Greek at the airport. Well, what do you expect. Fast food the cuisine is not. So there are compromises to be had. Add in picky customers who don’t know how to use they’re hands, nonetheless forks and knifes(plastic — it’s airport) then your really asking for it. But with all the corporate joints and the burger shacks at the sfo it’s nice change.

I’m looking at other reviews of this place and I’m wondering. is this real life? I’m not sure what was happening when these other Unilocalers stopped by Max’s but I had a great experience here when I was at SFO. For airport food, I thought the pastrami sandwich was super flavorful and the Brussels sprout slaw was bomb because it was finely shaved and not overly dressed. I’ve had my fair share of pastrami sandwiches in my day, even at the famous Harold’s in NJ and this was not comparable but it was good enough for me to crave when I returned to Minnesota. The workers weren’t necessarily the friendliest but then again it was 7am on a Monday so I can’t blame them for not wanting to sing me a song. I’d say give this place a shot if you like side salads and basic cold sandwiches.

I really enjoyed Max’s The Greek! I looove their breakfast sandwich. I had the croissant ham, cheese, and egg sandwich. The ladies working were super sweet and friendly. They heated up our sandwich and cut it in half for my boyfriend and I to share. The sandwich itself really was delicious. The egg was fluffy, the cheese was melted, and the overall taste was AH-MAY-ZING. Of course, it’s airport food so it’s a little on the pricey side. But personally, it was worth it for me. I had great service and delicious food.

They charge you more to order less. Bacon egg cheese sandwich without the bread = $ 2 more. All rude about it too.

2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, one piece of toast. service with a frown. $ 10.99 small water bottle, slightly warm. service with a snotty attitude $ 3.79 Avoid this place at all costs, it’s overpriced, poor food quality and the staff is just horrid. Your options are slim at the airport usually, but if you can try something else or carry a sandwich through security…

A little overpriced, but then again it is the airport. $ 9 for a lamb gyro which is what I got. I liked it, thought it was pretty good. Came with extra tzatziki sauce and it had chunk of the cucumber in it.

Takes advantage of airport location to offer bad food for way too much money. When I walked by, the two people in front of me were rolling their eyes at the bad, nickel-and-diming service they were getting… I got the same. Will not come here again.

Worst gyro sandwich you’ll ever taste. You have my 100% guarantee. Don’t go or you’ll be sorry. You’ve been forewarned. Wish I could give them ZERO stars.

That was the worse lamb gyro I’ve ever eaten! The meat was so hard and dry, the pita it was on was also exteremlly dry. It fell apart in my hands. Avoid this place at all cost!

Nasty, nasty, nasty. Having just spent 10 days in Asia eating the most amazing food, flying home via SFO meant a long layover and somewhat limited food choices. My gate was across from this place, so I opted to try a lamb gyro here. The meat was disgusting. Microwaved to heat it up and it tasted like cardboard. Same consistency too. I would have been better off chewing on shoe leather. Anybody with dentures would have had trouble gnawing through the tough pita bread. I asked for a little extra sauce, and got a dime-sized dollop. If that’s extra, I would’ve needed a microscope to find a regular serving. So disappointing, San Francisco!

Knowing Max’s can be good(unfortunately, with the franchising of the name, this is becoming rarer and rarer), and looking at the pre-made, processed food options available at the various coffee/sandwich stalls, and general abyssmal food on the airlines, I decided to buy food at Max the Greek for a five hour flight on December 4. We ordered what was represented to be fresh turkey sandwiches. I am not certain what was fresh on the sandwich. The turkey was sliced pressed turkey(better quality than in a supermarket processed package, but not by much). The bread was stale. The bacon was very thinly sliced(as said in the Ronco commercial, «sliced so thin your inlaws will never come back»), and cooked to the consistency of cardboard. The Swiss cheese was about the lowest quality imaginable. As for the bread, in a city supposedly famous for bread, what is it about the SF airport vendors serving stale bread and labeling it fresh?(actually, it’s the economy, stupid) Max’s is way, way overpriced even for airport food, and I am going to have to search for better. The man next to me ordered a breakfast sandwich, a bottle of water($ 5 for a large bottle of Fiji water), and roll, and was shocked when it came out to be almost $ 30. After the staff the last time we flew had put quartered pickles dirrectly on top of the sandwich, rendering the bread into a gluey paste, I decided to deal with the problem by requesting the pickles be wrapped separately. The great pickle wrapping effort came to naught since the coleslaw lid was not firmly attached and spilled cole slaw juice all over one of the sandwiches. Way to go Max’s staff!

When people excuse the price of the food because it is at an airport, it is a juvenile cop-out. Bottom line is, you should expect value for food at any location. This food was not only overpriced, it was also underwhelming. $ 12 for a breakfast croissant sandwich? Oh hell now. And it was not any good either, so hard to figure how they feel they deserve that much coin for a really bland greasy sandwich. My advice, keep walking into the main part of the terminal and find better.

This place gets two stars because the owners seem like nice people. However, the gyro was the worst gyro I’ve ever had out of dozens of gyros over the years. It had about three slices of meat and a lot of lettuce.

First of all, I am Greek so when I see that title in signage I tend to head in that direction. Secondly it was 5am and I had been traveling for 48 hours straight, I was tired and hungry, so I went towards something familiar. It turned out nothing at Max’s the Greek was Greek… the owners/employees are Asian, sweethearts, lovely people, but not Greek. secondly for breakfast there were croissant sandwiches and things like that again not Greek. thirdly my Chinese order taker was named Jesus, my twilight zone traveling experience just kept finding additional dimensions. It was confusing and yet a lot of fun. The energy at this fast food stand is really cool. I ordered the breakfast croissant with egg, cheese and bacon. I was genuinely surprised to find that it was REALLYGOOD. The croissant was fresh and flaky, just like I prefer them. The eggs were real and recently made as was the bacon. The sandwich worked really well together and I would definitely order it again. I loved that it was ready to go, since I was rushing to get to my flight and they reheated it for me in the microwave. Kids we are in an airport ordering fast food, don’t judge it too harshly. Their prices are airport prices and even though there are other choices in this airport I would prefer Max’s again.

For food in an airport is never good. But what impressed me was the following 1) The breakfast(which is hard to screw up) was good 2) I watched them roast their vegetables for a lunch/dinner dish, which is very impressive for an airport. 3) They are kind of seinfeldish ‘airport’ nazis,’ but its actually kind of fun if you lighten up and joke with them they joke right back. So for airport food, impressive. I have eaten there three times now and have had better that airport food. How many of you have eaten at a Chili’s and hated it?

If you can make it past the rude man at the counter that makes the soup Nazi look like Cinderella, you may be privileged enough to eat the soup that looks like it came out of a can this morning. Never again.

Yup, it is airport food: expensive and not as good as my next door sandwich store. I got a croissant sandwich for about 10 dollars! The taste was okay just not really fresh.

$ 9 for a gyro. I remember paying 1.50 Euro in Athens and that meal didn’t come out of a microwave… But then again, we’re at an airport eating airport quality at airport prices. Considering that this is reasonably good food that sure beats the Burger King 200 feet further down. The pastrami sandwich another reviewer mentioned looked tasty but I’m used to much taller versions of it’s kind.

Cheerful, and yes, Greek. In the morning, at the airport, you may not have too many choices. They had four breakfasts on the menu, posted on the counter. I asked for a gyro, and the cook said I should choose a menu item. Menu item 4 included a gyro, with several other things, including eggs. It looked too big for breakfast. Menu item 2 was a breakfast pita wrap, what I would call a Greek breakfast burrito. That looked attractive. The cashier fetched our coffee and tea, after we ordered them several times. 1 coffee, 1 scrambled egg breakfast, 1 «crsnt egg & chz,» 1 banana, 1 hot tea, for $ 20.62.
