Modernism West

Love this place for a smallish event. As an event planner, I’m always on the look out for venues with unique amenities and fantastic service. I love doing events here and working with the Foreign Cinema team. I even had my own Welcome Dinner here and everything from the food to the current exhibit ran flawlessly. Food is always on point. The room has a built-​in projector that shows on the wall over the bar, making AV a breeze.

I’ve been a loyal patron at Foreign Cinema since they opened their doors, and have seen some definite ups and downs over the years. Certainly the addition of Modernism West, a gallery accessible from FC’s outdoor dining area, is one of the better ups.
The gallery itself is a sort of annex to Modernism, a hit gallery featuring art that’s provocative but accessible, and very collectible.
Likewise, Modernism West extends this sensibility, and allows for even more dramatic work to be showcased. I’ve seen a few different exhibits, and have yet to be disappointed by the work, and that’s partly to the bare bones space that makes up the gallery.
Large works are given a full potential to be appreciated, but the more exciting aspect is to see the art actually «living» in the space. By that I mean simply that Modernism West also doubles as a dining and event space, so you can really get to spend a more «natural» time with the art.
Last year we held my birthday party here for about 80 people, and I’d have no hesitation recommending them for other medium sized events, sit down or stand up. The space also has a separate bar, so you can really create an intimate experience, even on Foreign Cinema’s most boisterous nights.
That said, if there is not a private event going on and you happen to be eating at FC, do not miss out on a visit — I mean you’re right there!
