Great sandwiches at a very reasonable price. Pretty much beats all locations in the area for value.

i love coming here, prices seemed to go up a bit but it’s close and good. the only thing is you have to get there early, esp if you like avocado on your sandwiches and it runs out quickly. the fact they run out quickly, they seem to put only a little on sandwiches and charge you for it. i saw the lady put such a small layer of spread on my sandwich and i feel if you charge for it, i should get more than a thin layer of avocado.

Café Algiers’ doesn’t look too impressive, but it is a classic, no-frills sandwich spot that has quite an impressive line around lunchtime. As the average price of a sandwich has nearly doubled in the last few years, Café Algiers has somehow managed to keep their sandwiches at around $ 6, filled with lots of meat, and complete with fresh bread. The first time I came here not knowing anything about this place, I was rather surprised by the line. While I was trying to pick a sandwich, half a dozen people in front of me ordered the Spicy Turkey, so I thought it must be good and followed suit, and ordered the same thing with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, hold the onions, on Dutch Crunch. The bread was definitely the best part of the sandwich. It was very soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, yet slightly rough on my palate, though. When it comes to paying for a deli sandwich, I always say the bread has to be good. Otherwise it’s not worth paying for a sandwich you can make yourself. The spicy turkey was great simply because it was juicy, but I underestimated how spicy it would be. I’ve also tried their roast beef sandwich. It was just as hearty and satiating, but the roast beef definitely does not have as much flavor as the spicy turkey. One downside to these sandwiches — I wish that it could be served hot. I prefer melted cheese. It may be because I make a point to try to get my lunch early to avoid lines, so I might have received meat that had just come out of the fridge, but the cold cuts were especially cold. It would have made all the difference if it were toasted. Despite that, it’s hard to find an affordable, meaty sandwich in this area, maybe with the exception of Subway. On a warm day, you can’t go wrong getting a sandwich to go and enjoying it in one of the many public parklets on the block.

This is THE place on the first block of Beale St. It’s actually a part of the 50 Beale Street building and is now twice the original size due to the fact that they expanded into the space formerly occupied by another eatery.

Still coming to Algiers after many years and the prices have gone up(like everywhere else), but $ 6.45 including tax for a turkey sand on a good quality roll is still good. The overall quality is still better than Lee’s. There isn’t a ton of meat, but that’s ok. Spicy turkey on sourdough roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, salt, pepper and oil and vinegar. Just a bit of spice, but it really adds to the sandwich. Why drop a star? Raising prices $ 2 in five years is a bit much.

I’ve only worked in SOMA for the past few weeks and have been looking for an affordable sandwich shop that is quick, easy, and quality. I think I’ve found it… Any place that serves«Boar’s Head» brand immediately gets street cred in my book because let’s be honest, it’s the best quality cold cut around. Anything else gives me the heebie jeebies as it’s super processed and inedible. So for starters, well done Algiers! Secondly, the produce was fresh and lively. They didn’t have a ton of options, but had everything to my liking. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my weekly regular stops as I’m a big sandwich guy and always love something healthy and easy. Pay em a visit, it’s a great weekday jam.

First things first, it took me a few months but I think I finally figured out the anatomy of this building. What I once mistook as a cozy corner café turned out to be the parasitic child of the next door sandwich store. I’m not sure, but I think the one next to the actual sandwich Café Algiers is also somehow associated? Regardless, the café section is adorable, a lightly populated perching spot in the morning for familiar faces and orders already made. There’s a sense of small town intimacy when the owner finally learns your small café bianca and lox bagel order by heart. Can’t say I’m pleased about the speed of orders but I’m never in a rush in the morning. My only gripe, the cups are one size smaller than your brain conceives so a Café Algiers small is actually more on the espresso cup side… Now, for lunch, the sandwich selection is a like ambrosia, so many customizable options– which bread? Which cheese? Which combination of cheese and meat and kettle chip? The line can get pretty gruesome so I tend to bolt down there from my office a bit before noon. The meatball melt has dispelled all my reservations about edible albondigas on market.(I’m looking across the street at a certain other purveyor of subpar meatballs…) Paired with provolone the hot sandwich is unbeatable when there’s a downpour and you just want something heartwarming. The prepackaged pasta, salads and pasta salads are not to be feared, pick one up, it’s a healthy helping! Love Café Algiers for lunch, but I’ll take my coffee from a Keurig instead.

This is the best sandwich shop in the Financial District! I ate here very often when I worked in SF, and they always had the best sandwiches at the best prices. This establishment started as an extremely small hole-in-the-wall that would literally hold about 7 or 8 patrons. They became so popular that they expanded into the adjacent building and hired more people. The lines are very long at lunch and you may have to wait 10 to 25 minutes to get your order. My favorite sandwich was the spicy turkey with cheese. The meat was always delicious and the bread was incredibly fresh and tasty. The bread and quality meat definitely set this place apart from it’s competitors.

Found this shop through a Unilocal search. I wanted a good sandwich for a reasonable price. I ordered the spicy turkey and I did not like my sandwich. Good and fresh bread completes the sandwich and the bread I had was stale. How the sandwich components were stuffed rather than laid on top of each other made my bites either full of meat, of bread, or of toppings. I came when it was not busy. They took my order, made my sandwich, and I paid quickly. Service is good, place is clean, and they have reasonable prices, but I will not return for another sandwich.

Has management changed here? Seems like prices keep increasing without a corresponding increase in quality. The spicy turkey is still pretty good, but this is not the first time where they stuck me with stale bread(at least a day old). Also, they were out of avocado by 1pm. I know this is on the late side of lunch, but I remember the days where they would cut a fresh avocado and slice it when you ordered Avo. I think this is probably it for me unless I hear of a marked improvement from some others. I guess I might go back some day, but needing to rush to get there in time for non-stale bread might make it more effort than it’s worth.

Forgot my breakfast today so I went downstairs to Algiers to get something to eat. Standing in line I check out what they have in the display case and I notice a fruit fly on one of the bars. That should have been a sign for me to leave and go to Starbucks instead, but I stayed and ordered a banana nut muffin. The old man at the register licks his finger to grab a pastry bag! I almost threw up in my mouth. He proceeded to grab my muffin(I’ll assume with tongs) and threw in a napkin into the bag. Back at the office, I tossed the napkin, ripped the bag(I usually eat my muffin in the bag with a fork), and took the entire liner off(I usually peel the liner as I eat) just in case he used his hands to handle my food. I know I sound a little germaphobic and I am… very actually. But c’mon… You are handling food. Why would you lick your finger? Also, he was handling money… You know how many hands money has been through? And isn’t it a law to wear gloves in SF when handling food? I mean I still like Algiers and I’ll probably still come back(not for breakfast though), but I’m just so grossed out right now. Three stars because their lunch and coffee is still decent.

This is my favorite quick lunch spot near work when I’m craving sandwiches! Lines are usually out the door during peak lunch hours, but the workers making the sandwiches are super fast and efficient and the line goes by really quickly. Also, the sandwiches are super cheap as well as delicious! My favorite is the spicy turkey — mmmm. Cheese and avocado are extra, and you can choose which toppings you’d like as well as ask for less mayo. There are also a variety of breads to choose from, though they tend to run out of the more popular options after peak lunch hours(I tend to go on the later end after 1). tl;dr really good and cheap sandwiches. Long lines but they go by super quickly

This tiny little coffee place has the best coffee in the area and trust me, it’s an Italian speakin here ;) they serve it in warm ceramic cups(which makes the difference) and the coffee is delicious and let’s not talk about the price: the best! 1.30 $ for an espresso is literally the best deal that can be found in town! They so have delicious brownies and other sweets to go with the coffee! For us is definitely the place to go for everyday coffee!

Delicious sandwich! After a super long day at work(so far) I dropped by here on my lunch after reading such positive reviews. I ordered the spicy turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread with Swiss. It tasted really good and was very fresh! I was stuffed afterwards and definitely know I would go back. The store is small, but clean and well run. The girl who made my sandwich and the guy ringing me up were pleasant. Crispy lettuce and fresh ingredients make this one a winner!

It’s an addiction!!! The more I come back the more I really enjoy this place. Does coming here three days in a row sound ridiculous?! Same sandwich, same order, same satisfaction. THATGUACAMOLETHOUGH!!! To avoid the crowd and line, get there a little early. If there is a line, don’t sweat it the line is quick. It’s basic eats but it’s very good. This place is a favorite amongst the FiDi masses. I am one of them!!! –great food –for a great price –made by great service JABAAPPROVED. Until the next review…
