Your standard, greasy, semi-fast-food thai restaurant. Reasonable prices, decent portions and pretty flavorful. I ordered the vegetarian Pad See Ew with chinese broccoli and tofu. It was a plate full of noodles stained greasy sauce, essentially, and about 3 pieces of chinese broccoli and a few small cubes of fried tofu. I wouldn’t reccommend this dish; their rice plates, however, seem better. I tasted my friend’s Spicy Eggplant rice plate and it was pretty good. There are better thai restaurants in the union square area; location-wise, though, this one’s pretty central and convenient when you’re downtown shopping.

Have come here twice over the years and gone away wishing I had a place like this back home. Quick service. Good portions. Reasonable prices. What more could you ask for in a Thai place. Last visit had the drunken noodles. Came out piping hot fresh. Good flavor and the noodles had the right consistency and texture. So big that I couldn’t finish. And a nice kick of spice without being unbearable. Soups are delicious too. So, if you’re looking for a good quick lunch place near Union Square, this is a very good find.

I put up with some awful people on a day to day basis. Nasty, spoiled little brats who can’t be bothered to sign for their credit card slips, tip sometimes on the tip line, get off their cellphones, and yes, even keep tabs on where their precious children are as they yack away to their personal psychic. People lie to me on a daily basis to try to get something discounted, taken off the bill and taken back and I listen and accommodate with a smile. So when I go out to eat or get some retail therapy, I try to give my fellow industry people a break and be a normal human being. But alas, we can’t be angels 100% of the time and we certainly can’t control our drunk friends who are horrible light weights. And this is why King of Thai gets 5 stars instead of 4 stars. At 1 a.m. on a Saturday night, you’re pretty much expecting the worst out of every little creature in the TL. 3 rounds of drinks in, my tiny sloshy crew walked, skipped and tip toed barefoot from Nob Hill to the TL and followed yours truly and her Blackberry Unilocal app to the promised land and visions of green curry and spicy eggplant with chicken. I wasn’t surprised to find it crowded and filled with groups coming down from a heavy buzz and upon our arrival, we were escorted to the waiting area in the corner. It probably would have been to our benefit if we were seated right away as one of my friends started showing photos of her naked girlfriend to the table closest to us. Yeah, you read that right-naked girlfriend photos. And no, we didn’t know these nice people. And no, she had no shame apparently. These kind people had hearts big enough to welcome her to their table, humor her and not hold it against her when she ate off their plates. Yeah, you read that correctly again. Being the awesome friends we are, we didn’t pretend to not know her and even ordered for her. The servers were incredibly patient and on top of the many modifications going back and forth at the table. We’re service industry people-of course we don’t need anything the normal ways it’s prepared. In the time it took to get through one anecdote about work, pad thai, green curry, pumpkin curry, spicy eggplant and chicken were quickly dropped off at the table to a much appreciative and hungry group. And yes, we got the prodigal flasher of the girlfriends’ goods back to the table too. I wasn’t drunk so my senses were all with me as I dove into the spicy goodness. I’m mildly amused when servers warn me how«spicy» a dish is and caution against me adding chilis to it. Thai food is pretty much the only food I don’t commit any sins against it by adding condiments or butchering it to the point where it becomes something familiar to my everyday diet. In my youth I couldn’t stand Thai food and up until my early twenties, you could probably bet I’d be ordering fried rice at Thai restaurants when out with a group because I couldn’t find anything I liked. Now that I’ve tried it numerous times, I realize it’s not Thai food that was the problem-it was the Thai restaurant we always frequented in childhood that was the problem. I’m a huge fan of their green curry, spicy eggplant with chicken and their super spicy papaya salad. I wouldn’t suggest papaya salad for anyone with a weak stomach or an ulcer but it should be it’s own eating challenge for those who like it hot. Since King of Thai is the only place in the neighborhood open till 2 a.m., tolerant of drunk fools like my friends, the quality of food doesn’t falter at any point, and the service is pretty much flawless, I give this place 5 stars.

Went here for a really quick dinner before a showing at the ACT theater. 30 minutes before the show started. There was like one other person in the restaurant. The atmosphere wasn’t too good but we were in a hurry so whatever. I ordered the chicken fried rice. My friends order the chicken pad see– you and a chicken pad thai. I know we just love chicken. The food arrived really fast. My fried rice was pretty good but I feel like they use a lot of msg. There was only one bathroom for both males and females.

this is probably like my 15th update for this place, but I have come, and tried to try other things beside the Flat Rice Duck Noodle Soup, and nothing is as good or consistent as the duck noodle soup… You must try it. Pumpkin Chicken curry was alright, spicy though. Pad Tai– okay Peanut butter noodles? — eh. Red seafood flat noodles — sour Pat See Ew — okay Yellow Curry– a lot of sauce, not enough meat or potatoes All those times I decided to try something else besides the duck noodle, i ALWAYS regret it… idk why i do it. The girls are really nice, but they kinda rush rush rush you, owell. Authentic Thai! I dont think any thai place isnt run by Thais. not like Chinese owned Sushi bars.

1 sentence summary: Among a slew of overpriced tourist traps, the wait at King of Thai is worth it because it saved my budget by offering a host of satisfying dishes under $ 10.

King of Thai must be a chain with all of these other locations I see on Unilocal.Anyways, this is a location in Union Square a couple spaces away from Katana-Ya. It was 5:30 pm, but I was surprised to see that the group I was with was the only ones at this location. Being the only diners usually gives you concern that your dining experience will be less than satisfactory. Thankfully, this concern was unrealized. I liked King of Thai. Ordered four dishes. Basil with ground beef, a fishcake appetizer, pad thai with chicken and yellow curry. All of the dishes were good, especially the basil with ground beef. The fishcakes had a nice dipping sauce that has a spicy taste to it. The pad thai is as you would expect, which is a good thing. The curry was good too, though it seemed lacking much filler. Prices are decent for a Thai place, but be forewarned that this is a cash only establishment. Décor is pretty minimal and nothing really to look at, but the food here is good. If you are in the Union Square are, King of Thai is a good bet for a solid meal.
