First timer here and was very pleased by the prices and quality. The Italian roast was very good and I also got a double chocolate chip cookie. 1 dollar and some change for the small coffee and $ 2 for the large cookie. Good quick easy in an out this morning before checking the waves.

My favorite Hong Kong-style bakeshop. Reasonable prices, wide variety of choice and yummy bread! I love their Hong Kong-style milk tea too! Another plus is that you can enjoy the warm bread in the bakery. Of course, you can take it away, but warm bread tastes better than the cool.

People who work there are very nice and they have a tin of great Irish baked goods. Pot pies, shepard’s pie, sausage rolls, scones, soda bread, etc.

I’m so happy I discovered this bakery. Everything I ordered was so good and also very affordable. All of their baked goods are so fresh. You can see and smell them baking in the kitchen. I got a box of egg custards, cocktail buns, and scones. I loved them all but the scones were the best I’ve ever had. I’m used to eating dry tasteless ones but these tasted like a biscuit. I got blueberry which was very moist and tasty. I will definitely be back!!!

wow, wow, wow! Now serving John Campbell’s goodies. We had the scones, the sheppard’s pie, the corn & beef pie and some random almond cake and it was all so good. I am so happy they are right here in the Sunset now. I also go there daily for my hong kong milk tea. Yum!

This has been a favorite local bakery all my life. Prices are very reasonable and beat out the other Asian bakeries in price. I always come here for fresh fruit cakes for birthdays and special occasions. They can do special cake orders 24 hours in advance or if you call them to hold a cake, they will wait for you to pick it up that day. Their egg tarts are my favorite: thick, but flaky crust with generous filling. They won’t have as many choices as bigger bakeries, but if you’re looking for simple cakes or reasonable prices, you should come here!

I am an absolute FIEND for Chinese bakery style ham and corn buns. I don’t know why, but I absolutely love the creamy corny hammy taste mixed surrounded by that soft, sweet Asian style bread. This place has the good stuff, and it’s big and delicious with decent amount of ham and corn filling in the center. I’ve visited this bakery a handful of times now, and everything I’ve gotten from them was warm, fresh, and delicious. Some of my favorites are hot dog buns for lunch, or pineapple buns for a treat. They do run out of some items some days, like my beloved ham and corn buns., but their popular pineapple buns seem to always be in stock. Above all those points above, it’s a great value too. I can basically buy myself a lunch as well as pastries/baked treats to last me 2 – 3 days for only a handful of dollars. This is pretty standard for Chinese bakeries, but In a city where a meal costs upwards of $ 10+ just about everywhere now and even a food truck sandwich can go for $ 15, living near this place is a godsend for me. I hope they stay around in the neighborhood!

This is the closest Chinese bakery by my house and although I avoided for many years I realized I was missing out! Prices are fair compared to other places but the only thing lacking is their supply. They don’t make too much of and item which makes sense but that means you gotta go early to get what you want. Everything taste good so far except their donuts.

The shop is near my house. It is between 40th and 41st avenue. The environment is nice and the staff are so kind. You can not use credit card. Cash only. They offer many kinds of cakes, bread. We ordered a small strawberry cake. $ 2.5. It tastes good. It really deserves a try.

I always drive past this place, but i’v never walked in here until this weekend. I found out that they have a Chestnut cake here! I love chestnut cakes and it’s pretty good here, it’s just as good as the ones in Sheng Kee. I also got the pineapple bun with red bean inside along with a regular pineapple bun. All of it was really good. It was fresh and fluffy and not too overly sweet. I would like to come back to this bakery for more goodies!

Sweet Passion Bakery is one of those places frequented by locals who live in the neighborhood only bc it’s there. I must admit, I have stopped by a few times for something quick bc I was too lazy to drive farther to get something better. It’s walking distance from friend’s house and the only Chinese bakery in those few blocks. I would never go out of my way to buy anything from SPB bc it’s not a destination spot. Each time, I go into SPB with low expectations. It’s cheap and you pay for what you get. The lady at the counter is like the soup Nazi on Seinfeld. She never smiles and barks at people. When you get to the counter, you better know what you want bc she has very little patience. When they’re sold out of certain items she almost gets mad that you asked for something that’s unavailable. How was I supposed to know? The little shop is old, outdated and quite frankly a bit dirty. I wouldn’t want to eat there. They do have a few little tables set up that are usually occupied by some senior citizens who appear to be regulars, who probably live down the street). There are two glass cases — one for cakes and one for breads/buns. I personally never bought any of their cakes bc they just look nasty. I’m not surprised other Unilocalers mentioned having bought their stale cakes. As far as the buns go, I don’t generally like the majority of their selection. There are only 3 things I’ve tried — the pineapple buns(both plain and with red bean filling) and the custard bun. The pineapple buns are fair. Do not try to compare to any pineapple buns you’ve had in HK or even Sheng Kee. It won’t compare. The custard bun, however was horrible. The custard was not right. The other half always gets the cocktail buns but he doesn’t have much of a discerning palette. Buns are $ 0.60-$ 0.80 so I do feel a little bad that I’m complaining about it. I guess the bottom line is, don’t go to SPB with much expectation.

The worst pineapple bun I have ever had comparing to the ones I tried at the bakeries in Hong Kong. The pineapple crust is supposed to be fluffy and bun is chewy, however, theirs are dry and not fluffy at all. The BBQ pork pastry is sub par. The pastry is so oily and underbaked while the BBQ sauce has weird taste. I just threw up and dumped it. Egg tart is ok. Egg roll has too much cream in it, and the cream is yucky due to too much unmelted sugar.

What a great find, many thanks to my Unilocal Gold Elite buddy, «Victor G» for his excellent review here( ). Otherwise, I would have never found this place. Sweet Passion Bakery exudes«hole-in-the-wall.» It is located between 40th/41st on Taraval in the Sunset District, right across Walgreens. The atmosphere here is what you would expect for an Asian bakery, but the surprise came from their pineapple crunch bread and peerless coffee. It was sooo good, crunchy on the top, and light but not dry on the inside. The other surprise was their coffee. Usually from past experience, Asian«hole-in-the-wall bakeries coffee taste like diluted water. Not here, their coffee was smooth and bold. Double awesomeness! Customer service was fantastic. There are two ladies that works at this bakery. I think mother and daughter? Both were very enthusiastic and super friendly during my several visits. When you find yourself in the Sunset district craving for a pineapple crunch bread and a wholesome atmosphere, look no further, and pay a visit to Sweet Passion Bakery. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

Ok… I’ve only tried their coconut tart and it was still warm, fresh out of the oven. It was delicious. I will have to try some of their other items to fairly rate them. They did not look as attractive as in some other bakeries but only taste will tell. So far A+ for the coconut tart.

Sweet Passion Bakery was a pleasant surprise near the beach. they have the usual offerings of buns, chinese pastries, cakes, pricing seem reasonable. not al cheapo like chinatown, probably less than sheng kee brew: french dark roast(sm, 1.25) peerless coffee –has character, smooth. –so unexpected in a chinese bakery 4 stars for coffee 3ish for the baked items, didn’t try any. drips: –friendly, fast service.
