This is an awesome vendor at the farmer’s market, made more so because they don’t have a location in the city and are only here during the market on weekends. The food is made fresh to order and there are tables nearby for eating, so it’s a good rest stop while buying groceries here. They are friendly and have a large menu that would take a while to go through, so I just went for the lamb taco and the huarache with cactus salad. The taco was not too cheap but really tasty and worth it with a good helping of meat strips, cilantro, and onion. The huarache was pretty unique – unlike the taco, the base is fried and crispy, and it’s a bigger as well. The variety of toppings went well with the cactus pieces, and I added a bit of the hot sauce as well. Finally, they have a number of drinks, and I went with the hibiscus, which was super refreshing.

This is a must try! I heard about this place from my über driver and decided to check it out. The food was outstanding and the customer service was even better! The guys gave us great suggestions and even threw in some horchata and Mexican coffee for us. The flea market is a little out of the way to go just to try this place out, but it was well worth it. I will definitely be going back!

Parking is difficult, but I liked the food. You can also get huaraches at La Fonda, 712 Irving Street.

The only reason they get one star is because i don’t have an option to give them –5 starts, i think anyone who eats there should get a complete refund including the tip. There food is not seasoned correctly and they are not authentic Mexican food, basically they are cashing in on the spicy MX food in a complete white dominant area. Tacos are really bad they don’t have Burritos and the salsa bar is worse then your options at IHop for maple syrup, please stay away from this place and try to find a drive through Taco Bell at least you will save your money while eating bad food.

So we decided to drive from the east bay over the bridge to find this food truck at the Alemany Farmers market to celebrate our son’s promotion at work!(I know what your thinking… a food truck at a farmers market for a celebration meal!) YES! That’s what we did and we loved it! We got there around 12:30pm and we waded through all the vendors selling fruits and veggies looking for the food truck. We soon discovered there was NO food truck but a BLACK tent that had no name on it but just a menu! I walked right by it determined to look for a food truck. The boys called me back and much to my surprise I found my favorite item on the menu… lamb! So of course I ordered a Lamb taco, chicken gordita and the boys ordered the large Huarache. One with Nopales and Alambre, Carne Asada &Alambre(make that 2) one was supposed to have chicken and Alambre but it came out with carne asada so we kept it. Didn’t want to send it back since we waited for our meal for about 15 mins. But that’s ok because the food was fresh! Good flavor and I really enjoyed the lamb taco. The meat was tender and flavorful! I would definitely order it again!(if we decide to make the 45 mins drive again) Not a lot of seating but we got lucky and found a table for the 4 of us. The boys found amusement in watching the cars parking next to us. A little pricey for a food truck…$ 60 for 4 items.

Not gonna lie, I saw this place on Check Please Bay Area and had it bookmarked for like two years and finally made it here due to an airport visit. Since the show raved about the huaraches, I made sure order the«sandal» with Tinga. I totally understand why pre-Colombian Mexicans named this dish after a shoe. Not only is this corn slipper shaped like a shoe, but it’s as hard as shoe leather! The plastic knives and forks have no business cutting into a huarache. I had to break out the safety glasses to make sure plastic shards didn’t shoot into my eyeballs every time I tried to cut into this monstrosity. The chicken tinga was pretty tasty, but man, I couldn’t get over the inedible corn sandal that it was served on. I might as well have been eating Flojos. That being said, I would venture back for the lamb soup or the chilaquiles, simply based on food that I saw other people eating. While my experience might have been three stars(or less!), some of the other food looked amazing.

Had to come and try them out after seeing«Check Please» I ordered the chiliquiles and my husband had the huarache. My dish was lacking flavor, it was dry and the chips were a soggy mess. The cost was $ 8 and $ 2 for the extras like meat. So not super cheap. My husband wasn’t excited about his dish either, the tortilla was super hard. All in all a super disappoinment. Will not be going back here again.

Delicious spot, when the farmer’s market is open and you don’t mind finger food without anyplace comfortable to eat it, or if you live nearby and want take-out. Newsflash for Unilocal: the Alemany Farmer’s Market is not in Bernal Heights, although it is nearby.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! Only 4 starts because I wish it was a restaurant and/or had a seating area. Their huaraches are the best in the city but they are only here on Sundays. They are always busy so expect to wait in line. They are fast and friendly and worth the trip. Parking is bad as its in a farmers market and parking is very limited, so it’s best to make a trip of it.

This is the place that you can call Authentic Huaraches specially the vegetarian kind like flor de calabaza, nopal, huitlacoche and the mushroom kind those are yummy. Oh also the cheese that they use is real Oaxaca cheese. The gentlemans’ that cook and serve here are awesome. This is so far the best place that is authentic. We also been to their actual restaurant across the golden gate bridge is pretty good too. for good food we will drive across town.

Even before this place was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover on the Travel Channel, I’ve been hitting this spot for a long time even before the check-in feature was available on Unilocal. Every Saturday, we’d hit up Alemany Farmers’ Market for some fresh veggies, fresh fruits, fresh apple juice, fresh eggs and maybe even some Balut. After gathering our bountiful harvest(sort of) and working out a sweat following Da Wifey, I’ll reward myself with having a quick bite or two. Hey, those bags of fresh oranges can be quite the workout. I often wondered what a Huarache was, and by my accounts they looked like Tacos on steroids to me. There’s plenty of options and I always mix it up with different variations. But one topping that I must always have is the fried egg. Oh yummy goodness. The yolk just oozes and saturates the whole enchilada and ties everything together like a fiesta in my mouth. And everything is made fresh to order with fresh ingredients. My tummy is always satisfied and always look forward to next Saturday so I can reward myself with some more Huarache Loco. I’m always crazy happy for this place. Da Bull approves you go loco.

After seeing this little team reviewed on Check Please Bay Area, I decided to give them a try while visiting the Alemany Flea Market. Their signature Huarache comes with a few choices including one called the Alambre for $ 6.75. Loved the freshly made oval huarache, a thick masa(hominy) meal freshly grilled and then covered with various ingredients. The Alambre is steak with chorizo, bacon, grilled peppers grilled onions and cheese. Large and delicious, the huarache itself is really different, not just a thick corn tortilla, but about 1/8″ thick, fried crusty on the outside but moist and tender just beneath. The bits of steak were not the most tender at times but overall very good and different than anything that is typical Mexican American. We also had a Pollo/Chicken enchilada covered with green chile verde $ 8. This was a large plate covered with shredded chicken, queso fresco, cilantro, onions and sour cream. It was good but for some reason not one of my favorite versions of this dish. Still this was a lot of fresh, generously proportioned food for relatively little and all of them were prepared when ordered – no pre-prepared/reheated stuff. And what was interesting was to see, of the 3 food places set up next to Huarache Loco, how few customers they had in comparison. I can see why. So if you’re at the Alemany Farmer’s Market and are interested in trying out Mexican street food, give these guys a try and let me know how you like them.

We were driving by and decided to take a look at the Alemany Farmers Market. We walked up and down each row looking at the offerings of fruits and veggies. When we got to where the food was, we recognized the El Huarache Loco from having seen it on t.v. Although we had already had lunch, we knew that we would have to make the supreme sacrifice and try at least one item. Our choice was the Alumbre Huarache with«everything». Service was relativley quick and friendly. After receiving our order, we found a place to sit and munch. It’s unfortunate that our first experience with Huarache was in an outdoor environment. The weather was cold and there was a steady wind. And since the Huarache is somewhat similar to an open-faced sandwich, the whole thing was lukewarm at best when we bit into it. We’re thinking that it would have been a lot better tasting had it still been hot. There were interesting flavors from the ingredients and sauces. We’ll have to try again on a warmer day or perhaps at a different location.

This is coming from someone who’s been burned by them twice already. They’ve a) moved to a different location during the Outerlands concert without noticing anyone on their website or social media and b) they run out of random dishes. TAKEAWAYS: — Call in advance to confirm they’re in the Alemany Market spot. — Their huaraches aren’t bad, but at $ 6, it’s kind of steep. The food is good, but for the hassle and the drive down south? Methinks not. I’d rather stick to Chinatown/Mission.

Absolutely Delish Sopes! To me, this food stand was the star of the show @ On The Grid — Ft. Mason. After trying out trendy fusion this ‘n that from a variety of vendors at On The Grid, I came to the inescapable conclusion that the Sopes I had here ranked at the top of all the terrific foods that I experienced at OtG this past Friday. The Sopes were fresh, with a wonderfully thick texture to the tortillas, and the choice of Alambre as my meat choice(bacon, chorizo, beef, onions & bell pepper) was so very incredibly delectable. I think I could have eaten five of these, if my money didn’t run out! I will defiinitely seek out El Huarache Loco wherever they will be in the future. Stalking? No, just hungry. =)

el huarache loco at alemany had a short line. menu: mexican street food: empanadas, gorditas, huarache, tacos, tlacoyitos con requeson, tostada, quesadilla, pambazo… note all items available all the time. sampling: lamb tacos(3.50) lots of lammie tastes on fresh flatbread like tortilla. with cilanto, cheese, onions. very tasty –beef gordita(5). lots of beef ala cubed ground beef, some chewy with cilanto, cheese, onions, on a spongy tortilla like bread. meat dry, not so tasty. frijoles refritos: –food not consistent. –had their tacos at another locale, it was fab! –cashier not totallly cognizant of prices of items. stay alert.

4 stars I guess it depends on what you order haha It has been about 3 – 4 weeks since I last tried this place but I still remember the taste of there lamb tacos. only few places I have been to are able to make a decent taco, this vendor is actually one of them, Their lamb taco is easily one of the best taco’s i’ve had in a long time, there are spots that make the regular carne asada(beef) and carnitas(pork) tacos that I frequent but this place takes first place for their lamb tacos, super juicy, lil gamey and for lamb that is hard to do, pretty solid mix of flavors on a tortilla. I would definitely visit this spot again for some of there lamb tacos food ***** for lamb tacos 5 easy price $ not expensive service **** they’re quick

Oh El Huarache Loco, why are you only at the Alemany Farmers Market? Let me tell you a little something about the huarache with cactus salad. Oh my. I’ve never had a huarache before, but it’s basically like dough stuffed with beans and fried. It’s ok, but no pupusa. But the cactus salad is the star of the show. I don’t think I’ve had anything quite like it. Tasty, spicy, and full of flavor. I also had a chance to try the carne asada taco, which was pretty tasty as well. Top it off with a horchata and I was in heaven… if it weren’t a cold and windy SF day.

#60 on the 20117×7 List: Huarache with cactus #59 on the 20097×7 List: Huarache with cactus salad –Tasty? The nopales here has a crunchy texture… lay it on the huarache flat boat — makes it a new Mexican food experience for me –Service: First-come, first-served. You’re welcome to practice your Spanish, haha. –Ambiance: It’s on the street… it’s at the Alemany Farmer’s Market on Saturdays… –Worth the trip/try? Parking is a pain but once you do score that sweet parking, take some time and walk around the other booths!
