While the food was rather good, for young college age kids this place is overpriced. For the price the Dosa should be filling but I ordered 2 and still was hungry. I’m fine with higher prices but the portions should be reflective of the price. As customers we pay good money and restaurants a reasonable chance. I don’t like posting poor reviews but the portion’s were pathetic and I will not be returning.

Went here. Very average food. Reheated idlis, cold sambhar and bad dosas. I get my credit card bill and they’ve overcharged me. Needless to say not going back here ever again.

Pathetic place. Service was horrible and the food deplorable. The Vadas were oily, Sosa was cold and despite letting the server the pooris that followed were flat and inedible. Never again.

We popped in here for lunch quite accidentally, as the sushi place next door was closed on Mondays. The place was quite empty for lunch, only us and two other groups of customers. Initially we were a bit dubious of eating here, but hunger tempted us to try the south and north indian thalis. Both thalis came out better than I expected, fresh and tasty. At the end of our meal the owner came by for a chat to see how the food was. Compared with similar restaurants — madras café, sarvana bhavan — the food here seems to have bigger portions and better taste. Also they make fresh lemon pickle for those who like it with curd rice.

I don’t know if this makes a difference but, I still want to spread a word about the most terrible restaurant experience yet. Our experience was very similar to Dhruv’s. Got seated around 8:20. They took order around 8:40. After 30 more minutes, they started serving one person at a time. By the time second person got his food, first had finished his. They finally finished serving all of us after another 20 minutes. By the way, the entire table was asked to share 2 cups of chutney. Food was just ok. Idlies were partially uncooked and dosas soft. Vada was sour. At the end of all this, I respectfully asked the owner to improve the service to which he said«don’t raise your voice. I will call COPS. You INDIANS don’t know how it works here!» I did not know how to react. Just paid my bill and came out shocked. I was never treated this bad here.

I ordered the North Indian Thali and veg kurma curry. Absolute waste of money! Quantity and Quality is bad. Thali comes with 3 mini poori’s and pulav was tasteless. Not worth at all for $ 14.00 Veg kurma was edible but quantity was way too less for $ 4.00 I don’t recommend this place unless this is your last option!

We experienced really lousy service recently. The white rice was partially cooked and hard to eat. We asked for them to replace it for us. Waiter came back saying they don’t have any in the kitchen. At this point we asked him to substitute rice with roti and he asked us to pay extra. His way of speaking was unprofessional. Service and food quality has degraded recently.

The chillies in sambar is too too much. It is not worth eating here! I have frequented this place for close to 6+ years, but things have gone bad, especially the level of chillies is too much. I will not visit this place again, so they lost a loyal customer.

The dishes are very old and when I pointed it out, the owner said Dont Worry, eat, its all sanitized. We weren’t looking for an argument. The white bowl was all yellow and was clearly worn out with stains all over. The food was Ok but didn’t feel too good about the service and hygiene.

I went for dinner with my family and I had to wait for 30 min before they could come and take my order. The food came in random order, desert first and soup last, chutneys after 5 minutes after dosa got served. Everything was too oily, stale, salty and cold. I asked manager about it and he went on saying rather rudely that«what do I want him to do?» And for slow service, he said that he has bigger group to take care of and he can’t afford to pay attention to us. He was extremely rude and pathetic service. They have lost us as a customer. I will highly not recommend particularly if you are a smaller group and if you want to eat in next 1 hour.

I wish I could give them negative reviews. The worst service experience ever in US. I reached with my family there at 8:40PM for good dinner, given the restaurant closes at 9:30. After sitting for half and hour the owner/manager comes and takes the half order and disappears. On his return after 15 minutes when I asked if he can take the other order he replies«There is a big group sitting it’s over $ 300 of order, I can not afford to serve you better. It will take time for order etc.» I found it very strange and disrespectful, but patiently waited for the food. The food arrives in very random order. Main course for one person(who is waiting for the soup) comes first. Then appetizers, and after 5 minutes he gives chutneys. Still waiting for 3 more main course. After another 10 minutes of wait he brings desserts(what the hell!). I couldn’t resist more to keep clam. I told the manager that food should be in order, first soup-appetizer then main course and then desserts. What should I do with the dessert and where is my soup? Instead of accepting the mistakes he kept going on that«okay what you want me to do, I can not do anything» and then he says that«they ran out of one of our main course and can not make it»(what! after an hour of sitting he says they ran out?). It was unacceptable for me, I said no I don’t want to eat anything now you can charge me whatever we have eaten. He replies with«if you don’t lower your voice(which I had not even raised), then I will call the COPS and have you all Arrested!!» Of course he was trying to hide his arrogance and mistakes in front of the big group(More money) he was serving happily. The worst restaurant experience. Of course the dosa was not crispy, Onion bajji was way too oily. They have lost me and my family as a customer.

I have eaten very good standard food here. Today was quite awful. The restaurant is not at par with other South Indian restaurants here in the Bay Area. The paper dosa was definitely not made with regular Dosa batter, it tasted like flour. Coffee was served in a broken cup which I got changed, and the milk had spoiled so couldn’t drink the coffee either. I am regretting stopping here. Never stepping back here again.

Nice clean location. Good ambience. Ordered South Indian Thali. It was not worth the money. Nothing great about any of the items. I would not spend $ 12 again for white rice and few vegetarian curries. Also, the menu prices are not accurate. It changes on weekends and holidays.

Kurma is the best! I like Poori-Kurma and it has never disappointed me. Channa Bhatura is good too. If you have some free time, do engage in a conversation with the owner/manager of this place about their kurma and his love of cricket. :)

The restaurant does not have a working heater and made the experience miserable on an already cold night. The food was passable — we ordered thali, Chana bhatura, and a few other dissidents and it was mostly ok. Won’t return to this place again.

Money laundering? I don’t know, but the place is usually empty, yet they have stayed in business for 15 years. First I should say that the place is clean and tastefully decorated, and the food has o.k. ingredients. Portions are small. Otherwise are people enjoying the non-hot food served on thick ceramic cold plates so it becomes tepid in 3 minutes? Not sure why the waiter has been given that job. O.K. that he can’t speak English, but when he brings one person’s meal 10 minutes after everyone else was served and after we repeatedly asked for it(obviously it was forgotten) he asks us who it is for. It should be obvious because there is one person sitting at the table who has no meal. So not just an English problem but an I.Q. problem. Also, he does not seem to understand that chutney should be served either before or with the food, not 5 minutes after the meal is served. We ordered coffee for 6. I’m not sure why it was served in random kinds of coffee cups including one traditional South Indian one, and it was put in front of the customer on a ceramic saucer. If you have been in business for 15 years, why don’t you have 6 matching coffee cups? What’s the deal with the mango lassi? Do you think it could stand more yoghurt and more mango pulp? It was a disappointing glass of yellow milk. Everything is a little strange. Chutneys(only 2 kinds) are in little bowls but are put on a plate that they don’t quite fit on, so they are tilted, not flat. The check is given in a bowl. For the combo dinner, the idli and the medu vada have been placed on top of the masala dosa. Soggy. The dining room, by the way, is freezing. Hello! I want to take Grandma there there an she usually keeps on her fleece jacket if the room is under 78 degrees. She is from India and she can’t deal with the cold. Yet the room there is about 68 degrees. Grandma’s lips are blue by the time we leave. If you were serving Norwegian food, it would have been o.k. but I saw no pickled fish, cheese, lamb, etc.

First it was a very cold night and inside the restaurant was very cold as well. Not a comfortable temperature to sit and eat. Also our food got cold quick. My husband and his parents have been here before and said they will not return as the food has gone down hill in their opinion. Food was cold, salty, thin drinks(mango and spicy buttermilk), took a long time to be seated and order, and when we said the food was cold the owner said«Well it’s 31 degrees outside.» What? No excuse. I did enjoy the Chana dish and it came out hot. To bad it was not better and lost my family as customers.

One of the better Indian restaurants. Better, clean ambience, and non-greasy, fairly delicious food. The thalis are sumptuous and in many ways, the most appealing thing to me about it is the simplicity of the food. Very few places where I can eat food on simultaneous days and not feel or be sick, and that is saying a lot. A LOT. Because we make everything at home, from bread, to soups, to curries, to dressings, you name it. And unwholesome ingredients do not sit well in our old sacks of bones. We are also kind of tapering down on dairy usage, so eating outside is increasingly a challenge in options, nutrition value and antiemetic quotience — in that order. The owner is a friendly, chatty guy, with a great pride in his Kannada(of Karnataka) culture — all good, and quite entertaining really.

The food was awesome and had excellent flavor! The atmosphere was also quaint. I did enjoy the service as well. My only complaint is the prices by the time I got a meal and beverage i was in for $ 20 not counting a tip and that is for lunch. The food is good but it is vegetarian so there is no expensive protein costs. It’s good and you should try it but be prepared to shell out some dough

Went here because my mom and grandma said it was one of the first restaurants in Bangalore or something and everyone was craving dosas. I wish I could like this place more because to me, it’s a huge deal when a south indian restaurant is clean. Usually they’re hot and stuff, furniture is torn, flies, etc., but this place was kept nicely. But that being said, the food was quite average. Especially in the bay area when there’s an Indian restaurant on literally every corner, you can’t really get by with serving average food. Service was great, and yeah the restaurant was clean but the food wasn’t worth it. I don’t think it’s horrible, but I’m Indian, so naturally I have eaten a million dosas in my life, and therefore this one wouldn’t be something I’d recommend.

My friend literally dragged me here on a Sunday afternoon. Where has this little place been!!! So we had the Passerat and, I think, the Korma with rice? Well, the flavor and textures were absolutely amazing. One of the best curry I have had. So fresh, fragrant and rich. Will be going back with my vegan wife to explore more, but absolute delish! I will follow up on my review, but this is a place to try.

Dined here purely accidentally. I meant to go to a hot-pot restaurant located next door, which was closed. Almost went to Sumiya which is also located two doors down, but the line was long :( This place looked really empty. I am not sure how they survive. But anyway, my friend and I decided to try this place for weekday lunch. After being seated, I was trying hard to find Chicken Tikka Masala to order. But then, I realize that this is a vegetarian restaurant. Super fail! The owner of the restaurant was serving us, and he was so nice in helping us what to order. We ended up some combination lunch plates that were both excellent. Not sure about some negative reviews on Unilocal, but I really enjoyed the food here and hope to go back more in future.

I used to work around this location 7 years ago and never got a chance to try it out. Today, I had the chance to try out the food. This is the most horrible South Indian food I’ve ever had. Absolutely no flavor in any of the dishes. The dosa was bland, it tasted like I was eating paper. The sambar was so gross, absolutely no flavor again, and lastly the upma(which is the easiest thing to cook) taste like flavorless mush of rice. I am so disappointed and will never go again. I am giving one star for the great service. Our server was nice and pleasant and even approached us go ask how we were doing and if we needed anything else. But the main point is the food, if the food isn’t good, then there’s no point of going to that restaurant. Hopefully they can improve on their food. But I’m definitely not going back. I didn’t even finish my food, but ate as much as I could because I was hungry.
