I love to write at Ma’velous. It’s right in the heart of the strip of Market Street that is in such interesting flux right now. It’s always hopping. It smells like really rich and fancy coffee, but you can get a lovely tea service or a glass of wine too. Counter service is unpretentious and knowledgeable. Ambiance is high-end yet welcoming.

Groovy lil spot for coffee or wine. I like that the word groovy instead hipster comes to mind. The place is hip but not in annoying or off putting way. More atmospheric, groove n chill vibes. Cute little intimate nooks & crannies inside to have a quiet conversation amidst the hustle & bustle of market street. The barista was all business & manning the spot by himself doing a killer job. Loved the aesthetic of the place, dark walls, crown molding, good music, cool furniture & artsy lighting. Nice spot for a first meeting to see if your internet date is a weirdo or not. Coffee is $ 3, not as good as Philz,(impossible standard no where is) BUT a great cup, plus all sorts of other options Philz does not have. Wine & food too!

A hip coffee/wine bar. Wooden theme for the place. Hipster and business clientele. Across the street from Twitter. I haven’t tried their wines, but their coffees are always small and delicious. The building is in a cool shape with doors on both ends of the triangular block. Good place to take a date, or to take a small group. There is a bar to sit at as well as some tables.

great intimate ambience — several«conversation areas» with a couple tables in each area. Location near both Civic Center BART and the Symphony/Opera. My mocha was delicious AND $ 6.50, though, so prepare for the sticker shock. Also, they started playing music around 6:30 pm on a Thursday, which made conversation difficult. Overall, though, a very pleasant, chill space.

I stumbled upon this place several months back, while waiting to go to a show down on 11th. The atmosphere and the drinks are fantastic. Ma’velous lives up to its name, and it is a place I always look forward to visiting. The hot chocolate is my favorite — cocoa-y but not too sweet, just how I like it.

Tall tinted windows face NEMA, a clear and evident symbol of the excess of the rich. Nice shoes and suits with shirts unbuttoned, or jeans and hoodies and well coiffed hair and badges that dangle from toned thighs talk of teamwork and network downtime as owl statues gaze at a shockingly well curated wine and beer selection. A bus driver sits at a table starting up at globe lights and baroque filigree and dark wood, listening to the tinny sounds if terrible music emerging from the headphones of the man next to him. This is no longer his city. A cup of coffee or tea in a black diner mug while the barista measures water temperature and grams of beans precisely. Fourtyninth parallel roasts are well extracted, shots properly brewed. Men and women with six figure salaries drink under filtered light, the barista serves, the bus driver reads. The heart of the city throbs with money as streetcars ring bells. The coffee is good, the coffee is expensive. Gone are the days you could get a hit of smack in this corner, ladies of the night no longer flaunt the daylight. Everything changes.

One thing that I’ve looked for in the city is a cute coffee shop with enough seating where I can just sit with a friend and enjoy a cup of coffee and a long conversation. Sadly, that type of leisure, sans laptop/work stuff is almost extinct. Thankfully, Ma’velous is just such a place! The atmosphere is cozy with a distinct lounge vibe, which makes sense because at night it transforms into a beer and wine bar of sorts. Some pastries are available, but it’s definitely not a place for a meal. I had a mocha which was very good, and my friend had a beer. I’ll be back.

I’ve been here a few times and the staff has been borderline rude every time. I have suuuuuper low expectations when it comes to that kind of thing(too many years slaving away at restaurants/cafes myself), and still end up feeling like I just asked them for their first born child when I order a damn cappuccino. I mean, I don’t even need a smile! And don’t even try to small talk me because I am an awkward introvert who can barely make eye contact. Kind of a bummer since it’s a cute space and the coffee is good. Oh well.

It was okay. Small place, no wifi. It’s good for small groups to come and chat, but not really much else.

Not really impressed with my visit here. Visiting San Francisco and this was my first stop. I decided to come here because the pictures on Unilocal were so convincing and I really wanted some good coffee but I was greeted by a rude barista. I’ve never been there so I asked him for a recommendation, he replied back with a snide remark and basically didn’t help me at all. Basically he made it seem like I didn’t know what I was doing because I asked for a recommendation. Usually when I ask for recommendations baristas are pretty happy to give me one. The drink itself wasn’t even mediocre, I could’ve made it at home. I was at least hoping for it look nice but he didn’t put any effort into making it. There was still powder at the bottom of the drink. Biggest waste of $ 7 for a sloppy made drink and terrible customer service. Only reason I’m giving it two stars is because of its hours and the ambience of the café was nice.

While the coffee here was good the staff lacked any kindness. We were pretty much ignored as we ordered and one of my friends asked a question that was responded to with a lot of attitude and an eye roll. San Francisco has a lot of good places to get coffee, I would say this is one place you can skip.

BIGFAN! Really the baristas are very knowledgeable and the coffee is pulled perfectly. I was not a fan of the baked goods, and have not tried the wine but as far as coffee they got my vote. Lots of places to choose from in the area… so give these guys a try. Specially when you want to enjoy your espresso in a quiet location before you get your day started.

Super cool vibes. Based on their almond milk latte alone– which I couldn’t resist based on other Unilocalers pictures– man, that is pure unadulterated goodness. It’s silly, smooth, creamy with a good kick of caffeine. It’s worth the 4.50. The place is small but has character in its funky decorations and mismatched furniture and it definitely adds to the hipster, rocker atmosphere. Love that it serves coffee alongside beer and wine– it’s the best of both worlds. Next time, I’ll be back to try the alcoholic drinks!(This could be dangerous– I work across the street)

I stopped into Ma’velous to avoid the food coma that generally follows eating lunch. I love that they source their beans from different roasters from different parts of the country. As a coffee enthusiast who is always in search for a good cup, I love places like Ma’velous that expose roasters beyond the traditional SF mainstays. I also love their quirky space that has a lot of things that could be good for conversation starters. I had a great pourover using Heart beans from Portland, and I can’t wait to see what’s around when I return.

Decent coffee shop, but not really one I’d see myself frequenting. It’s a pretty chill spot nonetheless. The space is rather small so it’s not really good for large groups, but it’s good for getting some work done. Kind of dark inside and very hipster. They serve wine too. To be honest, I don’t really know much about coffee. Their black coffee is reasonably priced at $ 3 but leaves a slight acidic/bitter aftertaste, which is how I judge my coffee.

Great place! Quiet, with a nice calming atmosphere and a fantastic little nook in the back for group talks, and study sessions. The cappuccino I ordered was fantastic, and the cheddar and bacon scone I got was also really good: all nice and fresh, and crumbly. Unfortunately they don’t heat things up, and they are a bit on the expensive side, but that’s alright. The coffee itself was good. Unlike most places, there was a lovely lack of actual bitterness in the coffee; it was smooth and delicious, with the flavors blending together seamlessly. Next time I come back for a study sesh/break, I am planning on trying their hot chocolate or mocha; they say the use good quality Tcho chocolate, and I would love to test that for myself.

Good solid place for a cup of coffee… or glass of wine. I love that Ma’velous has it all… except for a food menu and free WiFi. This is the perfect place to catch up with a friend or two but definitely not with a group of people. There is usually one barista running the whole place when I’m there, but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t get too busy. Everything about this coffeeshop is so quaint and dainty. I love it. Perfect for any time of day!

So good! I got the mocha and it was delicious! It’s the perfect blend of coffee and chocolate. The chocolate is a kind that is not super sweet which is amazing. Perfect for a cold day! The only thing is, I think they should add food there too. They would definitely make a lot of money from adding food, even if it’s just pastries. Also it was a little strange that there were drinks like wine and beer along with coffee? Weird combination. But again, when people drink they want to eat.

Great coffee and great space! Went in early on a Thursday and was one of the only people in the shop so there was lots of seating. The ambiance is very unique, and it’s by far the best coffee shop I’ve found in the area. They’re great at what they do, if you’re near Civic Center definitely try and stop in!

This joint is super narrow and cozy and I could totally see myself and a group of friends drinking wine and chatting here but I just needed a quick fix at 1 on Monday afternoon so I decided to give their coffee a try. I had the black iced coffee in a 8−12oz cup and it cost $ 4 and there was a huge ball of ice in it! So I barely had any coffee and the cool solid ball remained front in center in diluting my coffee… I see that there are many reviews on their HOT coffee though! I may return for that.
