This is my fave place to go on a weekend morning: it’s a little busy most of the time, but it’s a cosy little spot to have breakfast with my boyfriend. My favorite is the California scramble, and my boyfriend really likes the corned beef hash. Scratch that: he pretty much just likes everything. The food is pretty good and decently priced, and I like how they don’t cheat you on the avocado(other places be like: «we have avocado!» And then proceed to give you one tiny piece.) Free coffee refills, yum. I like how the workers seem to be all working hard and together, and while not overly friendly they’re pretty polite, and try to get the food quickly to you.

Found this place when I left my Dr.‘s office. I wanted something sweet & a latte. The donut shop had a mirror effect that caught my eye. Directly across the street was New Taraval Café. I figured the coffee & something sweet would cost at least $ 5 – 6. I ordered pancakes & coffee. Cost me altother $ 6 that’s including the tip. The food is good & fulfilling. I always feel satisfied. Mary is always on top of making sure your coffee is full. I believe two of her kids have taken over. Mary & her husband were very nice. Always had a smile? & the food was Great. Miss you mucho Mary

Cash only! Stopped by for the first time this weekend, and I enjoyed the food. It definitely has that small, casual diner atmosphere. There are a few booths, several small tables, and several bar seats. It seems to fill up quickly on weekends, as I waited in line for roughly 15 minutes before being seated, so definitely put your name on the sign-in sheet right by the door. After being seated, we waited another 20 – 25 minutes before getting our food. Given that this is a small place, it seemed like a long wait, but there is only one cook(and the flat top grill is right near the entrance so you can watch him as he cooks.) I wish the process could be somehow streamlined so that they could get orders out more quickly, but as it is, I would just recommend not coming here if you’re in a rush. On to the food — we ordered the country scramble and the steak and eggs, both with potatoes. The food is simple and hearty, and portions are very filling so you definitely get your money’s worth. Overall our dishes were both well done, but if I had one gripe I would say I think the potatoes could be improved with more salt. They’re pretty bland. However, I LOVE the crustiness they achieve, so I’m more than willing to season them myself(salt, pepper, hot sauce, sriracha, etc. are all available at each table and at the bar.) Anyway, this is a very solid neighborhood joint, perfect for when a greasy breakfast craving hits(or sweet — their pancakes and french toast looked pretty good too!) I’ll be back :)

This place serves ok food but the customer service is exceptional. The price is very good and reasonable and the food is served fast! There’s a good amount of options, but for some reason this isn’t my first to-go place for food. Nothing about it pops. But they’re good at what they do.

Tiny locals place in San Francisco. When I went there was a line to get in… and it took about 25 minutes to get inside. The menu is nothing to rave about, no special items… or OMG food items. This is a solid café for eggs, pancakes, breakfast meats… etc. While waiting in line… watching their cook, prepare orders in the small space he had was hugely entertaining. It was like watching a juggler in action… and amazing how quickly he was able to prepare so many different things. All I can say is the food was good… reasonably priced… actually, for San Francisco… it’s actually a good deal… probably one of the cheapest breakfasts I’ve paid for and left feeling full. Great place.

Skip this place it’s a waste of time and money. Forgettable food and extremely slow service. Had to wait for a table. Then after finally getting a seat took almost 40min to get an egg scramble. Food is awful. Potatoes not seasoned at all. Veggie egg scramble was a watery mess. Just avoid it and go down the street to Tennessee Grill or Copper Kettle.

I ordered the breakfast special with pancakes, eggs over easy, and bacon. The bacon was on the dry side, but the eggs were done perfectly and the pancakes were buttery and fluffy — exactly how they should be! Staff was also very friendly and really trying to make conversation with all their patrons. House coffee is nothing special though. But, all in all, a solid square breakfast. The restaurant, itself, has the atmosphere of an old style diner which is fun and cozy, but not exactly a place I would take my friends to enjoy a good brunch in the city. The exterior of the restaurant is also less than welcoming in my opinion, comparing it to other places in the city that have similar price points and atmosphere. $ 6.80 for breakfast special and coffee.

First of all, two fluffy pancakes, two eggs any style, and two pieces of crispy bacon or breakfast sausage for $ 5. FIVEDOLLARS plus tax. They have soy sauce, SPAM(what, I’m originally from Hawaii, don’t judge me), and rice instead of hash browns if you ask. Tapatio, Crystal, Soy Sauce, AND Siracha on the table.
BEATTHAT, BOUGIEBRUNCHPLACESINTHEOUTERSUNSET. And also BEATTHAT, TENNESSEEGRILLDOWNTHESTREET. Hash browns are not crispy like you’d expect however, so if that’s your thing, get the rice or fruit instead. Second, this is a greasy spoon, which, is, according to Wikipedia, «a colloquial term for a small, cheap restaurant or diner typically specialising in fried foods.» Now add the local business, same regulars every week, neighborhood joint-style«guys who work here know your name and ask you if you want your usual» descriptors to your typical greasy spoon.(Seriously, their memory is uncanny) Add all that up, THEN it becomes a neighborhood gem. I wouldn’t wait in line for this place for the food(you can go to the bougie brunch places in the outer sunset for that), but rather for the welcome you get every time you walk in the door. More importantly, you can linger over your newspaper here, and they never rush you. They get you your check when YOU ask for it, not when they need for you to leave. Not many places around that are like that anymore.

Now this is the true definition of a no frills diner. Walked in and was immediately greeted by one of the friendly staff members which was a great way to start my experience here. I knew I was in store for a solid meal as every seat in the place was occupied, mind you this place is tiny and seats a maximum of about 30 people. There were a few people ahead of us so we put our name on the list for a table. Before I knew it we were seated and menus were placed in front of us. The prices are more than reasonable, seriously, where are you going to find a breakfast special consisting of 2 eggs your style, 2 pieces of bacon or sausage and your choice of 2 pancakes or toast for $ 4.50 before 10 am and $ 5 after? You can’t even get a breakfast sandwich at the so called«Golden Arches» for that much. It almost feels like you are getting over on them. But hey, I’m not complaining by any means. We received our grub and I went ham on my ham and cheese omelette. It was on point, a nice portion and was everything I expected. The other members of the group had the breakfast special and both were full before finishing their plates. We were checked on twice during our meal to ensure everything was up to par and we appreciated that. I will definitely be back, there is nothing better than knowing you contributed to a good ol’ fashion Mom & Pop’s restaurant and with a staff as friendly and appreciative as this one how can you not support them? Kudos New Taraval Café, keep up the great work!

To me, what makes a restaurant memorable isn’t so much about the food but the people who work there. Located in the busiest part of Outer Sunset lies a charming and friendly mom & pop diner. These people greet you with a genuine smile, makes sure everyone is taken care of, and patient for those who want to look at the menu a little longer. Generous in portion, their food is guaranteed to fulfill your morning cravings from pancakes and french toast to scrambled eggs to potatoes. They’re a prime example of what every mom & pop diners should aspire to be.

Great for a quick no frills breakfast. I had the Special with 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 pancakes. $ 4.50 Everything was cook perfectly and got there quick. Basically, this is a no frills 50’s style neighborhood spot. Go big n get the Hash or Irish sausage. The staff is friendly and competent as they come

Be warned, I have waited up to 20 minutes to be seated, but it has always been worth it out of the 3 times I’ve been here. A great mom & pop diner on Taraval. Don’t come here if you’re looking for a fancy designer brunch with artesian spa water and bloody Marys. This is not that kind of diner. This is a classic, consistent, and valuable member of the diner community with good quality food. I am not a coffee snob, but the understand how to brew a perfectly balanced breakfast blend(pun intended). Once you’re seated you get great service and just the right amount of personal attention. The intimate atmosphere generates a calm, inviting, and friendly place to eat. This is a cash only establishment, but the prices are hard to beat in San Francisco. I highly recommend.

Cheap breakfast, family owned atmosphere, and welcoming workers? Everything I love. I stopped by for some early morning breakfast and this place made my morning. $ 4.50 for a filling breakfast of 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, and pancake? YESPLEASE. You can tell that the workers here genuinely take their time to give you perfect service! I ordered coffee and the lady that worked here came back to refill my cup 2 – 3 times without me having to ask for more! The bacon was perfectly crispy and eggs were cooked well sunny side up. I would love to come here again for breakfast!

Came in for breakfast and it was a smart choice! There were only 5 people here when I walked in and I was helped right upon entrance. I found a spot to sit and placed my order promptly. This was my first time at this café and was glad that I found it. I normally would’ve gone to the Tennessee Grill that is a block down but it can get packed in there. At this place I could stretch out my legs and relax. That is how I like it. The crew that worked the morning that I came in were cool! The cook was super cool. He seemed to know everything about the operations of the café. I think he is the owner but not too sure. While I was waiting for my food I could smell the food, it was so good. When I was finally served my plate I was ready. The food was GREAT! Well cooked and the right about of meat and vegetables. Oh, this is a CASHONLY business so keep that in mind. There is a sign behind the counter below the clock. #goodstuff

Stumbled upon this spot one Sunday morning, I love discovering new mom and pop shops to try! This place had such a home-y feeling. You could tell they had a bunch of regulars too because the workers knew their customers by their first name. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated. The place was packed! It did take a little while to get our food but you could tell everything was being cooked as ordered. I had the pork chops and the boyfriend had one of the breakfast specials with french toast and eggs and sausage. We also ordered corned beef hash on the side. The food was yummy, it reminded me of comfort food. And the prices were very reasonable!

Honestly, it’s just what I expected. Basic food at reasonable prices. So I feel kinda bad only giving it 3-stars because I think they actually did exactly what they are trying to do. But, as Unilocal says: it’s «A-ok» and that is what 3 stars is for. Unfortunately we live in a world of crazy high expectations… As I said, basic food. Good size portions. Extremely reasonable prices. I know that in other parts of the country prices like these are normal, but when you see it in San Francisco, it takes you off guard. $ 15 for two breakfasts and one coffee. I tipped 33%, because, why not? They are cash only so come prepared. Very friendly staff. Small place with a neighborhood feel. Would I come back? If I feel like having some one make my eggs and toast for me? Why not. With visitors? Not so much.

This place is great. It is a really small resturant, but I have not experienced any wait time for a table. When I was working around here, I would always come here during my lunch. I love the corned beef hash. I love the bacon. I love the sausage. The portions are large, the service is friendly, and they remember who their return customers are. They are cash only, but their prices are really low. Especially if you come in early(before 10 am) and get the special for only four bucks! If you need cash, you can find an ATM or go to the Walgreens nearby and get cash back. This is definitely my go to place for a real, traditional, filling breakfast on a budget.

Wow! Cheapest breakfast place I’ve ever been to! French toast, bacon, and 2 eggs $ 6.50!!! Amazing! Altho the french toast wasn’t the best, its pretty good for the price. Orange juice was only $ 2! The guy that served us was nice and polite. Def will be back for cheap, filling food!
