Georgette is amazing at blow drying my thick long hair. And her styling LASTS for over 5 days! She has been in the business for many years and is a pleasure to work with. She also is excellent at cutting my hair. I am very particular and she’s the best beautician in the city. Check her out!

Love Tweetie, the manicurist! I’ve been to many nail salons throughout San Francisco and she is the first esthetician that I’ve met that is a perfectionist. She is very delicate with your cuticles so they don’t get bruised and is detail oriented with applying and removing gel manicure.
I used to get gel manicures and I had to stop because my nails started thinning. After Tweetie, I get them done almost every 3 weeks now because she removes the gel polish very delicately.
I highly recommend her.

Everyone knows, I’m extremely picky when it comes to my nails. I’m notorious for never returning to a salon more than once because I’m not completely satisfied with my signature mani: a stiletto French tip. I’ve been hard pressed to find a go-​to nail salon in the city… so much so that I traveled to SJ on a regular basis to get my nails did. But the nail gods were shining down upon me when I made it to Joli Bijou on the day my Groupon expired, no less. ‘Tweety’ is amazing. She was warm & cordial. Relaxing, pleasantly uncrowded spot. Ladies are warm and friendly, but also meticulous manicurists. Will come back next month for sure.

Hands down the best gel mani that I have ever had! The polish lasted more than 2 weeks with zero chips, so I was a very happy customer. The manicurist was kind and unobtrusive. She takes her time and is gentle and meticulous. I used a Groupon since I was a new client, and felt that she gave me the same level of treatment that she would have a full paying customer.
The salon environment was cozy. It is located on a quiet street off of Fillmore (plenty of parking nearby). The tools used were brand new, and I liked the wide selection of nail colors to choose from. Will definitely return!

I just had my hair done by Denise Helias. She was the owner of Kookla Salon on Sacramento but has since moved. Denise listens to what you want, offers suggestions and then works her magic! I decided to go a little darker than usual — the color came out a rich and beautiful brown. She is meticulous and a perfectionist! A master at her craft — there’s no doubt about it! Honesty, Denise (salon owner and colorist) and Georgette (hair stylist) are the best. I have tons of hair and it’s been hard to manage and to keep the reddish-​brown color from going mysteriously maroon and/​or purple — UNTIL I found Kookla. Great results every time. And it’s low-​key. I never feel rushed or pressured in any way. Highest recommendation.

Denise does the best hair color, hands down. She intuitively knows what looks good on you, and always suggests it in the best possible way. Thanks to her artistry, I have the hair color I’ve always wanted – natural, polished and not damaging to my locks (slow processing hair color).

Having just recently returned to San Francisco after a 15-​year absence, it was driving me nuts thinking that I had to find a hair stylist. I am super picky about my haircut, which is a precision cut short bob. Because I have thin, fine hair with an awkward curl pattern, it can be a challenge.
I am glad I checked on Unilocal.The reviews led me to Kookla and Georgette & Denise. After my consultation (free, of course), I made an appointment to have a cut with Georgette. It’s awesome! And after talking to Denise, I feel equally secure about having my hair colored after the first of the year.
Very casual, no pretense salon with cool jewelry in the front. Plus, one of the most mellow dogs I have ever met.

I’m a longtime customer and can honestly say I look forward to my appointments which are pretty frequent! The location, the place, the music, and the quality of service make it so enjoyable. Whether haircut or color or both, you won’t go wrong.

Denise and Georgette are a great team. I have been getting my hair colored by Denise for years and I finally decided to go to Georgette for a blow out after my color.
I have tried many different people for blowouts in the city and Georgette is by far the best. She has done amazing things with my hair.
Denise uses low ammonia color products so my hair is less damaged over time.
I highly recommend both of them and the prices are reasonable

I am still in shock after reading some of these reviews. I just bought a house a half a block away from Kookla and thought it would be a great place to go. I walked in one day last week and was completely IGNORED! I decided that while I was being ignored I’d pet the dog that hangs out in the salon. Finally someone (the owner?) came over to the desk and STILL IGNORED me. In spite of being ignored I was very polite and friendly and told her I was interested in having my hair done and doing something somewhat low maintenance. She told me it was impossible and walked away and never turned back. I seriously stood there in shock because I couldn’t believe someone could be so rude. Where do they find customers with this treatment? Maybe they should hang a sign on their door stating they don’t need any more customers, as they obviously don’t.

I’d love to say Georgette is horrible so no one will go to her, but the fact is I’m 43 and far from hip and she made me feel beautiful with an incredible cut. I had fried my hair and she cut it off in a way that didn’t make it look like a mercy cut.
She’s amazing, and the shop is comfy and not over the top. Great vibe. I’ll never go anywhere else.

Kookla is not one of your typical Pac Heights establishments. It’s not trendy, overcrowded, or trying to sell you beautiful things that you don’t need for way too much money.
I have been getting my hair colored at Kookla for 4 years now, and will never stray. Denise is a great colorist — all she does is color, and she is an expert. She uses only the best European dyes and takes her time applying them. Not only does she have a loyal customer base here in SF, she also travels to NY to service her clients there every 6 weeks or so.
I look forward to my visits to Kookla — to catch up with Denise, who is über-​cool and wise, read her great selection of magazines, listen to interesting music, and pet her greyhound Remy, who is a fixture in the salon. The difference between going here and to other salons is that this is Denise’s place — you are not subject to the colorist-​of-​the-​day or a change in management.
I use the Rene Furterer line of hair products — excellent brand. This salon is not at all about selling products, but Denise believes in this line, and I trust her experience and advice.
As with most of the women I know, the state of your hair can dictate how you feel about your self-​image. Therefore trust is vital when it comes to hair care. I feel lucky to have found Kookla because I trust that I will be taken care of there — and that’s why I always come back.
