Disappointing. This Italian food really isn’t that good. The lasagna was super salty and their bread was stale. Honestly, I’m not sure how you can be Italian and serve what looked like regular sliced up sandwich subs. The spaghetti«chitarra» was ok.

An AMAZINGRESTAURANT! Just so very sad right now, hearing that they will be closing on January 15… Unbelievable! What is the marina going to be now… Without them. Knowing some of the landlords, on chestnut street… It will be another coffee shop, beauty shop… Or clothing store. Just sickening after living here all my life. We will definitely miss you… Thanks for the memories, and the amazing food. Hopefully I will get to see you before you close. GRAZIETANTO!!!

On a Chestnut street being overrun by local restaurant groups, E’angelo is doing its part to preserve the neighborly feel of the Marina. It starts with a warm welcome and a handshake from the thickly accented Maître d’. As you walk further in to the restaurant your nose will be bitch slapped by the smell of the delicacies that await. Our favorites are the burrata appetizer, caesar salad, eggplant parm, veal saltimboca, vongole… just very fresh, simple, honest food for a fair price. The only downside is that the tables are packed in here and it can be tight when it is crowded.

A colleague highly recommended this place. I remembered this so when I saw a Groupon for E’angelo, I did not hesitate buying it. Of course, I waited until it was almost going to expire before asking my friend to join me for dinner here one Tuesday evening. It was early enough in the evening so it wasn’t too crowded yet. We ordered the burrata on buttered toast — love buratta and it was fresh, gooey and tasty at E’angelo’s! I ordered the clam linguini with shrimp added and a glass of chianti. The clam linguini was great by itself, the shrimp were kind of small — I would forego the shrimp next time, but the clam linguini was yum, sauce, clams, noodles were tender and fresh. Lastly, we ordered the tiramisu which tasted homemade — all of the flavors of the espresso, ladyfingers and cream came together so nicely. I am not a big dessert person but it was hard not to polish this off within minutes. Service was really friendly, helpful in making recommendations and they were real Italians! Grazie!

I think I’m being nice by giving them 3 stars. The service is great always checkin in on the table, filling waters, makin sure the food is fine… But the food isn’t anything id come back here for. The portions are on the small side especially for how much they charge for the food. I left this place wanting more food. I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the courses.

The girlfriend and I were doing an overnight in the Marina district, and after a visit to Nectar wine lounge, was stumbled upon this gem. The dining room is a bit cramped, but this wasn’t a problem for us, and the delicious food made up for it. We discussed a few different wines with the waiter, and eventually let him pick out a bottle for us after we’d narrowed down our choices… glad we did! The wine was excellent and went great with our dish. I had the veal parmigana, and the lady had a pasta and clam dish(which was also suggested to her by the staff). While she admitted she isn’t usually a clam fan, she left the restaurant exclaiming that it was one of her new favorite dishes. Overall this was a great experience, in a vibrant, cozy ‘cucina Italiana’. Great for a date night or a larger group. Will definitely be back next time we’re in the Marina district.

After a day at the horse races on Memorial Day Weekend, the boyfriend and I were ready for some filling, tasty food. Italian fit the bill, and E’Angelo’s was our pick for dinner in the Marina! We ordered: Mussels — HUGE black mussels, so good, with great orange sauce that we demolished with our bread. Red Snapper Special — Delicious, great presentation, with a side of potatoes and grilled veggies. Spinach Pasta — My first time ordering this. It was good and I loved the green noodles against the red bolognese sauce it came with. Too full for dessert, sadly! Spinach Pasta leftovers the next day were good as well. In a neighborhood such as the Marina, which is filled with plenty of new, trendy restaurants, it’s nice to still have an old school Italian restaurant as an option for a nice dinner. The staff was friendly and the owner even took the time to arrange our plate of mussels before I took my foodie picture. In my opinion, little details like this make all the difference in a dining experience. I wouldn’t call it my favorite, but if you’re in the mood for some traditional, no-fuss Italian food, E’Angelo Trattoria is a great place to go.

My husband and I went to this place a few times. It is only a few blocks from my house but I will never return there again. This is the reason: The owner was completely rude to me and I agree with Haley’s review. She stole the words from my mouth: «The service and smug(I’m going to speak unkindly about you because you don’t understand Italian factor) is off the charts! I have been to Italy 7 times and never have I experience the rude behavior by the manager and wait staff. They will smile at you and then laugh at your requests, and completely insult you. Not something I would pay money for. They were rude to my elderly parents too who were visiting from out of town and celebrating a Birthday dinner. IMHO, I’d rather spend the evening at Olive Garden, if that tells you anything. NOGRATZIE !!» The owner is arrogant and rude and doesn’t care for his customers’ feelings. He laughed at me and made fun of me because I didn’t know something in the Italian culture. «E’ Angelo» = «Eh, Angelo, I’ve had better!»

The neighborhood, location are good. The food is mediocre at best(add extra parmesan and salt to make it more edible.) I’ve been to every great Italian place in North Beach and all around SF. Pane E Vino is a much better bet for Marina/Cow Hollow. The service and smug(I’m going to speak unkindly about you because you don’t understand Italian factor) is off the charts! BEWAREOFTHISPLACE I came here with two girlfriends around 830pm. We were the only people eating. We order an app, 3 dinners and a bottle of wine. The food was disgusting… all i could taste was salt! The service was ok. When the bill came and we provided our credit cards. When i went to sign the receipt i noticed i was charged $ 27.00 more then the bill said and so was my friend. I said something to the owner and he said I was mistaken. He brought a calculator to prove it and of course he was wrong. He said he was sorry and said he would fix it. He said he could not provide me with a voided receipt. I checked my banking account and he never canceled the transaction.

The great thing about fresh ingredients that are simply prepared is that in general, they produce a dish that really shines because of its inherent freshness and simplicity. This is the case with E’Angelo. We were in the Marina District and were hungry but didn’t feel like going somewhere to preen with the rest of the madding crowd. Walking down Chestnut, we happened upon E’Angelo. There were a couple of tables available outside and it was a gorgeous, sunny day so we plopped down and were handed menus within 30 seconds. Thirty seconds after that, glasses were presented and filled with water. The menu is simple, not a huge selection but the choices were all solid. We started with a warm wilted spinach salad topped with bacon and blue cheese. The spinach was nicely coated with dressing but not overly wilted, so the leaves still had some good body to them(not like when spinach is fully cooked), more like fresh but warmed slightly. The bacon added a savory, salty aspect and the blue cheese backed it up, rounding out the salad with a nice creamy finish. Our entrée was a chicken paillard with arugula and Parmesan. Just three ingredients and it was amazing. The chicken breast was pounded thin and sauteed until lightly browned, then placed atop a mound of fresh arugula and topped with shaved Parmesan. Our service, you ask? Our server was beyond helpful and kind, and seemed to genuinely enjoy what she did. There was a table of two seated down the way from us and the woman at that table was whiny, irritating and needy beyond belief. Our server took all of this in stride and maintained a constant smile and pleasant, helpful demeanor. Myself, I was wondering why someone didn’t pop her just for being so obnoxious. We’ll be back!

I am a dedicated regular at this place — I’ve always wanted to be a regular somewhere so it’s really fun :). My wife and I spent a month in Tuscany last year and this place takes us right back. The food is simple and always delicious(especially if you catch their special Pici pasta when it’s available!). The prices are also super reasonable for a delicious sit-down Italian spot with fun atmosphere. And by far the best part about the experience is Fausto! He seems to be the mayor over there. Always so smiley and happy to see us(greeted with hugs and kisses). His family still all lives back in Capri, except for his brother who works at our other favorite Italian spot, Ideale, over in North Beach. Fausto makes us feel so at home and always wanting to come back. It seems there’s always some little surprise from him too. And his stories from Capri, along with the thick accent, are very hard to beat! Also, our favorite bottle of wine, the sangiovese, is only $ 26! The only two things they could do better is: 1. Have more Italian music instead of a general playlist of today’s US music. 2. Dim the lights a little bit. Other than that, absolutely out of the park. Grazie mille!

I’m so lucky to have this place down the street. Especially on these cold rainy nights. We needed late night carbs and protein for a race on Sunday and E’angelo delivered. It’s like eating at my grandparents house. And that is saying A LOT. LOVE the service. We had the chef, owner and renaissance man of so many talents they are coating the walls(yes, all the paintings) Claudio playing the role of ‘our waiter’ all night long. It was amazing. I almost hugged him he reminded me of my great uncle Angelo so much. the other two waiters who hung out by our table were amazing too. Funny, knowledgeable, just like home. The Spaghetti alla«chitarra»(four hour wild boar) was ridiculously good. And it’s the year of the Paccheri, who knew!(it was also delicious but I barely got more than two bites of it). Going back, no question. Maybe tonight or tomorrow since they offered to make us some special super secret off-menu items.(the suspense is killing me!).

3.5 stars When every place in the Marina is packed to the gills on Sunday morning, you can count on E’angleo to be seated fairly quickly. The basic Italian menu may seem lackluster compared to the new and happening restaurants in the neighborhood, but let me direct you to the generous serving of fluffy fritatta. Get the one with potatoes and leeks or sausage and peppers, but both will fill you up for sure. Order a french toast to share if you’re craving something sweet like we were. The $ 8 mimosa was heavy on the prosecco which I LOVED. If possible, grab seats outside on the sidewalk, because the interior is kinda bland. We also appreciate the fact that their menu is not overpriced. You can’t deny the slooow service, but our waitress gave us a slice of complimentary tiramisu(which was divine!) We’ll visit again for brunch when the opportnity arises, hopefully, the service would’ve improved by then.

Pros: Very good traditional Italian fare in an overly-trendy neighborhood. It’s nice to take a step back from all the crazy places next door and just eat a good plate of rigatoni with spicy tomato sauce, which is what I had. They can customize pastas for you and they’re much better than the tourist traps a neighborhood away in north beach. Cons: The service is as authentic as the food: you might wait at times, you might have to banter with the waiter, but that’s part of the experience… Fun: The atmosphere inside does feel authentic Italian, but not fancy.

I had brunch here with a girl friend using a TravelZoo voucher I recently purchased. The offer included 2 mimosas and 2 brunch entrees. I was looking forward to trying this family-owned, intimate Italian restaurant that I pass by on Chestnut Street regularly. The mimosas were a refreshing start to our day! I opted for the french toast(it was melt-in-your-mouth yummy!!) as my entrée and my friend ordered the eggplant parmigiana sandwich. Both entrees were substantial in size and could’ve easily been shared amongst two people. You DEFINITELY get your money’s worth at E’Angelo. Service was attentive and friendly. Al fresco dining is adorable on a beautiful, sunny day.

Wonderful little family owned restaurant. Went there on a food road trip up and down the west coast and was pleasantly surprised with E’Angelos. Very good service, good food, and in a cute little neighborhood. To read more on E’Angelo, you can check out my website through the link on my profile page.

While E’Angelo has a seemingly well priced menu… The steamed mussels in tomato sauce: bad, really bad. As in rotten? I couldn’t make myself eat more than two and I’m usually a fan. My friend’s ravioli– this was an entrée– arrived with 4 – 5 raviolis on a massive plate. The portion size of my pasta with pesto sauce was equally small. Really, because this place didn’t seem all that fancy! We heavily relied on the bread basket to get through this meal. Eh. Not a fan.
