For another fried chicken spot in the Bay area, I thought Dat Spot was pretty good! I think the service was just okay because our guy was new, but our server was super nice and enthusiastic so that made up for it. The dry rub ribs were pretty delicious and tender, but the chicken was super moist with crispy skin. So good! Definitely get truffle honey for your chicken and get the smokey mac and cheese and brussels sprouts as sides. You can get half a rotisserie chicken or a full one fried up, but the chickens are honestly kind of small. Half a fried chicken between 4 people was like nothing, so it was a good thing we ordered so many other things! What’s interesting is that Dat Spot also has a ramen section on their menu! We definitely weren’t expecting that at a comfort food place, and we didn’t get any since we had come for the chicken and waffles. We were sitting right by the kitchen so we saw the ramen getting made, and it actually didn’t look too bad! You’ll probably be more full on their ramen than off of their chicken, but Dat Spot’s crispy chicken and yummy side dishes won me over.

CLOSED — Sadly it looks like they’re shut down. They were great, what a shame. We came by on New Years day after seeing a post on Facebook and theyvwere shut. We figured it was a scheduled post snafu, but coming back for dinner this evening, the doors are still shut and the tables/chairs look the same as before. So sad, I hope chef Brendan and the rest of staff find new gigs soon.

I’m local, pretty picky, and try to eat healthy while eating comfort food out. I dig this spot. The menu is diverse and has enough protein to satisfy gym bunnies, but good comfort food when you’re hungover and need it. So I am told. :) Small space, but great spot for a date.

I am obsessed with the fried chicken! AND the fact that I can get it in a waffle rather than regular bread makes me so happy. Best thin waffle I’ve had in ages! Had the meatballs as a starter and they are delicious too. The restaurant itself is small but service is quick and you never feel rushed. I also like watching them cook the food. Can’t wait to try more of the menu!

Got take out from here tonight. Overall the food was pretty good but I don’t think the food holds up well to take out and I’ll try going to the restaurant before writing this place off. The bone marrow was a nice appetizer– good portion and well roasted, with a bonus of roasted garlic, which was nice. The biggest bummer is that they forgot the crostini, so I had to improvise with Costco crackers and leftover waffle from the sandwich. :-\ We also got the Thai mussels which were delicious. The fried chicken waffle sandwich was good but not super flavorful. The chicken was nice and juicy. The waffle probably suffered from transport, and was a little cool and crunchy by the time we ate. Still bummed about the lack of crostini for the bone marrow. Arg.

this is a very small place. indoor seating has 2 tables for 2 ppl right next to the door and a long counter that seats about 10 or so ppl. on the other side of this counter is literally the kitchen. the outdoor seating has 2 tables for 2 ppl each. but, dont let the size of this place cloud your judgement. the food was great! comfort food at its best. as first timers we decided to get the roasted bone marrow, ahi tuna tartar, fried chicken and half rack of ribs. we loove bone marrow so that was a definite must. the bone marrow was huge. it was the biggest bone marrow weve ever had and actually it also had the most marrow too. we couldnt even finish the 2 pieces. this has to be the first time we didnt finish grilled bread with bone marrow. this dish was definitely worth the $ 12. the ahi tuna tartar was also generous in size. usually you have more chips than tuna but this time you have more tuna than chips. and some places have more avocado than anything but the ratio of the avocado was perfect. definitely more tuna. very fresh and tasty dish. the fried chicken was a must since all the reviews rave about it. and they are absolutely correct. the chicken is one of the juciest ive ever had. fried chicken however can only be order half size. i wish a whole chicken fried was an option but that option is only for rotisserie chicken. all chicken come with 2 sauces and 2 sides. we decided on truffle honey, chicken gravy as the sauces and carnival corn and smokey mac n cheese for the sides. i was surprised at how much i liked the truffle honey with the chicken. the gravy was just ok. the carnival corn is similar to elote and was also very good but the mac n cheese was just ok. the mac n cheese was my least favorite and next time id order the garlic fries instead. we also ordered half of the ribs. theres a variety of sauces to pick but we decided on the cherry cola bbq sauce. the ribs were soo soft, fall off the bone type of ribs and the cherry cola flavor was just the right kick. my only complaint is that the table was so small for all our food. i felt a little rushed to finish the appetizers before we got the rest of the food. this restaurant knows the true meaning of comfort food. we definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back to try more of their menu! btw, parking right outside is not metered! an even better plus!

Everything we ate in here was finger licking delicious, but the thing that will force me to return again and again was the rotisserie chicken. Best chicken of my life! Makes every other chicken taste stupid and disgusting in comparison. Also loved the matzo ball chicken soup. Yum.

Terrible food. The Matzo balls in the soup tasted like they had meat in them. The fried chicken sandwich was a disaster — thigh meat bludgeoned to a tough death, then fried and served with a stale overly sweet and super flat waffle. Absolutely underwhelming food on all levels. Service was fine but the food really overshadowed the experience.

Delicious. Unpretentious. And exactly what you want to eat. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and the pastrami hash. Yum. We enjoyed watching the head chef manage so many things at once in such a tight space. Always a pleasure to see someone who is REALLY good at what they do. They are serving brunch(and ramen!) on weekends.

the chicken. oh «dat» chicken. its delicious. the green hot sauce is also delicious, as was the circus corn. what is disappointing about this place is their decided lack of vegetarian options, which keeps me from«dat» chicken. because if the husband can’t get something substantial to eat(you know, other than three faux eggplant meatballs) then i don’t get to enjoy this place as often as i like. And sorry salads don’t count! Ask any vegetarian if salad is a preferred meal rather than a before dinner course and I’d bet unless they are dieting they would say no. i don’t get it. there is vegetarian american comfort food. every other restaurant under the same umbrella has more than one vegetarian option and they are substantial. get it together dat spot, so i can enjoy more of your chicken!

This place is a solid neighborhood restaurant that I wish San Francisco had more of. My 5 star rating isn’t meant to indicate it stacks up to a Michelin Star restaurant but rather an indication that it does well as a neighborhood restaurant that serves rotisserie chicken and its food is solid for what it is. It is quaint and small. The staff didn’t seem overwhelmed when I was there as other reviews have suggested and the place was full. I guess I don’t really rate a place based on that but rather the food experience itself. Fixing staffing is easy.

I got in on a Thursday night at 6:30 pm and there was no wait. Since it was a chilly night I chose to sit near the kitchen at the bar where it was nice and toasty. We ordered tuna tartare to start. It was tasty. For my entrée I got the fried chicken with truffle honey. The chicken was juicy and the skin was delicious and crispy. My friend ordered the rotisserie chicken and that was equally amazing. Our two sides were the garlic fries and Brussels sprouts. By accident they gave us the roasted«fat» potatoes. I’m so happy that we got to try this. The potatoes were soaked in rotisserie chicken broth and were delicious. We ended our meal with pecan pie which sat in a pool of delicious caramel. Our dinner was accompanied with a glass of champagne. Food was great and the environment was cozy.

I was stricken with sadness when I heard Chez Maman was closing. Where else was I supposed to get my mussel + pomme frites fix? My sadness was briefly allayed when I read the owner would keep the same space and simply convert it into a new rotisserie concept. I vaguely remember reading somewhere it was originally called«Chez Maman Rotisserie». I am very glad they changed the name; I am a huge fan of its replacement. There’s literally something comforting about finding a solid place for«comfort» food. The fried chicken here was one of the best fried chicken dishes I’ve tasted in the Bay Area. There’s almost nothing in this world that would *not* taste better if you drizzled some honey on it – so don’t skimp out on the $ 2 for the truffle honey! Not to be confused by Drake’s Truffle Butter, the truffle honey makes the fried chicken hit the dime plus ninety nine mark. The chowder and mac & cheese were solid additions to my meal, but nothing entirely special. My one complaint was the lack of marrow on my bone marrow, but reading other reviews makes me think it might have been an off night(I did order fairly late). Overall, I’m really impressed with the kitchen & service at Dat Spot, especially since it just opened. The food was on point and I would definitely make an effort to come back and try everything else I missed. One tip — be prepared to walk the very steep street in Potrero Hill to get there. But it’s well worth the burn in your calves for the comfort in your stomach.

The 90s called; it wants its songs back. But it can’t have ‘em till I’m done dancing through my entire meal. TLC, Biggie vs Tupac, Naughty By Nature, Petey Pablo, Fresh Prince, dip you dip we dip, & tons more from chef’s spotify kept the #webe grubbin’ on lock. Some flavor profiles(read: way sweet where you’re expecting savory) aren’t for everyone. But I was down bc #eatweird #gogrossorgohome #basiceatersneednotapply #suckas. Kiiiinda like straw minus donuts x circus antics. (^_^) BBQ Pulled Pork Waffle Sando $ 12( ) Sweet. Would prefer thicker waffles. (^_^) Babyback Ribs $ 11/$ 22( ) Desserty meat. Plus #datcoleslawdoe. (^_^) Iced Tea $ 3( ) A necessity. Bottomless. (-_^) Grilled Hanger Steak $ 21( ) As rare as possible. Fries #skippable. Contender for my #straightfromthegym resto rotation. You know if some Missy Elliott or 12 Gauge #pretendyouknowwhothatis came on, I might’ve had to go #drunkwhitechick status & start dancing on the tabletops. dat Dat Spot doe!

Ok, so I was tempted to give them a four star rating because they’re still a bit slow on service and the clam chowder was not quite up to snuff for my lovely lady. However, the meatloaf was amazing and it has made me a huge fan of this place. It’s hard to impress with me meatloaf and any time I order it while out I do so with trepidation: my Mom makes the best meatloaf I know of, so other meatloaf has to be pretty impressive. Fortunately, their meatloaf was perfect for me: great spices, wonderful garlic mash, and a delicious gravy. Would definitely get it again. I’ll have to come back and try the chicken, as it seems to be a very important part of the usual offerings. I also like what they’ve done with the décor. Compared to the Chez Maman days they’ve done a good job lightening up the interior and generally making it feel slightly less compressed.

Gah-damn, gah-damn, one-week old Dat Spot Rotisserie flourishes in ways some SF restaurants don’t in a lifetime. For being in its opening week, this place has certainly got its shit together. And the kinks & snags associated with growing pains — they seem to either posses none, or they’ve hidden it extremely well from their patrons, all of whom are sitting a couple feet from the lively kitchen activity(surely you remember the old Chez Maman counter seating.) We ordered: – bone marrow($ 12): he loved piling fatty marrow on a base of roasted garlic spread on crostini – onion rings($ 7): coated in an impossibly airy, but substantial batter; nicely salted. – pork chop w/applesauce($ 17): gets his stamp of approval – ½ rotisserie chicken($ 17): moist & delicious on its own, but the two sauces I chose lent the best opposing flavors — rich, savory chicken gravy & herbaceous, refreshing chimichurri. Accompanying sides rounded out our comfort food experience. Bacon brussel sprouts & smokey mac & cheese were excellent & served in reasonable portions. What’s your secret, Dat Spot, to opening without the chaos & extended wait times for food? How are your dishes buttery & seasoned & yummy, executed in a manner comparable to successful veteran eateries? ‘Cuz you need to bottle that secret & sell it, alongside your baby back ribs, grilled hanger steak, & fried chicken. I’ll be back to try those items, & when I do, you can whisper your secrets in my ear.

Walked in on the second day they were open and was pleasantly surprised. The ribs were our favorite. The fried chicken was excellent as well. We sat at the bar and loved watching the food being prepared and talking to the chefs. Will be back to try more.

Our first date started at a wine bar, proceeded to a lounge and ended up at a club. The night was a complete blur. Our credit card bill the next day wasn’t. We didn’t end up in the slammer from that night’s shenanigans so he asked me out on a second date. I suggested Plow. When we arrived, he said, no to the 2.5 hour wait. We walked a block to Chez Maman to have lunch and the rest is history. Except I will never forget him devouring that burger like a primal savage. Couldn’t he have waited till the 3rd date to unleash the beast? Pass forward 3.5 years, Chez Maman has moved into a bigger space and their old space is taken over by Dat Spot Rotisserie & Comfort Food(same owner) which grand opened today. We sat in the same spot outside but this time we our new addition, Tater Tot: . If you’re familiar with the old Chez Maman space, it’s tiny with just four tables and counter seating. Not recommended for parties more than 4. Dat Spot’s American comfort food menu is extensive: soups, salads, bone marrow, ribs, fondue, clams casino, rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, steak, fish & chips, meatballs, and waffle sammies. Nothing is over $ 25 with most dishes in the $ 12-$ 17 range. Wine and beer only. Yay to another new restaurant that will leave you full(with leftovers) without burning a hole in your wallet! We started out with the Bone Marrow($ 12) which was filled with umptious beef butter: . Personally, I would have preferred a lighter parsley salad instead of the pickled veggies. I rarely, if ever order chicken at restaurants but since Dat Spot’s specialty is rotisserie chicken, we ordered a whole to share which came with choice of two sides(we picked Smoky Mac & Cheese, Chicken ‘Fat’ Potatoes) and two sauces(we picked Hot Sauce & Gravy) for $ 25: . Brined for several days, the chicken was slowly roasted until the meat was fall of the bone tender. Even the breast was really juicy. It was a tad bit too salty for me but Mr. NSS who likes his food well seasoned said, it was just fine. Would have been nice if the skin was crisp but I’m sure it will get there once they get into their groove. Accompanying gravy was rich and hearty. The house made hot sauce was tomato based and very mild. Mac & Cheese wasn’t smoky but it was cheesy and comforting nonetheless. The drippings from the chicken coated the potatoes creating a glossy glaze. Service was really friendly and the owner(s) were there to check in and make sure everything was ok. Oh yah, I washed everything down with a glass of Syrah($ 9): which was voluptuous with big bold, juicy flavors. So good, I ordered another glass and I rarely drink red wine. I didn’t fail you this time, Patti Stanger!
