Hey Unilocal: you need to update the health inspection score for D&A: 66 and not a 92. I’m sure Unilocalsters would like to know what is lurking in the kitchen regarding food safety and sanitation. One star for food safety and sanitation and 3 for the food and prices. Overall 2 stars

Good cheap authentic Chinese food. Yes it’s dirty… But the food is pretty darn good here. You can beat their happy hour deals. 9−11am, 3−6pm and 10-closing. You can get porridge or wonton noodles for around $ 4! Yes, service isn’t great but what do you expect. I don’t think any Chinese restaurant in the U. S has good service unless you’re at a high-end establishment like Hakkasan. My fav dishes are: Pepper salt spare ribs Lobster pan fried noodles(it’s only like $ 13 bucks too) Tomato pan fried noodles Pepper salted tofu Seafood porridge Tips for the restaurant… Don’t drag your trash cans through the restaurant during business hours. It’s unsanitary and disgusting. Wait till you close. –20 stars but the food is good so they get 3 stars.

No customer service here. Cheap ghetto chinese food. Dont ask for any lemons either because they will charge you $ 1 and give you the end pieces. But when you are getting cheap chinese food what do you expect.

Solid place if you want cheap Hong Kong-style food. I’ve been here several times and they have great HK milk tea and watermelon juice. I find service to be quick when I am simply ordering a drink to-go. However, dining in is a totally other experience. Do not expect stellar service as I’ve had to flag down the waitress several times. The food is OK — I love their wonton soup(without the noodles). Yesterday, I came and ordered a club sandwich which took 20 minutes while we watched as other tables receive their food before us. The sandwich and fries were lukewarm. Overall, I would stick to ordering strictly drinks and anything that comes with rice(oh, and wonton soup!).

Cheap restaurant to go to if you’re on a budget. They have a huge variety of food and ended up getting noodles with beef and bok choy. It felt greasy and I definitely felt unhealthy after eating it. Also, don’t expect great customer service here.

If you’ve gone through the process of stepping inside, getting seated, and checking out the 2 menus(sometimes 3) at D&A café and you’re expecting Top Chef-style eating I have nothing but crocodile tears for you. What you will get is a flash lesson in cheap ‘n’ dirty Hong Kong diner grub, from the delicious(fresh watermelon juice) to the bizarre(platefuls of big ol’ snails) to the completely inexplicable(their version of a club sandwich). Depending on how hungry you are, the food quality varies. That said, it’s cheap, it’s dirty, it’s rude, the meat quality is questionable… in short it’s authentic Cantonese. If I’m hungry — 5 stars for speedy service, free ‘whatever’ soup for dine-in orders and two scoops of rice with everything. I’m not hungry — 1 star for wandering servers, MSG, and glowing, gloopy sauce. I’m going to go with 4 stars because I live down the block and I live my life without expectations – like that anyone would recognize me at a place I go to for milk tea at least 1x a day. Pros: Prices crazy low. Mind-bogglingly cheap happy hour happens three times a day(???), Watermelon Juice is delish, seldom a wait. Cons: Crazy menu full of stuff they shouldn’t be serving at all, MSG, dismissive service, cash only.

If you want reliable and simple Chinese dishes, come here. My family has been coming here for a long time just because the prices can’t be beat, and everything tastes good. It’s nothing fancy to the average Chinese family. I’ve actually never seen this place get too packed that often. Once you come here, you’ll most likely find a seat. Came here with my parents around 6pm for dinner on Tuesday night. We ordered Cod w/Bittermelon in Black Bean Sauce, Seafood & Tofu Bowl, and Salt n Pepper Chicken Wings. TIP: Free refills for tea and white rice are provided at no extra cost. Tea, rice, and soup of the day is included. I love the bittermelon in black bean sauce. I actually eat more of the bittermelon than the cod. If you haven’t quite acquired the taste of bittermelon, I wouldn’t suggest this dish for you. The seafood & tofu bowl comes with fried tofu, shrimp, scallop, calamari, and fish soaked in a heavy sauce. The salt n pepper chicken wings taste really good and is worth your money! At least 10 pieces for $ 8? That’s better than most places that serve chicken wings. Some other things my family likes to order are Garlic Snow Pea Shoots, Pork Blood & Skin/Intestine, Minced Beef over Spinach, and Duck in Ginger and Green Onion Sauce. Happy hour from 3 – 6 is good as well. For food, people often get Salt n Pepper Tofu, Salt n Pepper Wings, Wonton Noodles or Beef Noodle, or their Porridge. For drinks, the Iced Lemon Tea, Iced Milk Tea, Red Bean Ice, and Watermelon Juice all taste really good.

They charge 10 cents more on their watermelon juice if you don’t want sugar… Some bs about it being special order. You get a 1 star for that 10 cent extra charge. But she gave us free soup, 4 Stars for the soup due to alcohol.

Food here is delicious Food here is cheap Food here is big Service here is bad Service here is nonexistant Service here is shit Would I eat here again? Yes. Would I bring my boss here? No. Would I bring somebody here on a date? No Do they deserve tip? No Do they deserve to stay in business? Yes Do they deserve more than 3 stars on Unilocal?Yes. Good cheap food here, I’ve been here numerous times and I will come back. But, there is a story I must tell you. One of the most unique experiences I’ve had at a restaurant. I came here with a friend for lunch, two dishes for like $ 6.95 each not bad. I asked for our cheque, they said they would bring it. But 15 minutes later nothing. I ask again, they say it’s coming. Another 15 minutes later, nothing. Mind you I was asking in cantonese, their native tongue. So I ask for the cheque one more time, they yell at me saying it’s coming and it shows up 15 minutes later. 45 minutes to get the bill. It was supposed to be $ 14 + tip. But I left $ 10 because that is what they deserve. As I was walking out they told me the equivalent of «hey what do you think you’re doing only leaving $ 10» in Cantonese. I told them to eat shit in Chinese and I walked out. Yes I have been back here multiple times after this incident.

They have specials from 11am-3pm. You can get a fixed menu of 3 items(specific on their list) for about $ 23. It’s ample food for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. We popped in for lunch. Tried the beef chow fun which came with bean sprouts and not a generous amt. sliced beef. It was good tasting. I ordered the fish with thousand yr. old egg jook $ 6. It was really watery and watered down, sort of bland. Good amts. eggs but only 3 large chunks of tender white fish. Also an order of egg roll, $ 4.75 for 4 — full of vegetables. One of mine was crispy fried but the middle was still cold. Flash fried but wasn’t warm enough. It’s sort of a hole in the wall. Do not expect great food but it will get you by for a meal. They have 3 TVs on the walls but only 2 were turned on. CASHONLY.

Cheap eats. Not the friendliest of service but it gets the job done. If you’re looking for HK-style eats, this is the place to be. They do a 3 for $ 22(I think). 3 dishes for $ 22 plus rice and soup. That’s a steal. Cash only.

This place is disgusting. nasty dried food on the walls and tables. Msg poured on everything, mediocre food that is frezzer burned… and lasty, uneducated, non-cultured, no shame waitstaff who rudely insult you if you are not Chinese… The woman/waitstaff had the audacity to call my coworkers and I ‘cheap’ after not leaving a huge tip. A tip is something that is given as a graditude on the service rendered. Yes that’s right you got your $ 3 because our bill was only $ 15. And, considering the lack of service we got, you should be thankful you even got that. Summary: simply disgusting, both food and restaurant. Think twice when when thinking about eating here and question why the food is so cheap. San Francisco Department of Health definitely needs to look into this place. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

My goto place for cheap and solid classic Hong Kong dishes. Opens late. Huge menu. You can practically ask for anything you want, even if it’s not on the menu, and they’ll make it for you if they can. Personal Favorite: Fish Fillet over Baked Rice + hot HK Milk Tea = Happiness Other reviews complain the place is dirty, but hey that’s how you tell they’re legit.

I like coming here… but then I also don’t like coming… There’s always a lot of people here so service will be slow. Got seated in a corner and OMG a group of flies was just waiting there to surprise me. Groooooooooossssssssssssssss!!! Food here is mediocre and cheap. It comes out pretty quickly after you order. I usually get a baked pork chop at the other chains so I wanted to try it here. The pork chop was overcooked. The sauce was just not good. And the rice had a fly in it. UGHREALLY?! Also, when I tried ordering a drink, they ran out of passion fruit and honeydew… How can you run out by 12?! Not a good experience. I don’t want to come back… I’ll just stick to the one in Skyline/Chinatown. At least I know they get the pork chop right…

One word: DISGUSTING! I felt like I was eating compost! One of our dishes came out looking like orange slop. To make matters worse, there was a piece of a steel dish scrubber in my rice. Yuck yuck yuck! I’m all about hole-in-the-walls and cheap Asian food, but seriously AVOIDTHISPLACE!

This place looks a bit run down in my standards if you compare them to the cafes in Los Angeles, particularly in the San Gabriel Valley. I’m not saying that this place is bad, but rather esthetically it needs a face lift. The food here is good and inexpensive after 9pm. We ordered a storm since everything is $ 3.95. My San Franciscan friends frequents this place a lot and raves about it. Of course by me living in SoCal, I’m always up for new experiences anywhere I go. When a local says a place is good and worth a try, I am so in! We ordered porridge with preserved pork and thousand years old egg, quail, rice noodles with beef soup, fried tofu squares, fried beef intestines, an herbal like soup with meat inside, stir fried green Chinese vegetables, fried chicken wings, and a couple of other items that I can’t recall. And my fresh watermelon juice. Every dish ordered was the same price, and you will not find these deals in LA. Everything was delicate with good satay flavors. I probably enjoyed the fried intestines the most since it didn’t have an aftertaste. The only thing missing was beer… which goes hand in hand«Taiwanese» style! What I probably liked the least was the actual Quails we ate. It was good, but I felt a bit weird eating that because it was tiny and had a lot of bones. It kind of gave me the phobia thinking I was eating a rodent. Yikes! My watermelon juice was freshly blended and delicious. Everything else again, was satisfactory. The waitresses were nice. I assume they know our friend who is a regular there. The don’t have any regrets or issues with D & A except I think they can do a better job updating the business and cleaning up the place just a bit more. Sticky tables, and parts of the walls are dirty. That’s a no-no since my sleeves got stuck on something icky. Oh well… I like this place because it’s inexpensive and is tasty. I don’t complain since a friend brought me here. A good three stars! Lots of potential for an upgrade.

I usually come here with my boyfriend to get their breakfast(before 11pm) or lunch specials(11am-3pm). This place is usually packed around 8am-10am since their food is really CHEAP a lot of elderly people come here for breakfast. When you walk in, you’ll notice their interior is outdated and their plates and cups are sometimes chipped, so be careful. The employees here are a bit rude, if you care about service then you should not eat here. They usually take a while to respond back to you if you ask them questions. When I come here during their lunch hours, I usually order their beef chow fun since they give a good amount, and it’s only $ 6.75(NOTLUNCHSPECIAL). My boyfriend ordered their rice plates about $ 5.75(LUNCHSPECIAL). Both our meals combined is under $ 15 which is really cheap compared to other restaurants you go to. So if you’re eating on a budget then you should come here to try it out. Their quality is okay, not the best so don’t have too high of an expectation of this place. If you don’t find any bugs in your food then you’re lucky! Overall, I give this place a 3⁄5 rating mainly for their food, not base on their service. If it was based on their service it would be a zero. Based on my experience, they usually give attitude when you complain about stuff. FYI: Breakfast special is really, really, CHEAP! My boyfriend ordered their beef noodle soup and it was ONLY $ 4. ***Remember to bring cash. [CASHONLY]

Went in here despite the three star rating. Now this place may not be the best, but it’s surely not the worst. Service: I guess it’s hit or miss here, because the server was attentive and accommodating. Plus you have to remember in Chinese restaurants, food is served when it’s ready, not usually all at once. Food: My wife lived in Hong Kong for half a year. She noted that this is the most authentic Cantonese she’s had since then. Some of the food brought her back to the street vendors she frequented while there. Try the Cantonese house special chow main with crispy noodles and the spinach with egg. Everything else: the ambience is non-existent. The place is relatively dirty, just check the bathroom. The prices are a key selling point and the only reason that this isn’t a two star rating, is because the food was good. Likely won’t be back here soon, because we don’t live in the area, but if you’re here and want to try some authentic Cantonese, do it!

I was getting over a sore throat and had a craving for shrimp dumpling soup. I knew there had to be a place on Clement. After a 20-block search, I found D&A Café and their varieties of soup. I asked the women behind the counter if I can sit anywhere since it was just me. They said yes, and I seated myself at the nearest available table. After a few minutes I was given the menu, and awhile later my order was placed. I ended up getting shrimp and wonton soup and it was exactly what I wanted and needed. The dumplings were good, and the broth was flavorful and not too salty. And for $ 5, I thought it was a good deal since it was a big bowl with about 5 of each dumpling. I will agree with the other reviews that it is a long wait to get service. The woman who waited on me apologized and thanked me waiting so I can’t complain too much. The menu is extensive and they have specials at specific times throughout the day. It’s one of those hole-in-the-walls that’s worth checking out if you’re on a budget.
