J Grocery & Flowers

It’s a small place but has some nice and tasteful flower arrangements. Bought a decently sized bouquet including glass vase for a fair price. I stopped by Fuji Flowers before I came here, but I had the impression that I would’ve paid $ 10 – 20 more for a similar bouquet and might not even have gotten a vase with it. Although Fuji is a significantly bigger store, I would still buy my flowers here. It just seems to be a much better value!

This is the new home of the former Raymundo’s Florist (formerly on Sunnyvale-​Saratoga Ave in Sunnyvale).
I had been going to Raymundo’s for many years because it was an unpretentious mom-​and-​pop establishment that always had great flowers at very reasonable prices. Although J Grocery & Flowers is a longer drive, now, I wanted to give them a try.
I ordered one dozen long-​stem roses for Valentine’s Day. The roses were beautiful. And for $ 50 (this was Valentine’s Day), they’re actually a great bargain. When I was in there they had many beautiful valentine’s Day arrangements for sale from (I think) $ 29 up to $ 89.
If you live in Santa Clara, or if you commute past downtown Santa Clara, you should make an effort to check out J’s for your excellent economical flower needs.

Mostly it is a quick-​e-​mart type of place, although it does indeed have some produce, if not tons. I imagine that if I lived there, I would pop in often enough for a bottled drink or a snack, and there was nothing wrong with the stuff that I saw in there. I’m not at all sure about the florist aspect of this establishment, though. There was something overall puzzling about being in this place, I guess I halfway expected some kind of so-​called «ethnic grocery» but there were no «non-​standard» items here, that I could tell.
Not entirely sure if this place _​needs_​a Unilocal review honestly, but at least be assured, it’s not sketchy or anything like that. Just… puzzling, as I said.
