It’s an open air bar, a little too small for the crowd it receives. I didn’t like the music they played — they were cycling through Beyonce, missy elliot, and Sean Paul for close to 90 minutes. The bartenders were really nice, but the long Island iced tea they made was the most potent I’ve ever had. It only had alcohol.

Located in the heart of the Castro. Pros: Juke box, pool table, and dual bar with outside patio. Lots of tvs and a happy hour with reasonably priced beers and wine. Cons: can get very crowed during sport games and the outside patio can get stuffy when everyone begins to smoke cigs. It also becomes very difficult to get a drink during rush hour.

This is a really cool bar to hangout with some friends. The place is small and can fill up quite fast but the outside patio is just too cool not to hangout at especially those warm clear nights. The drinks are really strong and cheap; i ordered a Jamison and ginger ale and i swear all i tasted was Jamison haha. If you don’t like the smell of cigarettes this is probably not the place for you, since this is a patio bar you’ll be surrounded by cigarette smokers but if you have no problems with it you’ll definitely enjoy yourself. When i went on saturday night they were playing old school ’95 alternative songs and the music video projected on the wall. The Mix is just as it’s name with a total different mix kind of crowd along with different mix of music genres they play compared to the normal bar and clubs around the Castro which really set this place apart from many small divey bars around the area.

I love coming to the Mix! Its one of my favorite bars in the Castro. they know how to make a stiff drink and they are affordable compared to the other bars. And they have a patio in the back with music. Its a great place to come and relax. Pretty much every time I go to the Castro I make a stop at the Mix.

Surprising really good! Here is what u should expect, a warm unglazed donut with ice cream inside. It’s not overly sweet and the donut is amazing just by itself. Believe it or not, I wouldn’t mind the donut by itself or the ice cream by itself. Both together is really good!

Castro dive, good happy hour. Drinks never disappoint. Good music or something interesting on the television. Cash only! Not a lot of space to sit, but there’s a pool table!

It’s a no frills smoky bar that sits in the center of All Things Castro. I love it. Cash only and a crappy ATM fee. Bartenders pour strong drinks. Frozen margaritas at all hours. Guys can get crabby on the patio if the place is overcrowded, but I guess that’s true with most SF bars. It really is a «mix» of customers, which for me is the best part. I can talk to people just to talk. I don’t like how polite they are to neighbors, though. Turning off the music on the patio at 11ish? Lame.

Stopped into my fav bar in the Castro and as always the Mix is the spot to Mix it up! The boys are grooving and the beers and shots are flowing. Keep your expectations low and feel the beat, you heard!

At last, a Castro bar that’s just slightly more diverse than most, with a far more lively and friendly vibe to match. Prices are fairly decent, and despite the fact that it can get quite busy here, I love how there’s never any reason to feel claustrophobic because the front windows are almost always open, and because there’s an outdoor patio in the back. In a neighborhood and, increasingly, a city where non-whites are often given the cold shoulder, or simply shoved aside, this place shows that there’s hope yet.

Nice open air bar, and great margaritas. I love that it is also pet-friendly during the day for a happy hour. Overall, the prices are good and drinks are nice and strong. Didn’t stay there past happy hour, but I am sure its fun.

Came here on a whim on a Saturday night because some friends and I were visiting San Francisco(me from Arizona, and them from Fresno) and their cousin who ended up meeting us by the Embarcadero, who then took us here. Friend’s cousin ended up meeting a friend, who we met his friends, and we ended up on the back patio which was nice. Liked that it had a more of a laid back vibe, than what I’m used to in general setting, especially a new place, and in a city you don’t visit often. I didn’t have a drink since I had been drinking since lunch, and then stopped by another place prior to coming here, but based on what I saw, they seemed to have a good selection of products. But, if you’re a lady, I’d be a little weary about the bathrooms. They are unisex, and guys can be a little messy. Oh, and it’s cash only.

I moved away from San Francisco about 15 years ago, but still visit several times a year. Back then, I think this place was called Charlie’s? Uncle Charlie’s? Doesn’t matter. Mix is always my first stop of the night and sometimes it’s the whole night. The drinks are great & the prices for, say Grey Goose, are nicely priced. I like the patio very much. It’s great for people watching and striking up random conversations with such a random crowd. If you wanna hook-up, you can do that. I have. If you wanna just people-watch, you can do that, too, and it’s a great place for it. It does get quite elbow-to-elbow as the night goes on, so get your spot early! If I had a vote, I’d beg them to accept credit cards… it’s a pain in the ass to hand over $ 200+ in $ 20’s, over the course of a night(even more, depending if I bring friends, or make friends) Also… imagine! People running a tab can be more generous, spending far more… I know some nights at other bars, I don’t even know what I spent until the next morning.

Sure its sticky and I regularly walk home instead of use the restroom here… But the beer is decent, the vibe is unpretentious, and the back patio is an AWESOME place to meet a group of friends on a Sunday Funday. They have TVs out there to watch football or(zzz) the Gigantes. No food… no problem — grab a pizza across the street and bring it over. I love that nobody feels out of place here and all can«come as you are» — in drag or in your workout clothes.

The Mix Is Truly The Heart Of Diversity In The Castro. Indeed, one of my Top 5 choices for, playing pool, mingling, having a smoke or having a good drink. This bar truly stands by its name, «The Mix» because it’s truly a mixed crowd. Old & Young Fit to Fat Black & White Daddies to Twinks The atmosphere is very chilled, Inside there’s a Pool Table, Full Bar & Great Music.(Top 40 — 90’s) They have an outside patio which I absolutely love. The audience there is very colorful and warm, meaning Nice Colorful Lighting with Heated Lamps, another Bar, and this is a Smoking section as well. There’s TVs back there to watch your sports games or music videos. If it’s raining don’t hesitate to not come out To this bar, «they have you covered, literally» When it rains, the outside patio is covered so you can still have that outside experience without getting rained on. The outside patio is really where the magic of The Mix happens… Wanna get a Way from the typical, traditional bars? The Mix is your destination. It’s a mellow bar. A local bar. A cash Only Bar And Last my favorite A FREEBAR…(No Cover) So I recommend this bar if you’re just starting off your night or just need a nice relaxing night out. THEMIX… COMEMIXITUP… 5 Mixed Stars

I love it here. Happy Hour drinks are really, really cheap, it’s a nice and fun atmosphere with a loud outside patio. Absolutely relaxed place to go to when you just wanna grab a beer during the week. Longdrinks are as strong as they can get. You might wanna order a chaser on the side if you can’t take it.

Cash Only The Mix was the first gay bar I have been to since I moved to SF. This was certainly a unique experience that no words can really explain. I definitely felt out of place but thankfully the people I was with were cool and helped me to adjust. Apparently, drinks served in the Castro area are cheaper and stronger than most areas so that’s definitely a plus. They have a large space with a pool table in the main area and a great outdoor area with a second bar area. They play a good mix of music and allow you to smoke outside. The bathroom set up is co-gender Overall Thoughts A lively atmosphere serving reasonably priced drinks with a heavy pour
