Rest in peace, Café Que Tal. Another relaxed neighborhood business goes by the wayside. Very sad to see it go. Thanks for all the great years.

Another example of hippies rating poor service and poor attention to detail highly. First of all, the menu specifies two«Veggie Melts», one under bagels, one under sandwiches. I was in the mood for something small, so did not even scan the huge menu to see there’s two of the same named dish. Of course, the man at the register charged me for the more expensive one, automatically. When I ask, he does not know how to do returns on credit card… Of course… I got an Americano, was served in a glass water cup, fitted with a sleeve on the outside, seriously? They have the guts to ask for added tip, but every time your order comes out, you have to run to the counter to pick it up. I went once for the Americano, in a glass cup filled to the top, that I can’t even close. So I had to carry the hot drink, fearful of burning my already previously burned arm(Thanks to Martha’s Bros.). Then I have to run to the counter again when the lady is yelling«Bagel Melt» when they already charged me 2 dollars more for a sandwich melt. Then had to find out where the napkins are, since no one is bothered to put one next to the plate… Of course, keep asking for tip!!! Why are you asking for tip when there’s NOSERVICE? No place to hang your coat or bag in the restroom. No toilet paper!!! Oh wait, it was on top of the reservoir behind my ass. Obviously, took some time to reach to it in that position… Mission is a collection of these awful places that think they’re cool when nothing is proper. Guess this makes me a snob, but you know what, I am happy to ask for my money’s worth, and am doing great in life :)

Worst Coffee Ever. I ordered a latte and it pretty much tasted like a warm cup of milk. So gross, I couldn’t even finish the drink. On top of that, the atmosphere is blah with terrible country music in the background. Don’t even think about bringing your laptop and coming to work here. You’ll be too distracted with all the terrible things about this place.

Que Tal is my go-to café. It has the following advantages: — Quiet, low-key, non-pretentious atmosphere. I like the high ceilings and trickling fountain for soothing white noise. — It’s generally easy to get a seat – though there aren’t many outlets for your laptop. — Tasty coffee beverages and a selection of soy, coconut, rice, AND almond milk. I’m waiting for almond milk to supplant soy in other cafes – it tastes better! — Nice-looking selection of bagel sandwiches, oatmeal, fruit, and pastries, though I haven’t tried the food. Random touches I’ve enjoyed: — A tarot card reader had set up shop and was giving readings at a table there last time I went. — Good music. They played the whole«Twin Peaks» soundtrack, which put me in a very surreal zone.

Café Que Tal meets all my requirements for an excellent Wi-fi café: * fast Wi-fi * large number of tables * enough outlets * easy street parking * good selection of drinks * good selection of food * friendly baristas * chill vibe * A BATHROOM… well, you ARE drinking tons of coffee while you are there

This place is a decent café to get some studying done, however there are a limited amount of outlets FYI. The coffee drinks are decent, they seemingly have a pretty large range of drinks, and there are individual tables and plenty of chairs for reading or studying. The bathroom is kind of janky though(but what public bathroom in the mission is?). They close at 5pm everyday for«winter hours», whatever that means.

Good food, super friendly staff. A bit slow, as a result of said friendliness. Can’t come here super often because it’s only open during the daytime.

A neighborhood coffee shop that I make sure to visit anytime I’m up in The City visiting the fam. They have a large selection of food items and I’ve always been particularly fond of their lentil soup and their sandwiches. A couple of benches outside. Plenty of indoor seating, although the laptop crowd typically tends to hoard the tables for hours on end(what are you people doing? All the screenwriters are in LA). I will say that the prices are a bit steep($ 2.20 for a ‘large’ coffee that is more like a medium size cup at Coffee Bean?!) but then again, it’s SF. things tend to be a bit pricier up here. When I first started coming here, it was mostly an artist, true-hipster crowd, but nowadays as the edge of the Mission district becomes more gentrified it’s not at all uncommon to see a hottie sporting Lululemon tights after a run. The owner, Andy, is just an all-around great guy. And it shocks me that he always remembers me even though I only make it up here about every 4 – 5 weeks. So, kudos to you, Andy, you rock!

Okay, so I stop by this place every morning and order a banana and a large coffee for $ 2.70 total. Its usually rather empty when I get there(before 8) and Andy or the two cousins are always helping out with a smile. The coffee here is pretty damn good, and not expensive, and they make good espresso as well. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Philz, Ritual and Blue Bottle coffee just fine, but the guys over at Café Que Tal make their Mr. Espresso coffee just right and for cheaper. Also, they have a rather decadent fruit and yogurt setup that I had once on the weekend. My biggest complaint is that this place gets pretty freak’n full on the weekends. Then again, what place with free-wifi, good coffee and friendly service wouldn’t get full on the weekends in SF? Cheers!

Great little neighborhood café! Wonderful atmosphere, cute interior and friendly staff. The owner, Andy is so nice and genuinely kind. We love coming here whether it be on a lazy weekend day to sit and read the paper or grabbing a coffee to go in the mornings. Neighborhood gem.

Totally non-hipster like Ritual or Summit, but it’s quiet and has wifi and tasty snacky food and pastries. Gets more crowded in late afternoon/eve.

I went to Café Que Tal during NaNoWriMo to get out of the house for a few hours — I just ordered a couch and it hasn’t come so I spend hours writing in bed which is horrible for your back. I got a pot of tea(English breakfast then a Chocolate Pu-erh) and an everything bagel with cream cheese. As a New York native, I can honestly tell you their bagels are quite delicious. The tea however was all boxed tea which was slightly disappointing because I could have that at home, but they had good flavors and really, I was just looking to get out of the house. I LOVE the interior. It’s a lot bigger than it looks on the outside and most every table was full of other writers and people reading thick books, or thin iPads. Lovely place to just relax. I sat in the window seat which was very relaxing as they had flowers and pumpkins in the windows and the street outside has that lovely San Francisco/East Coast feel. Great place to work if you’re looking for quiet. Try the Mexican Chocolate!!! Scrumptious!

I visit a good friend of mine in San Fran as often as I can and she lives a block or two away from this place so we always pay it a visit. Our order generally consists of coffee and breakfast sandwiches, and my most recent visit was no different. I don’t really get the name. There’s not really a Spanish theme as far as the food or names of drinks are concerned. But, the walls are covered in pics of friends and family members of the owners that make you wish you were backpacking through Central America. They’re beautiful, real, honest. The service can be a bit slow and sporadic. My breakfast mate found her way to a bagel and cream cheese in about two minutes flat, while my sandwich took almost 10 minutes to deliver. It was delicious though, so I can’t complain too loudly…

This place is great. In fact, I’m here right now. I just moved in to the neighborhood and dont have internet, but i can come here, order a little teapot of earl grey for $ 2.49 and sit uninterrupted using the wifi for almost as long as I like. sometimes they play good music like Elliott Smith or Aretha Franklin, sometimes they play music more in tune with their name — always at a pleasant volume. Wish they had more options for cream cheese other than plain, but hey, im just getting greedy now. thumbs up all around for a unpretentious chill spot to sip a cheap tasty bev and use free wifi.

Great neighborhood café with a very comfortable atmosphere. Good menu, I usually get the tuna melt, the fruit salad with granola & yogurt, or a Mexican Mocha. The woman that owns the place is super nice. She always brings in an abundance of fresh flowers into the café and she promotes local artists by placing their work there. Go show her some LUV!

This place is honestly awful. First and foremost, the food is extremely overpriced and it’s never good, anyway. The place is right next to my house and I continue to give them more and more chances, but my experience is worse each time. First, they lie. One of the only reasons I ever used to go there was because they let me use the WiFi to do work. I think they have a new owner or new management — because there’s a new guy there who literally lied to me and said they never had wifi. I told him I used it just a few weeks ago, and he still maintained that I was mistaken. I gave him another chance to fix it, and he still lied. I swore I would never go back after that, but this morning, I really needed coffee and fast. So I walk up to the counter and say good morning, the guy doesn’t respond. I pay, walk away, he still hasn’t even said a word beyond«medium or large?» I walk a few steps away and stand there for about 5 – 7 minutes, thinking that when my coffee is ready, he’ll call me. I’m standing like two feet away from him the entire time and he doesn’t bother to mention that my latté has been ready for some time. So I walk over to the counter and ask him if that was mine, and he looks right at me(he’s less than two feet away from me, he definitely head me) and he doesn’t respond. So I ask again, and he just says, «uh… yeah?» in an incredibly rude, obnoxious way. I also just had the coffee — cold, bitter, and not even CLOSE to the quality of coffee(and service!) you would get a couple of blocks down at Café Fiore on 24th and Guerrero. This place, the service, the food, everything — awful enough to warrant my first Unilocal review.
