Good location and atmosphere. Chicken wings were pretty decent, and the pad see ew was great. I like the ladies who work there, they pour your Singha in a nice, tall glass. I’ll come back.

Moved to the neighborhood this spring so I’ve had a chance to try several things from here. They do a good job overall and they’re fast with to go orders. Their fresh rolls are the best on the block bc of the peanut sauce!

One of my favorite Thai food places to visit every time I am in San Francisco. They always accommodate larger groups and I have never had to wait any time I have been there. The restaurant is very clean and has very good service as well. Pat thai, the curries are my favorite and I can just keep going back there for every meal. If you are with a larger group, just order different appetizers and share cause it is worth trying them all.

Ar Roi feels surprisingly clean and new. We had no trouble getting a table and getting great service on a Tuesday night. But…it is an average Thai restaurant with the usuals(rice noodles, curry, entrees). And also slightly more expensive than what I can get around the area. The food took a long time too and we were starving. – Orders – — — — — — - Beef Satay $ 10: They ran out of pork satay so we went with the beef which turned out fine. There were 6 skewers each with large portions of meat and the beef wasn’t dry! Loved the satay with their side peanut sauce and cucumbers. Minced Chicken(Larb Chicken) $ 10.50: As it says on the menu, it’s cooked with lime juice, fish sauce, and onions. The lime juice and onions are prominent making this an interesting«salad» with lettuce on the side. I can imagine this going well with rice. Glass Noodle Soup $ 6: The soup was too salty for me but it came with a lot of goodies. There were tofu, mushroom, glass noodles, and chicken. The medium sized bowl of soup filled me up. It’s a good amount for one person. Tom Yum Soup $ 6: Typical tom yum. Sour. Lemongrassy. — — — — — – I wanted to try the noodle or rice dishes and even maybe the spring rolls which looked and smelled delicious. However, I wouldn’t come back because the food is not cheap. There are too many other restaurants to try in San Francisco for me to spend money on an average place I’ve been to before.

Ordered two orders of Kang Jerd Woo Sen soup at $ 6 each! Pros: — nice broth — like the straw mushrooms better(menu says black) Cons: — tiny portion — one woman said the noodles will come in a box on the side, they did not, they were in the soup. Cheap. At these prices we will not return.

Disappointing they didn’t have two dishes I asked for, which were the stuffed prawns and the mango with sticky rice. The service was extremely friendly though, and my fiancé said it was her favorite meal in San Fran! Pretty impressive for a grilled cheese girl. Powerful, light flavors, tasty all the way. Very clean.

I’ve been eating here since college so its been about 20 years now. I can say that the food has not changed, which is a good thing! My favorite dish has to be the angel wings, my buddy cliff could sit there all day devouring those things. I think he did on one occasion thus why his photo has been prominently displayed as an alter near the bathrooms. Other good dishes include the fried rice, tom yum soup, pat se ew, pat thai, and the curries. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal year. Service here is excellent, staff is nice an friendly, especially the owners!

In the past I’ve had their curry and noodles as takeout and they were pretty good! Today, super sick as I am, i trekked out to pick up some Tom Yum soup, got it spicy but boy was it SPICY. Like SOAWFUL that I had to dilute with water and chicken broth, boiled over the stove and STILLINCREDIBLYSPICY. No one can tolerate that kind of spice, it literally tasted disgusting and was inedible. I’ll think twice before I order from here again. STAYAWAYFROMTHESOUP!

My favorite Thai restaurant in nob hill. Great presentation, service and quality of Thai food. This is a great spot for a nice dinner or lunch, definitely my pic out of all Thai restaurants. Price is good for the quality of food and service. I love the yellow curry and the pad Thai is also really good. Can’t forget the Thai iced tea.

3.5 stars. Thai iced tea($ 3.5) and Tom Yum Chicken Soup — individual size($ 6) were on the sweet side. Their House Special(Ar Roi) Fried Rice is decent. Nothing extraordinary about the good or the place. Just simple, casual Thai food. Overall, decent. Service was tentative as they refill water several times.

There are many wonderful Thai restaurants in San Francisco and this is certainly one of them and one of the best in the Union Square /Theater area. It’s décor is quite upscale but prices manageable. I am a vegan /vegetarian and I find several great dishes and appetizers to satisfy me.

BUGINMYFOOD!!! See the Unilocal pic of the roach in the curry take out! I called to complain and was assured they would refund my card. They then called me back and told me I had to bring them the food back so their kitchen doesn’t lose«costs.» Were they going to reserve this?! They are withholding the refund since I refuse to go back there. Disgusting and terrible treatment! Stay away!

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Made a reservation for 7pm but the restaurant was rather empty then. Service was rather unpleasant. Waitress was rude and impatient and kept making us order more/finish our food/get the check. Food was mediocre. If you’re looking for Americanised Thai food, this is probably it. Nowhere near authentic Thai food. Pad thai was too sweet. Tom Yum soup was sweet instead of hot and sour. Green curry was not spicy and the meat was overcooked. Overall disappointing experience.

Ordered: Pad ar roi: spicy and delicious. Be careful going extra spicy! Pad grapao: so good! The meat is very tender and the sauce is amazing! Papaya salad: order it spicy for an explosion in your mouth! Sweet, tangy, spicy Fried spring rolls: the sauce is bomb! Fried perfectly, great flavor! Pad se-ew: w/prawns. Perfect cool and taste! General consensus: will definitely be back! Best Thai food in SF!

Ordered the: 1. Angel wings $ 11 = 4.5÷5 2. Kang ka ree with beef $ 12 = 4⁄5 stars 3. pad ar roi $ 14 = 3⁄5 stars 4. 2 bowls of jasmine rice $ 3/person = $ 6 5. Thai iced tea 4.5÷5 stars Altogether it came out to $ 50.03 + tip Service was mediocre at first. It took awhile for them to acknowledge us and take our order(16 minutes). We had to wave someone down to get our order taken. So 2⁄5 for that. But eventually they took care of us and they timed each order precisely. Drinks came out first, then appetizer came out second and they waited until we were finished with the appetizer to bring out the entrees at the same time. They were also on top of refilling waters and checking on us so that gets 5⁄5 stars. Overall service gets 3.5÷5 stars The food was good for the most part but for the price, it’s not THAT good. Then again, it is San Francisco… Overall experience 3.5÷5 stars but since it’s the holidays I’ll round up and give them 4⁄5 stars.

I’ve been meaning to go here for a while now seeing as that is literally across the street from my building. I left this place so full, so happy and so ready to come back. Food: I’m definitely no Thai food expert but I’ve had my share of Pad Khee Mao and wow, delicious stuff here! These type of noodles can border on bliss and take a turn to mushy grossness if they’re too oily. Ar Roi made them with perfect flavor, texture and oil to noodle ratio. My boyfriend and I saw the plate and assumed we’d need a to-go box… we almost licked the plate clean. He got the Kang Panang with beef — a delicious dish as well. Subtle hints of coconut and curry, neither flavor overpowering the other. This was served with a good size of jasmine rice. The beef was cooked well and didn’t have those dreaded balls of fat all over it as it sometimes does. Service: Multiple servers helped us, each playing an equally important role in the serving. It was an interesting dynamic but I enjoyed it… seemed very well tuned and as though they all knew who was doing what with no crossover. Ambiance: A mix of dated and modernized but very clean, well kept, warm and spacious. All in all — we will be back :)

Sorry to rave against the Unilocal machine here but, I wasn’t impressed with Ar Roi Restaurant. Maybe it’s because we arrived about an hour before close and the kitchen had already given up… maybe not. Who knows? What I do know is that the only thing I liked was the décor and the Thai Iced Tea. Our Mussamen Curry had a strange flavor to it, not like any of the Mussamen I’ve ordered before. That could have been a good thing but in this case, it wasn’t. The noodle in the Pad Thai was good but the shrimp was overcooked… not just a little but ‘eww’ overcooked. We also got the glass noodle soup and while it was healthy tasting, it needed some serious salt… and I don’t normally add salt to food. I swear, I’m not a picky person normally(my review stats prove that) but the only thing they did right was the Thai tea. Even the waitress was sketchy. She was nice to our face but I could tell she got annoyed when we sat down before she could get to us at the front door. Umm, no offence meant. There’s no sign that says ‘wait for hostess’ and we didn’t want to wait in the cold!!! I wouldn’t want to go back, even if friends wanted to. Won’t see me there.

Simple and straight-forward yet romantic, alluring, and engaging Thai restaurant in the heart of SF’s theatre/south Nob Hill district. Though small, the interior makes good use of its high ceilings and, at night, low light, fostering a perfectly enchanting atmosphere. While the bright yellow paint-job outside may seem a bit much, the touches of turquoise inside make up for that. The environment, location, and price-point make it appropriate for dinner with friends as much as a date spot: when I lived on Pine Street, my room-mate would often wind up here for dinner. The pad grapao, angel wings, satay, and kang dang, and most anything they do with seafood are real winners as far as the menu items are concerned. Do get some of their starters because they’re great, including the spring rolls, which are perfectly fried and the satay which also has never been less than expressly awesome. They’ve been in business since 1991 which in SF really says something good about any restaurant: they know what they’re doing and doing it well.
