Most delicious hamburger in the Bay Area. They put herbs and spices into their meat and cook it fresh on the grill. Fries are seasoned well and large. Hamburger topping has feta cheese lettuce and mayo.

Blah Greek food. The Baba ganoush was weirdly cumin-y, the pita bread was not great, the tzatziki was basically yogurt with very little flavor, the hummus was fine but not great. The tabbouleh was really sour and barely edible.

Hmmm… I’m not one to ever do bad reviews but this place deserves a slight one. And it’s solely on the food. The good thing is they knew what gluten free was but I got falafel and hummus on a plate and the falafel was so bland that it literally soaked up the salt in body to make up for its own lack of it. Pass this place up, not worth it.

Tried this place for the first time today. I avoided going there because it looks like a chain from the outside. Inside it’s nice and simple(and pleasant) and the food is actually really good. I had a veggie wrap which is a variation on the falafel and includes eggplant and Dolmas. I asked them to put their hot sauce inside which is kind of my determination of whether it’s worth going back to one of these places. Most definitely! Hot sauce is excellent, and they put plenty inside, and a waitress even offered me more. That’s the way to do it. I think a lot of people walk past here because of the corporate looking pictures in the window. They are missing out!

Fast services, awesome lamb skewers. The salad is meh, the olives inside are kind of beat up. But the star of the lamb kababs is lamb, and they do a great job there. Soft, juicy, umami.

Came here for lunch and had the beef and lamb gyro lamb and the rainbow appetizer. 13 $ for a small appetizer with 4 small pieces of bread and everything was bland. The gyro wrap had little meat and little flavor. Disappointed. So many better mediterranean restaurants in the city.

Hummus wasn’t creamy chickpea heaven good, just aight. The lentil soup was rich and creamy, different than what I expected. Solid, but different. The Greek salad was decked out in yummy veggies and feta. Nice surprise.

I like their combo. Tried this place twice… before writing this review. It’s simple good portion size.

Perhaps the worst lamb gyro I’ve come across. Bland and dry even after adding extra tzatziki for $ 1(which came out as a little side container). On the plus side, instant gratification but I would bet a 7-eleven version would be more satisfying.

Chicken Gyro was the consistency of chicken jerky. So dry and without taste. Felt like the had it set out for a while before serving it. I had to buy a side of that white sauce to give it flavor. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, nor shall I ever come here again.

This place is great! The Chicken Gyro is simple, straightforward and good. I also recommend the Combo Gyro. Also, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is just fine. I’ve been to the Mediterranean many times and this restaurant is quite tasty. If you go into it with the mindset that you’re getting something healthy and quick to eat, and you’re not sitting down for a fancy 5-star restaurant experience, you’ll come out quite satisfied. This place is also great for take-out!

I actually liked this place when they first moved in. The food was good and reasonably priced. But my last couple of visits were so disappointing that I doubt I’ll return. I recently had the chicken gyro plate. The chicken was so dry and tough, it looked like it was sitting in open air for a while before it was served. Almost inedible. I came back and gave them another chance, this time ordering the beef/lamb gyro wrap. The pita was so stale it was difficult to chew. The meat was pretty good this time, but the slivers of tomato in the gyro were so insubstantial, I almost missed them. Not worth anywhere near $ 9. On a positive note, the staff is friendly, the bathroom and dining room are clean and well kept.

Disgusting low quality food — every single item we ordered sucked. Falafel with no taste, under-cooked gyro with bland taste and unknown source, watery tehini with disgusting after-taste, sticky pita bread. Only the salad was decent, but I can chop some vegetables at home too. Stir clear from this place.

I know I’m going to get crap for this, but I’ll say it anyway: it’s mall-quality Greek food at best, with little authenticity or originality. I started with a side order of dolmas(stuffed grape leaves). They were mushy; if you could have a cold version of a TV-dinner-style appetizer, this would be it. My gyro platter was good, but predictable. I love the lamb/beef mixture, probably provided by the same company that sells meat-on-a-spindle to every Greek place in the country. The Greek«salad» provided with it was a bunch of iceberg lettuce, a couple of tomato chunks thrown in, maybe a tiny bit of cucumber and feta crumbles, and a generic vinaigrette. The rest of the plate was filled with white rice. Here’s the weird part. The tzatziki sauce? AMAZING. There was extra dill in there, giving it a little extra zest I haven’t encountered even in Greece! In short, this was a disappointment, but again, with the word«Xpress» in the name, I should have known what I was in for.

I got delivery from this place. It was amazing how little time and effort was put into my order. I got the«Lamb & Beef Gyros Plate» and what came was lettuce that looked like it came straight out of a ready-made salad bag, cold rice, and a few shavings of meat. That’s it. I’ve paid the same amount for a much better Mediterranean plate. It doesn’t seem like this place cares what they’re serving. see ya.

Came in not knowing the star status on Unilocal so had low expectations and frankly really care. The chicken kabob plate was awesome and service was nice, quick and friendly. Would definitely try again when strolling the Castro.

Best lentil soup in town! And thank god they finally came to their senses by serving JUST beef instead of mixed with lamb. If anything, I keep coming back because they’re very friendly and sweet. Yay!

This particular corner of Castro and 18th has seen a whole lotta turnover in the past few years — Ritz Camera, Soup Freaks, Kpop, even the LGBT museum before they moved into their more permanent digs down the block. Nothing seemed to stick, but Gyro Xpress looks like they may be here for a while probably because everyone likes a Mediterranean fast food option. The convenience factor has brought me back a few times over the past several months, most recently this past weekend, and I felt the same way I did the first time I tried it. Basically, I think the food is pretty good, but I find the service lacking. I’m not usually that sensitive at what is basically an order counter set-up, but I have yet to see a smile in my direction or any acknowledgement of gratitude for providing them business. I think I’d prefer they act like they do at the Wiener Circle in Chicago where they hurl insults at you. Then I could recycle some of Triumph the Insult Dog’s classic comebacks their way. But indifference is hard to react to, so I’ll just accept my status as a non-entity here. With that in mind, the food has worked for Jamie W. and me whenever we are in the mood. The $ 10.95 Lamb & Beef Gyros Plate satisfies just fine with shards of tender meat accompanied by rice, salad and a big ramekin of their yogurt sauce(photo: ). I liked the $ 14.95 Shish Kebab Lamb Plate a lot because the meat chunks were plentiful and tender(photo: ). We were marginally healthier on our last visit when Jamie ordered the Greek Salad with an add-on of Lamb & Beef Gyro which brought the price up to $ 11(photo: ). With more lettuce and no rice, he didn’t feel it was as good a deal as simply ordering one of the gyro plates. I tried the $ 10.95 Vegetarian Moussaka and got a good-size slice with salad and rice(photo: ). It’s all good, satisfying and works in a pinch, but I know we would be here a lot more frequently if we thought my business was appreciated a bit more. A little extra effort goes a long way with us. FOOD — 3.5 stars… pretty hearty plates of food pretty well executed AMBIANCE — 3 stars… fairly standard operation SERVICE — 2 stars… their current shortcoming TOTAL — 3 stars… indifference thy name is Gyro Xpress
