Lycia is rad! My man had been going to her for months to get his dreadlocks tightened, and I finally gathered the courage to go to her for a haircut after 8 months of absolute fear due to several botched attempts from other hairstylists. She always does a wonderful job on his hair, so why the hell not?!
I brought a couple of reference materials, told her what products I normally use and how I usually treat my hair. She paid attention to every single detail. She also didn’t judge my slightly grown out roots or massive amount of split ends.
This lady is talented, attentive, personable and unpretentious. She also mainly uses Aveda and Knotty Boy products, which I absolutely approve of! I can’t stop sniffing and touching my hair and it’s been (almost) 24 hours.
Lycia’s prices are more than reasonable.
Highly, highly recommended.

Lycia is awesome! She recently did a dread perm and it turned out amazing!!! It was great to have perfect dreads instantly. She’s super friendly and her space is really cool ;)

The haircut that keeps on giving!!!
So, the last week or two I’ve been getting TONS of compliments on my hair!
«I love your hair!» and «did you get your haircut? it looks great!»
Amazingly, Lycia cut my hair 2 MONTHS AGO!!! I got a whole lot of compliments on the original do as well. :)
This to me is a sign of an absolutely incredible haircut that it will grow out for 2 months and morph in to something else and still look polished and new.
I’ve had my hair done by Lycia twice now (she was recommended by a friend) and both times were these beautifully crafted cuts that myself and everyone around me loved!
I can’t recommend her enough. Her space is awesome, she plays great music and she is sweet as can be. Lycia is a patient and gifted stylist and she smells like candy.

I just realized that I’ve never written a review for Lycia, despite seeing her for 10+ years.
Lycia is GREAT! She listens patiently while I yammer on about what I want to do with my hair.
And then she gently guides me towards the reality of what my hair can do. ;)
She never gives me guilt trips for going too long between cuts or trimming my own bangs.
She realizes I am a wash and wear kind of girl, and she doesn’t try to change that.
She is friendly and listens, but I don’t feel like we have to keep a constant stream of chatter.
And her shop is simple, cool, relaxing and peaceful.
Can’t imagine going anywhere else!

I completely agree with all the other great stuff that’s been written about Lycia here! I’ve been going to Lycia for cuts & highlights since 2006 and have no intention of ever looking elsewhere. The quality of her service is great, and a great value compared to other high-​quality options in SF. Also, I find her voice very soothing for some reason, which adds to the relaxing vibe of her space :-)

I moved to San Francisco about a year ago and was really hesitant about finding a hair salon here. I would actually go back to the east coast for trims — tragic. I finally took a chance on Lycia and did not regret it.
She was inquisitive, but not pushy, helpful, but not condescending, and friendly, but not annoyingly talkative. She took the time to really get to know my crazy curly hair and worked with me and my current habits on how best to tame my hair.
She gave me a great cut at a great price. I have finally found my salon in San Francisco!

Lycia is an amazing hair stylist. She has been cutting my hair for many years. I even worked at a salon, and have never had better hair cuts. I would not let anyone else cut my hair.

I’ve been going to Lycia for some time now, since she was at On Mars and may I say Lycia you are THE BEST!
I have really thick short hair, usually hair stylists can’t deal with my crazy hair, Lycia, can always work her magic. I think it may be her prior training at a barber shop, expertize in coloring and dreads, and owning her salon in Chicago that make Lycia one of the best in the city. He salon is really cute, she is super sweet, and best of all her doggie is always there to say HI to all her customers. All of my friends that I’ve sent to her, come back with amazing hair cuts and love her as much as I do.

I really love going to Lycia for haircuts. She does beautiful work with my curly hair and I trust her completely. She did a great job creating short bangs (that I get tons of compliments on!) and giving me straightforward, non-​fussy directions on how to style my hair at home. I never feel like I’m being pushed to buy products or get something more than I want, so I really feel comfortable. Lycia’s manner is kind, friendly and nonjudgmental and the atmosphere in her studio is comfortable and relaxing. I always feel like I’m getting a great value going to Lycia because I’m getting both a phenomenal haircut and a relaxing, pleasant experience. Before I started going to Lycia, I had I think one haircut over the course of five years; now I go regularly and find myself always looking forward to our appointments. And like I said, every haircut looks fantastic, so the proof is really in the pudding.

Lycia is amazing! I have been getting my haircut by her for many many years… back in Chicago and now out here in SF. I have had countless cuts over the years and every time I have LOVED it. She is one of the pro’s that are hard to come by!
Plus she’s super sweet and it’s really relaxing in her salon.

I have loved 98% of the haircuts she’s given me. Usually, if I don’t like something, it’s because I argued with her to do something she thought was a bad idea, but I wanted! So LISTEN to her — she knows what she is doing.
If you LOVE super-​talking hair stylists, Lycia might not be the one for you. She is relatively quiet (for a hair person), but is fun and relaxing. I think mostly she is concentrating on her «art» (aka your hair), and so I like it. She’s wonderful. I’d go so far as to say I have a hair-​cut-​crush (sort of like the hair equivilent of a man-​crush?) on her.

she does the most effortlessly cool haircuts and kick-​ass color. I can’t say enough about her fabulous-​ness. she is also, as the other reviews note, easy to talk to and has a great space. Her head massage rocks. The last couple of times I didn’t know what I wanted and she just did something that she thought would look great and it did. also, she has taught me to love my waves. you are lucky if you have found her.

I feel kinda bad that I haven’t posted this review a long time ago… I’m greedy and don’t want to share. Lycia’s awesome. I’ve been following her (no, not in a creepy, stalking way) from Maire Rua, through On Mars to her intimate new digs in the mission /​potrero. I change haircutters every 15 years or so; when I find someone truly talented, I stick with ‘em. She can even cut middle-​aged straight white guy’s hair and make it look both fantastic and casual. Thanx Lycia!!!

I had Lycia while she was still working at On Mars. She’s super nice and professional, and asks you very specifically what you want your hair to look like. She gave me a pixie cut and I was very satisfied. She also doesn’t make you feel like you ahve to chat with her. AND she has nice tattoos.
