Me and my roommates this place so much! If you really wanna get down with the fried shit and delicious sandwiches, check our Jay’s. They literally have almost every type of fry you can imagine, including fried pickle spears! My only complaint is that the seitan sandwich is a bit inconsistent, but yaassss, along with everyone else, that is my favorite. The vegan dog is also hella good. **we never eat at the establishment, always deliver.

AMAZING cheesesteak! Grab it on the way to Dolores Park. CASHONLY!!! Discovered this place because I was trying to find a place that serves vegan food, and this place has a vegan menu! It’s a kinda hipster, slightly-larger-than-a-hole-in-the wall place in the mission. I never had a cheesesteak before, so I had to look up what a cheesesteak actually is — a sandwich made from thinly sliced pieces of beefsteak and melted cheese in a long hoagie roll. Everything on the menu looks amazing. I decided to try Jay’s Mushroom Cheesesteak with everything(mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and grilled onions). It was DELICIOUS. They really didn’t go easy on the beefsteak and cheese. Big portion. I could only finish half of the sandwich for lunch. To be frank, there is nothing that’s extremely fancy about these sandwiches. The store keeps everything simple and easy to understand, with small variations between each choices. But I think this place deserves a 5 star because everything was prepared freshly, and I really enjoyed the simple taste of the sandwich. The chef took 15 min or so to prepare my food, which is a bit long but is similar to the wait time at Ike’s sandwich. I was tempted to compare this place to Ike’s but realized that it wouldn’t be too fair, because it would be comparing oranges and tangerines. They are similar enough but still have differences that make each of them special. I would definitely come back to grab another bite of these yummy-ness!

The first time my boyfriend and I passed the place and we almost went to the place across the street until we noticed it was right there in front of our faces. Dodgers suck is probably one of the best cheesesteak(my opnion: if you like Hotlinks) I’m not from around sf but every time I come to town its a must. The workers are friendly. I will be coming back soon

I ordered my food ahead of my lunch break knowing that it would be cold but I didn’t mind, I have a microwave. When I opened the box, I didn’t even get want I had wanted. Where’s the cheese to my fries??? How do you mess that up? The dressing for my tots was spilled out of its container so I couldn’t even heat that up without having hot dressing. The only thing that wasn’t a mess we’re my jalapeño poppers so that’s my two stars.

Word of mouth said this place was good. Plus they Got good reviews too. Anyways I was working in the area. Lunch time came around so I looked up resturants nearby. Saw serrano’s pizza was down the street So I started walkin there. As im walkin up to serrano’s I see jays cheese steak across the street. But before I walk into serrano’s. At the last min I change my mind and decided to go to jays. Place was pretty empty. Noticed that they put lettuce and pickles. Two things I wouldnt want on a philly. But decided to try it anywayz. I Ordered a cheese steak with bell peppers. Tator tots and soda. So when I get the food. Im trippen on how big the tator tot serving is. Tator tots werent krispy a lil oily for me. Had like three and threw the rest away. What a fuckin waste. Then I tried the sandwich. Before i bite into this thing. Im thinkin I swear i ordered cheese with this sandwich. Man I couldnt taste the cheese at all. The Meat wasnt seasoned no kind of juicy ness from the meat. Smh pissed at myself for not going to serrano’s. Ive had better food off of a mediocre roach coach truck. Garbarge trucks should line up in this place and just start dumpin all they trash. Cuz this place is straight up garbage. Spent $ 18 bucks and some change. Only thing I liked was the can of squirt. Yeah so 1 star for the squirt.

Awesome cheesesteak. Fast, friendly service. The décor is fun and colorful. Great lunch spot. I will come back to try some of their other sandwichs.

This is one of the saddest days in culinary history. For me is a heartbreaking day — a time of mourning. Jay’s is dead. The food is burnt, dry, salty and overpriced. The service is slow and inefficient. This was the best and most magnanimous sandwich in the world. Now is just an ash and fickle figment of its Roman or Renaissance days. What a Greek tragedy of titanic proportions this is!!! Did they change owners? Are they smoking crack? Are they without passion anymore? Cry cry cry! Don’t come to this place. They need to learn a lesson. I hope they go bankrupt.

I’ve never been to the actual restaurant, but I’ve Postmated from Jay’s after hearing my coworkers talk about it. I was thoroughly underwhelmed though. The mushroom cheesesteak didn’t really taste like much. The meat wasn’t very seasoned; there wasn’t as much cheese as I would have expected on a cheesesteak; the sandwich din’t have enough sauce, I saw /tasted just a hint of mustard. The redeeming part of the meal for me was actually the onion rings, which were not half bad.

I was expecting a melty mushroom cheesesteak over a soft hoagie roll. Instead I got a toasted french baguette with greasy under-seasoned beef, lettuce, and tomatoes. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t a cheesesteak. Overpriced mediocre food. The jalapeño poppers were soft and under-fried.

(This post has been edited to reflect new information. My first post conveyed my dismay that this restaurant was allegedly keeping $ 1 of the $ 2 delivery fee. That information turn out to not be correct. see below) UPDATE: As per Jay’s request, I did contact TCB Courier and they have assured me that neither they nor Jay’s Cheesesteak keeps any amount of the delivery charge, that it all goes directly to the delivery person. I am glad to hear that, and I have adjusted my review to reflect my overall dining experience, which is well above average. They do have consistently tasty food. You may ask, «How did you get that idea in the first place?» The answer: from three different delivery people over a span of some months. One said he got nothing, two said they only get a dollar. I am upset that I got such wrong information from what I believed to be the most reliable sources, whether out of ignorance about their own pay or in order to coax another dollar out of me. But I have since heard from some deliverers that those originally surveyed were wrong. If you deliver for TCB and would like to give me the same or a different version, please message me. Suggestion for TCB: For those that do charge a «delivery fee,» perhaps it would be a good idea to post prominently on Grubhub or Eat24(perhaps right next to the delivery fee charge?) exactly how much of the fee goes to the delivery person. Maybe put it on the receipt?(They can do that, you know.) Thanks to TCB and the delivery persons who contacted me. Again, I am very glad to retract the previous and update this review.

Best Cheesesteak in SF hands down. The Mission St Cheesesteak is the best one imo. The garlic really makes the sandwich delish. They’re always pretty fast too, but I’ve only been late at night before closing. My bf swears by the pesto sauce they have, so give that a try. I only wish I could order Jay’s for delivery, since my house is so far in the outer sunset.

If you want a fantastic cheesesteak, you found it. I opted for the mushroom cheesesteak(minus the onions) and it was fantastic! Wow — it was so good! Next time, I’ll hold the tomatoes and lettuce — but that’s just a personal preference. I might even add extra cheese — because it would just be super yummy. I also ordered the zucchini sticks appetizer that comes with ranch dipping sauce. They were really good! Honestly, it was too much yummy food. I look forward to trying this place again and enjoying another cheesesteak or something else on their menu — they have lots of options! Enjoy! Note: order placed via Eat24

Finally! A real honest to goodness(such goodness) cheesesteak in SF! Hoorah! This was just what I needed, the rainy evening, the availability of delivery, no troubles. From the moment I opened the bag my nose met the garlic fries, and sight unseen, I was in deep like and falling. Then I spied the cheesesteak and my fickle stomach gave a lurch of anticipation… come to me, baby! The rest is a blur, the lingering wonderfulness permeates my kitchen and my belly. Taste buds are standing down, satisfied with their performance. Until next time, Jay’s! You folks rock! Enjoy!

Love the cheesesteaks! Better to call and order by phone to pick up since parking can be tough sometimes.

I ordered online for delivery. I highly appreciate that they do not have a delivery minimum. I forget to bring food to work on the weekends quite often and I wont order if there is a $ 20 minimum because I don’t need that much food and don’t want to spend that much. Right when I was creeping up on the«Where the f*** is my order» feeling, the delivery dude called me. He was very nice. There were plenty of napkins, which is also appreciated greatly. I ordered Jays Favorite Cheeseteak. The sammich was a bit smaller than I though it would be but its absolutely delicious. I will definitely keep this place in mind and be ordering again in the future.

Classic cheesesteak hole in the wall. As soon as I walked by I got the vibe as if I was in Philadelphia about to compare Pats to Gino’s. Call me high class but something about San Pellegrino and Cheesesteak soothes my soul. I can’t comment for the dozens, if not hundreds of items on the menu. Cheesesteak did it for me!

Cash only. Decent cheesesteak sandwich. Was overwhelmed by the menu at first… but then was totally confused when he asked me if I wanted lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, and mayo on my cheesesteak. Did I wander into a Subway? Typically when I get a cheesesteak… the question is, «with or without onions?». I’m not complaining, I guess I had different expectations. The cheesesteak was okay. It had a fair amount of meat… wasn’t loaded but definitely not skimping. Was just an average cheesesteak. They do have a lot of other sandwich options. May be back to try some of the other sandwiches, but definitely going elsewhere for cheesesteaks. They do have excellent curly fries.

Holy shit the Mission Cheesesteak is so fucking delicious. LIke I can’t even describe the yumminess! Mushroom, mayo, onion, cheese, and steak. Came out steaming hot along with our chili cheese fries. So gooddddddddddd!!! Originally I wasn’t too hungry but I HAD to finish the cheesesteak. And I especially love the soggy bread with the cheesesteak(I’m a weirdo). But fyi, they are cash only, but they do have an atm machine inside. And a bathroom to wash your hands after riding bart. :P
