I think this place has CLOSEDDOWNFORGOOD. On February 10th, the current owners posted something on facebook saying that due to a «family emergency» they would be closed for«a few days.» It is now Feb 25th and they are still CLOSED with no updates — word on the block is that the owners may not be reopening. They are sorely missed.

First of all, this isn’t a wine bar at all. It is a café that has wine. I know that sounds lame, but when you call yourself a wine bar, people expect a different environment then what you get at Coast. I went there one morning to try out their coffee and I got a latte, which was a bit overpriced, but I wanted to give it a shot. The guy who took my order seemed kind of confused, but was nice enough. When I saw them make my drink, I noticed that they did not grind the espresso fresh, but instead had a big pre-ground pile of it in a plastic container, which is weird and is a sure-fire way to make a nasty latte. When I got my drink and let it cool down, I took a few sips and it tasted kind of weak, like they did not put enough shots of espresso in it. Not horrible, but not right. I want to have hope for this place because it is in my neighborhood, but my initial experience there was less than satisfying.

Apparently it’s ok with the owner to let drunk guys kick you out when they want to close early. Went here with friends on Friday around 9:30. Immediately after ordering a drink a drunk guy started yelling«Bar’s closed» when the sign said the bar wouldn’t close for a couple hours. After being yelled at for awhile my friend asked the owner if the drunk guy was actually correct and this was how they were choosing to inform their paying customers. It was. Stay classy Wine Bar and let drunk dudes treat your paying customers badly when you want to close early.

The oysters. Seriously, the oysters. They’re expensive($ 15 for a half-dozen), but worth every penny and then some. I am not exaggerating-these are the best raw oysters I have ever had in my life, and I have had plenty. Atmosphere and service are good too, but I would give this place five stars if it was in a cardboard box considering how good the oysters are.

Not sure if this is «coast» of «sea biscuit», names of both were on the front and the walls. paninis being offered in the afternoon. shelves are lined with wines. pour: weaver coffee(2, 12oz)) –robust brew had a bit of acidity, still very drinkable. drips: –looked like a café, not a wine bar –friendly, helpful service.

I’ve been to this café as Sea Biscuit Café in the daytime and enjoyed it, but it’s an even better atmosphere at night! A few friends and I helped ourselves to a cheese plate with salami and cornichons. Super good! And chatted over some jazz playing on vinyl records. All we were missing that night was rain. I love the super friendly service, and a great coastal café vibe throughout the place.

I’m so happy that this place exists. The owners are a really awesome couple who know their wines, beers, coffee and foods. For years I was looking for something like this place, and I’m happy that they could bring such a good vibe to the neighborhood! I’ve been here multiple times for the coffee shop by day and wine bar by night, and I always leave there feeling pretty satisfied. Oh, and check out their oysters and cheese plates – they’re very tasty. :)

The Sea Biscuit is definitely gone. When I went into coast this morning to get two soy lattes, something I’d done innumerable times at this location over the past few years, it was pretty obvious this café was still a newbie. They were out of soy milk(but quickly went to buy some from the market next door), they were out of brown sugar, they had exactly two sissy mitts(that’s Sea Biscuit speak for coffee sleeves) which I used up once I got my lattes, and they had exactly three lids, of which I took two. So the next lucky customer will get soy, but no sissy mitt, no brown sugar, and will be the lucky owner of the last lid. Everybody after that better just bring their own travel mug. The records were a nice touch, and there were some tasty looking pastries that I may have tried if I hadn’t already eaten. Really though, all I want is a good latte, and I don’t want to have to walk all the way to Judah to get it. The two I got from Coast were on par with what Sea Biscuit had, which isn’t saying much because I wouldn’t rave about theirs either. This is a place I’ll definitely have to go back to in a few weeks to reassess, but in the mean time my coffee needs will be met by Trouble.
