What a cute little spot. I work in Soma and this is a little trek of my normal path but today I decided to just walk around on my lunch hour and came across this café. The ladies up front were very pleasant and welcoming. The gentlemen in the back quickly made my Tomato and Mozzarella sandwich. It had pesto(yum) on an Italian roll. yummmmm. I also had a iced latte. I decided to walk back to work to enjoy it there, but«splat» there went my delicious coffee all over the floor of 4th street. I think I will be returning to café Madeleine in the near future.

I was so happy to find a café close to our hotel I could find excellent coffee and a yummy, decadent treat at that was GF. I ordered the chocolate torte and cappuccino which were perfect together. The torte was good, just super rich and sweet. My friends shared the chicken quiche, salad, a yummy looking cake-like pastry, a vanilla latte and mocha(complete with chocolate whipped cream) and loved it all. The employees were polite but very reserved. It kinda felt like we arrived at closing time or something, where they just want you out of there. The area is cute and I imagine offers good people watching from the seats out front when it gets busy.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a major sweet tooth. I’ve had several of Café Madelines cakes and cupcakes from previous jobs(which probably came from the New Montgomery and California Street locations), and I’ve been a fan of their sweets. I never thought too much of them to grab a lunch, but my coworkers really enjoy their sandwiches and salads. I was looking for a quick lunch after a doctor’s appointment to bring back to the office, so I decided to check out Café Madeline. It was about 12:15 and there was a line almost out the door. However, they made my salad very quickly. Which didn’t give me too much time to admire their sweets on display. I was so tempted to get one, but I refrained and just got what I came there to get, lunch. I got the chicken, portabello mushroom and feta greens salad. With tax it was just under $ 10. They gave a ton of moist chicken cut up into cubes, loads of delicious portobello mushrooms and organic mixed greens tossed with the appropriate amount of balsamic vinegar. Simple ingredients yet so delicious. Their salad menu is a little limited, so I hope they add more options. They also have a rotating deli case with assorted pasta salad and other cold dishes in addition to their sandwiches. They also have an express daily option of a soup and salad. I’ll definitely be back to Café Madeline to not only satisfy the sugar cravings but also to grab a satisfying, quick, and affordable lunch.

2.5 stars Very cute cups. Convenient location. Cute store and pastries looked good. Drip coffee was pretty flavorless and watered down. Good service.

Warning: I ordered a latte with Almond milk. I am allergic to regular milk. When picking up my completed latte, I checked in with the barista to confirm that I was being served the almond milk latte(as there were no other drinks around it, I wanted to make sure it was almond milk once more). When you have an allergy you tend to over ask to make sure what you ordered is what your are getting. I was VERY sick not too long after I drank it, the entire next day, and my body is still recovering today. Word to the wise to the employees… please.pay.attention! Or say your are out of stock instead of serving something else. Management, this is not acceptable.

I ordered a cappuccino and a chicken sandwich. The worst cappuccino I had in a long time. Bitter burnt taste, extremely hot, very fluffy froth on top, and the rest of it very flat. The chicken sandwich was pre-made and oily. The price is suitable for a grommet made to order sandwich.

A bit underwhelmed by the quality of drinks and food here. One of my friends told me to get the almond milk latte and any of their pastries or desserts. Not too impressed by the latte — essentially tasted like hot water and the tiramisu was not the best. I ended up just throwing everything away without being close to finishing. I must say given its location, this place is pretty convenient for a quick drink or snack — just don’t expect anything too phenomenal. However, I haven’t tried their sandwiches, which I heard were pretty good. Props for having cute to-go coffee cups though…

I’ve come here numerous times for lunch and have narrowed it down to two favorites: Cobb Salad, with substituted feta & mustard dill dressing & their Chicken Portobello Mushroom Salad. They’re quick with making it & tastes great! The only downside is that they only have stamp card for their sandwiches which are the same price as a salad… which I don’t quite understand. But besides that — love it here!

I use their extraordinary services to order birthday cakes for the office. The quality is good every single time. Their pastry chef loves what she does and takes pride in her creations. I wouldn’t use any other patisserie for cakes, theirs is the finest quality.

Lovely place. Came as a suggestion from a good friend. Ordered a chocolate croissant, hot chocolate, and spinach/goat cheese quiche. Chocolate croissant was okay(probably would not order again). I like my croissants flakier and the chocolate to be softer inside. Mine tasted like it had been refrigerated or kept overnight. Although it still tasted good, I felt the croissant dough was all wrong. The quiche was delicious. The crust was composed of a croissant-like dough, which was novel. It came with a beautifully dressed salad. The hot chocolate was very nice — not too sweet. The chocolate whipped cream that topped it was a lovely touch. Service was pleasant and prompt. Would come again.

My company frequently gets cakes etc. from Café Madeleine for our employees’ birthdays or other celebrations. Everything we order is amazingly good and we wouldn’t even think about trying another place. Recently we ordered their Strawberries & Cream cake, which is sort of like a strawberry shortcake, and it was great! I would recommend going here for large cakes or even small pastries. I have not yet tried any of their breakfast and lunch dishes, but I will!

I wish I had found this place at the beginning of my vacation and I wouldn’t have missed out on my favorite drink — chocolate whipped cream topped mocha from heaven ! I wanted to go this morning but tragically they are closed on Sundays. I also had a very large Cobb salad with fresh bacon, half an avocado, 2 large boiled eggs, blue cheese chunks and a very yummy dressing($ 8). It gets busy but well worth it !

4.5STARS I’m updating my review of Café Madeleine as this is basically my go to lunch spot when I need something quick and reliable. I more or less know I’ll be satisfied with their sandwiches and salads here. Some of my favorite sandwiches are: *Albacore tuna with capers, Balsamic-marinated onions and jack cheese on an Italian roll($ 7.50) *Fresh mozzarella and tomatoes with fresh basil and pesto spread on an Italian roll($ 7.95) *Grilled cheese with Havarti and cheddar served with creamy tomato soup($ 7.50) I adore the mozzarella and tomato sandwich. They use a lot of pesto spread, so I can really taste the basil. The mozzarella is milky and tender while the bread has a nice chew. If you want to make the sandwich even more substantial, you can add Turkey(+$ 3). The sandwich can get a little wet with the mozzarella and tomato, but I don’t mind it. I normally eat it right away, so it’s not a problem. The grilled cheese and tomato soup is super comforting. The tomato soup is creamy and savory. The grilled cheese, ooey and gooey. There was one time where they overcooked my grilled cheese on the panini press, so it was hard as a rock. But it’s normally super satisfying and comforting on a cold day. You can also add Ham(+$ 3) to your grilled cheese if you’d like a little more protein. The tuna sandwich is another go to. Their tuna salad is creamy and meaty. The cheese adds a nice meltiness to it. I mostly skip the onions as it adds a sweetness I don’t really prefer. But at times, it’s okay. They also have a daily express sandwich that changes every day. One of my favs is the salami with mayo, dijon and pepperjack. It’s a good size and a nice portion when I don’t want a giant sandwich. And I believe the sandwich is around $ 4. Not a bad deal for a light lunch. Just get there early as they can run out by 12:30pm to 1pm if it’s a good sandwich. I don’t get salads here as much as I used to, but some favs have been: *Chicken, portabella mushrooms, with mixed organic greens and Balsamic vinaigrette, no feta cheese($ 8.95) *Cobb salad with chicken, bacon, avocado, blue cheese, tomatoes, eggs and Ranch dressing($ 8.95) *Burrata cheese salad with mixed organic greens, tomatoes and pine nuts with extra-virgin olive oil, vinegar and sea salt, no beets($ 9.95) All their salads are huge with a generous amount of toppings. I used to get the cobb all the time. I skipped the egg as I don’t like hard boiled eggs. It comes with a lot of blue cheese so it’s nice that they use ranch so it’s not overwhelming the salad. The chicken with balsamic used to be a fav. I skipped the feta as I don’t like feta. Their balsamic can be a touch too sweet for me, but for some reason, it works with this salad. I recently tried the burrata salad. I love burrata, so this definitely hit the spot. I hate beets, so I skipped those. Still tasted good without them. They also have some lovely desserts that people have gifted us at work from time to time. I just tried their lemon cupcake and it was delicious! Light and tart with a nice creamy filling. Great spot to grab lunch. On those days where I don’t bring lunch, Café Madeleine comes to the rescue. Note: They have a rewards card. I believe it’s buy 7 sandwiches or coffees and get one free. Make sure to ask for one!

Latte was hot and generous. The almond croissant was flaky and the almond flavor was very present. A good little spot to pop in and grab a drink and a snack while you wait for the nearby Macy’s to open.

Café Madeleine is my go-to place for morning pastries. They make all their pastries the day-of, so don’t be surprised if they run out by the time you get there. Whenever I’m ordering a platter for the office, I pre-order the day before. It also allows me to skip the line. I’m also a fan of their cakes. A little pricey, but definitely a crowd pleaser. Very moist, light and fluffy.

I love coming to this place! It’s cute, classy, and you get the best bang for your buck! Win win win! Came here for a mommy dessert date, and asked which cakes would be good from a worker. Was recommended the strawberry mousse-like cake. Tiramisu is my default fave — super moist, light, and coffee tasting :) yummy The strawberry one was good and fluffy but wasn’t a fan of the poppyseed outer sponge later. Too dry for my liking, but I made the comment to the worker and she said she would let the baker know! Overall, I’d be coming up. Great for casual pick me up, lunch date, and dessert café!

Cutest lil bakery/café, they have the cutest coffee cups, not to mention great coffee to go with their cakes, which are also really good! I got an almond milk latte, I don’t have any complaints about. Went so perfectly with their pastries. We got the Yuzu, which is a citrusy cake and also the satine, highly recommend trying their desserts! As for seating, it’s right by union square, so it’s a small place with limited indoor and outdoor seating.

Their cakes are delicious I’ve ordered different ones for different reasons, always the same outcome: happy eaters. They even have gluten free which all enjoyed! When I’m not buying for others I get their avocado turkey bacon sandwich with a cup of tomato soup. Highly recommended. Source?: I get it all the time!

Got the chicken salad, artichoke panini and figured out why I wasn’t impressed. The pressed roll was dry as sand. It wasn’t buttered or grilled with anything on it, so just dry, hot, hard bread. Panini a need some kind of fat on the bread when it’s grilled. Very blahhhh.

I’ve been a customer of their owner since he had a restaurant on Clement St 3 decades ago. This location is perfectly convenient from my office space and helps keep me away from the burgers and fries combo at lunch. Their paninis are great and so is their chicken pot pie. My two favorites are the pot pie with salad or the Grilled cheese with tomato soup. They also serve as a nice little coffee shop in the afternoon to get your latte or espresso. Additionally you should be tempted to purchase a tart, a madeleine, a cake, etc for that special someone that you are going home to see in the evening. They are too beautiful to resist. They have some counter window seating inside and some chairs outside, but pigeons and lack of sun have me always running back to my office to eat my lunch.
