I agree with many people on here that this shop’s concept is a good idea, but many of the toys and posters are faded, dusty and dirty. I have been here twice, and I don’t know if I will return since the prices are a little too high and staff is not friendly. 5 bucks for a small ice cream in a waffle cone? And they charge you an extra 50 cents to use card. I mean come on… nobody carries cash anymore. Staff took a while to greet me and thought their convo was more important while several customers wait in line. I am still looking for a decent ice cream place and this isn’t one of them.

Love the sandwiches, coffee beverages & ice cream. The chicken gorgonzola sandwich on Dutch crunch bread is my favorite.

The décor of this place im not going to get into because you can read any of the other review but i will say i love it just as much as them. This place is specially awesome because they are open really late. Service is really great to and they make you feel welcome. Thier dessert selection is really great. Can’t believe they had canolies. There food and drinks are great. If you are looking for somewhere to sit down for food or coffee or to go this is the spot for you. Some of the food selection is better then others and prices arnt too bad. I have become a regular at this place.

This is probably my favorite ice cream joint in San Francisco. I’ve been coming here ever since I was a little girl, getting cones with the family after dinner at Georgio’s, and took my fiancé here on our first date as well. THEHIGHLIGHTS. + «It’s a Goody» ice cream rocks my rocks — peanut butter chunks and chocolate chips in vanilla ice cream, a total classic + Open late on weekends(12 am, whatttt) + Tons of awesome toys/collectibles + Surprisingly varied dine-in menu(it’s not just ice cream, like I always thought) + Their awesome mechanical pony(although there’s an age limit, sadly) Good prices, friendly staff, funky shop, great food. Check it out and bring the kids(and some quarters so they can ride the mechanical pony!).

Hands down the best pistachio ice cream on the planet. And who doesn’t love PeeWee Herman themed décor? Definitely going to be coming back as much as possible.

The eight-year-old me gives it five stars for the childhood memories. The twenty-six-year-old me gives it two, because the ice cream is just not that good… I’ve been going back and forth between three and four stars. I want to give it four stars because I don’t want it to go out of business. I settled on three, however, as I would not keep going back for the food/ice cream itself. We used to come here a lot when my childhood palate could not discern the difference between Birite and Double Rainbow ice cream. Eighteen years later, life has jaded/educated me, and unfortunately, now I can tell the difference. Toy Boat carries Double Rainbow ice cream… the green tea matcha doesn’t taste like green tea. The cookie dough balls inside the chocolate chip cookie dough taste more like play dough. My advice to anyone would be to stick to the flavors like espresso or mint chip The grown-up me also noticed how the toys and decorations on the walls are a bit faded. I feel like they can put a little effort into updating at least the posters? They also definitely have enough wall space to install more shelves for more toys. I would be old patrons would even give donations!

Fan of this place. I’ve stopped by on a few occasions for ice cream and coffee in the evening after getting dinner somewhere on Clement. Toy Boat is a quirky little dessert café that has old school toys for sale — think Austin Power action figures, Pez dispensers, Spice Girls bobble head kits, etc. Everything that’s on display is also for sale. So bomb character. I’ve had a few random scoops of ice cream that were good, and the house coffee isn’t bad either. Overall, pretty great café place to grab a quick bite of dessert, especially when some of the other options on Clement get too crowded. tldr; quirky little dessert café — the fourth star is more for the character of the place than the food itself

A fun nostalgic place to go to for ice cream. They let me try lots of flavors until I found some I liked. I ended up with lychee + mango(small cup or cone includes up to 2 flavors). Luckily there were lots of places here to sit; bears have trouble standing and eating. It’s too much coordination for our paws to handle. We also like the ice cream crêpe place across the street, but they have very little seating, no tables, and I always get ice cream on my fur. Bummer. Overall a good experience and I will come back next time with my little cowbear hat to ride the mechanical pony! Yee haw!

This place can do no wrong. From their savoury dishes to their signature desserts, everything is incredible. They also get extra points for carrying Yorkshire Gold tea, which is nigh on impossible to find anywhere out here. I’ll be coming back repeatedly.

Toy Boat continues to be a great neighborhood anchor for the Inner Richmond. The staff is always friendly and I love seeing/hearing how active they are in our community. Lots of tasty dessert, lunch and breakfast options and the TOYS, oh, the TOYS. I always try to get my ice cream here when I have ice cream socials. Good clean fun.

Got a slice of the tiramisu to go. For $ 5.50 the portion size is too small! It really feels like a bite and a half and I was hoping to be able to split it with someone. Also got a small hazelnut latte(not to go). $ 3.75 for a small which was not too bad. Service was nice and pleasant. There is a 50 cent charge for purchases on Visa or Mastercard under $ 8. Also, if you are going to tip make sure you have cash to tip because there isn’t a way to add it to your credit card unless you probably say something in advance(which I didn’t know to, but I had cash on me so that was ok) It was a cute little place but I’m not sure I’m going back for the dessert.

Fine place for a quick scoop of mediocre ice cream but nothing more. The cleanliness of this place is very concerning to me. One cashier had her bowl of noodles and full dinner right next to all the other food and money coming in and out that she would take bites of ever so often, and the other two girls working did not wear gloves while preparing sandwiches and going back and forth from prepping and making food to collecting money and credit cards. Thank god we were only getting some mint chip ice cream. Too bad because I’d love to come to this potentially cute/obscure place for a bagel on a weekend morning but would never after seeing the potentially dangerous food prep we saw tonight while eating our sweets.

A unique place to grab some ice cream, especially late night. The décor of this place looks like a play store and lots of fun. They even have a horse that only kids should ride in the middle of the place. The ice cream flavors are solid and they have a lot of different ones. The price isn’t too expensive, 6 bucks for a shake is pretty good. They serve other goodies here like a red velvet cheesecake and other pastries, I didn’t get to try it tho. They also serve food here but didn’t get to try that either. Anyways it’s a pretty cool place to get some ice cream after eating in the Richmond area. Always good eats out here.

I have odd cravings at odd hours, but don’t we all? I was at a bar with some friends and I really wanted PIE. So my friends and I found this cute café through Unilocal. The workers were nice even though it was late at night. They told me what their favorite pies were to help me narrow down my choices. I couldn’t decide, so I end up with two slices of pie and a latte. Yum! I would totes be a reg. if I lived nearby, but I guess it’s a good thing that I’m not or else I’d get diabetes. ugh. Definitely a place to check out when you’re in the neighborhood.

I remember coming here and the feeling of nostalgia for the games and toys I used to play as a preteen. But the dessert /sundae was really really sweet. If you like that, go and try the place! I liked the experience, there was not a long wait, but it’s not my top pick for ice cream around the area.

Had the veggie avocado wrap today for lunch and it was great. The only thing that might have made it better was if the wrap was heated a bit before making the sandwich… But that’s just nit picky. The girl working the register was super friendly and the gentleman who helped me navigate my order(no jalapeños apparently– but he suggested banana peppers) was really kind. While I was eating there was a nice mix of people who had obviously come out of there way to eat there or pick up lunch and people who had just rolled out of bed and strolled in for a cup of coffee. It always speaks volumes to me when a place has repeat neighborhood clientele and there’s a reason this place does– it’s great! Plan on coming back next Monday to try out the garden burger.

Fun concept but bad execution. The ice cream was good but not incredible. I think the décor detracts from the cleanliness of the place with some ridiculously antique toys that have been hung up for ages and who knows the last time the place has been dusted. I think I saw a plume of dust come up when a kid accidentally threw his spoon up and hit a boxed action figure that he wanted. I think it felt too overcrowded and the unnecessary decorations is why I don’t think this place is that great, the ice cream I got was tasty but nothing spectacular though I have to agree the price is on-point and not very exorbitant like most other places so they redeem themselves in that manner.

Great diner stocked full of kids memorabilia that’s up for sale. Aka you will have lots to look around at should your dessert partner be unskilled in the art of conversation! Try one of their lactose free gelato flavors!

This place has been here forever! I use to walk by toy boat all the time when I was heading to elementary school and had no money. Now I’m able to take my kids here. The girls behind the counter are friendly and very accommodating to my indecisive kids and nephews. They even offered my daughter some toy boat stickers while she was making her decision… My daughter order a scoop of rocky road and it was a pretty hefty scoop. She was happy. I opted for an affogato(espresso w vanilla ice cream) and it’s was DELICIOUS! If this was all we received it would have been 4 stars… BUT one of my kids ordered a banana split to share with his cousin and they reported back to me and said«maybe the lady forgot the ice cream» cause it was mostly whip cream and banana. How unfortunate that the lady was light handed scooping their ice cream ;(also another one order a root beer float for $ 6. Kind of pricey… Side note. forever ago I brought my daughter here and she insisted on getting neapolitan(which they didn’t offer). The gentlemen behind the counter said no problem and scooped her a kid size neapolitan w chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream. It so made her day.

Toy Boat deserves a round of applause for staying open so late! 11 pm on weeknights and midnight on Saturdays. That’s better than some of the bar hours in this city. Methinks they’re taking advantage of the folks who’ve just had an amazing Asian meal nearby and want something sweet to top off the night? Love the toy motif and the gals behind the counter are very nice. Ice cream sundaes are OK, the black and tan I got was mostly chocolate syrup that melted the vanilla in the cup. Stick to a single scoop in a cup or cone and you’ll be A-OK.

My raspberry sorbet cone was pretty rad, as was seeing all the Pee Wee paraphernalia, but the girl behind the ice cream counter was probably the most disgruntled person to ever work at a novelty dessert café. It was the end of the evening so I’m sure she’d had enough but even Grumpy Cat has a friendlier facial expression than this girl did. I still liked looking around all the old toys and ish and thinking for a second that I’d be able to ride the coin operated pony until I took two steps and saw the big old sign noting that it wasn’t for adults… which makes sense, of course, but I think it’s only natural to want to jump on a mechanical mini horse, no matter what age you are. They’ve got quite a few ice cream flavors, one or two sorbet options, sundaes, and giant ice cream sandwiches that you may or may not get the death stare from the girl behind the counter for asking for it to be cut in half.

Toy boat café certainly lives up to its name. The place is covered in toys from floor to ceiling. There is even a coin operated mechanical horse for kids to ride in the center of the shop. This place offers a little of everything. Breakfast, salads, sandwiches, coffee bar, ice cream, smoothies, pastries… If there is something you want, this place probably has it. Considering everything they have going on, I doubt they do any one particular thing spectacularly, but you have to give them credit for the huge amount of options. This would be a great place to swing by if you had kids in tow. Not really my type of place but it seems like it would serve a certain demographic really well.
