I just called FUJICHINESEBUFFETRESTAURANT on Water St., to find out why they are closed. They responded that they are remodeling and becoming a different restaurant — with sushi, and something like Beni Hana’s. No more buffet… I’m sad. I know many many people like myself who work in the area who have time limits on how long they can take their lunch time, and they love the buffet style and therefore regularly had their lunch there. Quick and efficient and tastey. Sorry to see the buffet go.

This restaurant is closed. I saw an article in the paper that says it will be reopening as a Japanese steak house.

I always wanted this place to be better than it was, cuz I love the idea of Chinese buffet. Nice people, and a few good dishes. It was better before 2012, when I used to eat there for lunch once a week. I went by there today and i think the sign says closed for remodeling.

Lunch is ONLY $ 7.99 and Dinner ONLY $ 11.99. Soda’s are $ .99 and it is «All You Can Eat» I have dined here over 5 times and NEVER been sick! So I almost went to 4 Stars! The servers are really nice. I like sushi with wasabi and soy sauce and if there is an empty platter at the buffet and you ask, they will make more. There is a lot to choose from at the Mongolian BBQ and it is good! This is a Family Atmosphere Restaurant-Casual Dinning

For a $ 7.99 lunch on Friday, it is not bad and I’ll explain why First off, there servers are very nice; they take your dirty dishes away promptly. A downside was that they did not refill my water the whole time I was there. The Mongolian BBQ is very good. Everything is cooked there and it is fresh and hot, plus, you choose your own sauces to put in it. Sometimes the chef even does some tricks with his spatula. The other food is not so good. Most entrees are cold except for the Chow Mein and Fried Rice(because that’s what most people eat) The sushi is average. Their soft serve ice cream is still missing and the deserts they offer(cake & cream puffs) are very dry. The pudding and fruits were not bad actually. I would recommend coming here mainly for the Mongolian BBQ only. For $ 7.99 lunch, you get all you can eat freshly cooked food and that is a pretty good deal.

What a grim trip… 1. We asked for some wine — it was listed as «Fat Bastard Chardonnay», not great but for 16.99 it was fine. They brought out Two-buck chuck, and were apparently going to charge the full 16.99… no thanks. 2. The food was as far from fresh as possible, all the cooked dishes had obviously been sitting out for hours. The salad was just iceberg lettuce. The sushi(what was I thinking…) was flavorless. And for 13 dollars each(after tax, before tip) you could get way better Chinese. Never going back.

The ONLY reason i’m giving them two stars is because i love the fruit section. Their food is not fresh, as it has been sitting most of the day. They DONOT serve crab anymore, no clue why since that was the reason most people went there. Every time i have driven by the parking lot has been empty, due to the gross food.. . I went out for dinner here with my boyfriend, we were there for over an hour and only one person came in. this place use to be great but it has gone so far down hill not to mention the waiters and waitresses dont say a word.. . they just like to stare at you from across the room the ENTIRE time you eat. Once they see your done eating they wait about 15 or 20 minutes to bring you the check. Terrible service dont waste your time

I really want to rate this place better, because the fellow who rang me up at the end was super-friendly and genuinely nice. But the food simply was no good. Everything tasted like it had been out in a while, the sushi was by far the worst I’ve had, and the hot and sour soup was worse than anything I’ve had from a can. It’s just not a place I’d ever go back to. Can’t imagine how they stay in business.

I’m on the fence about this place. If you just want a place to bring kids/teens to load up on as much food as they can eat in one sitting, this place is fantastic! However, if you live in San Jose and know what authentic Chinese food tastes like, it’s a disappointment. It’s a shame too because it’s such a nice, old building that is a great place to hang out. The place was pretty empty, the sushi looked as if it had been sitting out for a long time, the bbq station was unattended so we didn’t get to try it. The only thing that I thought was decent was the sesame balls with the bean paste. I love those but it’s not good for you to just eat dessert. I’ll only come back if I’m with people who need to get their all you can eat on.

Yeah um… you can tell by the empty parking lot, no one inside, workers doing nothing, dimly lit location + restaurant, 2 stars on Unilocal, that this place isn’t really your top notch buffet. 2 stars cuz it’s dirt cheap for dinner, what is it like $ 8? $ 8 for all you can eat(or shove down) isn’t that bad. To be truthfully honest, it’s not really THAT bad. I think its just the perception you receive from the environment and the critics that give you that extra stompage on this place. All in all… probably won’t come back =P.

mongolian bbq is ok, but not for 12 bucks… everything else is nasty, and I bet the sushi goes bad since it doesn’t even look like its being chilled. Id skip this place if I were you

This was the most fun I have had out dining with my family in a long time. Then why only one star? Because the food was HORRIBLE! All we could do was laugh a how bad it was, and we had a helluva good time comparing different offerings, making fun of each others’ grossed-out facial expressions all the while failing miserably to fine EVENONE worthy dish. So as we’re leaving, there’s this familiar churning and rumbling beginning in my abdomen and quickly reaching down to my bowels. I knew I could not make the ride back home to Pleasure Point, so I reluctantly trotted back into Fuji for relief. Wow. The only aspect worse than their food is the disgusting condition of their restroom. I had no choice though, I had to stick around. And stick around I did, three rounds to be exact! First round was violent and voluminous. Thought that was it, stood up, hurriedly sat back down for round two. Poor family had to wait 12 minutes in the car for me to recover, but even worse was the look on the poor little 6 year old waiting for his turn in there. And that about sums up the Fuji Buffet. If you choose to dine there, be prepared to be entertained by the grossed-out expressions on everyone’s faces. That is the only positive thing you’ll find there.

Went here because it was a buffet. Also because friends and I are trying to have more food adventures in Santa Cruz to see what’s good to eat! Went here around 2:30 and it’s $ 7.99 for lunch. It’s also only 99 cents for soda and drinks with free refills! There was Mongolian bbq where you pick out what you want cooked(noodles, mushrooms, water chesnuts, onions, pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, etc) and you hand it to the guy working the grill and he cooks it for you while adding whatever sauces you want(chili, garlic, teriyaki, soy sauce, etc). The guy who did it for 2 friends and I was super nice! There’s also a tip jar for those workers who work the grill but the worker who did it for us was gone by the time we paid and was leaving. This is also a Chinese buffet with some sushi as well. To be honest, the food didn’t look all that fresh but it didn’t look horrible. My friends and I had read the reviews on Unilocal before coming but still decided to try it. For us, it wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. It was okay for a $ 8 lunch buffet though– didn’t hate it. The bbq pork my friend got was red through and through though which was kind of sketchy. I liked the asparagus. The restaurant itself kind of reminded me of a Denny’s outside. Inside, it was okay, not dirty but it could be cleaner and more spiffy if it wanted to be. There was a koi pond and a bunch of the quarter machines by the side. They also let us split our check which was nice.

After reading the reviews and hearing the stories from friends, I decided to put Fuji’s terrible reputation to the test. And Fuji’s passes the test with flying colors, which is to say that it really is terrible. The food is ok at best(but I wouldn’t trust that shady raw bar), the ambience is slightly off, and the service… I have a story: I went here with some friends fairly late, at an hour where we were pretty much the only customers there and all the employees were just sitting around the buffet. We all went to get our food, sat down, and went to work on our plates. When we went to go get seconds, all the employees would drop the conversations that they were having and just stare at us while we got food. It was so uncomfortable that we waited for each other to finish their plates so that we could get food in groups. 2 stars because a) they had a large variety of okay at best food and b) it’s a buffet, and you’re really not going for quality at a buffet.

Horrible buffet, total disappointment! Unfortunately, we paid more $$ for dining there on a Saturday evening, but I wanted Chinese after a long day at Santa Cruz stuffing ourselves w/fried twinkies, funnel cake, corndogs, & fries. Skimpy type buffet, where the ice cream is only soft serve with no flavors to choose from. The dessert section looks nasty. Everything tasted like chicken, and the sushi looked old, not fresh. The mongolian wok didn’t have anything special to choose from. I questioned why the raw meat & seafood were sitting out. We should have gone to Chili’s.

Uuuggg. My son loved this place when it was china 1. He went with his grandmother and has always wanted to go back. i am NOT a chinese buffet type but I figured I would let him choose so thats how we ended up here. It was by far the worst food I have ever had. I barely could choke down the«mongolian BBQ». they have thick spaghetti type noodles and 5 dried up veggies to choose from. While that was cooking up I took a stroll around the 3 heat lamp tables to see what other deliciousness was there. I cant even describe what is going on there. i cant believe people come here on a regular basis. Even my son couldn’t eat the food. We couldn’t stop laughing at the dried up hot dog type thing on a stick. Its horrible! AND its not even cheap! $ 11.99 so I could get sick! Go to Sitar downtown and have the indian buffet for $ 6.99 and you can actually enjoy your food! STAYAWAY!!!
