Safeway and Albertson’s? Go and support your local mom and pop grocery store where the fruit is in much better shape and you can get everything you need. Sunset Produce is a no-frills grocery store which has a good variety of fruit, as well as other groceries for a good price. Nothing distinguishes it from the other fruit stands/grocery stores in the city, so support your local one and feel better with each bite you take.
