I love Orphan Andy’s. It’s my to-go for real late night dinning. Our server Shane is always very nice to us and gets us what we need. Definitely the better alternative to Mel’s, Denny’s or iHop in the late hours. Killer internet jukebox and it’s always amusing what characters come in to eat. Warning, space is limited and you might end up in a line for a while

I’m a Unilocaler Virgin. I know, a total dinosaur but thanks to my kids and South Park hear I am in the 21st century. This past December my son and I took our first trip to San Francisco together and spotted this charming spot. Now, we are New Yorkers, which is the Capital of Diner Heaven so you know we have an attitude about everything(especially diners) My son is 15, your typical picky PIA teenager. so even getting him to enter an establishment other than McDonalds is a challenge . As I dragged his starving ass in we were greeted by this lovely gentleman(I wish I remembered his name because he made us feel welcome and inspired my son to eat real food) Ok, I’m old I have CRS(can’t remember Sh*t) My son had the grill cheese and fries and I had the best homemade chicken soup ever, sorry mom. My Moms Jewish, need I say more. The gentleman that waited on us(I believe was the manager) actually took the time to share his personal experiences as a San Franciscan , the history of the Castro and Orphan Andy’s. I am ever so grateful to him in sharing this wonderful moment with us. We actually enjoyed ourselves and forget that we are supposed to annoy one another, based on our genetic link . The ambiance, staff and food at Orphan Andy’s is just wonderful. Remember, is a diner so if your expecting Bobby Flay(yuck) to come out and whip you up something you cannot pronounce, walk on by and don’t let the door hit you in the ass. We loved our experience so much that we returned to Orphan Andy’s on our last day in San Francisco. We will be back! Thanks, Stacy and Ezra

The Castro Street area of San Francisco has two 24-hour restaurants. One of them, Orphan Andy’s, has been there for several decades and is a beloved fixture of the neighborhood. The food at Orphan Andy’s might be described as good«comfort food» — not fancy, but well-prepared and of good quality. Most of my meals there have been lunches and breakfasts, so I’m can’t comment on their dinner offerings. Portions tend to be rather large, so I often have to take a «doggy bag» home for later consumption. Orphan Andy’s is often quite busy, but the noise level is not obnoxiously high even when the place is full. Prices at this restaurant have risen quite a bit during the past several years, thanks to the influx of high-paid techies into the city, but are not at all outrageous. My favorite dishes? Meatloaf. Biscuits & Gravy. Tuna Melt Sandwich.

After going out with my friends, we decided to go here just because it was one of the few restaurants that was open 24 hours. We waited about 20 minutes in line and about another 15 minutes for our food. The service was very slow so I don’t recommend coming here after 2−3am. The food I got was breakfast bagel. It was alright. Nothing special except it was over priced. Would I come back here again? Hmm. I don’t know…

Worst service I’ve had in years. I can appreciate slow service when things are busy but the owner was rude. He practically tossed the plates on the table. The food was nothing special. I won’t return and suggest you don’t give this business your money.

Cozy little spot to sober up after a evening of raging. –Service is good. –Food was great, but I was pretty buzzed, so a piece of cardboard might have tasted like French Laundry to me.

Open 24⁄7!!! The place is kind of small with a few tables and bar seating. The menu has a variety of food ranging from breakfast(eggs, bacon, sausage etc) to burgers and dessert. I came here at 4am to eat a chicken steak burger and fries. The food here is okay, service was good, and it’s definitely better than going to Mc Donald’s late at night. Average price for a plate was $ 10 and up. Overall, great variety of food and open 24⁄7!

This spot is open 24 hours! Small and quaint restaurant on Market. Friendly staff and neat little decorations. Typical diner with a nice counter and various booths. You’ll find a variety of menu options including breakfast, sandwiches, and some entrees. Hearty serving sizes and price is pretty reasonable for the city. Great spot!

A must– go-to restaurant in $F! The decorations on the ceiling are amazing, the staff is amazing, AND the food is delicious! I got biscuits and gravy with chicken sausage, yummy and affordable. Would recommend to anyone to check this place out.

This place is filled with SF charm in this diner themed restaurant from the decorations(currently holiday themed) to the waiters to the lively ambiance. Food was great. I got the 4 piece fried chicken for $ 14. It came with a salad which was the same size as a regular entrée and mashed potatoes and gravy. They poured the gravy right in the center of the mashed potatoes. My only complaint is that my favorite part of the chicken(the drumstick) was tiny but they did give me 4 pieces so the portion was the right amount. Super conveniently across the street from the Castro muni station and this place is open 24⁄7!

So much old school yum in a little space served by a friendly face. That about sums this place up perfectly. Good diner food at a fair price served by someone nice. This is hangover destination número uno for me. I haven’t had the entire menu. Pictures don’t matter. If you’re worried about such things, you don’t understand what a diner is. Come. Have a seat. Eat. Smile.

Walked in here last night with the wife and sat at the counter. The food was great! We started with mozzarella sticks that came out very fast and then the fish and chips and a breakfast plate. The portions are huge! All the food came out quick and was really good. I am writing this review because we were extremely satisfied with our server! Eric! Eric was great! He was very on point with everything, very attentive to all the customers though the restaurant was full and did his job with a very happy attitude. Very cool! Be back soon!

I found out what happened to the Soup Nazi after he left Seinfeld. He moved to San Francisco and got demoted to waiter. He hated our very existence! We simply weren’t worthy of Orphan Andy’s. That said, the food is pretty good for a diner. They did a great job on the fries and the tuna melt, and the dessert we had(Hawaiian cake) was awesome. The soup nazi warmed up by the end of the meal and was actually almost pleasant. Still, with so many other places within a stone’s hurl of our water’s shade, I’d rather eat elsewhere.

I love a good diner. I like sitting at the bar and eating overly buttered toast. So this one does well. The place is tiny and they get busy so you’ll have to chill and wait. The guy behind the counter was super friendly too and took time to chat with folk as they came in. What was interesting was there’s a ton of folk from out of town here. I’m not sure how they find this place but it seemed like half the crowd on a Sunday morning was from out of the country. Me? I had two eggs over easy with toast and home fries. The fries I didn’t like so much but the eggs and toast were nicely done… who doesn’t like a runny egg yolk and crunchy toast ya?

A great diner with really sweet servers. The food is consistently good, good portions and it’s open 24\7 a San Francisco staple for getting ur grub on.

I was pleasantly loaded, and taken by surprise that bars closed at 2am. Well there was Orphan Andy’s open 24 hours so I stumbled in and sat at the bar and stuffed my face and had a fun conversation with a supposedly straight man sitting next to me, who told me a series of hilarious dirty jokes that I absolutely cannot remember. I’d almost drop a star because it wasn’t my favorite best Monte Cristo sandwich. It was the kind made with french toast instead of the kind where the whole sandwich is battered and deep fried. But it was 2 am and I was drunk so they get 5 stars! I wished the next day that I had tried some of their house-made pie.

Orphan Andy’s does’t pretend to be anything its not. What it does well, is good, cheap food. The ultimate convience between 2am and 11am when everything else is closed. A mountainous double cheeseburger and friends for a low price, yes! Good, cheap dinner food at 3 am is exactly what I want, and they deliver. And their mozzarella sticks are good too! They are one of the few places open 24 hours(sans a few hours on Tuesday for maintenance). Truly a historical Castro gem.

Both times I’ve been to San Francisco I’ve eaten here and I don’t know, maybe because we’re both Andy, but I love this place. First off– it’s pretty damn small so if it you time it wrong, like peak breakfast time or when it’s closing time at the bar, you’re going to have to wait. I’ve always been sober when I’ve eaten here and I can only imagine how much better it tastes when you’re drunk. I mean, it tastes great sober so it has to be epic when you’re drunk. They sell t-shirts. I had to get one, It says Andy, duh. The breakfast food is killer as expected. The home fries especially. Huge hunks of potatoes. Let’s not forget the service which is great. A bunch of very nice guys work there. They know how to run this place. They know how to get you in and out without rushing you or making you feel unwanted. Next time I’m in town, I’ll surely be back. I have to support my namesake.
